On entering, I asked the waitress if they could give us tea and cream scones. She replied yes enthusiastically, so I asked for tea and scones for two and we found a table. We waited a full 20 minutes and were just about to leave and go elsewhere when the waitress brought a tray with two teacups and saucers and a pot of tea. No milk or sugar. One of the teacups had not been washed and was dirty with the residue of the previous users tea. I pointed this out to the waitress and she replaced it with a clean cup - no apologies were offered. Ten minutes later she returned with a tray containing a plate with two brown savoury cakes. I objected that they were not what we had ordered, which was cream scones. She walked away with no explanation and that was the last we saw of her. We left the tea and savoury cakes untouched and went across the road to the hotel, where we were served real cream scones, jam and tea.

What a lovely cafe. There's even a woodburner for those chillier days. The coffee was HOT and stayed hot for an appreciable time -- very rare in most cafes in my experience. And my pain au raisin was also hot. It was very satisfying. Would highly recommend this delightful cafe if you cherish an independent experience, with good, homemade food, rather than some soulless chain experience.

Absolute gem of a place. We popped in for a late lunch. The staff were friendly, the choices of food was good and reasonably priced. I had a jacket potato and my daughter had sandwiches and we both really enjoyed our meals. They tasted great and were beautifully presented. Great choice of drinks too. If ever we're in the area again we'd definitely pop back.

My family and I stopped at this quaint cafe and sat in the pretty courtyard on a sunny Sunday lunch. The service was remarkably quick and the staff where helpful and friendly. The food itself was amazing and we had a lovely time. We had the quiche, a freshly made sandwich, ploughmens, and an eggs Benedict. All the food was delicious and the whole experience was wonderful. Thank you again to the staff who made the visit so much more enjoyable and welcoming.

Visited here in August after a circular walk around Alresford. Our stay was brief as the staff were so disengaged we decided to drink up and go elsewhere for lunch. It was like our presence was an inconvenience as we were disrupting their conversation. There are a number of lovely cafes in Alresford so I’d be unlikely to visit again after a fairly poor first experience.

I went here to enjoy a light lunch and tea with a couple of friends last Sunday. The staff were friendly and very attentive even under the circumstances that we are all facing currently. Always smiling and very eager to help out with and quires and questions we had. I decided to just have a scone with jam and clotted cream this was lovely. I have read some of the previous reviews from the same day that we visited this quaint little cafe and I have to say that I am disgusted with the accusations that people are making especially when all the staff were wonderful not one moment did I even think that they didn't want to be there, always checking if we were okay for drinks. I really do not understand how some people can be so arrogant to think that they can try and tear down a business like that. I would highly recommend visiting this little cafe if you're in the area you will not be disappointed in the slightest.

This is a beautiful and quaint tea room which is very reasonably priced. I came here with my Mother on the 22nd August 2020 and had the Savoury Tea and I must say, the scones were absolutely beautiful. They were brilliant and changed my tea to a coffee and were very accommodating. The two ladies which were working that day were an absolute joy and were very polite. I needed to ask a recommendation of which cake to have as I know they have the best knowledge when it comes to cake. The ginger and pineapple one was absolutely amazing.Thank you for a lovely visit, quick setup of the inside table when the wasps came to attack, attentive service and a permanent smile. I will definitely be coming back here again on my travels. Do not worry about the family posting multiple bad reviews below, these need to be reported to TripAdvisor. There is no way that any of that would equate to your establishment. Best of luck for the future and hopefully you don’t get anymore of those people, because if I did, I wouldn’t serve them! Brilliant food, great standard, makes us want to come back!

Came in last Sunday with family for some scones and coffees. Scones were tasty but everything else was unfortunately very poor. The brunette waitress had an attitude on her from the moment we walked in...chef kept interrupting my sister when she was ordering and being rude whilst sitting on his phone.Blonde waitress was super lovely and should probably work somewhere else where she can be better treated. The brunette waitress got an order wrong and all she needed to do was get some cream and jam for the scones but made a fuss about it and tried to blame the error on my family member who placed the order (customer’s alright right, right?)Whether you’re right or not, just get on with it and be polite because that’s your job.The blonde lady apologised for the error bless her and everything was fine until...We then heard the brunette waitress talking about us behind our back to the rest of her colleagues (other waitress and chef) ?! Moaning about the error and how we’re stupid and got the order wrong.Very embarrassing and ridiculously unprofessional.I’m mainly writing this review in support of Anthony’s review (17/08) as I was out with him and our family and can fully support the issues we both experienced.Don’t go there if you want a nice experience.

