Longboat Cafe in East Devon

Thought we’d have a bite to eat here as we normally only have an ice cream. I had a bacon and scallop soft roll with salad and my partner had a cheese and sun dried tomato toasted panini. We both had a soft drink and it came to less than £20 an absolute bargain. They even gave our little dog half a sausage cut up as a treat I would not hesitate to go back and living not far away I definitely will.

Just had the ice cream, all delicious and a good price. Seating outside so can sit and look at the v iew while enjoying a drink or a lovely ice cream

Amazing position on the seafront. Laidback relaxed atmosphere. Cheerful, helpful and efficient staff. Tasty fresh food.

We have stopped off here several times this summer for breakfast or an ice-cream. Last week we were just in time to order breakfast before the kitchen shut to get ready for lunch. Despite this the staff were polite and friendly and the food freshly cooked and delicious. The covered seating area is a great idea. Dog friendly. Would recommend.

Very nice. We called in for a beer on the way back from a walk but we found out that they can only serve alcohol if you buy food. We decided to stay and we both had panini which was nice.

please teach your staff how to make coffee. I ordered a oat milk flat white and watched it being made and it was so hot and burnt it was almost undrinkable . so many places have the same issues . Training is so important to make good coffee and keep people coming back.

Staff were rude and obnoxious when we popped in for lunch for 6. The way we were spoken to guaranteed we would take our business elsewhere. Some manners and respect required if you are to stay in business!

Really good sandwiches and their milk shakes are beyond reproach--made with your choice of ice cream and fresh milk. Lovely location right on the sea front. Avoid the coffee--used to be good but is now dispensed via a push button machine. These are sold to establishments like the Longboat as a fresh coffee machine because it does grind beans, but the coffee still tastes horrid. They may save the cafe time, but they cost custom and reputation for quality...

The most perfect location to sit and enjoy the sea view right next to the beach. It's worth taking a trip here just for this. The staff were friendly and efficient. The lunch menu is a little basic, offering a choice of sandwiches, rolls, toasted paninis or a pot of prawns, but this would be perfectly acceptable if what is served is of a good standard. Unfortunately that's not the case. It seemed that the bread for the sandwiches and the bap rolls had been picked up along the road at Tesco rather than making the effort to source higher quality bakery products. Cheap margerine had been used on the bread and the roll which had quite an unpleasant taste. The prawns in the sandwich were quite wet and watery. There is a choice of a salad garnish or coleslaw alongside the sandwiches- why not both? The coleslaw was nothing special, and definitely not home made. There is scope here to make improvements which would make such a difference. As locals we would return regularly if the food was better. Please just add a pound to all your prices and up the quality. Until then, I'd return for coffee and cake but lunch is to be avoided.

Had an excellent full English breakfast at The Long boat cafe yesterday. Sat outside and the food was fab as were the really friendly staff. Just under a tenner for cooked breakfast and mug of tea. Highly recommend.

We live locally. How quickly somewhere can lose it. Crab sandwiches until fairly recently were wonderful. Always fresh bread, generously filled with mostly white crabmeat, mayonnaise and decent green salad. Today was otherwise. Yesterday's bread, filling was all crab roe, what there was of it, with perhaps the vaguest sprinkle of white meat. Raw pepper, with lettuce not at all crisp and no offer of dressing or mayonnaise. £25.60 for two sandwiches and one coffee. View remains pleasant and the diving seagulls were having a day off. Cosy Teapot here we come.

We discovered this lovely cafe on a mooch around Budleigh Salterton one Sunday morning. They were still serving breakfast, so we treated ourselves to a veggie sausage bap and a bacon and egg bap. Both hit the spot and the coffee was really good too. We look forward to returning.

On Budleigh beach seafront on a sunny Mother's Day and it was really busy, though the staff were getting everyone through quite quickly. We had cheese paninis with coleslaw and coffee. It was very nice and the staff were great and very friendly.

This cafe is right on the beach so you would expect high prices, but you would be wrong the prices are very reasonable, silly names for different types of cooked full English breakfasts, but cooked very well. The young man who served me (Short with an earring didn't get his name) was so polite and friendly which prompted me to write this review.. I would definitely recommend this cafe.

Very enjoyable visit to this cafe by the sea. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Cream teas seemed a bit expensive when there was only one scone and a single cup of tea rather than a pot. Plenty of cream though! Very pleasant.

This was my destination of choice in Budleigh but it hasn't been good in the recent past. That has all changed. New owners have taken it on and based on my bacon bap today it is back to being good.

Called in with family to buy crab sandwiches, which the lady serving said were locally caught and the best in the area. They certainly are. Not cheap, but freshly made and served with salad and crisps.

No outside seating, no cards taken - cash only = in this Covid-19 times very questionable. Run out of crab sandwiches so all in all a futile trek - won't be returning to the rude woman serving any time soon.

