Recently I attended my friends dads funeral which was held at the holly tree. On arriving there on my own I was immediately greeted by the owner Nigel. Within minutes he offer me a swing to which I declined as I’m not a drinker, but he insisted that he would go and make me a cup of tea or coffee. Also my friends mum whom is elderly felt a bit cold, so I went and asked the landlady Trina for a blanket. She immediately went a got us one and said if you need anything else just ask as it’s no trouble at all. The food was outstanding and the service was second to none. So if there is anybody looking for any sort of function I would definitely recommend the holly tree pub on withycombe road, Exmouth. Thanks a million Nigel & Trina for make a very hard day a lot more easier and very relaxed and comfortable. 10/10 😊😊😊

I would just like to say a massive thank you to the Holly Tree.. Nigel, Katrina and the bar staff were absolutely amazing on the day of my Dad's wake.. The food was plentiful and so beautifully presented, nothing was too much trouble. As for the bar staff, they were on the ball the whole time making sure we were all ok. As I had to organise this from Essex it was lovely to have been given everything that was requested. Going from the experience we had there on the day, I would highly recommend this beautiful country pub to anyone that is looking to host any kind of do.. Absolutely top notch. Thank you so much for all you did for us to make sure everything ran smoothly. Very much appreciated.. My Dad would've been very proud of his send off. Thanks again Tracey Stokes and Jean Kemsley x

Met one of the sons of the landlord who came across really nice, helpful and friendly welcomed our dogs who were really well behaved and quiet which understandably is what everyone wants, then another dog came in and one of our dogs barked at it and we were told “guys I think you need to keep it down” ! God we’d been in there most of the afternoon and everyone Including the staff were making a fuss of our dogs. Think this reaction was a little bit ott!!! I know the last landlord who had the pub was supposedly meant to have a bad attitude towards the punters but I have to speak as I find he was alway alright to us and never had anything to say about our dogs. Maybe People of more intelligence got him, shame on the ones that never😱 Hope the new people succeed but they won’t have our custome anymore, sorry 👎🏼

When purchasing a G&T don't expect a slice of lime as per normal etiquette as this is NOT a cocktail bar according to the landlord... . Apparently. We understand this is a local but if that's the case don't serve flavoured gins but not serve with the right accompaniments. Standard G&T = lime wherever you go. Also, we've been here 4 times when staying at a local-ish campsite hoping to eat, also, but food not available. We like to support local business but not when they are arrogant about it.

Came in from the snow and the cold and went to warm up quickly in the loos, the manger came in and said "excuse me we're not a holiday inn" so we apologised and left. Went to get a bar at the drink, all of us of age with ID and asked to pay with card but couldn't as under the £5 limit. Fair enough, so asked to buy another one at the same time so we could pay with card but we're refused the drinks as they assumed we'd be giving it to another person. Totally get pubs being careful about underage drinkers but think it's really rude to assume the worst of young people - especially when we were well mannered and all had IDs!!Not welcoming at all, would not recommend.

This earthy Pub situated in the nearby village of Withycombe, specialises in a range of real ales; together with lagers and ciders of wide appeal (broadly West of England sources). The general atmosphere is one of basic and traditional old fashioned values and does not yield to modern trends. A feature of the Pub is its rigid conformity to that of another age that perhaps never really existed

I recently visited the Holly Tree on two occasions, on visit one I had the steak and the second I had the homemade fish pie. I have to say both meals were really exceptionally good, both very tasty, the steak was full of flavour and very tender and the fish pie was packed with fish and topped with a light but scrummy mash potato. Top notch food and I'd say very reasonably priced.

I believe they do food now, however i have only ever had bar snacks there. Not the cheapest of pubs but well worth a visit. My family love it as its five mins walk from our apartment and we can pick some chips up from the chip shop across the road from the pub and eat them on the wall back. Definitely worth a visit.