I'm surprised this tea room is so well rated......After going into this coffee shop to get a warm drink with some family, it seemed like a nice place to go, however I was very wrong. The lady behind the counter was incredibly rude, we ordered a simple scone and a coffee which she got wrong twice. The other lady who fixed the problem was polite but this does not make up for the other members of staff. They were constantly making rude remarks and complaining about our table about how we were to blame for her mistakes, it was done in clear sight of us sitting down in the shop and was loud enough for all of the us and other customers to hear. I have been making coffees for years and all the drinks looked to be thrown together and not made with any care or attention at all.We felt very unwelcome and could not enjoy our time here and would not recommend to anyone visiting the area. There are plenty of nice, friendly coffee shops in the area, do not waste your money here.

My daughter and I went to the Courtyard today and ordered two sandwiches for lunch. There was no sanitising hand gel that I could see but luckily we had our own. The waitress brought our sandwiches on a grubby looking tray. She then proceeded to wipe down two tables that had been vacated with the same cloth and no sanitiser. If any of the previous customers had been unwell, she had managed to spread it to other customers following them with a dirty cloth. Incidentally, the sandwiches were made with stale bread. At this point we left, having both lost our appetite! Perhaps more training is needed to ensure staff and customers are kept safe.

The place is not how the pictures show. The place looks in poor state, damp with lots of condensation. The food we ordered was lasagna and soup. We sat down at a table, there was dry food still on the plastic tablecloth. I then watched the slices of baguette being removed from the freezer and microwaved. The soup and the lasagna was also microwaved. All you could hear was the ding of the microwave after each food order. The staff are very pleasant but cafe looks tired and sorry for itself. Yes it is cheaper than most in Alresford but the food is more convenience food than freshly made.

We visited the Courtyard at 3:00 on Saturday afternoon. Almost everything on the short menu was sold out. Perhaps that's excusable on the busiest day of the week but the rudeness with which we were told (by the senior member of staff) was definitely not. When the last remaining scotch egg arrived it was barely edible and the last remaining sausage roll was burnt, though in fairness, my wife enjoyed her savoury tea. The floor of the café was filthy. All in all, a most unwelcoming place and unedifying experience.

In the end, my husband went up to the counter to find three members of staff talking and he saw our drinks sitting on the side, clearly getting cold. Upon asking, one member of staff explained that they were having trouble with another customer somewhere, but to be honest, we only saw one pair of ladies, and it wasn’t them. There’s more. The duck race / war on the line / broad st gardens / 10K race all were away from the town and had their own venues for refreshment !! As a resident of Alresford this is always a pleasant place to go for coffee - far from the madding crowd!! The very young waitress was polite and friendly. We joined other customers in the garden. We and they then waited, waited and waited. Several other customers went in. Some emerged clutching some or all of their orders. I went in pursuit of mine and managed to get the tea and the coffee by dint of explaining I had to get to work and then hanging around until they were produced.A second woman in the kitchen seemed frozen to the spot and was doing very little.More time elapsed. I went back to the counter. I asked if it was best to cancel. I was told by the person in the kitchen that I should persevere but that she was "new" and working in "cramped conditions".Finally after a 50 minute wait the wrong order appeared for one person. I recognised it as part of the order made by the person behind me in the initial queue.I asked for and received a refund after discussion between the two members of staff about how to issue one.I was still charged for my tea and coffee. The blame for this shambles lies squarely with the management. Their forward planning and staff training are clearly wholly inadequate. It was a woeful experience, not least for the bewildered staff who did not even seem to have an emergency procedure for a situation in which they had completely lost control.

Came here for lunch while on holiday and visiting the town, we saw sign advertising award winning cakes etc. We had panninis which were very good and came with watercress salad and crisps and good choice of quality drinks. Mostly young waitresses but no clear instructions where to order, we sat outside and had to go inside to order, cutlery was running out too but service was quick, efficient and pleasant. Small interior and exterior.

This tea room now has a new name - The Watercress Tea Rooms and yes, it IS tucked away at the end of a long, rather clinical, sterile passage that opens up into a small sunny courtyard (if the sun shines). The tea rooms buzz in Alresford and with good reason too, it is a charming, interesting town with much to offer, and many tearooms from which to choose. I wanted somewhere quieter. No guessing what the soup of the day is - watercress soup which I did not sample, but I did have a watercress and cheese scone - a perfect creation - light, balance of cheese versus watercress simply spot on - a real scone of a scone! Why am I rabbitting on about a mere scone - because today's scones in many instances, have become 'cake like' spongy affairs baked with eggs, sugar and milk - you either love or hate! Scone experts will beg to disagree on 'essential' ingredients!! Coffee was good old Americano - asked for more hot milk, more came with a smile. I get the feeling that the revamp is not finished? The decor felt slightly underwhelming - a few more personal touches would turn this little hidey - hole into a very special place. Cakes baked off the premises looked delicious - breakfasts are available, lunch from 11 to 3pm offering baguettes, jacket potatoes, ploughmans with the tea room winding down about 4.30 pm.

