Longboat Cafe in East Devon

We had a crab sandwich yesterday and were surprised at the price of £15.95 each but we ordered them anyway. We found the sandwiches were much smaller than usual and not so tasty. On checking my bank statement I see that Rockfish has taken over. Probably explains high price and smaller sandwiches. Just £9.95 further down the beach at 50⁰ North and much better quality.

I came from Exeter couple days ago to buy your delicious glutenfree crab sandwiches. They were so good and glutenfree as I am a Coeliac. But after I'd ordered them, I had to pay nearly £17 just for 2 sandwiches and small portion of Coleslaw. When I last visited the price was only £11. I was shocked and disappointed to have to pay this amount for so little. I shan't be visiting your cafe again!

A great find on a really awful weather British summers day! Having made the trip into Budleigh, we didn’t really know what to do as the wind was howling and rain was lashing down. Decided to give the dog a quick walk along the seafront and came upon the cafe by chance. Dived in to take shelter from the weather and although it was close on their closing time, the staff instantly made us feel welcome. Hot drinks and toasted paninis(which were simply delicious) and a sausage for the dog too. Such friendly staff turned a grotty day around and we headed out feeling much better than when we went in. Thoroughly recommended and we will be back next holiday time, hopefully with the sunshine

Good spot for a coffee - lovely beach side cafe.

Used to be fine, but at a recent visit the very small crab sandwich was very pricey at about £18. Fifty yards up the prom in a similar venue crab sandwiches were £10.

So sad today .Went to our favourite place to eat for a crab sandwich .with my daughters from London..Sooo disappointed the crab sandwich on granary very thin bread Had a very thin filling of brown/orange crab and that was it.Lovely salad .and the rest of the food wasfine The crab sandwich was £15 99....I would gladly have paid that for their usual ones but that was absolutely terrible .I know you were very busy but its no excuse...😱🤣

Lovely little place on the sea front. Gluten free options available for sandwiches and I was very impressed to see a couple of unique GF cakes available too instead of the usual offerings 😀 would recommend 😀

Sadly no crab! Great location. Really nice food. The half pint of prawns presented so well and the bacon bap....so good. Enjoy the view while your stomach enjoys the goodies.

We were lucky to get a seat outside and watch the world go by. Nice to have the drinks come in " proper" cups, not take away ones .Cakes were nice also, and we didn't have to wait to long

Only called for a coffee. They were quite busy but friendly. we had a Latte which was a little flat. Not a lot of froth, more like a flat white, but was quite nice. Had better.

Stopped by for a quick bite to eat after a walk. Coffee was good, food was tasty and hot and the staff were friendly even having a wee chat with them after being asked how my day was going whilst I was waiting for my coffee. Lots of foot traffic owing to its beach side location but I don't think that's the overriding reason it was busy.

What a little find. I would call this a trail style cafe. On a walking route, cycle route what a great location. Great value service great and the view great. See yoh again in May for breakfast when I cycle past on the East Devon Trail.

Great beach side cafe. We sat outside by the pebble beach on a cloudy February day. I had a lovely green pesto and tomato panini with coleslaw. Staff were very friendly and service was quick.

Have to agree with the critical reviews about this place: I got "corrected" by the woman at the till when I ordered a large Latte - was told most "people have a shot in theirs" when checked if my drink was going to have Oatmilk in it as I'd requested. The large Latte turned out to be a small - a good inch from the top of the mug. Being asked for another 40p on top of the drinks price for an "alternative" milk is a really annoying, unfair tax: I'm really allergic to cows milk, it isn't a fad of mine. The 3 staff behind the counter were more preoccupied in squeezing the dregs out of the mulled wine warmer than serving anyone else.... Avoid!

A great little café right on the beach at Budleigh Salterton. It has sheltered outdoor seating so it's a perfect spot for windy, cold or wet days when you still want to be out and about. I had a latte and a toasted teacake on my last visit, both were very nice. From memory their sandwiches are also good. The staff are friendly and attentive 👍🏻

Thought we’d have a bite to eat here as we normally only have an ice cream. I had a bacon and scallop soft roll with salad and my partner had a cheese and sun dried tomato toasted panini. We both had a soft drink and it came to less than £20 an absolute bargain. They even gave our little dog half a sausage cut up as a treat I would not hesitate to go back and living not far away I definitely will.

We have stopped off here several times this summer for breakfast or an ice-cream. Last week we were just in time to order breakfast before the kitchen shut to get ready for lunch. Despite this the staff were polite and friendly and the food freshly cooked and delicious. The covered seating area is a great idea. Dog friendly. Would recommend.

Very nice. We called in for a beer on the way back from a walk but we found out that they can only serve alcohol if you buy food. We decided to stay and we both had panini which was nice.

Amazing food thr ice cream was lovely and the atmosphere was very good we have a friend their who served us very well and the communication was great definitely go there! You are missing out!

please teach your staff how to make coffee. I ordered a oat milk flat white and watched it being made and it was so hot and burnt it was almost undrinkable . so many places have the same issues . Training is so important to make good coffee and keep people coming back.

Staff were rude and obnoxious when we popped in for lunch for 6. The way we were spoken to guaranteed we would take our business elsewhere. Some manners and respect required if you are to stay in business!

Decent cafe on Budleigh seafront. Nice atmosphere, with covered outdoors seating. Ordering area a little cramped, but staff relatively friendly. Good variety of cold and hot drink options, alongside savoury and sweet food options. We had their ice cream, which was delicious, and came in an edible wafer tub too! Good experience overall.

