My Wife, my mum and I had lunch at The Anchor Inn, Great service, Great food at a good price, it was also clean and tidy, would recommend.

Super friendly staff and the burgers were amazing. Our table also had fish&chips and the chicken crostini - both of which were winners. The Sundays were to die for! Table was booked for 7.30pm (on Good Friday) and it was quite busy when we arrived but had significantly cleared out by about 8pm if you want a quieter experience

Another great meal at The Anchor - it’s always a pleasure to eat there. The staff are fantastic -the fish and chips is the best.

Lunch today for four adults. It was Easter Monday so pretty busy but from the get-go everything ran like clockwork. Thankfully we had booked. Efficient and pleasant staff, great food served quickly, one skate, one boeuf bourguignon and two pork bellies!. Delicious puddings. All Prices reasonable. Our first visit here and as two of us live locally (but not in Sidmouth) we shall be back. Sunday lunch to try next.. Highly recommended to all who like good food, friendly, hard working, well managed staff and bright surroundings. We sat in the restaurant area rather than the bar which was noticeably quieter on this busy day.. Pretty certain there was no parking on-site, we used the local authority car park at the swimming pool - a few minutes walk away but at an exorbitant price of £4.40 for two hours parking., (‘summer’ 2025). The Anchor fronts a ‘pedestrian only’ road in the very centre of Sidmouth town a couple of minutes from the seafront.

Another lovely meal at The Anchor. Food is always hot and service is always brilliant. The staff are always friendly and helpful. I always have a meal when I come to Sidmouth. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

We visited for the first time today 19/04/2025 We had a drink first which was nice While sat there I heard the bar staff talk about nearly running over tourists, an older member of staff said you should have The young girl who first made the comment said I wouldn’t want to damage my car Any way I had a second drink and ordered some food My second pint was flat and wasn’t great I went back to the bar I noticed who I thought was the bar manager look a the flat pint a few times but carry on serving other people The lady that served me first said I won’t be long She then continued to serve two other people who had come to the bar after me I sort of ignored this When she finally came to me I explained and apologized that my drink was flat and not that nice She rolled her eyes and started to poor a fresh drink At this point the man behind the bar said just poor it into another glass So my old drink was collected and pored into a fresh glass The whole time this went on I was made to feel very uncomfortable The bar staffs attitude was a real shame and spoiler what could have been a great afternoon Yes I am a tourist who visits at least 6 times a year But I won’t be visiting the Anchor inn again unfortunately

An old fashioned pub serving excellent food. The sausage & mash was very tasty. The staff were welcoming. We will return the next time we stay in Sidmouth.

Strolling through Sidmouth and we stopped to look at their menu board. Sun shining so why not sit in the sun and order some snacks. What a pleasant surprise. Firstly a great welcome and secondly amazing food above one of the top restaurants we ate at 2 weeks ago. Good prices would defo eat here again…❤️❤️❤️

Excellent pub lunch here today with my kids. Food was great, good portions, freshly cooked and super tasty.

Alot if the tables were reserved however we had a table ordered a tuna and cucumber sandwich which was doorstep thick accompanied with salad crisps and coleslaw my friend had a prawn sandwich she said it was one of the best she has ever had, also chips and onion rings. Definitely worth the money which we thought wasn't overly expensive as we also had a latte and pint of coke all for £29

Fitted us in at short notice on last available table for two, excellent customer service and food was lovely, would highly recommend, we intend to visit at least once each time we are on holiday in the area!

If I could give 6 stars I would. The barstaff are very friendly. My husband ordered the liver and bacon casserole and he said it was delicious. I had steak mushroom and ale pie and it's one of the best I've had . The portions are massive. And well priced. Would definitely recommend.

Often visit here when in the area, and it's best if you book a table, the manager and staff is very welcoming and the food quality and prices are very good with great portion sizes. I do miss the crab pasta off the menu though!

Having been a regular visitor to Sidmouth for many years, I had never been into the Anchor Inn. My wife and I tried it today. What a great pub. I had the steak and ale pie, veg and chips, my wife had the scampi. Lovely meal, staff were great. We will be back for desserts as we were full from the meal! Many thanks.

Really nice place will go again

We visited this pub for food twice at lunchtime during a holiday in this area. We had eaten here once previously in October 2024 with family recommending it. We found a table easily on our first visit although there were quite a few tables pre booked. On our second visit all tables were either pre booked or used by other customers however a lady we presumed was the landlady said that we could have a table in about 10-15 minutes which was very helpful. On both occasions we ate the smaller appetite meals (Steak and Ale pie, Faggots, both served with mash and medley of vegetables) which were both delicious and extremely good value for money and decent portion sizes. The pie was one of the best we have tasted with plenty of tender meat.

