The Cranberry Farm, Cranbrook in East Devon

Went there today with my wife and three son's today. Really disappointed with the food. Not cooked properly. Veg almost raw, roast potatoes - not roasted properly and the meat was like processed! Pigs in blankets an extra - £4.50 for four! Cauliflower cheese £4.50 for three raw florets! Really not good value for money. Definitely won't go there again!

Had a lovely meal here with my partner and two kids the other night. It's a lovely environment with some great vintage decorations and farm equipment. Lots of exposed Oak and a log burner make for a warm and inviting place to be. There is also loads of outdoor seating, and they are well positioned for evening sunlight - nearly warm enough to enjoy! Thoroughly recommended place to eat, great menu and some tasty burgers and a price similar to a Harvester etc!

Restricted menu. Had booked 2 days earier but told on arrival that certain mains & desserts would not be available as the restaurant would be changing the menu the following day. No prior notification despite the venue having a contact number. If we had not had a guest with us we would have gone elsewhere.

WOw amazing place - the interior is done out really well with cozy sofas, benches, bar stools etc We actually only moved to the area the week before Christmas and booked Christmas dinner which was amazing and all the staff were brilliant! We now come here once a week at least and always the same impeccable service!

Food good but not good value, asked for 2 lemonades and 1 coke, I thought the bill was a bit dear until they brought 3 pints , server had not asked what size - imagine a 3 year old with a pint of lemonade

Lunch as part of a very large group went very smoothly, with hot food served quickly, with the names of who ordered it, and a smile. Great service. Yummy food (smothered BBQ chicken for me). Just a 10-min drive from work in Sowton Ind Estate makes it ideal for lunch, will visit again.

We were so impressed by our first visit to the cranberry farm inn. We went with another family, so there were 9 of us in total. The staff, in particular Carl and Sao, were so friendly and helpful, and really accommodating with the children. The food was hot and delicious, and there were a great selection of drinks. Just the right level of noise, and a really cosy atmosphere with wooden beams and furniture. We’d definitely go again, and look forward to visiting in the summer with all of the outdoor seating

A lovely Valentines meal, we were worried as some recent experiences have not been the best. We were really pleasantly surprised, the food was good and we thought good value and the service was excellent, shout out to Megan who was smiley and appropriately attentive, it makes all the difference.

We arrived at 7.20 and shown to a table, we were told we had to order at the bar which we did. Our food arrived soon after, about 15mins later. It was hot and tasty, however nobody came back to check on our food at all. Our finished plates wete left in front of us. The restaurant was not busy only one other table was occupied. At around 8.40pm, we returned to the bar to order coffee and dessert to which we were told that the kitchen had closed. We were offered no apology. We were very dissapointed as nobody had asked us if we wanted dessert or warned us that the kitchen closed at 8.30. On the website you can book a table for 8.45pm surely the kitchen would be able to cater for this. We felt the serving staff were inexperienced and lacked customer service skills. The server I spoke to told me she had only had been working at the pub for 2 months and went on to tell me they were short staffed. I felt this was very unprofessional. I told her I would be completing a review, she didn’t seem bothered.

Food was really quick out, hot & very delicious. No staff member came to check on us, our plates stayed on the table the whole time, went to order pudding/coffee to be told the kitchen shuts at 20.30pm. So really disappointing to have a meal out with no pudding for after. The restaurant area seemed very cold & drafty too.

Said they would find us a table whilst serving us drinks, then said they were fully booked and we couldn’t even sit in the bar, finally managed to squeeze ourselves at a tiny table and watched the staff seat people when they did not reserve!

Good local pub. Good food and beers. People may complain about the prices but within the area they’re competitive. I think if more came then prices could drop. Very accommodating of our whole party. Enjoy each time I come.

Food was good, atmosphere nice, service good. The reason for a lower star review is we discovered that the staff do not get any of the tips! The owners should be ashamed of themselves for not allowing staff to receive tips and pocketing it themselves.

I came for Sunday roast with my family and we had a wonderful time the building was beautiful and full of decorations the staff were ready to care for our needs and the food was perfect we sat outside to watch the sun set it was beautiful with a cool drink to wash it down totally recommend if you want to learn about the history of the area and have an amazing family or friendly time with people!

We went for a Christmas lunch in Saturday. We had pre-ordered from the 3 course celebration menu and it was great and good for value! The service was brilliant. An extra special shout out to Em and Imogen, thank you having a great attitude, being friendly and delivering excellent service.

Roast isn’t great, beef was very chewy, the gravy was very watery and the cauliflower cheese just wasn’t very good quality. I’ve had other dishes here and they’re always too a good standard. Really good service and an amazing atmosphere, especially in winter…it’s very cozy!

