Great Sunday roast would recommend

Great food, with good drinks and service was excellent. Couldn’t fault the place. It’s our second visit and it didn’t disappoint. Our waitress was Lily who was friendly, made recommendations and conversational. Will definitely be back and would highly recommend.

My wife and I visited on Sunday 25th for our anniversary. It's a lovely setting, modern with a classic twist. The porterhouse steak I had was superbly cooked as was my wife's vegetarian butternut Squash Wellington. Also. the orange wine was a welcome recommendation. All the staff were very attentive, especially Anna who was helpful, bright and smiley. I'd recommend Cow & Sow for any occasion, be it a celebration or a casual Sunday lunch. It would be nice if visitors would make the effort with their attire, even if just taking hats off when sat inside, but I'm old school so what do I know.

I booked a table for 28/05/2025 at 6:30pm for our anniversary. When we arrived they welcomed us however our anniversary has not been recognised. The service was great and waiter was excellent, but our squid was ver salty and too much lemon juice had been put. Our rib eye was a bit small and over cooked. Also it does not come with chips, it is disappointing that we need to pay extra £6 for a bowl of chips. There is also ventilation problem in the kitchen, the dining room was covered thick smoke which was not pleasant at all.

Used the first table service to book a table, Eric and Jamie could not do enough for us, welcoming and helpful for newcomers and gave us a truly great dining experience.

excellent lunch menu stopping on the way to Swa sea. 130 pounds for an excellent meaty lunch starters, mains and dessert and a very decent large Glas of Australian Shiraz all very enjoyable, forgetting the bad weather outside. Pork tomahawk, flat iron steaks, caramel tart and ribs as starters among othera. well done Estelle and Marius!

Everything about this place is perfect , the warm welcome you receive upon entry , the ambiance of the restaurant and its seating , the greeting staff , the waiting staff , the food , the drinks. I honestly couldn’t fault a single thing. Will most definitely be returning and will recommend this place to anyone , went here for my son’s 21st birthday and it will be well remembered!

Siempre estoy nervioso si las casas de carnes como parecen cargar su plato con carbohidratos a la USA. Sin embargo aquí el filete es la atracción principal y yo podría tener el mío con unas deliciosas verduras marchitas en mantequilla de almendras......perfecto Podía disfrutar del filete y no salir sintiéndome tan hinchada que no podía caminar. Claro que puedes tener las papas fritas y los lados si quieres pero me encanta el filete. Los cócteles son geniales también. Paloma, salvia y pomelo de Georgi, es el limpiador de platos cítricos perfecto con la rica carne de res. Yo recomendaría de todo corazón

We walked in off the street to grab a light bite. We were immediately made to feel welcome and chose a bottle of house white and the sharer plate. Wine and food all delicious - the steaks looked amazing so we will be back!

Great food, very friendly service

In true Bristol fashion this place is simply "gert lush". Everything about it was wonderful. The food was super tasty, prepared with care and beautifully presented. The portion sizes were perfect and the service was excellent. We tried a wide range of the dishes and all were delicious. The location is superb with loads of free parking after 5pm along the side streets - what's not to love! Cow n Sow - I have a question...will you marry me ? X

Had a lovely welcoming first time experience at cow and sow Clifton. All of the staff from the minute we walked in were welcoming and talked us through the evening. The food came out hot and promptly and we enjoyed every bit of it. Our waitresses Lily and Meg made sure we were cared for throughout our time.

Lily was out server that night. She was absolutely lovely, courteous and polite when seating us. Lily informed us after we were seated about the wait times and the reason for this. She gave great advice about the appetiser to person ratio. We didn't have to wait around for her to come back for our orders. She checked in about the food and cleared the empty plates without being asked to. She informed us any complaints and compliments about the food would be past on to the chef. By far the best server we have had visiting steak houses. The food was amazing as well. The fried squid was the best appetiser ordered. The ribs and pork belly were good too. We ordered 2 flower onions, one came golden brown and the other a little burnt but still edible. The drinks were really good. The kids menu had good choices and great portions. Filled my 7 Yr old and cleaned the plate, which doesn't happen often. I would definitely recommend and we will definitely visit the Clifton branch again. Lily recommended the roast dinner.

Food was amazing, service could of been a little better as we felt we were left to wait as bigger/older tables were being served a lot more than us and noticed different attitudes towards them to us (we are a younger couple) music was way too loud we literally couldn’t hear eachother speak.

I hoped for more tbh. Based on the reviews, we went here expecting to eat really good steak, and I've had better. It's a lovely restaurant and I can't fault the service. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. But I was just hoping to eat a steak worth the money you spend, and I left feeling a little disappointed. The starter was good, particularly the chorizo and burnt ends, but make sure you push them into the hidden sauce. I wouldn't go back, but at the same time, perhaps if I chose something else, I would have felt differently. The atmosphere is good and it was busy the entire time we were there.

