The Cow & The Bean in East Devon

Been wanting to try this restaurant for ages, finally got round to it and we won’t be returning. It was a Saturday night so thought it would be busy in there but only one other table, we placed our order and after waiting 20 minutes I had to go to the till and ask for our drinks, they eventually arrived, had to drink out of a bottle, wasn’t offered any glasses. Again, waited ages and finally our burgers arrived, admittedly the burgers themselves were delicious. However, we ordered chips with them that arrived just as we finished our burgers. The chips were freezing cold so we refused to eat them and pay for them. On top of all this, I saw one of the chefs quite obviously smoking/vaping in the kitchen. They had so many staff on and the waiters excuse for everything was that it was a ‘busy evening’. As I said before, there was only one other table in there other than ourselves. Terrible service.

We’ve dinned here many times before and it’s always great. The service is good, but the food… oh the food. The burgers are amazing. Im guilty of always getting the spicy jalapeño burger, and it never fails to deliver. The spice in that is no joke. 🔥🔥🔥 My wife has to get a gluten free bun as she has coeliac disease, and it’s never too much trouble to accommodate this. The kids burger meals are also top value for money. We will return again and again.

WOW 🤩 best burgers we’ve ever had!! On our hols. If only the cow and bean wasn’t 4 hours drive away from where we live, this would definitely be our chosen burger place every time for sure! Can’t recommend enough! We had the brisket and the tender rib burgers 🍔

Great burgers for both meat eaters and veggies. Simple menu with enough choice. Fries were really good. Portions large and value for money. Highly recommend.

After a very bad welcome at The Castle Inn for having a child with us we found this place. Omg thank you to The Castle Inn! I have had the best vegetarian burger ever so much flavour. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food with such a lovely relaxed welcoming atmosphere. Quick service, although busy we didn’t wait too long and very reasonably priced. As my son said ‘best burger he’s ever had!’ I would definitely recommend here.

Me and my wife were searching for somewhere to have dinner and saw Cow and Bean on Google. Reviews were good so thought we’d go there and give it a try. When we entered there was no one else there. The floor was dirty and the tables weren’t clean. My wife saw the staff smoking in the kitchen as we entered and they tried to disguise it by waving the smoke away. We didn’t stay to eat as I find that a health hazard and absolutely disgusting 🤢 Instead we went to the George across the road and had an absolutely fantastic meal in there.

It's the BEST burger🍔 I've ever had... better than 7 Bones and 5 Guys. It's a long wait for a takeaway, by no mean fast food... In fact, we had to go back there to collect our order more than an hour later (unless you order before 6pm on a Saturday or after 8pm). It's worth the wait. I ordered a mushroom 🍄 🍄 with blue 🧀 ..it's so 😋😋😋. We'll definitely go back there again.

Best burgers ever! Amazing fries! The chocolate milkshake was epic! We came here on recommendation from a local, never visited before, and we will come back even though it’s an hour drive. Service was fast, place is eclectic and looks rough and ready, food is served with a minimum of fuss and a maximum flavour. So impressed! The only thing I didn’t think fit great was the dodgy rap music! Made me cringe 😬 will be back!

Sorry guy but this place has started to suck. Every time or / wife orders they get it wrong. Never cooked on time. Always having to wait 10-20 mins(not fast food) chef is ever so rude to people. Got my order wrong an said so what just eat it. One thing I will never go back there

Simple Food, executed so so well! The restaurant in and of its self, from a decor point of view is nothing to write home about. On the other hand, you barely even notice your surroundings as you immerse yourself in juicy beef burger goodness. A friendly, familiar service accompanies the food, and a takeaway service is readily available. Enjoy!

Words just can’t describe these burgers!! On a seven night holiday we visited at least 3 or 4 times. See you guys in December.. great food and lovely staff.