Really good sandwiches and their milk shakes are beyond reproach--made with your choice of ice cream and fresh milk. Lovely location right on the sea front. Avoid the coffee--used to be good but is now dispensed via a push button machine. These are sold to establishments like the Longboat as a fresh coffee machine because it does grind beans, but the coffee still tastes horrid. They may save the cafe time, but they cost custom and reputation for quality...

I walked past yesterday on my hike and came back today for a breakfast bap and coffee because it felt so inviting just walking by the day before. Food was lovely, the cakes look delicious and the coffee was nice. They also serve soups and lunch snacks. Open every day during the season. Prime location right by the waterfront, you hear the sea waves and can look to infinity while enjoying your time here. Rustic feel with washed out wood furniture, and for a few raindrops there’s a sheltered part. The cheerful bunting, the friendly staff and reasonable prices make this a great stop for your seaside vacation!

Only ice cream on the sea front.

Fancied trying crab whilst visiting Devon as it’s something I’ve not had before. It was nice but for over a tenner, I expected a bit more filling than what was given. Everything else was nice and service was great.

Brilliant location. Friendly and helpful staff offering food of reasonable price.

One of the best bacon sandwiches I have ever eaten. My wife had panini which was very good. Well worth a visit.

The most perfect location to sit and enjoy the sea view right next to the beach. It's worth taking a trip here just for this. The staff were friendly and efficient. The lunch menu is a little basic, offering a choice of sandwiches, rolls, toasted paninis or a pot of prawns, but this would be perfectly acceptable if what is served is of a good standard. Unfortunately that's not the case. It seemed that the bread for the sandwiches and the bap rolls had been picked up along the road at Tesco rather than making the effort to source higher quality bakery products. Cheap margerine had been used on the bread and the roll which had quite an unpleasant taste. The prawns in the sandwich were quite wet and watery. There is a choice of a salad garnish or coleslaw alongside the sandwiches- why not both? The coleslaw was nothing special, and definitely not home made. There is scope here to make improvements which would make such a difference. As locals we would return regularly if the food was better. Please just add a pound to all your prices and up the quality. Until then, I'd return for coffee and cake but lunch is to be avoided.

Had an excellent full English breakfast at The Long boat cafe yesterday. Sat outside and the food was fab as were the really friendly staff. Just under a tenner for cooked breakfast and mug of tea. Highly recommend.

Absolutely lovely cafe and food. The only thing I will say is the staff are some of the most miserable I've ever met and I myself work in the hospitality industry so understand how difficult it can be at times. However, I would never be as miserable as they were. I will state it was only the 3 front of house staff and not any of the back of house staff. Why work with the public if we seem to annoy you so much...??? When placing the food order we seemed to be taking the precious time of the lady on the till, it was not the warmest of welcomes. The lady serving the drinks looked like a smile may cause her some discomfort and the lady on the ice cream counter seemed to be the only happy one until we went to look at the ice cream selection and we were told 'if you want to order go to the other side of the counter' this was said quite abruptly. If we went to the other side of the counter we would not be able to see the selection. The food however was lovely and would recommend but if you are hoping for any kind of niceties your in for a shock. Maybe the staff don't enjoy working weekends but I would advice some customer service training, even basic training as they are definitely in need. I would highly recommend travelling a little further to Branscombe or Beer where you get lovely food and excellent service, definitely 5 star compared to the 1 star service from Longboat cafe.

Great discovery. Really good quality food at surprisingly reasonable prices. The prawns were particularly good. And the ice cream too. All served by very friendly staff.

Would love to give 5 stars as the position of this cafe is brilliant. However my husband ordered a fruit scone with jam. V dry and only one sultana in whole scone. He could only manage a few bites and decided to take it back. Little acknowledgement and no offer of an alternative.

We live locally. How quickly somewhere can lose it. Crab sandwiches until fairly recently were wonderful. Always fresh bread, generously filled with mostly white crabmeat, mayonnaise and decent green salad. Today was otherwise. Yesterday's bread, filling was all crab roe, what there was of it, with perhaps the vaguest sprinkle of white meat. Raw pepper, with lettuce not at all crisp and no offer of dressing or mayonnaise. £25.60 for two sandwiches and one coffee. View remains pleasant and the diving seagulls were having a day off. Cosy Teapot here we come.

Stopped for a bite to eat, Brie/bacon/cranberry panini was delicious as was a prawn sandwich . Definitely recommend 😁👍

Had a breakfast here this morning and I must say that it the best breakfast I have had for a very long time. Everything was perfectly cooked and served up quite quickly even though it was very busy. The staff were lovely too.

We discovered this lovely cafe on a mooch around Budleigh Salterton one Sunday morning. They were still serving breakfast, so we treated ourselves to a veggie sausage bap and a bacon and egg bap. Both hit the spot and the coffee was really good too. We look forward to returning.

Simply THE best bacon and scallop bap I've ever tasted.

On Budleigh beach seafront on a sunny Mother's Day and it was really busy, though the staff were getting everyone through quite quickly. We had cheese paninis with coleslaw and coffee. It was very nice and the staff were great and very friendly.

This cafe is right on the beach so you would expect high prices, but you would be wrong the prices are very reasonable, silly names for different types of cooked full English breakfasts, but cooked very well. The young man who served me (Short with an earring didn't get his name) was so polite and friendly which prompted me to write this review.. I would definitely recommend this cafe.
