I've had a meal here in the past & wasn't impressed. Felt over priced & not great quality or taste. However the cakes weren't bad and a selection of local beers & cider.

Table booked for pre-show drinks and a meal. Food service was very poor. The food took far too long to arrive (unless you wanted quiche and salad). A friend and I ordered one of the ‘specials’ which was a goats cheese pizza with Cajun fries and slaw. When the food eventually arrived the pizza was very over cooked and brittle and the fries had a massive amount of Cajun spice doused on them after they had been cooked, resulting in a really unpleasant flavour of salt and raw spice. We picked our way around the more edible bits and left most of it. It was pointless complaining on the night because they were obviously in way over their heads and there would have been no time for them to produce another meal before the show started. They must have known how busy they would be by the number of tables reserved and they really need to get someone who knows how to produce simple meals in their kitchen. This will be the last time we eat here before a show, which is a great shame.

Absolutely terrible service. All young probably underpaid staff who didn’t want to be there ! Absolutely no training in customer service. There was a couple of acceptions who were very pleasant but only one who gave any eye contact. The food was very average and underwhelming. Jacket potato’s were cold and one came ages after the rest of our orders despite ordering together and it was only a jacket potato so didn’t need cooking from scratch. The staff member showed no sign of being bothered at all . We heard others complaining also . Used to be a regular here but will never come again which is a shame . It’s gone incredibly down hill . Needs more organisation and proper training . Working in the industry myself I would be appalled if any of my colleagues had this attitude towards customers and would never myself.

I should have guessed from my booking experience that this was not going to go well! I had seen the advert for the Courtyard’s bottomless festive small plates with its accompanying image of a veritable feast and emailed the Courtyard, as it advised. Having had no response I rang and left a voicemail. No one rang me back and eventually I rang again and managed to secure a booking. We were advised to attend at 7pm when food would be served. We duly arrived at 7, there was only one other table for two apart from ours, and a table laid out for 16. The table of 16 arrived late and therefore food was not brought out until 40 minutes after we had sat down. We were offered a complimentary mulled wine which neither of us wanted and were not offered a non alcoholic alternative (we were driving). The food was a very odd combination of dishes and of poor quality. The cheese fondue tasted more like a packet cheese sauce and I doubt many of the dishes were homemade. The roast potatoes, with a disgusting vegetarian gravy and topped with grated cheese were a culinary disaster. The ‘hot smoked salmon, celeriac remoulade, rocket’ was inedible and looked like it had been thrown on the plate! The only item we finished was the bowl of cashew nuts! Even the ambience of the eating area was all wrong, albeit the two young staff members were charming and did their best! It was a very disappointing evening. As we left the staff member offered us takeaway boxes so we could take any uneaten food home with us (of which there was a lot!) needless to say we declined! We will not be returning. The Courtyard is an impressive building in an ideal location for visitors to our city and it is a real shame that it does little to attract people to return in relation to the catering facilities. It was a total waste of £70.

Had lunch with friends recently after not visiting for a while. Disappointing to see the choice of light lunch e.g. no wraps etc and minimal choice if sandwich to order. I am a vegetarian and the choice was egg mayonnaise. I didn't see a vegan alternative in a light bite, although I appreciate salads were available ad there was a better choice in the hot food selection. Is this a 'winter' thing, or has the Courtyard reduced its menu long-term? the food was fine, just unimaginative through lack of any choice.

Modern in the bar and foyer, which is well lit and surrounded by huge windows. The bar is well stocked, although it can take a while to be served on busy evenings. It's such a shame that those run this important cafe don't invest in staff/training/infrastructure as the current position when they have sell out shows on is chaotic to say the least.Queuing for food when others are queuing for drinks is a mess. Use this for lunch a couple of times a month. The food is always fresh and of high quality. The wraps are imaginative and tasty, and the salad bar always has a range of varied options. Hey usually have some interesting specials on the board for those feeling extra hungry. The only thing that lets this place down is the hot drinks - for example, the coffee is below average quality and served in old fashioned low-rent cafe cups. This was my first visit to The Courtyard. I wanted to see a film that had completed the local circuit a short time ago. I was impressed by the ease of parking and the initial greeting at the desk. As there was a restaurant at the venue and it had such good reviews I decided to give it a try. My score does not reflect the arts centre staff who dealt very courteously with tickets, the entry and supervision of the theatre, etc. What really hit me was the complete lack of organisation in the restaurant. It took 20 minutes for the queue I was in to reduce from only 5 people and 3 orders. On arrival there was no guidance for a first timer - no signage, nothing! A long bar with a queue at one end and various people being served along its length. I asked and was told as I wanted salad, to queue at the salad bar end which I dutifully did. People joined the queue from both ends! Who could blame them in the absence of signage?Quiche and salad is what I wanted. Sounds easy? Forget it! How is this for ambiguous choice? I could have 3 salads, a choice of 3 salads or just salad. I only wanted two so instead of charging me for two the assistant asked if I wanted a third and when I said no, she said she would add a bit more of one of the others. I was charged for three!I kid you not, the leaf salad had 10 small green leaves and for just shy of £10 for a pie sized quiche, 10 leaves and a spoonful of a mayonnaise and fruit salad I think it extortionate! As for the pie sized quiche, a regular favourite of mine eaten in many places, it was very dry with the most atypical, all-pervading taste of eggs. This centre should work extremely well. Its location, its build quality, the intimate theatre - all are in its favour and but for some decent organisation of the catering, the popular historic town of Hereford would have another jewel in its crown.