Me and my friend managed to get a table here lastnight last minute… And my god wasn’t it worth the visit! Becs our waitress was absolutely amazing helped us with everything and made are visit much more enjoyable.. The ribeye was amazing!

Having eaten at many of the steak restaurants in the local area this really is second to none. Situated in the heart of whiteladies road in Bristol , away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre gives this astonishing restaurant the idealic location for its customers. The menu is unique and presents a good variety of mouth watering choices. We had the sharing starter, pork belly and some steak sharers with some sides. We also sampled the cow and sow Merlot - one of the best smooth fruity wines I have had. Please try this !! We were not disappointed with portion size, dishes were very well presented and just outstanding. Meat that melts in your mouth, literally. The staff here are amazing, a very warm welcome from the restaurant manager, gentleman behind the bar and of course our waitress Lilly. There was nothing Lilly didn’t know about the menu, and was able to give an experienced nudge in the right direction when I was a little stuck on what to choose from. She even took the time to explain the cuts of meat, give an idea of expected taste and how to have it cooked. I have never quite experienced this in any other restaurant of this type. For me this shows that the staff are really invested in what the restaurant is all about, quality. The restaurant and staff ooze attention to detail and this is evident in all cogs of this restaurants workings. Thanks team. Jason and Becky.

The Sunday lunch was absolutely delicious enjoyed by all 4 of us. My only disappointment is I can only give 5 out 5 for the waitress. She was just so friendly and excellent at her job. The best I have come across. Thank you

Chateaubriand - amazing. Service from Jamie & Estelle - spot on. Burger was good quality but there are better about, it needs a thicker patty. Salted caramel desert - delectable. Overall very happy 👍🏽

Best Sunday roast I have had for a long time!

Came here for an anniversary meal and it was absolutely delicious. Food was well presented, and staff were friendly. Even gave us some free bubbles to celebrate!

Excellent way to treat my Mum and stepdad on Mothers Day as they love going to places they haven’t tried before. Food was amazing lots of it and very tasty, welcome fizz also went down a treat as did the wine !!! . No room for desert as we were all so stuffed from the starters and roast. Service is always spot on from the team from start to finish. Such a lush place to go night or day. Thank you very much and you have 2 new customers as my parents will be back x

Dropped by for a walk-in as had seen good reviews. Nice ambience, food wasn't great: Grilled lettuce oversalted, sirloin was tough at medium rare. Not an issue with cooking, just might not have been the best source nit of meat. Service on the whole friendly,although when I gave an honest response at the end to 'how was everything?' it got implied I should have ordered the sirloin medium. If its good it should absolutely work at medium rare.

Our first time visiting and wow what an experience!! The food was incredible, we highly recommend the sharing platter as a starter! We have been to lots of places and the way the sauces complimented the food was delicious! The only small downside was my fillet did have fat running through it which I personally don’t like but everything else was spot on perfect! The desserts are to die for & the cocktails are delicious. Thank you to our lovely server Bec’s she was so friendly & chatty, a real asset to your company. We look forward to coming back!

We had a great time at the Cow & Sow after winning a competition for a free meal. The food was delicious but the service was even better. Jamie and Estelle looked after us and were so attentive and kind - particularly with our two year old - and it made the experience even more special. The hispi cabbage side and bone marrow starter were really standout. Would highly recommend.

Great restaurant - service, food, atmosphere and wine all first class

I dined at the Clifton restaurant on 21st March for lunch. It was my birthday treat to myself. Busy but not noisy. Greeted and escorted to my table. Staff very attentive, helping with my choices. Menu is not too fussy which is great,l. My Ribeye steak was perfectly cooked and the dauphinois potatoes yummy. The apple tart tatin was delicious. Will definitely return for a 3rd visit. Well done to the chefs as well.

Give it a go for dinner .. had the pork tomahawk .. very fatty .. hassleback pots and slaw .. mac and cheese Didn’t enjoy the slaw / hassleback potatoes were ok / mac and cheese pretty tasteless and quite dry .. Overall not the best / staff were fine . Also had to wait a good 40 mins for food !! Probs be our last visit to cow and sow ..

Becs and Marta were fantastic, they were really knowledgeable on the steaks, best steak I’ve had to date! Would recommend again and again, especially if you go for the porterhouse.

My fiancé and I wanted to try new restaurant for date night and was recommended the cow and sow. By far the best steak we’ve ever had! I went for the flat iron steak and my fiancé went for the ribeye. Beautifully cooked and full of flavour. Services was amazing! I believe we were served by a Lily and Marta, both fanastic and even told us about their Sunday roasts! We will defiantly be back again soon with friends and family

Booked as a surprise birthday meal for my husband, 7 of us in total. Excellent service from booking, Comms leading up to the meal through to the actual meal itself. Food was excellent Marta & Lulu were out servers who were both brilliant. Been here a few times and always excellent 🙂

Average for nearly £600 dinner …….For a steak place and the value of the food I can tell ,they can do better. Tomahawk instead Medium rare came rare/blue . Cocktails were average, water we had to ask 2-3 time’s . Bone Marrow was very smelly and really strong taste compared to other places. Poached pear was more likely NO POACHED , was really hard to cut and tasteless. If I have to be honest service was good ,staff were polite and the girl had the knowledge about the menu.,but no thank you again.