Enjoyed the overall experience, food and the atmosphere was amazing since it was open karaoke night but didn't participate as we was put in the restaurant side of the Cranberry Farm loved the decoration had a country/western feel to it my only let down was the service which unfortunately our waiter wasn't very attentive especially after eating the mains but would definitely come again as it's only a 20 minute drive.

We had a beautiful family lunch here. The service was great, food was delicious with a great menu on offer which suited all of our group aged 2-80. The Cranberry is a great place to meet with family and has a good atmosphere. Will definitely return. Thank you.

Perhaps it was chefs night off? We wont be rushing back!

We quite often visit the Cranberry Farm, with being local to the area. However, after todays events my family and I wont be visiting again. My 3 year old child has a various range of allergies including dairy, all nuts and sesame. With his choice already being limited he opted for the Suasage and Mash, but with the mash of course having dairy in he said he would like chips as a replacement, a simple request from a young boy who doesnt really have a fair concept on why he cant have certain foods. From the moment we walked in, no one asked us about any allergies, and when we went to order at the bar, my partner said about the allergies, with the bar lady not making any notes. Once we asked to replace mash with chips we got told it's a new policy that you cant swap any items. Now, if things were said in the right tone and different manner I'd of happily paid for an extra chips and told them not to bring out the mash, even if I think that's a little excessive, it could of easily resolved the issue. Due to the total disregard and lack of reasoning with the matter we decided to leave, what could of been a £50 or £60 bill for the 3 of us in a near empty restaurant, we happily decided to eat lunch elsewhere. Such a stupid, stupid rule, especially when allergies are a more common occurrence nowadays. Probably best you get with the times and treat customers in a more concerning manner.

Great unexpected find, would recommend. Found by accident as we were looking for somewhere for lunch as driving through the area to Cornwall and came across this pub. Good food and friendly staff. Like that they did third off food on Monday and have different themes on different days. Dog friendly, would definitely visit again if we were in the area.

The curry came out near cold unfortunately! There was also a group of people with very LOUD children running around out of control even though the parents were sat there ignoring the fact , which was unfair to us and another group!! It’s not a crèche! This wasn’t the best lunch date for us as he don’t get to see our family often. We’ve had children but never was they out of control in a public place!!

Lunch with my sister her husband and mine. We like it here because it’s great to sit outside if the weather allows and in winter the log fire is burning. Food is just ok but lovely purpose built oldie worldy pub and restaurant. Big shout out though to Stewie who I sssume is the manager as he is consistently very welcoming and efficient. He goes the extra mile and though we don’t go here that often he welcomes us like old friends. Sorts any hiccups immediately with no fuss. Well done Stewie! You’re a diamond!

Enjoyed a lovely relaxed Sunday lunch with the family, including our dog! Food was good, and the extra gravy and yorkshire puddings went down well. Played some of the board games available to borrow and everyone left full and happy. All the staff were welcoming and attentive, particularly Issy and Craig. We will be back.

Went to The Cranberry Farm for Sunday lunch following a family recommendation, and really glad we did. Relaxed atmosphere, good food, friendly and attentive staff (particularly Izzy and Craig) and dog friendly too. Perfect!

Having booked in for Sunday dinner I arrived and went to the bar only to be completely ignored by both members of the bar staff. This went on for some time Everyone around me was served and greated, even those who arrived long after. I counted at least six occasions before I was finally approached as there was no one else at the bar to serve. When I politely mentioned this the staff, they said "We didn't see you". "Do you want serving or not"?  This was delivered with a heavy dose of attitude and a sarcastic smile. I said "No I don't think I do anymore". I don't think it's a great way to treat your customers, perhaps a more customer centric approach would help?

The food in this place is so bloody awful. We are regular locals and quite often go for a few pints and end up deciding to eat rather than go home. 1 time out of 10 the food is ok but the rest of the time it's shocking. It's overpriced, inconsistent and poor. This time I paid £7.45 for a prawn cocktail which as you can see was half a glass of limp lettuce with a few tiny prawns. The bread was hard and had a big lump.of butter on one slice. I had a roast a few weeks ago and the beef was like an old shoe. I filled in the email contact form to complain and they didn't even bother to reply. The bar staff are lovely! It used to have food bands playing and things going on but that seems to have died a death. Stuart, and the bar staff are the only saving grace. The drinks are overpriced, the cocktails are awful, unfortunately there isn't anywhere else for us to go locally. The kitchen needs to drastically improve, and be CONSISTENT!

Used to be our regular pub for food but no more. Customer service is at best mixed & food & drinks are way over priced. Ordered the halloumi and potato salad - was tasteless. Freezing cold potatoes & v oily salad dressing.