This is a gem and right on the Promenade overlooking the sea! Our first choice of food was crab but sold out due to demand. The food is all home produced by the owner and the quality and presentation outstanding. The owner and all the staff clearly have a 5 star approach...the owner actually gave us the telephone so that on future visits crab (from a local boatman) will be reserved for us...(how good is that)...scones are probably the best ever...each member of staff were a credit in every way to the longboat!

I visit here regularly on my own and with family and friends and have finally gotten around to leaving a review. What a wonderful setting to enjoy good food with or without company, my absolute favourite is the fresh crab sandwich while my husband always opts for a panini. I have always received a friendly welcome and consider this to be the only place to have my lunch or afternoon tea in Budleigh. Keep up the good work.

We visit Devon regularly and often visit the Longboat Cafe in Budleigh Salterton. Never disappointed with the quality of food and the friendly service that we receive! Always happy to help and never kept waiting long for your food. Definitely recommend that if you visit Budleigh Salterton, pop in to the Longboat for something to eat or drink, especially the scones with jam and cream!

Went today for girls lunch out had crab sandwiches, panini, a salad and jacket potatoes. Great tasting and looking food and lovely staff. loved the view would definitely come again.

I was appauled the way the owner spoke towards her customers and behind their backs! Will not be returning any time soon. However the crab was fresh and tasted ok

We made a special visit for a cream tea and were pleased to see the offer of ‘a scone, jam and cream with a cup of tea or filter coffee’ for £4.65. So I enter and ask for two scones with jam and cream, a tea and a coffee. I was then asked if I wanted the coffee in a cup or mug. This slightly confused me, does it really matter? But I chose a mug. What sort of coffee? Um, well, just a filter coffee. That’s £10.20, she said. By now I’m completely confused. Even my level of maths made the cost under £10.I take the tray out and after rereading the sign come back to ask why I was not given the offer price. But you asked for a mug, not a cup! she said. Bit sneaky eh? Why offer me a mug if it changes the price? And fail to inform me? She then came out, placed 55p on the table as ‘the difference’ and rather rudely told me to read the sign properly. Well, the difference was actually 90p. Remember next time, she added. Well, guess what? There won’t be a next time! Very poor customer service!

Unhelpful, almost defensive and patronising attitudes from staff, when ambiguities arose over an advertised cost. Although the food was good, issues such as having to put your tea bag in after the water had cooled, and staff taking away items from the table before people had finished, causing a sense of unwonted presence, and contributed to the unfriendly atmosphere.

We bought coffee, tea, cakes and soft drinks and sat at a table on the seafront. Our bill was £16 . There were several tables free. We sat for no more than 30 minutes and our tray was cleared away before one of our group had finished her drink. Suddenly from the depths of this cafe out MARCHED a lady who asked if we were eating lunch and when we said we wouldn’t be, she asked us ‘to leave or move to a table in the shade!!’ Always a mistake to give the wrong person a bit of power and probably better to run a ‘fast food’ establishment if you want your paying customers gone within half an hour! Never again...and as an extra note of caution ..their coffee is horrible too!

We arrived for lunch last Sunday with my daughter and her 8 month old baby girl . A Very hot and sunny day and as we know there are usually parasols up we felt this would be perfect for such a young baby. How wrong we were, we were refused a parasol by an older woman behind the counter after I asked one of the young waiting staff who looked a bit embarrassed. My daughter ordered her lunch and tea for my husband and I ( my husband was refused a tea cake as it was lunchtime not breakfast apparently) while we tried to keep baby happy in the hot conditions. If we had a parasol we could have had a proper lunch but it was ruined by an unhelpful older staff member. The young waiting staff were pleasant and helpful but could not do anything to in this case.

This is a great cafe half way along the beach, ideal to stop and relax after a long walk along the beach and high street, the food is cooked fresh and is tasty, it is dog friendly with a dogie ice cream, it is a lovely spot to relax over lunch and look out across the sea and cliffs towards Torquay bay.

Lovely little cafe right on the seafront. I’d highly recommend their savoury platter which comes with an absolutely perfect cheese scone. Without doubt the best I’ve ever had. 10/10

Delicious tuna melt panini and cakes! Good coffee too. Recommended. Only takes cash, and toilet is 200m away, but location and food more than compensates.

This is a lovely find. walk along the promenade to come across this little gem. We only had a Latte here ,but other delights are available. Staff really nice and chatty.

During the summer season I would recommend visiting the longboat cafe. Right by the sea, beautiful views and some of the best crab sandwiches I have tasted. Lots of outside space for you to sit out and enjoy the view with your furry friends (dog friendly).

We had a delicious cheese scone here right on the seafront overlooking the sparkling sea. The chairs were comfortable and we spent a relaxing time gazing at the smooth pebbles of the beach and the glistening water

Enjoyed an delicious crab sandwich sitting at a table overlooking the sea and bay in hot sunshine. Very helpful staff and quick service. Were warned to watch out for the seagulls but fortunately they were elsewhere today.

We ate here a couple of times during our holiday. Good quality sandwiches and paninis. The coffee is quite good too. They're a bit funny about smokers and vapers at their outside tables, even the ones well away from the cafe entrance.
