Fish and chips for four of us. It made us all feel a bit ill. Perhaps we got them on a bad day. Staff were very friendly.

Good Friday tea time popped in to see if we could get a table for dinner. Lovely welcoming staff and quick service at the bar. We were lucky to get a table, and our meals were freshly cooked and delcious, and we would recommend!

Amazing food staff and atmosphere couldn’t pick a fault if you want traditional pub grub or a special treat the anchor makes a strange feel so welcomed and decently priced also always full which is very rare here in sidmouth there always busy from Monday to Sunday rare here again I have eaten in many of the pubs/ restaurants in sidmouth but anchor seems like the place we’re every one is and I will gladly be back

Went in the pub on a hot sunday 12.10. I had a martini rosso and blackcurrant but the unprofessional female bartender served me. I asked what she would suggest and in a sarcastic voice she said what you can see you can have. Then she asked if i wanted ice. I said no and she still put it in. Furthermore i am only 20 but look young for my age i never got asked for ID which shows challenge 25 is not applicable and followed.

Decided to try this pub as was in sidmouth for the day..Sunday 1pm very busy but got a table. Great choice on menu opted for Sunday roast..very good..plenty on plate. Great service Nice range of beer and cider. Will definitely be returning

Just had an amazing meal with my husband at The Anchor Inn Sidmouth this evening. The Fish was fresh and delicious from the special meal and my hubbie had the pork & mustard mash from special menu-both we’re delicious. Weird vibe, very overlit, use of language to build social bonds strictly prohibited.

Every time we visit Sidmouth we pop in for lunch ,food is home cooked and large portions ,very filling home cooked goodness . The prices are very reasonable for the area ,see you again soon

How great is this place. Staff very friendly and so efficient, food brilliant.

I don't often write a review but visited the Anchor today for a meal and was very impressed. Was recommended by a friend, managed to book the last available table for today at 1pm. From the minute we walked in to when we left, the staff were friendly and attentive, a real credit to the pub. Drinks and food were served promptly, our meal was delicious and good value. Will definitely visit again.

This pub which is owned as a cooperative by it's senior staff deserves to do well. We ate in the downstairs restaurant but it would have been a livelier atmosphere in the bar. There was a good choice of items on the menu. We both enjoyed the food we chose and the prices were very reasonable. Food orders had to be made at the bar which was a problem for a disabled diner at another table. The waitress clearing glasses insisted that she couldn't take his order at his table and made him go to the bar. He wasn't happy and the bar staff were not apologetic. That's the reason for only 4 stars. You can't let your electronic tills dictate how your customers are treated. Staff training required! Despite the above we would support The Anchor if we lived in Sidmouth.

We stopped for a lunch and really enjoyed the meals we had. I don't like (or need) a huge plateful so their meals for smaller appetites are such a good idea and excellent value and exactly the right portion size . The place was busy and the service was quick and friendly. I think The Anchor may well become a regular lunch stop for us. 😊

What a wonderful pub. The staff are so helpful and friendly, led by a very good manager Joanne Fisher. The meals are of good sized portions and each one was delicious. We all had different meals and couldn’t fault them. We will definitely eat there again when in Sidmouth. It was very busy so I recommend booking in advance.

Called in as in area, not booked, but no problem Warm welcome and happy to run tab for drinks and food for my wife and I Found table in lower area Food selection very good on menu and on specials board, and a good choice of vegetarian options My wife chose roasted veg tart, with chips and salad I chose special salmon with hollandaise, new potatoes and veg Service efficient and polite, wait was not long Food was incredible for taste and size, salmon was perfect, potatoes cooked not microwaved, and the veg included one of the best red cabbage i have had, my wife was perfect pastry not heavy and the topping really good Nice to have the ‘food check’ We ventured to the desserts, my wife white chocolate devil cake, with custard choice, really good size moist and tasty, mine was white choc cheesecake with cream, good size and extremely yummy All in all exceptional food and service at very good price with a team of staff all offering genuine unobtrusive service Highly recommended

Good food; clean and reasonably priced. Quiet enough to talk. Comfortable with a traditional town pub atmosphere. No silly localism.

Sat at a table that was not reserved ; ordered drinks, and just as we were about to order food about 6.15pm we were told we would have to vacate the table as others has come in an wished to eat at our table. We were requested to vacate the table immediately even though we had been sat at the table for over 30 minutes without a reserved sign on it. It seems a very odd way of operating a business, most disrespectful. As locals who eat here frequently we will not be returning.

Popped in for a drink and planned on eating so found a table that had no indication that the table was booked at a later time. We bought a second round of drinks and were about to order food when one of the staff put a booked sign in front of us and asked us to vacate the table. Very poor standard of customer service. Not somewhere we will be going back to in the near future.