Popped in here for a sandwich and a gin, the sandwich was delicious it came with coleslaw salad and crisps well worth the money 😋

Local pub with good food. Helpful staff. We popped in looking for lunch, which was very tasty and a large portion. I was surprised by the quick service and portion size (fish chips and salad). It's obviously a locals pub, and they were friendly people. Reasonable prices, too.

Lovely meals and desserts. Portions generous in size and well cooked. Plenty of choice. Vegetables perfectly cooked and not soggy! Service at the bar and table was great with very helpful and friendly staff. Nothing to much trouble. Price of food and drinks was very reasonable. Thanks for a very enjoyable evening!

This place is one of those little gems that always delivers time and time again. The food is always a good and the menu is varied and they always have a large specials board on the wall too. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the place is comfortable, clean and cosy and to be honest why pay £15 for a takeaway fish and chips when you can have a real home cooked meal in a nice surrounding.

Five star meals, if you are looking for a traditional vibe with no bs

Tremendous food and service, spend 2.5 hours there for 3-course dinner and enjoyed every minute of it. 😊

Updated 7/02/25 Re visited again today while in area, once again food fantastic flavours and very good quantity. Pub well worth visiting for a meal when in Sidmouth. Is much larger inside than it looks from outside with plenty of seating in several different areas. Very good menu with plenty of choice and also a good range of daily specials. Service is quite fast, staff very attentive. The quality of the food is excellent and the amounts just right. Have now visited several times for lunches now and have never been disappointed.

Truly superb food, with generous portions. We had a surf and turf and a skate dish. Both perfectly cooked. Lovely, friendly staff and very reasonable prices.

Had a fabulous lunch meal here with the family. The food was amazing! Portion size was very generous. Options on menu were extensive and even the lighter bits options for the chicken were brilliant! Service was incredible. Felt like the food arrived within minutes of ordering! Even managed to seat us when almost fully booked with reserved tables! Highly recommend and will definitely be going back Thank you!

We ordered crab sandwiches they bought us club sandwiches something we’d never order as my husband has diet restrictions they basically accused him of lying rather than changing to the correct order ! Can not believe the attitude of the manager eventually we were given the correct order but we would definitely not recommend this pub to anyone as this experience almost spoilt what was a lovely day out

We visited on a Sunday evening, a family of 4 adults and 2 children. Food was beautiful, traditional pub food, home cooked and presented beautifully. Lovely atmosphere with all staff friendly and helpful.

We met as a large family group at The Anchor. I booked a table in advance and everyone was extremely helpful. The food was very nice and generous portions. Despite the size of the group, it arrived quickly and the staff were all excellent.

This was our first meal of a 3 night stay in Sidmouth. WHAT A GREAT CHOICE Comfortable and warm on a very cold and windy Friday night in December. Service was really good, not pushy but polite and pleased to help with choices. As for the food, well it was excellent. So many choices with varied menus to include vegetarians. The Specials Menu was amazing and it was difficult to choose as there were so many nice things to eat (I am really fussy and often only have one meal to go for). All four of us cleared our plates and said Wow, we were so lucky we chose the right place to eat. Even managed a dessert each which again were lovely. We were also amazed when the bill came as it was far smaller than we had expected. Will most certainly eat at The Anchor Inn when next staying in Sidmouth.

For what it is an excellent pub brilliant service you must book beforehand for a meal

We were so impressed with our chilli and veg lasagna we returned the next night for chicken curry and Welsh rarebit. Good value, very efficient and friendly staff. Plenty to choose from on the menu and alcohol free cider was nice

Wasn’t too sure when we went in initially, staff were very helpful and showed us to a table downstairs, big menu and specials, had a small bites steak and ale pie and it was huge for the price, glad we didn’t order the fish and chips because we saw one go to the table next to us and it was massive. Great food and very good prices

Amazing! Great food at reasonable price. Very friendly staff and nice atmosphere too. We went back there 4 times. We only changed the dining place on our last day as Anchor did not serve food on Mondays. And we were disappointed with the other place. We had fish and chips, grilled brill, grilled salmon, burger, lasagne, ox cheeks, apple crumble, chips.... I cannot say which order was better. It was all so good. If you are in Sidmouth you must go there. Highly recommended.

Who knew it would be 16 deg and sunny last Sunday in October and to find seats outside a great pub in Sidmouth town centre! Sunday lunch looked excellent, plenty of room inside and a friendly reception at the bar. We got talking to a few locals outside who said it was the best pub (and family run) in Sidmouth! Certainly looked an excellent one to return to. Sauvignon Blanc (Chilean) we sampled was excellent!

Lovely pub - very busy even on a Tuesday lunchtime but atmospheric and not noisy. Lovely staff - friendly & polite, good quick & attentive service despite being rushed off their feet. Lovely food - great menu choice, something for everyone. Well cooked, well presented & very tasty. Don't be put off by the "smaller plates" on the menu - these are still of a very good size & perfectly adequate (in fact during our visit several people were heard to enquire if they had been given the correct meal as they had ordered small but believed they had been given large/standard !) All in all, lovely all round. Well worth a visit and we will be back.

