The Cow & Sow (Clifton) in Bristol, City of

Me and my partner arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation and were seated immediately on a very very nice spot in a nook right next to a window. We were given time to go over the drinks menu while they grabbed us some water and were speedy at getting us our drinks and taking our food order. My partner got the sirloin medium rare and it was cooked perfect, I got the ribeye rare and was also cooked just to my taste. I would say if you want a less fatty cut to avoid the ribeye. Highly recommend the sticky pork belly and the burnt ends. The chips with beef dripping were sensational! The waiter we had was pleasant and friendly, was extremely satisfied with the experience.

Excellent meal out at th Clifton branch. Food very good, particularly the choice of starters. As a coeliac sufferer, the attention to gluten free detail was first class. Can't fault it.

Great steak and sangria. The ribeye and picanha were good, but the pork tomahawk was not. The peppercorn and garlic butter sauces were great. I’ve visited three times, but I only wish the music wasn’t so loud. I had to keep asking for the volume to be lowered.

Everything was perfect. Food was sublime, drinks were quickly refreshed (and very fairly priced too!) Every single member of staff was attentive and friendly. A really great experience from the moment we stepped through the door to the moment we left.

We had a waitress name Marta who is very kind and service minded, thank you for your kindness. Very recommended this place.

Amazing roast after the cinema with excellent service and super tasty food! Lovely wine too. Such a friendly place that also feels special. Perfect end to a Sunday to be honest!

My partner and I went to Cow and Sow for dinner and we were not disappointed! We had already visited the Queen Square location and very much enjoyed it. I would say the only major difference between both locations is that the floor of the Whiteladies one is a bit more spacious, therefore you can have a bit more privacy. The ambiance is very nice for a date. We ordered both starters as well as a steak to share (which comes with a couple of sides) and a bottle of wine. For the amount and quality of the food, the price is reasonable. The burnt ends starter was incredible, the meat was tender and melted in the mouth. I just wished the serving came with more sauce. The steak to share was delicious and worth the half an hour wait. The portion is definitively enough for two! As you can see in the pictures attached, the sides were very good and accompanied the meat well. There is a wide variety of sides to choose from as well. Finally, I want to thank Anna who served us during the evening. She was very nice and attentive. The team was very welcoming in general. I would recommend it for a special occasion or if you enjoy a good steak!

The first time I visited this restaurant (at Queen Square), I ordered a chateaubriand cooked to medium. It was an excellent steak very tasty and juicy so we decided to return. This time, we went to the Clifton branch and ordered the tomahawk to try something different. Unfortunately, we were not satisfied with the steak as it was overcooked and lacked any juices. The meat had a much tougher texture and exterior. When I raised this with the waitress, she explained that the cooking outcome depends on the cut of steak. She mentioned that tomahawk has more fat than chateaubriand, so the chef cannot cook it to the same standard. For example, ordering chateaubriand at medium will result in a medium-rare steak, but ordering tomahawk at medium will result in a drier steak. I don’t think this explanation is reasonable. Customers should receive the steak cooked to the level they ordered, without needing prior knowledge about how different cuts should be cooked. A well-prepared steak should meet the requested level of doneness, regardless of the cut. Driving to Bournemouth for dinner at your restaurant last time felt disappointing and not worth the trip.

ranjeet was exceptional, the service and the attentiveness that she provided was second to none. It’s rare to find a waitress who clearly loves her workplace like ranjeet does. I will definitely be back for ranjeet!

We didn’t book but managed to bag a walk in. Ronnie, our waitress, made the night! She recommended great dishes, such as the braised ox cheek, and was very easy going and helpful with recommendations. Food was fantastic!

We came here for a dinner with our family before a concert in a church nearby and it truly made our evening! The steak was delicious and the service we received from all the staff but especially Gio was we what made the experience even better! Nothing was too much trouble for her and she made our night! Will definitely be coming back again!

We were there for my sons 21st Birthday meal. The food was excellent, the welcome from Gio was great, but i have to say our waitress was not well received. She seemed she didn't want to be there when taking our booking and then she was heard by a member of our party, who was going to the toilet, that she was speaking to a colleague saying "I've had enough of this place!" I must say, it showed in her approach to taking our order and her manner. We spent £690, the meal was good as i said, it was a little cold where we were sat with the door open and closing, but that's not really your fault, but our waitress did kind of ruin the occasion by seemingly not wanting to be there. There was gratuity included on our bill (£61) , which I should have taken out, but i didn't want the kitchen or the other staff who were accommodating, to miss out on their efforts. The Tomahawk pork was the best hes had, was the opinion of my old fella. A restaurant such as this with a high google rating, really need to ensure they employ the right people and not allow their staff to ruin the diners experience or the special occasion.

