Such a beautiful country pub. Parking available outside and across the road. It’s like stepping back in time when you walk inside with a cosy atmosphere and even a wood burning fire on when we went. There’s a pretty outdoor garden which would be lovely in summer. Staff were friendly and welcoming whilst the food was simple but affordable and very tasty. All in all, we loved it! 🥰 Tip- it was busy on Saturday afternoon (they only serve food until 3pm) so I would recommend calling ahead to book a table.

Four of us, all walkers, dropped by this pub for lunch today. It was busy, but had a lovely friendly atmosphere. Luckily we found a table and were really well looked after by the staff. My wife and I had sausages and mash, complete with vegetables. We both felt that this was the best of its type we'd tasted in a pub: beautifully presented...beautifully cooked. The Crooked Billet will go into our list of pubs to re-visit when in the area. Thank you for your excellent service!

Opening times have not been adjusted on Google Maps. I drove well out of my way to come here and was told Google have got it wrong. It’s clearly not the first time it’s happened, but it’s only a two minute job to adjust on Google.

I hadn’t visited in a while. Perhaps the reservation time could have also played a role at 1:30 but lunch took almost three hours do to lengthy wait between courses. The server was lovely but had a lot of tables. The appetizers were fabulous the roast fell a bit short with raw broccoli but the desert was amazing. So a mixed bag…

Visited this lovely, friendly pub when travelling to Marlow, having searched trip advisor before our journey. We parked at the front as we couldn’t see a car park and accessed the entrance via steps. The garden is truly beautiful at this time of year but unfortunately the weather was not so kind. We visited for lunch on a Wednesday; a couple of tables had been reserved, a number were taken and a few were left. Imagine weekends get quite busy and you probably need to book. Shame we couldn’t sit outside as it’s so lovely. The prices are amazing value for money; I had the gammon ploughman’s and asked for cheddar cheese to be added (would have preferred ham off the bone, and a pork pie or apple to be included). It was though very tasty and substantial. Hubby had the Billet style burger with Stilton, which he thoroughly enjoyed. We loved our visit and would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a good, value for money, traditional pub.

Our family has enjoyed many excellent lunches at the Crooked Billet. It’s very dog friendly so we walk up there along some lovely paths. The garden is immaculate and very beautiful. It is a very old, traditional building which is very cosy and well- maintained inside. The staff are very friendly and efficient. There is a good range of tasty starters. The Sunday lunches are delicious and, although I’m not a vegetarian, my personal favourite is the nut roast- I have not found its equal anywhere around here. The lunches on other days have a very good choice and are very tasty too. My particular favourite is the dessert menu, again a wide range and really yummy such as apple and rhubarb crumble, honeycomb cheese cake and treacle sponge. Above all, all the food is really good value, the best value around.

We love the Crooked Billet, and visit very frequently all year round. This is why:- 1. It is a pub obviously deeply loved by its Landlord and Landlady who have been in residence for over 30 years. 2. The garden is spectacular (and award winning!) always full of colourful bedding plants. Perfect on a sunny day, with covered areas when needed. 3. The inside is warm and inviting, with lovely old English traditional decor. It feels very snug in the winter with the log burner on. 4. The staff are great, very helpful and always make us (and our dog) feel very welcome. Your dog will instantly love it as they will likely be offered biscuits by the Landlord!! 5. The food is great, and excellent value. There is a noticeable difference in how much less you spend to feed the family at the Crooked!! There is an excellent variety of traditional pub fare (served lunchtimes only) on offer. My favourites from the Monday to Saturday include the Billet Burger and Gammon…and on Sundays, the roast dinner. Booking highly recommended as I see walk-ins often disappointed to find it fully booked!!! 6. If you like traditional deserts, this is the place…great size, and amazing value!! 7. There is a nice selection of wines and beers (including the traditional ales Timmy Taylors and Youngs). 8. Just by the pub is a public footpath leading into lovely woods, with various trails where there is a good chance of seeing deer and other wildlife. Some of the paths are circular bringing you back in 30 mins to an hour. In particular (not on a map) one route at the top brings you out onto a permissive path (owner allows access) leading along the outside of the woods with outstanding views of Thames Valley….you then dip back into the woods at the end and can circle back….one of our favourites!! Enjoy!!!

Fantastic gem, lovely old country pub, with nice floral gardens out front in the summer and serving good pub food menu at reasonable prices. If you like a proper Ploughman's lunch, you will be in for a treat! Good place to walk the dog around the woods (public footpath next door) and come back for a cold pint out front in the summer or an ale and cosy fireplace inside in the winter.