Lilly was amazing! She’s so friendly and actually has a chat with you! !! Which in this day and age is just unheard of we need more Lilly’s in our life. The food was insane the drinks were even better! Make sure you get the onion blossom

It's been on my list of places to go to since we moved to Bristol a few years ago, but we never came round to it, until this February. We visitied on a Sunday for a family celebration, and liked it so much that we wentagain within a week and a half when we did not have dinner ready and needed a mid week pick me up. The food is delicious, the Sunday roast portions which the rest of the family opted for were very good with plenty of sides, and the fillet steak I had was fantastic. On our second visit we had the steak to share, and again we loved it. The staff is very nice and attentive, the menu is vast but not overwhelming and everything is prepared with a great care. The pork belly bites starter works so well with the grilled pineapple one - it's absolutely worth ordering two of these together. The hispi cabbage is a gem, I would return just for that. The steak was cooked perfectly on both occasions. I think our server on our second visit was Evie? who was very helpful, and moved us to a quiter section of the restaurant when requested with no problems. The music can be a bit too loud at times,but it's the only minor issue I could find.

Second time dining here and went for the lunch deal, would recommend the sticky pork starter and corn ribs! Steak was a bit tough and chips were on the dry side. Lovely friendly and attentive service! Can’t complain as the lunch deal is great value!

Excellent food, but wine by the glass selection was below par. Unfortunately, service wasn't great, we sat with empty glasses for at least 20 minutes before we managed to attract a waiter's attention.

Food was incredible steak literally melted in my mouth and the hasselback potatoes with garlic and paprika were cooked to perfection - crispy on outside and soft on the inside. It was well priced for the quality and my partner said the cocktails were lush. £110 for 2 people including cocktails, great quality steak, 2 sides and a shared starter. Our server Jess was extremely personable and professional. Thank you for making our visit special on my birthday and we look forward to returning.

We went for my boyfriend birthday and everything was perfect. He really likes steaks and the server really knows what they are talking about when we asked for recommendations. Great service from Lily and Marta, they kept checking on us and we felt very well attended.

Came here for my dad's birthday, they brought over a surprise glass of prosecco but he doesn't drink so they just took his mocktail off our bill. Really lovely staff and the steak was gorgeous! The bone marrow butter is a must

Had a Sunday lunch yesterday, have to say up there with one of the best , we are part of a Sunday Roast club and go everywhere so know our roasts! Melt in the mouth beef , great starters and really good service , well done to chefs and service was really really good especially thanks to little blond waitress, dont know her name but was so friendly and attentive but not overly, took attention to one of our guest who was not very well superbly definitely recommended

We had dinner here on Saturday night, and overall, the experience was just okay. Our booking was for 7:15, but our food didn’t arrive until 8:45. While we were informed that the sharing steak would take 45 minutes, waiting an hour and a half with no updates from the staff felt excessive. We ordered the 600g Chateaubriand, which, despite being tender, was dry, flavourless, and overcooked. The fillet steak was requested medium well but arrived medium rare—almost rare. The side dishes were decent but nothing memorable. For dessert, we ordered the Apple Tarte Tatin, which unfortunately was the biggest letdown of the night. Instead of the delicate, caramelised dish we expected, we received half an apple on pastry with an overly bitter sauce. It was so tough that we had to request a knife and fork to cut through it. Overall, it was an okay experience, but ultimately a bit disappointing.

My friends and I had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant. The food was exceptional, and the staff made us feel right at home with their warmth and friendliness. The Sunday roast dishes were perfectly cooked and outstanding also bursting with flavour. We had a range of starters and the selection was delicious. The BBQ pork ribs, were irresistibly tender and rich in flavor. We arrived 15 minutes early and the staff were very flexible with my booking. Overall, this is an outstanding place to eat. Thank you to all the staff for their excellent service.

O my what a wonderful early evening meal. I had the most delightful male waiter with brown wavy hair. He so polite and made sure I was comfortable as I waited for my son to arrive. The food was quick and perfectly cooked. The half price wine offer on a Monday is a must, I had 2 nojottos’s as I am choosing not to drink, they were perfectly blended and so flavoursome. My son and I were extremely impressed, we definitely recommend.

We had a wonderful dinner here, with an incredible porterhouse to share between us, hispi cabbage, mac + cheese and a lovely bottle of red. Which just so happened to be half price on Mondays! Estelle and Marta were excellent and we would absolutely visit again.