This was our first visit, but it won't be our last. The food was exceptionally prepared and tasted sublime, the best ribeye steak by far, the sides were just as good. After comparing different restaurants in Bristol online, we came across this wonderful restaurant rated 4.8/5 stars, boasting seemingly amazing dishes with good portions, and decided to treat ourselves on Christmas Day. Even though they had known for over a month exactly what dishes we were going to eat, with multiple menu confirmations requested, an early reservation, and having informed the waiter that we only had a couple of hours to dine, we found ourselves rushed to make it to our next commitment. With fewer than twenty people in the restaurant and being the first to arrive, it took over forty minutes for the starters to be served and more than fifteen minutes between courses, despite the place being filled with staff. However, I regret to inform you that time isn’t the only thing that will keep you from enjoying the food. Although the primary ingredients seemed to be of good quality, the dishes lacked flavor and creativity, with sauces and sides that added nothing, some parts of the meat cooked incorrectly, and let’s not even mention the desserts... I still don’t understand this restaurant’s rating. The quality-to-price ratio falls far below acceptable, and it’s in no way representative of the truly great food available in the area.

We had a great Xmas lunch for 15. Limited choice at this time of year but the beef was delightful, as expected "Cow" and Sow.

We were there for a celebration & the staff had already helped us when booking as I’m disabled & needed the ground floor. Today we were served by Anna & Jamie & as soon as we walked in the atmosphere was warm, friendly & relaxed. The explanation was very good & the food absolutely amazing. We all had steaks (3 x sirloin & 1 x fillet) & they were cooked perfectly. The house ale was delicious & the cocktails were great. We would recommend it & will definitely be going again.

Amazing staff Gio and Estelle were fabulous at serving us! The food was delicious and I would highly recommend the Mac n cheese. We mentioned it was our anniversary and served us drinks upon arrival and wished us happy anniversary.

I had a fabulous time here celebrating my birthday with family. I had fillet steak and it was cooked to perfection. There was a set menu option available and this looked excellent value. Our servers Lily and Jamie looked after us very well. All in all a great experience.

Jamie estelle and the rest of the team were friendly, approachable and made you feel at ease. And the food was amazing! Sharing platter is a must and the steak is the best we've ever eaten! The blue cheese sauce was yum and the cabbage is a must! Will definitely be returning!

We had a lovely evening at the Cow and Sow in Clifton. Friendly and warm service from Marta and Evie who were great and the food was delicious and served in a warm and cosy atmosphere . Butternut squash wellington was a great veggie option and the pork belly was the best I have had in years. Miso and chilli hispi cabbage was a fantastic accompaniment (and seasonal greens) and the burnt Basque cheese cake was absolutely phenomenal. Will definitely return

Took my wife here for a birthday meal. Initially it was hard to get a dinner reservation but I persevered and some space became free. The restaurant is very open with good spacing between the tables so you aren't on top of each other. We had a window seat which was lovely, we could people watch as well as enjoy a private meal. The first thing I noticed was the feel of the place. Although the kitchen is on display, there is zero food smell which is often so over powering particularly in grill bars or somewhere a lot of frying goes on. We were greeted by very friendly and genuinely hospitable staff. The front of house was very entertaining and welcoming (didnt catch his name). The food was amazing. Sticky soy and sesame pork belly was crisp and meaty with just enough fat but nothing you felt was too much. Squid rings were huge with a very light batter. We had a Picanha steak to share, this was the first time we have had a shared steak and it didnt disappoint. A true medium rare steak with the middle slice being a bit more rare, but I ate that one. Nice crisp on the outside of the meat showed some good seasoning had been applied. The Broccoli and Leek Grattan was so delicious and creamy that it very nearly stole the show. We dont usually go for puddings but the bitter chocolate slice was just as described and perfectly balanced by the sweet vanilla ice cream. We were so pleased with our meal out, Evie and Estelle looking after us were so polite and friendly. What a lovely meal in a well crafted venue run by truly caring staff, who know how to help people enjoy their free time. I would definitely pay a return visit. Thank you so much.

I was disappointed with both the food and the cost. The meals were overpriced for the quality, and I've had better meals for a lower price. I won't be returning.

Amazing place. We ordered the roast on Sunday and it was all perfect. Delicious, good quantity of food and exceptional quality. Definitely go for "The Cure" if you cannot decide which meat to pick. Wonderful attentive safe also. Felt well looked after.

First time visitor here. From arrival to departure 1st class service. The staff were very knowledgeable about their menu. They were polite, nothing was too much trouble. They took our coats, seated us, talked us through their menu. When the food arrived, it looked like small portions, however, we slowed down and enjoyed it, can’t fault anything. It was delicious, including the starter (squid) and the desert (caramel salted tart). Wow…. We will be back.

Celebrated my 25th birthday here! Food was brilliant Highlights were battered squid starter, tomahawk steak, blooming onion, hispi cabbage, chips. The meat was delicious and well cooked for such a big joint. Sauces/Drinks were all great. Top end and expensive, but quite a memorable meal. (roasts looked good value) Atmosphere quite open, relaxed and chilled out (nice location on whiteladies road)

The food was delicious and the steak was cooked perfectly. Welcoming and helpful service, Rob helped us with a few questions and wine pairings. Great vibes, cosy, relaxing and all round enjoyable atmosphere to dine in.

Atmosphere was fantastic, good was great. It felt like it would be a phenomenal place for a murder to happen in a BBC1 drama (compliment). Estelle was very pleasant.
