Beer Head Bistro in East Devon

Ate in the Bistro once for an evening meal, twice for breakfast and had a takeaway whilst on a recent holiday. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the bistro itself is dog friendly. I felt the menu offered me enough choice, (I can be quite fussy). Plenty of the ingredients are from the local area making use of other small businesses, which is a great philosophy to be able to have. Would definitely return.

We walked up from Beer for lunch after reading other positive reviews. The staff were very friendly and efficient and the food was good although the fish was slightly dry. The wine was very good and well chilled. The view of the bay is beautiful on a sunny day. We would love to go back again.

I had dinner here this afternoon with my husband and two small children. The staff were so lovely and accommodating to all of us. We ordered the seafood platter- wow! Fresh, delicious and a very big portion for two. Gorgeous views overlooking the bay. We would love to come back again ❤️

Best calamari I've ever eaten, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. They welcome dogs and spoiled mine with attention and treats.

Calamari was excellent, could of had plenty more. Rest of evening was just as good and staff were excellent. Great place to visit with our dog who was more than welcome and also got spoiled

Beer in Devon is a beautiful town to walk through or to make a walk along the cliffs. Walking makes hungry and than you want some good, tasteful and nicely priced food. That is what you get in this Bistro. It takes a few steps on a steep hill but you will get rewarded by a very good kitchen. The chef and the waitresses are clearly passionate for pleasing the customers. We particularly enjoyed the Vegan Burger which was exceptionally tasteful. The fries and the side salads were also perfectly prepared. The quality of this all made it a joy for us.

This is the perfect neighbourhood restaurant we all want. The staff are very friendly and efficient and the food is excellent, with a varied menu and generous portions. You can't beat the view, the local art--it's a gem!

Beautifully situated bistro, overlooking Beer Bay, and the greater Lyme Bay, from whence the local seafood comes from. We had a fry up however, and it was jolly delicious, with thick cut bacon, and local sausages. One little gripe is that they put the beans in a small glass bowl on the plate, but to me this seems to "sterilise" the meal, and it would be better served with the other parts. Just my opinion however. The staff are very lovely, engaging, funny and friendly but above all efficient. There's an older, middle aged waitress who is absolutely brilliant and we always say hi when we visit. I do think it perhaps needs better advertising of its presence however, as I've been locally for nearly 15 years and have only just found it. Pity, because it's wonderful and I would have visited before.

Brilliant views,food and service.a hidden treasure

Fee- fi - fo - fum! We visited, the ‘Beer Head’ Bistro this week, not once, not twice, but thrice! These return visits were due to the very well curated menu, the quality of the food, the attentive, polite staff and the portions! If you want good, value for money food, you simply can’t go wrong here. The seafood sharing platter in particular, was delicious, well cooked, well presented and bloody HUGE!!! The atmosphere, smiley faces, and team spirit within the kitchen and service staff is evident from the moment you turn up! It seemed like a ‘very well run ship!’ While we were eating outside in the sunshine, doing a bit of ‘people watching’ we noticed several famous families, celebrities and renowned film stars coming and going. King Kong and his wife Kate ordered the ribs. I overheard them comment on how delicious they were. Needless to say, they demolished them! Godzilla trudged from the sea with his wife Gabbyzilla and their four kids. They ordered the seafood sharing platter and were offered a prize of a Snickers if they managed to finish it! They failed and left half a goujon and a few crayfish tails.. But the staff gave ‘em the prize anyway! Not to mention boxing the leftovers for them! The Jolly green giant even walked in with his tinder date….. The 50ft woman… They’re both vegetarians and ordered a Greek Salad each. Both commented that they were ‘stuffed!’ afterwards. I heard they drank the place dry before leaving and left a huge tip, so there’s a testament if ever I’ve heard one! Wish we could leave 10 stars xx ❤️✌🏼👌🏼👊🏻 Overall rating…… MEGA !! X

This is OK. They are just starting out ...they do need to refine the staff training and sort out the desserts which were poor. This will improve...I hope

Amazing little find! Spent 3 nights with our caravan on the site and popped in for lunch one day...was so impressed we booked a table for dinner the following night. OMG the food was seriously amazing, we had a lasagne and a fish pie, followed by desserts. Proper home cooking, very reasonably priced. Lovely atmosphere and decor, could almost imagine you were in a little Greek taverna! The waiting staff, although very young, had obviously been trained in customer service to a very high standard, which is very refreshing nowadays...they were super attentive and polite, and made a great fuss of our puppy, bringing her little treats. The bistro is clearly used a lot by the folk who live/stay on the site - what lucky people to have this gem on their doorsteps!

