A surprise lunch arranged for my birthday weekend with my bf and a mate. First visit to this place. Table booked for 2pm. Turned up promptly and shown to our table. However an unusually lengthy delay before our drinks order was taken. Then a further pause before our food order was taken. Bloody Mary prawn salad was very tasty and the crispy spicy seaweed was a revelation. What then followed was a significant wait. It got to 80 mins since we’d arrived and we’d succeeded only in a couple of rounds of drinks and a starter. Whereas a large party celebrating a birthday who’d come in after us had received their roast dinners and several plates of vegetables, Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes. I ended up having a word. Presumably the man in charge, flat cap South African, came over to point out our main course had been scheduled for 28 minutes and was 2 tickets away. He said he’d asked the kitchen to speed ours up. A further 10-15 minutes and our mains arrived. The sirloin slices were warm rather than hot but everything else was nice. But at this point we could have eaten a bin liner. The additional Yorkshire pudding we asked for was greasy underneath. The originals with the meal were not, and they were lovely. The additional toasted potatoes were nuclear but welcome. So overall the food was tasty, beef could have been hotter. The waitress was lovely and friendly. Didn’t partake of desserts. The restaurant wanted to remove the service charge but we wanted that left on and given the recent change in rules regarding service charge felt the staff should be rewarded but the establishment itself should foot the discounted amount not the staff.

The WORST service we’ve ever experienced. We booked a table for 4pm for my Mums birthday. 10 of us including 4 children. When we arrived they said there had been an issue in the kitchen which made our table sitting delayed. We then got seated 40 minutes after arrival, however after 3 hours we still had no food! We subsequently left without any food. We wouldn’t have minded if they had said at the beginning that they were having kitchen issues and couldn’t serve us. But NO they kept us waiting and waiting saying it’s coming. We’re actually in shock we had to leave eventually. We’ve never had this happen before……… AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!!!

We were looking forward a great steak night as a family meal. The onion soup starter was tasty but what happened to the croutons ? None. Then the steaks, what a disappointment. 3 out of the 4 steaks were not cooked to our order. You would expect that for a steak night the steaks would be cooked to perfection ! One if the ‘medium rare’ steaks was well done, so we returned it. They brought it back …. 20minutes later … with apologies and the steak was perfect but then it was a bad cut and extremely chewy, half of the steak impossible to eat. They forgot the fries and brought some with apologies once again. The ‘new’ Fries were actually much better than the fries the other guests initially gad, some were the initial fried ‘not fresh’ fries ? We wonder. Anyway they then brought an incorrect bill, so apologised again and when the bill came there was no discount for the bad steak experience and the bad service. Really unhappy !! Type of pub who does not care about consistent quality of the food because the base of their customers are regulars and come for drinks and then do not care about they eat ?

The food was really good. Onion soup excellent . Steak a little disappointing. Overall excellent and staff were great. We were asked on arrival about allergies - good. But we assumed this was food. Unfortunately we were surrounded by dogs. To these I have an allergy, and we had to leave before pud. These needs to be addressed with notices and a dog free zone, or we can not return. Chris

My friends and I go most Sunday mornings for brunch at the yurt. Almost every time we visit, so far this year, there is always something wrong, often something is missing from our drinks or brunch orders, the long waiting time for both drinks and food, sometimes hungover staff. We are all pretty laid back as the staff are always lovely and are very apologetic for any mistakes and all very dog-friendly too so we feel bad about moaning. However suddenly they have started adding a 12.5% discretionary tip to any brunch orders. I'm fine with that if you are actually in the restaurant and sat down at a properly laid table and in the lovely dining rooms they have. The tip is hidden in the small print on the brunch menu now. I think paying £18.28 for eggs royale and a pot of tea is rather extortionate especially when there were no tables available inside the yurt and we had to sit outside although undercover in the rain. We aren't in Weybridge or Esher and I've paid less for brunch there. Surely a tip is considered at the end of the meal and the arrogance to expect you to pay for a tip before you have received the service is outrageous. The manager was very quick to refund when I complained but did try to guilt trip us by saying that the tip goes towards the staff's wages which was rude. However I imagine you have pressure from head office as I can see Grovenor Pubs have been struggling recently. Anyway, I think you need to make it clear about your new tips policy for brunch in the yurt. Before I would always cash tip, as we could open a tab and pay at the end but this has been abolished as well. Ironically, after complaining about the tip, my brunch came out really quickly - probably the quickest ever, didn't have to collect my own cutlery and it came with a proper thick napkin. The food was delicious. I felt the need to review so no-one else overpays and is given the option to tip appropriately. Rant over!

Visited yesterday for Sunday lunch with my husband. The food was outstanding - best roast in ages! We had the beef sirloin, with delicious crispy roasties, enormous Yorkshire pudding, and loads of fresh vegetables. Faultless! Starters great too! Unfortunately the kitchen was very very busy and we did have a long wait for main course. However., our extremely charming waiter, Tyler and the General Manager both apologised profusely for the delay, and handed out complimentary bowls of olives and glasses of Prosecco to compensate. In spite of the long wait we shall be back! It is rare to find a perfectly cooked roast dinner as good as you can make at home - served freshly cooked and piping hot!

