The Cowherds in Southampton

First visit to The Cowherds in a long time, absolutely won’t be the last. Wonderful food, drink and atmosphere. Great selection of Sunday roasts and other menu options. We were served by Tabi and honestly don’t think we’ve ever had such wonderful service. Tabi was attentive but not invasive, friendly and welcoming. Would absolutely recommend. Vegetarian options and dessert were wonderful. Very happy with our meals, around £30 per person for a Sunday roast, pint and dessert.

Great service from Luke and good food in pleasant surroundings . Good atmosphere and nice birthday surprise provided.

Fantastic restaurant with wonderful food, made all the better by Luke’s attentive service. He was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble. If you are lucky enough to have Luke as your server you are in for a treat. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Fab pub near my cruise stopover hotel. Food was fab, plus my favourite New Zealand wine. An added bonus of a mini pie on the side, a proper bonus for a northern lads! Plus a big shout out to the lovely server, Antonia! Had no cash for a tip but I will if I come again :-)

Went in for lunch with my wife and daughter who is autistic. It was quite busy and we asked to move to a quieter area and Gemma was more than accommodating for my daughter. Gemma made us all feel much more relaxed in a quiet area of the pub. Thank you so much Gemma!!

Visited with family. The food was good. There's a car park at the rear. There's a big playground nearby on the common.

Luke was a good server, checking in to ensure we had what we needed. Plenty of reserved parking, free provided you punch in your licence plate once inside. Good food, and lots of it!

After a good walk in common, se stopped by for a pudding and coffee. Staff was friendly.

We were here for a cruise and had the total pleasure of going to The Cowherds Restaurant. The fish and chips was excellent as was our server Luke. Thank you Luke. We highly recommend this restaurant.

My first visit was in 1984 when I moved down to Soton. The pub has changed in size but the place needs a total refurbishment. The decoration is tired + dirty. As a disabled customer I went to use the appropriate bathroom. The radar lock wasn’t working, the toilet was smeared with excrement. I alerted a member of staff + found the main toilets. These were disgusting, toilets dirty + decor tired . Might I suggest new toilets, redecorate & replace radar lock. On a happier note the roasts were excellent & our waiter was great.

We’ve stopped here on our way along the south coast and it proved to be good choice. We were very well served by Luke and had great food for the kids and ourselves. Since we are trailering with two small children (2 and 5 years old) we also appreciated the fact that a good playground was close by

Good pitstop for pet owners. Unfortunately Belgian Fries are just awful, not fresh, very spicy. Altogether extremely expensive food for this low quality

Lovely food, lovely service, and really nice surroundings.

The staff where so friendly and helpful.. the food is always excellent the wine malbec is reasonably priced and very good .. the dog was welcome given water and treats .. really enjoyable thank you 10 out of 10

The food was nice. And the place have a nice vibe.

We waited an hour for our food and when it eventually arrived the chips were inedible. I hope others have a more enjoyable experience. I will never go back. By the time the food turned up I wished we'd picked up a pasty in Greggs.

First time here for work social, wonderful food. Would recommend and come again.

No chance I will ever go here again. Parked in the car park at the back at 10 in the morning, saw no signs around near the parking space, car park was empty. Had a breakfast, coffee then 3 weeks later I receive a parking fine of £100 !! NEVER GO HERE !

I had a fantastic family meal here a couple of Sundays ago. Their 3 dishes for £10 menu is astonishing value, especially given the fresh ingredients and generous portions. Regular menu also very reasonable, given the quality and portion sizes. Really friendly service from Gemma, who was lovely with our kids, brining them colouring-in papers and crayons and chatting with them about their Pokémon cards, nothing was too much trouble. Plenty of free parking round the back (didn’t spot that initially!) and pub is located directly next to a lovely big playpark with soft white sand and slides/swings/climbing things for all ages. Will definitely stop in again the next time we’re in Southampton, was a real hit!

Came for lunch with 6 kids in total, so not the easiest to cater for, but thoroughly looked after by Terry the whole time. Food was great and everyone left happy

We had a lovely meal at the Cowherds. The service was excellent and staff lovely, especially Gemma who was very friendly and an asset to the pub. It was great to have a dog friendly pub with a great atmosphere.

A lovely place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The food was great and the service from Gemma was excellent. We'll be going back to the Cowherds soon.

A lovely quaint pub offering great meals at reasonable prices. We both had the Fish and Chips, such generous servings, they were very flexible in that we did not want peas but salad served with the meal. Chips were excellent. Food was served very hot and promptly, our waitress was friendly, professional, and kept checking to see if all was fine. I did not have dessert but the menu was tempting, an again reasonably priced. Would definitely visit again.

The place was cozy and spacious; appears busy as the day goes. We ordered sunday roast. Food was excellent, very tasty and had good portions. Lastly, we received excellent service from Luke, nice chap and very attentive. We’ll definitely come back

Roast was pretty average, dry, fairly flavorless. Looks great, but lacked in all other areas. Service was great, the waitress’ in there are lovely!

Our server was Gemma. She was attentive and friendly throughout service. She took special care of my elderly parents. Her friendliness and keenness to make our experience as lovely as possible was very impressive

OK food, some highlights; but generally disinterested and disorganised service. Seemed determined to avoid eye contact at all times. We more or less had to do everything ourselves, except cook the food and bring it to the table. Fundamental communication between staff was almost nonexistent. It was a quiet Monday lunch time. My full comments about our visit were sent via your automated feedback form (which took ages, by the way)

Smart pub, on the edge of the equally smart Southampton common,rustic style restaurant, with switched on staff and very enjoyable food.

Food was ok. However my husbands fillet steak was more medium well done than medium/rare, and the roast potatoes were quite pale and more like boiled potatoes, the parsnips were hard- however the turkey meat was tender. Nobody came and checked with us on how our food was for each course. We had to clear our plates as they were sat with us for over 15-20mins. We had to ask for cutlery for each course as none on table. Table was booked for 5:30 and they told us they were still doing table service after a busy afternoon for Father’s Day and we were seated immediately. Service was very very slow. We ended up ordering second round of drinks from the bar directly as no one asked us if we wanted anything more. The first order it would have been quicker to go to the bar to order the drinks. Food coming out for each course was very slow. Starters come out about 6:40, mains came out about 7:30, dessert came out about 8:15. Very very disappointed especially as it was for Father’s Day and we came after the busy lunchtime/ mid afternoon rush. Needless to say no tip was left for service as service was non existent and direct feedback was given to the waitress so she knew why no tip was left! After spending over £230 for 4adults and 2 children, you would have expected better or even an offer of a refund. But nothing. This is our second bad visit for food. Never going back again and we will not recommend to anyone either.

A great place to eat and relax. Tabi served us and she was a pleasure. So nice. Drinks were cold and the food was hot and delicious. Smoked Haddock Cakes were so good. The other dishes were just as great.

Had some drinks outside in the sunshine which was lovely. The website ordering is a really nice idea, however I think they favour the people that go in and order at the bar in person, as it took 35 minutes to get 3 beers brought to outside. But it was still lovely and would go again

Food not good over priced long wait do not like service charge included in the bill would not have given a tip and will not be coming back and definitely would not recommend