Went in for a drink and check it out for Food later that evening. Well what a wonderful time. The staff was really helpful and nice. We found a nice place to sit and check it out. Couldn’t help but stay for a second pint and book a table for the evening. 10/10 fantastic. The food was so nice and good price. Thank you for a lovely time and keep up the amazing work. Will definitely return when down your way again.

This is a lovely freindy clean place food very nice quick service you sit at table then order at bar with table number you can sit inside and outside it also dose B&B.

Rather average in all respects. Pug grub of a very standard type, seemingly prepared in bulk as it arrives within minutes of ordering. The beer is rather average, too. My overall impression is that efficiency trumps quality here!

Staff ever helpful when we arrived,finding a good table for us. The atmosphere is very good and friendly. Great choice and food served piping hot. We will certainly be visiting here again. Liver and bacon was really nice and we felt this pub offered good food at a fair price

Great pub, lovely staff who were friendly and polite. The pub is very well run , we placed our orders and before we knew it our meals were served. Our meals were delicious and reasonably priced. The staff were a credit to the management!! Hope to visit again soon.

Managed to get a table on what was a very packed Sidmouth yesterday. We'd been coming to Sidmouth a lot of times in the past and we thought we would come down for the day as the weather was great for the time of year. Had lunch at the Anchor a couple of years ago, but the food was a little disappointing, we went back there yesterday, and the food seemed much better, we both ordered lasagne which tasted amazing, big portion too! The service was excellent too, we were even told that it would be a 20 minute wait as they were short on food orders, that's honesty for you, but it felt quicker than 20 minutes when our food arrived. Thanks to everyone at The Anchor for an enjoyable lunch experience!

Thank you for a great meal - we would highly recommend. Service was prompt and friendly, the staff were very polite and welcoming and the food was delicious and arrived very fast. We had two meals off the specials board - braised steak and sweet potato curry - both were very tasty and cooked / presented well. We will certainly return when back in the area. Thanks again.

We had the homemade steak and kidney pie. It was delicious. The only thing that let the meal down was the mashed potatoes, they were not fresh made

Great food and great value at this traditional pub in the centre of town. Efficient staff and food speedily served, makes for a pleasant experience, in a busy atmosphere. We can recommend the pate, the crab and prawn starters, followed by the steak and cottage pies. Excellnt!

We ate here 4 times in one week so what does that tell you? Lovely food, very reasonable, arrives piping hot. All the staff are so helpful, freindly and attentive. Sunday roast was wonderful. Book to avoid disappointment!

We nipped in for a quick lunch on a Sunday afternoon and weren't disappointed. The roast was reasonably priced, tasty and quick. We really enjoyed it and the staff were all really welcoming and friendly!

Nice little pub in the centre of Sidmouth. Good size restaurant area, nice atmosphere. Nice fish tank inside. Has tables outside, too. You go up to the bar to order your food, etc. Quick service and polite staff. Prices are reasonable considering it's a seaside town. The food is nice. Would definitely come back again. Would recommend.

Unfortunately this pub is not dog friendly. No dogs allowed inside. It's a shame as they have lost our custom, although clearly they don't seem to want the custom of dog owners, which seems strange for a pub!

Always a great place to visit. Food is always good and great for a pint

This place is one of those little gems that always delivers time and time again. The food is always a good and the menu is varied and they always have a large specials board too on the wall, the staff are always friendly and helpful and the place is comfortable, clean and nice and cosy and to be honest why pay £15 for a takeaway fish and chips when you can have a real home cooked meal in a nice surrounding.

Had 2 lovely meals over the last couple of nights, opted for the lighter meals as the main dishes looked huge, and they were both lovely! If you are going to come it's best to book the day before!

Been here many times, and never disappoints...Friendly staff, good food and good value for money..

We ordered by accident a sandwich with butter (not used to have buttered) and asked if the sandwich could be heated. The waitress was really rude just said it was our fault and left, no way of just ordering some slices if bread.

I really liked this pub. I wanted to try the Sunday roast. However, they had already run out. I tried other things on the menu and I was really happy with the food. The food portions are huge and it's really value for money. The white chocolate mud pie was extremely tasty. The service was friendly and very polite.

The Anxhor Inn is a traditional British public house that sells good traditional pub grub along with a selection of daily specials. Fish and Chips and Sunday Roast were superb. As Sidmouth has a limited number of pubs and restaurants, it is advised that you book in advance for fear of disappointment.

Very good customer service would recommend, disable friendly, over all really happy here always come here when I’m on holidays.

We came here on recommendation. It didn’t disappoint! Food was lovely , really generous portions. A varied selection on the menu, something for everyone. Good value for money. The staff were super friendly, nothing was too much trouble. I would 100% come again. Highly recommended.