We spent a lovely evening here last night kicking off with a couple of drinks at the bar (thank you for looking after us Ellie). We then moved to our table where we were patiently waited on by Steve and Lily. It must be admitted we were a table of talkers and without Steve gently steering us we might still be sat there chatting, without food! Food arrived and we weren’t disappointed, Lemon Sole for two of us, chicken burger, pie. When it came to the bill, Lily encouraged us to download the Grosvenor app so we could benefit from a reduction on our bill. Lovely food, great ambiance a really great team of staff, with good food and wine. Thank you, we will be back again soon!

My partner treated me to the Mother’s Day breakfast. Upon arrival we were told that all mums get a free Mimosa. I commented and said I’m a dog mum can I have my free mimosa. I was told no as they are only for mums. I don’t have children and that is because I’m unable to and it’s not by choice. The fact that I was then made to feel singled out was discrimination. Is being a dog mum not enough! They were happy to charge us the £24.95 per person to have the Mother’s Day menu. Which for a couple of pancakes, bacon and maple syrup with coffee and apple juice is a little steep. The least they could do was let me have the free mimosa. Plus, why tell me about the free mimosa if I don’t qualify. Yet another stab in the heart for the fact that I can’t have children so I don’t deserve the right to celebrate Mother’s Day. Our waitress was also lacking social skills. Lilly found it hard to hide the fact she hated her job and should definitely not be customer facing. Would not recommend and will definitely not be returning to a pub that is over priced and discriminate.

We have eaten there a couple of times before but I have to say I was completely disappointed. We had recommended the pub to our friends who were visiting from overseas. There are several things I would like to bring to your attention. The welcome by the waiting staff was lukewarm. Not overly friendly at all. It was like they didn't want toe engage with us. 1) I asked if I could have the duck liver pate although it wasn't on the menu the waiter said it could be served as a starter. When it arrived it was an extremely thin portion and no butter was served with the bread. 2) No water was offered, we had to ask for it 3) The two French onion soups when they arrived, were less than lukewarm. They were gloopy, similar to a packet mix. I would not think they were home made as they had no depth. We had to get up and ask the waitress to have them heated up. They served fresh soup but we waited a long time and two of us had finished our starters by the time we had to get up again and ask the waitress when they were going to be bought to our table, as they seemed to forget to bring them. The waitress I asked who was at the pass looked positively surly when I asked. Our waitress who served us was pleasant enough but not always on hand. 4) I ordered the brisket pot pie with ox cheeks. I saw no sign of ox cheeks, the brisket portion in the pie was extremely small and mean and the chef had added pickled silverskin onions which flavoured the rest of the pie and so I couldn't eat it, a really bad and unappetising taste. There was no onion cooked with the beef and definitely couldn't see where the ox cheek was. The mashed potato too had a slightly odd flavour, again not very appetising. The tastiest thing on the whole plate was the carrot. 5) I ordered cauliflower cheese as a side and the waitress told us it would be a while as there had been a problem with it. When it came it was virtually inedible, it had no cheese taste whatsoever, again a slightly odd flavour and not resembling cauliflower cheese. 6) at no time did any waiting staff come and ask if everything was ok, they almost seemed to be avoiding us hence, we had to keep getting up to ask for help. I got up and approached someone to ask for the bill and she ignored me, I saw a man that I thought was a manager as he was holding a laptop and looking very miserable. He turned away from me when I approached. All in all I was embarrassed at having recommended a place that we had always enjoyed before. We did not complain as there were too many things wrong and we did not want to upset our friends as it has been several years since we saw them. I had been looking forward to returning here but sadly the whole dining experience was poor and very disappointing. I hope no one was ill or passed away and that was the reason for the poor service and low energy we experienced. The staff looked utterly miserable. I wanted to bring this to your attention.

We have always had excellent food and service here so decided to choose this place as our first pub to visit with our newborn baby. Also wanted to take advantage of the 50% off main meals. I had the pork belly with smoked pumpkin purée which was delicious. We paid at the end of the meal at the bar and didn’t receive an itemised bill but they scanned our card to get the 50% off our main. Delighted to have survived our first trip to a pub with a newborn it didnt really click that the bill was expensive, but when I got home I realised we had been overcharged by 50%! I totally understand that these things happen and I should have checked at the time but what disappointed me was that I contacted the pub and didn’t even get an acknowledgment. Shame as we’ve enjoyed our trips there.