Such a pretty pub and garden. Clean and tidy. Very friendly and helpful staff. Ordered the brie ploughmans and it was delicious. Also not too big as some pub meals are just massive. Happily had room for dessert. My sister ordered bread & butter pudding and I had the treacle sponge with custard. Absolutely delicious and made fresh on the premises (not bought in and reheated like some restaurant and pub desserts are). Compliments to the chef! A very pleasant visit and will definitely visit again. O

The manager was rude to me. When I went to the bar he asked me: What do you want? (Whithout greeting me) I was quite shocked but I told him I'd like to have a table for one. He showed me one, gave me the the menu and told me if I want anything I have to go inside. I was just reading the menu when his wife came out and took my order. She was lovely. I ordered fish goujons (however in my mind I wanted chicken) so I told it to one of the waitresses. The manager's wife showed me which one I ordered and she was right I ordered the fish. She wanted to change my food but I told her I am all right with the fish. She was very kind. When I finished my meal the manager took my plate and I asked him for the bill. He gave me a piece of paper handwritten with the price without saying anything but he looked at me like I did something bad to him. I am not going back again. The place was nice and the food was delicious but I don't want to go anywhere where I am not welcome.

What else can I say about this little gem! Me and my husband met up with a friend who we hadn't seen since covid took over every aspect of our lives. Our friend lives in Windsor and we live in South Staffordshire, so we decided to venture outside our local area and beyond where any of our families live, for the very first time in almost 2 years! I am so glad we did and even more so having been given the recommendation to have a pub lunch in your amazing watering hole. The Pate was perfect, the Burger with brie is just genius and the fish & chips were outstanding! Thank you, your bar staff, who actually came to the table and took our order, and not to forget the kitchen supremo's! I would have washed the dishes by the way! The visit was well worth the 6hr round trip for a 3hr visit to the area and we would highly recommend anyone passing by on Sheepridge Lane to pop in for a bite to eat and drink.

Went for lunch with a friend, I have never seen such a beautiful garden ever, better than going to Chelsea flower show!! Very warm welcome by the landlord and land lady that have owned the pub for 37 years, all the staff were very helpful and friendly, the landlord chatted to everyone making them feel very welcome, the food was proper English food, not enough pubs sell that these days!!! My scampi was amazing and my friend had the tuna sandwich in lovely billet style bread which was like bread used to taste. Everything on the menu is under £10, such good value for money, lovely selection of bitters and lagers, wine and soft drinks too. Inside the pub it is very English and has so much 16th century charm. This pub is a must visit pub as it’s a little English Gem that you don’t see very often these days run buy owners that truly love their little pub.

Nine adults with a dog and a baby booked in advance for a birthday lunch for a 77 year old lady at 12.30 . A t around 1.15 we were told that the power was about to go off because it was on a prepaid meter and could not be topped up at weekends, so we could not have our meal. Why is a pub on a prepayment meter? Why did they wait so long to tell us? They offered a 10% discount on our next meal. Would you book again?

A Masterclass in Mediocrity: A Cautionary Tale from The Hand of Flowers We recently visited The Hand of Flowers in Marlow to celebrate my partner’s 60th birthday — a milestone occasion that we had hoped to mark with something truly special. What we received instead was an experience so deeply underwhelming, so bereft of imagination, and so riddled with pretension that it left us questioning whether the Tom Kerridge brand has simply become a machine for monetising celebrity rather than delivering quality. Let’s start with the menu. (Which we had to read from a tablet as the can’t afford to write out on proper menu cards) We chose a three-course set menu. However, with just two choices per course is not fine dining — it’s a lazy offering dressed up in self-importance. The fact that both the stater & the mains involved mini pastry pies speaks volumes about the lack of creativity coming out of the kitchen. A Michelin-starred establishment..? It felt more like a rudimentary pub lunch than the elevated cuisine you’d expect from a place bearing such accolades. Worse still, the quality of the food was shockingly poor. Overly rich, uninspired, and plated without any flair — it was culinary monotony at its most expensive. The dessert, if it can even be called that, was the final insult. Unmemorable, uninspired, and utterly joyless. It felt like something knocked up at the last minute, with no attention to detail or interest in delighting the diner. For a venue supposedly at the pinnacle of British pub dining, the lack of effort was staggering. But the food was only half the disaster. The service? Aloof and tinged with an arrogance that suggested we ought to be grateful simply to be seated there. One waiter snatched the napkin ring from the table with such haste and suspicion you’d think we were planning to pocket it. The overall attitude of the front-of-house team reeked of entitlement — as though the reputation of the restaurant absolved them from having to make any effort toward hospitality or warmth. The atmosphere was cold, the experience transactional, and the staff seemed entirely disinterested in whether guests were enjoying themselves. It’s hard to shake the sense that Tom Kerridge and his team are simply trading on his name — banking on the public’s goodwill and affection while delivering a product that’s light-years away from its marketing. If they think this is Michelin-star standard, they’re either deluded or laughing at the customers all the way to the bank. The truth is, there are thousands — yes, thousands — of countryside pubs across the UK serving better food, with more charm and genuine hospitality, at a fraction of the price. The Hand of Flowers is a case study in what happens when complacency meets commercial exploitation. It’s a rip-off wrapped in PR. To those considering booking, don’t. Save your money. Go somewhere that still cares about food, service, and customer experience. The Hand of Flowers is not that place. Tom Kerridge and his team should hang their heads in shame. They’ve forgotten what it means to earn loyalty — and more importantly, they’ve clearly stopped caring..