£18 for a Sunday roast with 3 potatoes some cabbage, peas a Yorkshire and I price of meat so dry it’s inedible! Ment to be served pink 😳

Had the roast beef today. Was awful. On the menu it says served pink. It was overcooked so much I couldn't cut it, I asked for some fresh meat and was then served more overcooked meat. The potatoes were rock hard and most of the table left their potatoes. Veg and Yorkshire was great but meat and potatoes were so disappointing! Not what you expect for almost £18!!

Two of us had roast chicken dinner and both were served with two chicken legs, this is a first, unusual, as you would expect breast and perhaps a leg but not two legs on your plate, as our booking was from 2pm perhaps they were using up the remaining chicken. The potatoes and parsnips were awful and appeared to be have been made many hours before serving and were dry, I guess we wont be having roast dinner there again. In summary, not very good, Id give the roast dinner a miss, 2 / 10

Shockingly bad. As someone with gluten/lactose intolerances and an allergy to red onion, I was shocked when told by staff that there could be onion in every item on the menu and they’re not allowed to “advise” anyone. We went to The Cat & Fiddle just a few miles away where they were very well informed and we enjoyed a nice roast dinner with no stress. Next time will go straight there.

Yet another amazing roast dinner at Cranberry farm. The best roast dinner you could ask for. Lovely lunch time celebrating Father’s Day. Highly recommend a visit. Very attentive staff, amazing food, lovely relaxed atmosphere. We will see you very soon and of course recommend to everyone we know to visit.

How can a place that was such a great place to go for so many years, go so downhill so fast. We used to be regulars, though with recent changes we no longer are; such a shame.

As we live local, we thought we would treat Dad for Father's day, but disappointed. Sat waiting for a member of staff to take our order, starter came, but hadn't received our drinks by then. The food was basic, a lot bought in, nothing homemade, small portions, and the curry bland. Eventually received the bill, and the deposit was not taken off. Not a good experience at all, staff very laid back.

Great beer, as always. Food is always delivered to a high standard and tastes very good. What more could you want?

An impromptu Sunday lunch. Never visited before but will definitely again!! The food was lovely, although not much choice of GF dishes (but wondering because it was a Sunday menu), but the GF double cheeseburger and chips was amazing. Service was friendly and professional. Will be back again.

This should be really great as it is the only pub in Cranbrook. It isn’t. Customer service is sadly lacking. I was with a group today (not my first visit) and quite frankly I felt we were an intrusion. In addition to my group, there was another big group, plus 3/4 couples all waiting to gain entry at 11.30. They eventually opened just before 11.45. So then the bar was rammed and there was a huge wait to be served. The table we were sitting at was dirty and we had to ask for it to be cleaned. This is just such simple basic stuff, but really didn’t feel at all welcome.

Visiting the Cranberry Farm is always a treat! Stu, Teresa, Saoirse, Conner and the entire team go above and beyond to ensure a warm welcome from the moment you step through the door. Everyone shows a hospitality that knows no bounds, and they effortlessly make you feel right at home. We often bring along our furry friend when it's a bit quieter, knowing that he can get treats at the door, a thoughtful touch from the pub, that speaks volumes about their attention to detail. The pub's vintage decor adds to its charm, creating a cozy atmosphere that invites lingering conversations and relaxed moments. And let's not forget about the food—it's hearty, delicious, and hits all the right spots. Plus, the extensive drink selection ensures there's something for everyone's taste. We simply love our visits to this pub.

No table tab, order and pay for your food and drinks each time you went to the bar. Food was of reasonable quality.

We always book in here for big family gatherings but the last couple of times it has not been as great, and tonight was hugely disappointing. Limited menu choices - especially for gluten free. Party of 12 came at 7.30pm. Food served at 8.30pm (not a problem, big party). Flatbreads were overcooked and service was pretty poor and unfriendly. Dessert chalkboard put on table after dinner offering coffee and a trio of puddings. Went to order - told we couldnt have coffee because they had turned the machine off! It was 9pm! Pretty poor when you know you have a booking of 12 in at 7.30pm. No check-ins for more drinks as we had always previously has, despite restaurant being relatively empty! Nightmare trying to get staff attention - too busy huddled together chatting to each other. Cannelloni was absolutely tiny dish with a sprinkling of salad on side for £14! Unfortunately, now time to find a different place to eat for our future family get togethers!

Great pub grub in a converted farm building with vaulted ceilings, and various nooks and crannies for kids to explore. Our multi-generation group of six had booked a table, but the restaurant was not busy for table service on the Tuesday evening after Easter. A Head Office inspired change of approach means that you now order at the bar (both food and drinks) - quite a memory feat with six different orders, but no big issue. The choices on the menu meet all tastes, and the needs of all age groups, and the food was delivered with no undue delays. All agreed that the food was tasty and well cooked/presented. Prices are in line with those of competitors. Adjustments to the menu (e. g. custard instead of ice cream) were accepted happily, and the service was very good throughout the evening. Suitable for a romantic evening, a family meal, or a business/social occasion.
