Sadly, it was a very bad experience for a £27 afternoon tea. Dirty cutlery, cups and table, reused sugar with coffee stains in it, "cakes" that were old and supermarket bought and too little clotted cream for 2 scones.

My friend and I went here on Thursday 9th May. We ordered two salads and two pots of tea. Good price we thought. When the meals came they were very well presented and were really good. I would definitely recommend the food. Our complaint was the tea! The pots were just half full, they were only small pots as it was, just enough for one small cup. My friend went back to ask if they would please add some more hot water. ... No she was told, it would cost 50p for some water.. Of course we had some as we wanted another cup each with our lunch. When we mentioned the advert re.the tea /coffee for £1 the waitress said we didn't ask for that. Surely that could have been offered us when we ordered. We don't particularly object to paying for hot water if we had our own item to use it for, but when we have a pot of tea we expect a POT not just enough for one small cup. We will definitely not be returning there for any drinks, shame because the meals were lovely.

Hubby tried to be all romantic and take me out for lunch so he was severely disappointed to be told that we were not allowed to sit upstairs in the gorgeous 18th century surroundings and have high tea but had to sit in the echoey, noisy, highly unromantic shopping centre with a cream tea. The scone was nice, the cream and jam weren't that great and we were given about a thimble full of milk to go with our tea. All served by the most unenthusiastic staff who quite clearly were there under duress. 5 stars to the hubby for effort but he was let down by his choice of venue.

I visited just after 3pm today with my wife, hoping to enjoy a romantic afternoon tea. Despite there being signs out inviting us to go up to the tea lounge we were told that upstairs was closed with no explanation offered. I was slightly confused as there is nothing that says the upstairs closes early. We didn't particularly fancy having a full afternoon tea downstairs in the middle of the shopping centre, so instead just had a cream tea, which was nice enough but not exactly the romantic afternoon I had planned.

The staff were more than useless the young man was bringing the food out then walking around like a zombie trying to find who's food it was, tried to crack a joke but could not even raise a smile! The young lady on many occasions walked past dirty tables with crockery on, it was painful to watch them both. My sister and I were very disappointed

Stopped here as I was shopping in marlands and it did look good but as I was on my own I would have preferred to sit inside rather than outside in court area as it was very sunny and noisy. It was lunchtime and was told the seating area upstairs was closed. My order came out wrong but they did change it. It was basic but value for money. No cutlery or napkins came with the food and I was not informed where to find them. No staff around so had to leave my food and with my bags go to look for a member of staff who pointed to a direction I could find them (inside). I was disappointed with the service as this type of establishment could be really good if staff were more ammeanable.

Two staff and we were the only customers at 10.30a.m. Two mugs of water with tea bags in were plonked in front of us, £3.60 asked for and then we were told if we wanted milk it was in the large jug on the counter. My partner said that he'd prefer to put the milk in after the tea bags were taken out so we were given some milk in a small receptacle. Went to a table outside where I noticed an offer of tea plus pain au chocolate for £3 between the hours of 10 and 11 on a sign on a window. Went inside and asked why we weren't offered the offer. Reply? Because you didn't ask! Amazing that you have to pay more for less. Found the whole experience very shoddy and unwelcoming.