Very small and hard to find as it cannot been seen from the street, however the Carrot cake was delicious very moist, hot chocolate was ok but not like we had in Malta 3 weeks earlier

After being a loyal customer of these tearooms for over a year I shall no longer be so! Whilst having coffee and cakes my 2 year old grandson was eating a very small teddy cake he had brought in with him. One of the waitresses reminded us that customers are not to consume their own food on the premises. We thought this extremely petty and said so. The other assistant there who seems to have an attitude problem towards customers started arguing loudly and told us to leave! We of course did leave and shall never go back there again.

Went inside with my boyfriend and his mother. Prices are higher then other places I've been to but they weren't massively bad. Cramped space I feel, and we were the only ones in there! Felt it was also quite awkward at places as there was no background noises such as quiet music etc. Latte was nice but my boyfriend said his hot chocolate was quite tasteless. Had a fruit scone which was nice.

Decided to try these tearooms, as had been impressed on a previous visit- that time we had watercress scones- delicious! This time, I opted for a bacon, brie and cranberry sandwich...a mistake! Although the bread was nice, the filling rather let it down. The bacon was cold- and the fat seemed to have congealed- like the bacon had been cooked some time ago...a most unpleasant texture! The side salad consisted of a few slices of cucumber and tomato..uninspired for the price paid. Not much choice of cold drinks- juice in carton etc...so we went up to the deli/ cafe up the road for smoothies.

Nice refreshing cup of tea & good carrot Cake. We arrived just before they were due to close and there was no pressure on drinking up.

A lovely warm day so where better to eat than outside in this suntrap of a courtyard? We chose the watercress soup (what else in Alresford?) accompanied by a large watercress scone and butter – delicious. Service was fast and staff pleasant. Will return again.

This tearoom is tucked away down an alley off Broad St, worth visiting as the food is really good (all day breakfast brilliant), drinks perfect and service very pleasant. Also worth looking at the old photos on the wall of the alley as you go to the tearooms interesting insight into a lovely place.

Alresford has been used occasionally as a stopping location for our trip from Bath to Midhurst and there appear to be a number of cafe options for a light lunch in this appealing town.We briefly walked into 'Caracoli' but for some obscure reason settled for 'The Courtyard Tea Rooms', the access looking appealing as was the courtyard garden. A little chilly for alfresco dining we opted to eat inside. It was busy, usually a good sign, and we initially opted for a table near the main entrance. We soon realised that we were too tightly squeezed into the space. An enquiry about the 'more seating upstairs' resulted in a waitress hurriedly starting to clear provisions from off the stair treads themselves so we said 'not to worry' we will stay where we are.We eventually moved to the inner part of the cafe and were relatively comfortable there. The menu looked OK and as we were eating late morning we went for something a bit brunchy. Mine a breakfast 'stack' at £7.50 sounded like a modern take on a 'full English' but turned out to be a few ingredients piled onto a piece of bread, white as they'd run out of granary. I felt cheated. My wife's breakfast sandwich was quite tasty and the ingredients of reasonable quality but again seemed on the expensive side for what it wasThere are some people who will enjoy this touristy take on the Ercol furnished 'pretty' cafe but as every minute passed I reflected on the poor decision not to stay at Caracoli where the food choices were much more exciting and the environment more appealing. Maybe next time then.

We visited for the first time last month and had a great experience. Staff were really friendly, scones are highly recommended and the brownies are to die for.

No condiments or sugar on the courtyard table. Soup cold and had to be sent back, brought bread when we wanted scones (which were excellent when they arrived). Friendly but overworked staff. A great disappointment as this could be a lively place to eat

We booked afternoon tea for 12 people as a special occasion but when we came to order they only had enough bread for 1 person. Apart from cakes most of their menu requires bread and so the day was ruined as it was too short notice to get in anywhere else. For the one person who did get afternoon tea the tea did not arrive until well after they had finished their sandwich, scone and brownie. The rest of us also got cups but no tea until we complained 15 mins later. We paid for brownies that they didn't have, they eventually brought us a toasted tea cake instead. All in all a terrible experience especially as we had all travelled some distance to meet up there. It took half an hour just to deliver a gingerbread man upstairs to my little girl. One of the girls did say to the other should she go to Tesco's across the road to get more bread but the other one said no. Cannot believe a tearoom would take a booking for 12 not allowing for enough supplies. Not to be trusted!

Have been wanting to visit for a while since the new owners took over after many recommendations from friends. Finally got to visit and was not disappointed. Took my parents for lunch. The food was amazing, service impeccable and the renovations of the building are fantastic. Looking forward to revisiting soon.

I just can’t see how their prices are sustainable. Charging over £4 for a flat white with oat milk is outrageous, so I won’t be returning.