Popped in after school for a quick visit and bowl of chips. I had a dog and two young children with me and the staff were really helpful as they could see I was struggling a bit with lack of extra hands. It was lovely that they noticed and offered help.

A friendly pub dining experience. Great prices and great food quality too. We started our meal with crab and prawns in a South Sea Island dressing. Delicious! I then had faggots, creamed potato and veg. My wife had chilli con carne on rice. All very tasty, and our starters, and my wife's main course, was gluten free. Highly recommended.

Fabulous Sunday lunch,the food was excellent & the staff even more so,especially 3 young women who were incredibly helpful,kind & patient with my parents. Will definitely be back in a day or two to try some of the wonderful sounding specials.

My wife and I called in just for drinks. The service was quick, and the selection of ales was good. We sat outside in the beer garden, and the view was . . . well, it's Beer, the view was amazing!

We looked in seeking a late lunch and were made very welcome. The main bar in the Anchor has the traditional comfy atmosphere of a good pub, whilst the food is excellent modern British, offering a wide range of food styles. I had a lovely chilli con carne. I can recommend stopping here for an hour or two.

Had a great meal whilst on holiday. We wanted to eat around 4pm and a lot of places stopped serving at 3pm. Found the anchor and it was perfect. Good pub grub and friendly staff. Sausage and mash were very nice and so we're the West Country Faggots. Highly recommend.

We ordered our meals and they were a little late in serving us, we noticed other people who ordered after us were being served before us, we didn't complain but we were offered free desserts or 20% off if we didn't like or want a dessert. The food was good well-presented and very enjoyable, the staff were polite helpful and friendly. I would defiantly recommend calling in for food if you are in the area

Really nice familiar pub. We just had chips and a drink, but great atmosphere and fab service.

Stopped for a quick bite to eat and wasn't disappointed. The tables all looked well booked up ahead, so get in there early! Vegan options were available to.

Why we hadn't had food here before I don't know. We've certainly missed out. Doesn't look 'pretty' but the food is simply amazing. Fab variety on the main menu of very well done pub classics, including small plates, and a delicious specials board. We went back 2 nights later! Roll on our next visit. Some music in the outdoor, garden area would have made it perfect.

Staff were friendly and happy to join two tables to seat five of us. The fish and chips were really disappointing - the fish was well cooked and reasonable size but completely tasteless. The chips tasted like oven chips. One of us had sausage and mash which was nice, and it was all reasonably priced, but the fish and chips were so bad it spoiled the experience.

Anchor backyard on Folk week is an amazing place with live music and dancing

I don't know why we've never been before. This is a hidden gem that is easy better than the exterior indicates. It's been years since I had food this good in a pub. Good, solid pub classics with a specials board that boasts delicious plates. Excellent value for BIG platefuls. Fish pie to die for, macaroni cheese that tastes like your Mum made, curry that doesn't taste out of a jar.... Excellent. Will be coming back for sure.

Best pub in Sidmouth, for drinks, food, price, atmosphere and service. The kind of place that makes you wonder why other pubs don't seem to try at all.

We went on a Sunday. My advise is that you book. We just about scraped in with a table for two. I had the lasagne, this was obviously home made and lovely. Partner had the pate, again homemade. The Sunday roast looked great and was very popular, it was also had a comprehensive list of vegetables. Staff were very helpful.

🚨AVOID We went in today for lunch after coming for a day trip to Sidmouth. We went to order inside at the bar and they said they didn’t have what I wanted so I had to change. After waiting for 30 minutes we said “excuse me” to a waiter in an attempt to ask about our order. They ignored us, we tried to get their attention again and finally they said “it’s on the way”. In the meantime people who came after us had the food served. 10 more minutes go by, we go inside to ask and again we’re told “it’s on the way”. Now we’re almost waiting for one hour, 45 minutes at least when someone comes in to our table with a receipt to ask what we ordered. We confirmed again and said we’ve been waiting for almost 1h. They denied and confidently said “I tell you, you haven’t been waiting for 1 hour.” They then checked the receipt with the time and confirmed it was almost 1 hour. The items on the receipts were the wrong order and we asked for a refund and left somewhere else to have lunch. Thankfully we fund another place, a gem with amazing customer service and food. We do come often to Sidmouth but we’ll definitely avoid this place.

Toilets were rubbish you can always rate a pub to this issue ,never mind everything else ,the toilets set a standard

My experience of the Anchor is limited to the Folk Week, where they are absolutely brilliant hosting Ceilidh in the garden, putting on a beer festival and providing food for the masses. Highlight of the week.

Great pub in Beer village just before the beach. You can purchase a drink and enjoy on the beach.
