Clean warm good sized rooms and facilities, could do with some hooks in rooms for coats etc., and a reading lamp both sides of double in room 4. Friendly, nice bar and lounge quirky in a good way, lovely well kept ales, right within stones throw of all the best of Shoreham, close to station, walking distance to Galleria Italian restaurant, nice area around church, and the Ropetackle Arts Centre...

We stayed for a night at this pub. We were welcomed very warmly and enjoyed a drink in the bar. Our room was faded and old, but the bed was comfortable and we did enjoy a good night's sleep, Live music, frighteningly loud in the bar, was well muted when we were in our room so, as we were tired, it didn't keep us awake. A number of small details: hot shower but poor pressure, a non-working soap dispenser, the windows all painted shut meant that we won't retrurn and can't recommned it to anyone. Not a miserable experience, rather a poor one and poor value for money.

Disappointed in the accommodation. Our room was dated and tatty and carpets and bedding old and worn. The bathroom skirting boards held together with duck tape and I was a little freaked out when I saw the mouse trap under the dressing table. We couldn't open any windows, our room was hot and stuffy. Very poor lighting on stairs when going to our room and the bottom of the stairs was full of clutter. The location was good right next to the station to be able to get out and about and all the staff seemed friendly however unfortunately the rooms need a lot of money spending on them.

I met a friend there yesterday for a lunchtime catch up, because we have been there before in the winter and love the cosy snug at the back. However, not only was the fire in the lovely fireplace not lit, there is now a round table shoved in front of the fireplace, flanked by 2 large chairs. It was a cold day and didn’t feel much warmer inside. I went to the bar to ask where the light bites menu was, to be told that everything was in the menu I had in my hand. Gone are the Welsh Rarebit type snacks. Just sandwiches or a choice of 3 paninis. We were told there was “no ham and no cod”. My friend settled for a cheese sandwich and I went for a tuna and cheddar panini. My friend said the sandwich was ok, nothing special. My panini was hot and that’s about all it had going for it. Just a pale colour with brown stripes from the sandwich toaster and squashed flat like a pancake. We would have also preferred our small glasses of wine to be in a small glass rather than a large one which made them look like half finished drinks! When I got home it took several hours for my feet to warm up even though I had put thick socks and leg warmers on! My friend told me she had to wrap herself in a fleeced blanket to warm up.I really would advise the new owners to use the fire in the snug because it was such a feature.I would also suggest that someone uses a cloth and some Mr Muscle to clean off the dirty grey patch which surrounds the metal plate on the toilet doors where people push the door to enter. It is on both toilet doors and the gents goes off the restaurant. I was there for a Christmas lunch a few weeks ago (which was enjoyable), but I jokingly commented to my friends that the dirty toilet door was putting me off my food. Not sure how long the new people have been there, but I would suggest that they make a few adjustments before they lose custom. My friend and I have crossed it off our list of future lunch venues.

How assured me he would get back to me , but yes you've guessed it , he didn't . So I sent an email and I'm still waiting for a reply. That was nearly 2 weeks ago . Terrible customer service

I had heard the food was good, but this is wrong. It's not good; it's actually exceptional.Went to watch the football and ordered Steak and Ale pie. The meat was lean and tender, the sauce and gravy delicious, the puff pastry great, the vegetables as they should be - not too mushy, slightly a le dente. The plum crumble for pudding was equally impressive with great custard just as it should be. All washed down with a great Ale.The service was also friendly, attentive and professional. The atmosphere relaxed and comfortable. The pub itself is very clean and well maintained. All in all a very pleasant experience with delicious food

I have been a regular to this pub for a good few years now and always enjoy walking through the door and being greeted with a smile and by name personally. Unfortunately i lost my father recently a went in to have a chat with the new landlord, as to whom i only know as Johnny. I inquired about having my dad's wake here and how glad the family were for choosing the crabtree. The buffet was amazing and very reasonably priced and all of the staff went out of their way to give him the best send off possible. We were given the restaurant area for the food and ample seating and we were also given the snug area which is very cosy and peaceful for the older ones that attended that day. From me and on behalf of my family, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for how you made a difficult time so special, and look forward to seeing you again soon.

We are looking to move to Shoreham and have been to this pub when visiting the area. The food has always been wonderful, I had the seafood meze which is delicious. We also enjoy Aspalls cider ( most pubs only serve Stongbow/Magners on draught which is too chemical in taste for us). There were two blazing fireplaces ideal for a cold February day . The staff were helpful and courteous. I would like to see a separate area for children as I enjoy a chat with friends rather than listening to the 3 young boys who were running around yelling, this is the parents fault rather than the pubs. When we become permanent residents in Shoreham we will definitely make this our local.