There are several places that make incredible coffee, many make good, loads and loads make average and a few make it so that as Espresso or American it's almost undrinkable ~ The Courtyard joins this group I'm afraid.I'd love to love The Courtyard but if I can't drink the coffee what's the point of travelling across town when I can go to the excellent Cafe Miro. The Courtyard should go to see David @ Miro to learn how to use and clean their coffee machine and learn everything else about making a good cup of coffee. This isn't my first coffee there ~ it was my last!!

We had rung well in advance and asked if it would be ok, especially since there were a number of us. First the staff. They are always helpful, even when they are rushed off their feet. We have some complicated dietary requirements and they will always help and not make us feel like freaks. And as a backup they have a comprehensive list of what is in each dish.Second the food. It is all freshly prepared and the portions are large enough for any normal appetite. We usually take home a "doggy" box. Our diet is basically vegan so we can't comment on the meat dishes, but the dishes we have had have all been very very good. We very rarely return to a food venue as we find we rarely find a place which cooks as good as we do at home. The Courtyard is a place we return to. The cakes are excellent quality. The latte actually tastes like a latte should as opposed to an espresso with lots of milk (or in any case soy)Third the price. Yes, at first glance it seems to cost more than Wetherspoons (for example), but for this you get 1. fresh food, 2 much larger portions 3 greater choice and this means the cafe is excellent value for money. You will not get better quality for less anywhere in the UK (we speak as non-carnivores). We can usually get a meal and coffee for two for under £15 (however if you order a main cooked course each you could be looking at £24 or so)

The food is delicious and reasonably priced. The pick and mix salads are fab - look colourful, are tasty and nutritious. The portion sizes are generous and hooray, a variety of gluten free dishes. Occasionally there is live music to add to the ambience. As it is part of the theatre it does get very busy in the evening, pre show, so make a booking or just enjoy the buzz with a glass of wine. Would I go again? Only if I really had no other choice or time to go anywhere else.6. Anything could be changed? More food, more choice, bigger portions, more thought in the side salad.

Wanting food before we went to the theatre we thought to book a table there too. We had reserved a table, which was ready on our arrival. What a good choice. Food and service were excellent, and having studied the menu there were lots of things to go back for. The Greek platter which I chose, could have been prepared in Greece itself it was so tasty. A real must try.

Only ended up here due to the dire weather! Parked to go across to the new development and actually thought it was closed as rather dark and quite. Only had a light bite and a hot chocolate but both were glorious. Well done on your staff training, Laura is an excellent, caring member of your team.

I like to hide away at this cafe, it's rarely busy unless there is a show on. I love the second floor seating. I good place to chill and study. The coffee is nothing to shout home about. The food is great but pricey. The lighting is fantastic, really gives you a lift.

We stopped here on a long trip home after being caught in traffic through Hereford. We didn't have high expectations, and were more interested in getting out the car for a bit and a drink. We ordered from the main menu and were more than pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. The cleanliness of the venue also deserves a mention, as did our server Laura, who seemed to go above and beyond in making sure we had everything we needed as well as suggesting a quicker way to our destination. We will definitely be stopping here again in future

I love a sald bar, this is the only one I have found that rivals the legendary Rainbow cafe in Glastonbury. The food was excellently presented, no lack of choice as a veggie, Great and imaginative flavours and our hoast William was a model of attentiveness with graet kknpwledge of the ingredients. Thank you.

I'm a jazz musician who was playing nearby and we were worried that we might have difficulty finding somewhere to eat on a Sunday evening. We were staying at the Travelodge and the receptionist recommended The Courtyard. The place, staff, food, and beer were all good. And we timed it right - the cinema customers had all 'gone in'.