Beautiful food L had the chicken & chips cooked to perfection so tender & tasty generous portion. My partner had fish & chips & said they were the best he's ever had. Friendly staff & fantastic views over Beer Highly recommend.

Nice place, didnt get to eat there as they didnt accommdate walk ins, also went for breakfast at 9am and chef had not arrived. Pricing i felt was quite steep but appreciate that this is seasonal. Nice drinks at the location and staff very friendly

We were staying in our Campervan at Beerhead Caravan Park and were able to get a table on Saturday night - you do need to book as they get very busy and I can understand why. We had a lovely meal and good service - bring you appetite as the portions are a good size, we should have only had a main as the light bites were a lot bigger than a starter but very tasty all the same! Would definitely return.

We decided to eat here after reading great reviews on Tripadvisor. Very pleasant waitress quickly showed us to a table and quickly came to take our drinks order. This is when it all stated to go wrong. A young family arrived at the next table and placed their order for food and drink. Shortly after we ordered our food, and then our drinks were delivered to the family next to us! The waitress realised her mistake, apologised to them, but not us. Another waitress came back to us, said the original one had had ‘a moment’, couldn’t remember what we ordered and could we order again, which we did. A sharing platter arrived, not our order, again next tables order, no sign of our food, so we decided to pay for drinks and leave. When we explained to the waitress why we were leaving, she contradicted us, said it was our meal, we should have waited for the other meal to arrive, we’d already waited 10 minutes. When I asked if she expected us to eat separately, she couldn’t respond. We usually write positive reviews, but on this occasion, we felt we should make our dissatisfaction known.

An unassuming little spot with great sea views. The portions are huge and they serve pub classics with a nice specials option too. Definitely a spot to check out after a long cliff side walk.

Absolutely loved our breakfast with a view! I had a full English which was delicious and my fiancé had scrambled eggs with salmon, which was great except for the eggs being a bit over cooked. Absolutely would come back!

We had terrific food at the Bistro for dinner, lunch and afternoon tea. We'll worth a visit. Open when restaurants in Beer are closed.

As we were staying on site we decided to eat here.Reserved a table as known to get busy. Nice looking place, good interior. Pleasant staff, clean environment. Seated upstairs, felt squashed to the table with the chair literally at the top of the staircase. Varied menu which is average prices for area. Food was slow to be served. Chicken was nice but not as exciting i was expecting with the 'secret seasoning' The side salad was very nice and fresh: slaw was very nice also. Chips were somewhat of a let down. Maybe this is why they were hidden under the chicken?!. Ordered a dessert to share which nice but needed to be at £7.95!

Good quality food and coffee with a stunning view

Seven of us were here for lunch. From fish and chips, burger and chips, half cooked chicken and chips, quiche and salad all were excellent. Didn't have to wait long and food was piping hot. Fantastic views and lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended. Would definitely return. Thank you!

Fabulous atmosphere, for talking to the oldest local in the village who shared wonderful history about the village. Excellent food. Chicken burger was a hit with the kids with the most wonderful spicy coating and homemade coleslaw which was divine. Excellent view of the bay if you choose to sit outside.

Great meal at the Bistro...would definitely recommend trying if you are staying at Beer Head Caravan Park !

As others have said, very good food, friendly service & just a minute from the coast path , with great views. We decided to share a dish, & half the size was twice what you might get elsewhere!

Amazing food with a family friendly atmosphere. You might be tempted to dismiss this place as a caravan site cafe … you’d be all sorts of wrong to do so. Open to residents on the site and those just visiting, the casual setting and friendly accommodating, professional staff set a standard that restaurants in the town centre could only dream of emulating. The menu isn’t large but the four dishes my table had were presented superbly, the amounts were generous (to say the least) and utterly delicious. My advice? Go for the seafood, it’s simply, extraordinary.

We had looked around for somewhere reasonable to eat in Beer and stumbled across the Beer Head Bistro, an unlikely position in the middle of a caravan park but good views and excellent food. We have lunched three or four times and tried most of the fishy dishes, Prawns, Tacos and the Sharing Platter. They all came up fresh, delicious and hot. Prices reasonable, staff friendly and tame seagull under control.

We chose the Bistro for a works leaving meal because of the excellent food and superb service. The best place to eat in Beer, thanks Jo.

We were delighted to find this friendly bistro on our first night in Beer, Devon. Sitting outside, we enjoyed the spaciousness and the beautiful views of the village and sea below. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and our meals were plentiful and delicious. Tips: It's a steep walk up to get there, but that added to the specialness, and the walk down was a breeze. However, some might prefer to drive. Also, they like you to be there before 7 pm, and you might wish to make a reservation as it's a popular restaurant, deservedly so.