My husband had the steak and kidney pie and I had the roast beef, lovely fresh veg but stuffing with roast beef ugh! And the roasties were deep fried, pie was ok nothing special. Due to a christening one of our usual Shoreham haunts last weekend, Sunday lunch wasn't available to be booked, so a "sub" needed to be found. There are several pubs in Shoreham where the food frequently disappoints and then I suddenly remembered that although we had happily drank in the Crab Tree on occasion since it's smart facelift a few years back, we had yet to sample the menu!I telephoned and the lady at the other end of the phone was more than happy to book us a table for 4pm at a time of our choice, we opted for 2pm. Sunday arrived and we were running a little late and were a little worried that our table may have been given away, but no way Jose! A delightful table in the dining room next to the fire was still resserved and waiting. Nice wood floor, easy access to the bar, smart chandalier made for a good start. The bar staff were welcoming and efficient and this pub appears spotless everywhere. Our order was taken at the bar and swifty four fantastic roasts appeared, one lamb, one beef and one stunning vegetarian crumble complete with a seperate boat of vegetarian gravy. Another of our party opted for one of their homemade pies, with the option of Sunday vegetables or chips etc (nice touch), they opted for the Sunday vegetable selection and what a selection! Roast potatoes, carrots, brocolli, roast parsnips, buttered mashed swede and red cabbage! All came with a yorkie pud and all plates were subsquently cleared with haste, all agreeing that it was one of the best roast Sunday lunches at a pub that we had had in a very long time! Those not wanting the traditional lunch can opt for their other main menu and the choice there was equally as tempting and we shall be back to put that menu to the test too!Well done to the Crab Tree, finally some decent pub food in Shoreham!

We have eaten three times now at this pub and although the food has always been good, especially on a Wednesday or Thursday when they have their "Special Meal & Drink" deals each time has been spoiled by groups of noisy children running backwards and forwards through the dining area. As this pub has wooden floors you can only imagine the level of noise from these screaming kids, their parents not taking any notice as they sit safely in the comfort of the bar area. Each time we have visited this pub we thought it was a one-off and we were unlucky so we did try again (Twice), however this will be the last time as there are plenty of very good eating places in the area who do not allow this type of behaviour and value their clients more.

Yes, the service is slow at the Crab Tree. There appeared to be only one person behind the bar and one in the kitchen, even though the pub was quite busy on this freezing Wednesday evening in January. However, the food was worth the wait. We both ordered steak and kidney pie from the "under £6" menu and it was really excellent, beautifully presented on the plate with a wonderful selection of vegetables including red cabbage and swede and carrot mash. I suppose they make their profit on the drinks: I thought the Fullers London Pride was expensive at £3.60 but it was a very nice pint.

Lovely walk along the seafront in the sunshine to shoreham followed by a Sunday roast. What a perfect way to spend a precious day off. Well it may have been perfect had we chosen a different place for lunch. We sat down and ordered drinks, started chatting only to realise that we were sitting right in front of what turned out to be a performance area for an afternoon entertainer - PA system literally 12 inches from my head. Now I have seen this entertainer before (Black horse - Rottingdean) and he is - er... entertaining, but, and here's the thing, when booking a table, for 8 people for lunch, would it not have been advisable to warn the group that there was going to be loud entertainment and that entertainment would be pretty much on your table. Anyway we decided to get the conversation in quick as the loud music kicked in and we ordered our food - mostly roasts and a couple of 'Mountain' burgers. The waiter was confused at the request for mountain burgers as he was unaware that they were even on the menu. He turned out to be the owner! An owner that doesn't even know what the kitchen is serving - that's a new one on me. Anyway we sat there for an hour awaiting our food trying to enjoy the entertainment and convince the mother-in-law to remove the makeshift paper napkin earplugs she had cleverly constructed. After an hour the waiter/owner came over and said "Sorry no roasts left...nothing I can do about it. Choose something else." An hour - a bloody hour we sat there waiting for our food - to be told that. What a farce! He obviously then sent one of the waitresses over to tell us that we could have any food for free, but by that stage the damage had been done and we decided to leave. A real shame. It's a lovely place - right on the river with a great beer garden but for goodness sake - sort it out. The owner said he's been had the place for a couple of years. I just hope that someone who has a clue about customer service, and knows how to manage a kitchen takes it over soon because I shan't be returning as long as the present owner is cluelessly running the place.