Having been to see a show here recently we decided to give the Courtyard Café Bar a try as the Salad Bar looked so inviting.Went at lunchtime. It was reasonably full but only had a short wait to order. The salads looked expensive at about £10 a head but the price was fully justified. There is a good selection of quiches and a huge choice of accompanying salads. The servings were too large for either of us to completely finish the meal.I'm not a great salad lover(prefer meat and two veg)but would certainly go again.

We had a meal before a show. We were greeted by a charming member of staff and shown to a prebooked table. We chose from the menu rather then the salad bar. My wife has a sight problem but they immediately turned the lighting up on request. We were very impressed with the food. The fish pie was very good also the meat balls . I had Gnocci with spinach, excellent ,my wife had a Greek, platter both were first class , though the platter was a bit large and a surfeit of pitta bread. The staff were pleasant and efficient. One criticism ,the wine is a bit overpriced for the quality served , I realise they have to make profit but if you are charging a high price a better wine would be welcome. It is certainly a very good place to eat in Hereford and it now has to compete with about 12 restaurants in the new development over the road but certainly deserves to be patronised . TRY IT.

We went to the theatre at the Courtyard last night and decided to have a meal before the show. Booking was easy as I corresponded with staff via email and all were helpful. This was my first time there and was immediately struck by the dull roar of a lot of people enjoying themselves in the bar/restaurant area (it was of course the evening crowd).Upon entering the restaurant my first question was who do we see or where do we go to arrange for food. My unspoken question was only answered after waiting for nearly 10 minutes next to the salad bar where others were being served. We were lucky to enter next to the salad bar as we would have been wondering around trying to find out how to order. We were served by a young woman who was clearly rushed off her feet but who still managed to be pleasant and efficient. I selected a beefburger but was told that they had run out - at peak time! The press of people next to us created a feeling of being hurried and whilst I was offered a menu, I chose the easy option of the salad bar, the same as my wife, rather than delay the whole process further. With our wait to be served, the time taken to fulfill our order and more customers piling in behind us, long waiting times are unacceptable (unless you are stoically British), especially when time is tight. The food was perfectly acceptable but nothing special, after all, what can you do with potato, three bean and cauliflower salad with a small piece of quiche? I was somewhat surprised at the price of £9.45 for such simple fare.I was impressed that all of the bar staff were clearly rushed off their feet but seemed to be coping remarkably well.During the interval I bought a small glass of red wine and was stunned when I was charged £4.10p, especially so when you can buy a perfectly quaffable bottle of red from Asa for £4. I know there are overheads and a profit has to be made, but in common with most bars/eateries that sell wine there is a massive mark-up. Suggested lessons to be taken on-board are to:1. Clearly delineate the food service area from the rest of the bar, with clear signage for those intending to order food and eat.2. Have one individual clearly in charge of food ordering and to ensure there are sufficient additional members of staff available for peak times.3. A maitre'd or a delegated person to oversee the whole of the floor operations, to head off problems, guide punters and generally make life a little easier for the hard working staff.Going to the theatre is a special occasion, things are tough and spending money on theatre is difficult enough at the best of times, a perception of being over-charged and relatively poor value for money does not help - hence the 3 rating.

Wasn't expecting much by way of menu, thought it would be a bog standard sandwich and chips sort of vibe. But no, the food was homemade, really delicious. Great atmosphere too at the Courtyard, great setting in a bright and roomy cafe, and we were served by a delightful young gentleman named Matthew. Well done to the Courtyard, seems they are doing the right thing.

Great coffee, delicious cakes - but go for lunch and try the risotto of the day. Generous portions and they make an effort with the side salads. Really nice chips too! Highly recommended.

We recently attended a show at the Courtyard Theatre, and had intended to eat at the nearby shopping complex, however on arrival we found that we had less time than we would have hoped. With some trepidation we decided that we would try the inhouse cafe and bar - previous experiences elsewhere had been less than successful! Having found a table in a lovely sunny corner we were thrilled to discover that the menu went far beyond the usual micowaved offerings. Having both chosen the salad bar we were served by Laura, who helpfully recommended which salads would be appropriate for my special diet, before bringing the meals to the table - all within minutes of ordering. Her service excelled when she persuaded me to indulge in a pudding, although I think my waist line may not thank me!

So few places in Hereford offer genuinely good food well cooked at realistic prices we find ourselves returning here more often for a meal rather than just a pre show snack. Have a word with Natalie who will tempt you. She has a winning way!

Have heard of De Koffie Pot for a few years but never stopped by until now, luckily we stopped there on a bright and sunny October day to enjoy some lunch and a pint! Excellent vibes, nice staff, great food and all reasonably priced. There are outdoor flame pits and a tented area so you can sit out on a bright cold day enjoying the location on the edge of the River Wye. Looking forward to my next visit!