Really good food and friendly staff

Father's Day celebration. The food was piping hot. The portions were generous, beautifully cooked and competitively priced. I chose the fish and chips which were done to perfection. The chips were golden, and the fish batter was light and crispy. Others chose sea bass, or the chicken burger and chips. All comments were complimentary. We sat outside and had an outstanding view of the coastline. The staff were all friendly and helpful, which made for a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Thank you.

A friend recommended the fish platter. It was excellent. Goujons, crayfish in a seafood sauce, calamari, and prawns. Really well presented and delicious.

Such a lovely place to go for a early morning cooked breakfast which is cooked perfectly and what views while you eat many other foods provided during the day too but full English breakfast is 10 out of 10

A five star rating doesn’t give this place the justice it deserves. The food is absolutely delicious, the nicest meal we have had in a long long time. The staff are incredibly polite and nothing is too much to ask. We are sad to be leaving the site tomorrow, we wished we had at least another night here purely for the food. Please don’t think twice about eating here, you will not be disappointed.

Disappointed with the lack of communication and having to wait 45 minutes for a cooked breakfast, it wasn't even that busy 😕 a progress update would of been good!

Following a recommendation from the owner of our B and B we decided to pay the Beer Head Bistro a visit for a quick bite after a day out with our two spaniels. This is a tucked away gem on a caravan sight and has beautiful sea views. We opted for the vegetarian quiche which was accompanied by delicious chips, coleslaw and salad and I’d definitely go for this again. The quiche didn’t have pastry which is a double bonus for me! Big shout out to the young man who served us, he was really welcoming, very polite and friendly, I didn’t catch his name but he said he hadn’t worked there very long.

Lovely food here but this has been spoilt by our recent visit. Went to place an order for a takeaway and we were told they were not doing them. Friday evening and you would think that was a given. We were informed they are that busy, they have to concentrate on the people in the restaurant. It would have been courteous to perhaps put a sign in the window. I must say, the main lady here really does need to improve her customer service skills, as was found to be very rude. We had planned our evening around this, so you can imagine our frustration. Some very disappointed customers, who had previously praised the place, but not now.

Absolutely incredible place. Beautiful vines growing up the front, with perfect views out to sea. Great selection of local drinks. I had the fish tacos, sooooo good! Cant recommend this place enough if you’re in Beer or Branscombe :)

Fantastic food all cooked fresh with a variety of food choices, the roasted half chicken was superb, drinks were reasonably priced. Sat in the middle of the caravan park with great views of the bay, well worth the walk up the hill.

Absolutely lovely place. The staff are friendly, food is delicious, coffee is great and the view is stunning if you sit outside. Very cosy little cafe. I recommend to try and come early so that you can relax without the crowd and enjoy your food.

A nice friendly place for a nice chilled drink, and a good choice of meals.

Friendly welcome, good service and delicious food. The pizza is excellent! Note the toilets are in an adjacent building 50m away down a bit of a hill, so be aware if someone has mobility issues.

Excellent food good service have visited twice this week for late lunch on Easter Sunday and evening meal. It is very busy especially at weekend. Always check first. But they will always try to fit you in if possible.

Have been several times, never disappointed. Great place to start/finish walks either down to town of Beer or across Hooken cliff (marvellous outlook) to Branscombe. Do it!

Superb. I was staying on the campsite that this place is located and had the pleasure of eating here after a long day of walking the coastal path. It was a Sunday evening so they were doing roasts and it was killer.....great potatoes, amazing array of veg and this was topped off with a lovely REALLY LOVELY ​slice of Biscoff Cheesecake....which apparently was made by one of the younger girls that worked in the bistro although I think I was told a little white lie, lol. 😜. Highly recommend this place. 5 out of 5

Had morning coffee up here in the café and views are really special. The evening meals are also excellent with large portions and wonderful choices, the chef and staff are excellent. Highly recommend this place!

Stayed on Beer head caravan park where the Bistro is lovely people food of very high standard they did there Bistro meals to takeaway as well which was great there Rotisserie chickens were amazing if you didn’t want to eat in at the Bistro first class

Excellent place to eat, food is simple but well done, good range of beers and wines and the best view in Beer!

I had a lovely meal of lasagna and roulade, the former of which was very generous, the latter being just the right size to finish the meal. It was much appreciated after finishing my 5th day of walking. Highly recommend.