The other food was mediocre - small portions, not meeting its description and we had to wait such that by the time everyone had their meal some meals were cold. If you take pre-orders this should not happen. The cricketers is expensive and disappointing. The portion size was small, the food is very tasty but price ratio to portion is poor

I visited today with my friends for a birthday meal. When we arrived they hadn’t laid our table and told to buy a drink in the bar and would he call through. The restaurant was empty so why was the table not ready? Our first waiter was really lovely! Let us take our time with choosing our meals and couldn’t do enough. Sadly his shift finished halfway through and from then on hardly saw a waiter. The food was okay. My friend had the fish cake, she paid £16 for one fish cake! Nothing else came with it, she was still hungry at the end and had to order some chips. Quite embarrassing. My other friend ordered the pasta but the pasta stipulated on the menu was not the pasta she got. I had fish and chips. The batter was burnt and the batter inside was gloopy. I left half of it. But the chips and peas were really nice! The pudding was nice but £9.25 for a slither (not a slice) of cheesecake is hugely overpriced. Especially for something that I can get in Tesco for a third of the price. Once we received our desserts, we didn’t see any waiter or anyone for over half an hour. We had to go to the bar to ask for the bill, of which after 15 minutes still no bill. So asked again! Then to throw on top an £18 service charge when the service was quite poor for half of it is quite cheeky. Pros: fab veggie menu, toilets clean and the general feel of place has a good vibe. Cons: SO OVERPRICED!

6 of us went there for a birthday treat but sadly things went horribly wrong. We were only the second table to be seated. The waiter, Karl, was amazing. He was brilliant. However, the starters, scallops, could hardly be seen. The French onion soup was just like thick bisto with skin on the top. It was to get worse! The main courses took another hour to arrive by which time other guests were seated who were served before us. The Fish and chips was burnt, very dark brown batter, but inside was raw, gloopy, half inch thick batter. Beef burgers were burnt, very burnt. Chicken burger was over done therefore very dry. Chips were very fatty, you could see through them. Chicken “pie” was in a small bowl, starter or soup size, with a slice of sour dough bread as the topping, very dry and disappointing. We didn’t need to say anything because Karl was very aware of what was happening. He was great. Lovely man. The management was no where to be seen.

Popped in unexpectedly for a Sunday lunchtime roast. The staff were most obliging and found us a table within minutes. We settled for the belly of pork, one of our go to favourites. In this restaurant you have the choice of free extra potatoes and Yorkshires which we did not hesitate to indulge, particularly if like me you are not a great vegetable lover and enjoy some carbs. The meal arrived promptly served by attentive staff who couldn’t have been more helpful. This was one of the best roast I have had for a long time with lovely tasty pork, good choice of traditional veg, beautifully cooked roast potatoes and big fluffy Yorkshires. A delightful meal at a fair price. It was difficult to fault this meal. Well done we will certainly dine there again very soon.

The Yurt is amazing, staff are friendly and the coffee and cake offerings are fab! However The Yurt get a bad rap for the pub food served in The Yurt. Today the french onion soup was syrupy like gravy, the chips were over salty, the mushroom parfait was not mushroom enough and an awful texture and the 1st attempt at a cheese scone was cold in the middle, the 2nd attempt at a cheese scone was frozen. All in all not good. I come every week and the food is normally much better but the overwhelming problem is inconsistency caused by the pub chefs and ever changing menus.

Living close to Pirbright, we have a few choices of pubs, but having been a few times before, we decided on booking the Cricketers for a Sunday evening meal. While we appreciated that we would be too late for a roast, once we were seated we were told of a few menu choices not available. I ordered the chicken burger ( a pretty basic choice) but soon after the waiter returned to say they were out of chicken burgers- really?!! No apology but the waiter proceeded to stand over me as I felt under pressure to make a second choice- rather than just leaving as I was with other people. I chose the fish and chips. It was ok, pretty bland. My son then asked for a second pint of Guinness- we’re out of Guinness was the response! Running out of basic menu and bar items on a Sunday is not acceptable, I won’t be back anytime soon.

Very small space, not ideal for just drinking although good selection of wine. Suitable for dining. Quaint village inn. Friendly staff although not fast. Coffee house adjoining is much more welcoming and quicker service.

We had a lovely time, the staff were very helpful and attentive (we were a party of 12). Two small things made the mark down from 5 stars to 4. Five items on the menu were already sold out (at 1pm) and the food came out bit by bit with one person not getting theirs until some of others had actually finished their meal. Also the 2 children's meals were nearly the last to come out - it would be good to get the kids eating first, or the adults can't concentrate on their food. Otherwise we had a lovely time and we will be visiting again.

Sadly we were here for a funeral wake, so didn't really get the full pub experience, but the food supplied was very good and it looks a nice oldy woldy country pub.

What an absolute gem! I was staying for business and didn't arrive until late. I was welcomed by smiley and incredibly helpful staff. After a quick checking in process, I was taken to an exsquisite room beautifully appointed. I slept like a log in a big and truly comfortable bed. Breakfast was hot and tasty. I would definitely stay here again. Why stay in a large, impersonal corporate hotel, when you can stay here. Highly recommended!