Popped in as was staying at sandy bay and saw the reviews were good, the barmaid never said please or thank you, she took our drinks away when they weren't quite finished, and the general atmosphere was just dull, we have since had a look at other reviews on other sites and they are much true to form. There's a much nicer pub just across the road which was much more accommodating with much nicer staff called The Country House in which we used for the duration of our stay.

If you like real ale this is the place with 8 on the pumps (mainly st austell beers), taunton traditional cider on pump, old englisy & blackthorn also. Then you have your normal pub beers & larger on tap. Well supported by the locals. I've visited a couple of time & not seen any food being served or even a menu so assume generally no food. Went back to the tree last week, a place I frequented a lot before I relocated to Cornwall. Always loved the place and when I heard that it had changed hands and that the new owners intended making wholesale changes, was really worried it would change and not for the better..How wrong could I be! Roger and Andy have tastefully redecorated and the place has had the necessary make over without losing the feel of a traditional village pub.The beer garden is a relevation and no expense spared to make a great place to while away many hours drinking the excellent real ales, which are kept superbly. The new employment of a chef and the modernisation of the kitchens producing really tastey food at a realistic place, I had the liver and bacon which was superb.

I had a lovely meal of sausage and mash with lots of vegetables and onion gravy for just under £7 and my husband equally enjoyed his ham, egg, chips and peas for the same price. They had a choice of three mains and three desserts. The other main was steak and chips for £10. The staff were very friendly and they have a good range of beers on tap. My only complaint was there was no vege option but I was told there normally is. i would advise to ring ahead and book a table in the restaurant area.

Me and my husband heard though a friend that the holly tree had started doing food so we thought we would check it out. on arrival we noticed a fine choice of real ales making my husband very happy indeed. the staff behind the bar couldn't do enough to help us greeting us and making us feel very welcome indeed, the menu looked great offering fresh home cooked food at a good price. after getting our drinks we ordered our food, I had the ham egg and chips and my husband the steak and ale pie, when it came to the table it was very well presented and you could see it was home cooked and very fresh indeed, it was beautiful! the ham was so tasty and the eggs cooked to perfection (not crispy and hard yolks) my husband thoroughly enjoyed his pie witch I must say did look amazing and all topped off by the fact we could get a good pint of ale at the bar. after our mains we both felt so stuffed we shared a desert, a eaton mess with fresh fruit, crispy meringue and a beautiful strawberry sauce that must have also been home made as it tasted so fresh. we thoroughly enjoyed our food and our meal was complimented with a well made real coffee at the end. you must check this place out because it is going to be one of our regular places to eat and we look forward to having the Sunday roast this week. well done to the new land lords as they have really got this place spot on.

The Holly Tree has under gone a make over with its new owners. The garden has been turned in to a lovely area to sit during the summer, also they have started doing food. Several BBQ's have been held and I have to say some really great food has been on offer, something for everyone. The interior has also received a much needed revamp and freshen up. Recently a small but very tasty menu has been introduced, serving food I think just in the evening weekdays and lunch time on Sunday's. This I'm certain is going to increase to weekday lunchtime in the future. I've eaten there several times. The portion sizes have been really very good, the vegetables are fresh and everything is reasonably priced. Some friends went for the Sunday roast and again, they were very pleased with the quality of the food. I wish them well and I shall be sampling more from the menu very soon.

Lovely family friendly pub, really good staff. Bedrooms very comfy, unfortunately the tv only had 2 channels and the bin had not been emptied and had a used male sanitary item in it. I would have rated 5 if they had at least emptied the bin. Great breakfast but chef unable to do a well done egg as requested.

We had a crab sandwich yesterday and were surprised at the price of £15.95 each but we ordered them anyway. We found the sandwiches were much smaller than usual and not so tasty. On checking my bank statement I see that Rockfish has taken over. Probably explains high price and smaller sandwiches. Just £9.95 further down the beach at 50⁰ North and much better quality.
