Only had a drink so can't say how good the food is, friendly service but seriously need to get rid of all the plastic flowers and put the hoover away please. Behind the bar a little messy and a few small DIY jobs could really improve the overall atmosphere.

I'm struggling reading all the recent positive reviews and wonder if we were in a different pub! Midday, completely empty. Very limited menu shown to us. Chose sandwiches which stated they were freshly made with fresh bread. It couldn't possibly have been today's bread and I was left mystified as to how anyone could ruin a cheese sandwich! The side salad (predominantly pea shoots which should be crunchy & fresh) was limp & wilted. The side order of chips were the final straw. Soggy, dark brown and tasted of oil that had had far too many outings. Interestingly, we were not asked if everything was OK but maybe that was because we left so much. An expensive experience best avoided.

It wasn’t a full menu as it was Bank Holiday but the Landlord who appeared to be running everything was extremely helpful and offered us Jacket Potatoes, Panini’s or a limited full menu. As we only wanted snacks I had a jacket with Beans and Salad and my husband had a Panini and Salad. It was nicely presented and all fresh. They also had a great choice of drinks including a Stout Ledbury Dark which my husband thoroughly enjoyed. If a snacks is your lunchtime request head to this well established Hereford Pub

Today is my friend Stu's (sight dog), Omar's 5th birthday! He's an amazing dog & so I decided to treat Stu to a Sunday Lunch @ the Grapes! At 12 on the dot we were greeted by a bubbly Emma who sat us @ our reserved table with lots of room for Omar. We ordered our drinks & they arrived very quickly. We both decided we wouldn't have the free soup starter( even though it looked & smelt lovely) because we didn't want to ruin our roast! With the roast you have a choice of two meats but Stu just fancied the turkey & I just fancied the beef! The food was piping hot, had all the trimmings & all the accompaniments, the cauliflower cheese was to die for! It was a wonderful meal & I will definitely bring friends here when they visit from London! Thanks to Ian, Pam, Adam & Emma for a fab meal & experience! We will be vac for meals & drinks!

Our host seemed to be running the pub on his own and did his best to look after us . Several items were not available from the menu , but he made some suggestions which helped both him & us. We ate steak pie with new potatoes & peas , followed by sticky toffee puddings . We were sat by the front window which looks onto the narrow street outside , so we had a constant stream of passers by to observe . Prices here are very good , the anbience of the front dining area was OK , and at the back of the Pub is a proper restaurant which was spacious , where some of our fellow walkers had their lunch . There was a large dog in the bar area where we were , but we thought it might have belonged to our host , so I would imagine dogs are welcome there ...

Stopped off here today for a full English breakfast and cup of coffee and was that impressed decided to write this short review as a recommendation. We only had a couple of small breakfasts and 2 x lattes but the quality of ingredients was excellent and the food cooked perfectly. All for just under £10 ! Decent tasty real mushrooms, fresh tomato, sausage, bacon, egg, beans, hash brown and toast. Nice location right in the heart of the City and very friendly staff. I believe this is pub is under new management and if the food and service continues to be as good I'm sure this will become very popular. We'll definitely go back for 2nd helpings.

We decided to have lunch somewhere different and noticed that this establishment was under new management, so popped in. Welcomed by friendly staff in this very old, historical building. We sat by the window people watching, as they either headed along the narrow street into the city centre, or towards the cathedral. Having scanned the menu, it was up to the bar to give our order and pay for it. We didn't have to wait too long before our meals were served at out table. Generous portions at a good price. Some points to pass on about my meal (which I did verbally at the time to members of the establishment, as I'm trying to help), was that the ham in my ham & cheese panini was too thick, so when I took a bite out of it, it followed on and I removed most of the ham, being left with a cheese panini. A bit of fatty strip of ham nearly made me "boke / boak" I'm afraid. The side plate of chips tasted as if they were micro-waved, but were not (I was politely told). Possibly look at changing the type of ham / chips used? The toilet was very clean and tidy, just lacked soap in the dispenser. The surroundings throughout this tavern were spacious, very clean and tidy, with a good ambience. A large Tv screen mounted on the wall (with the sound down) was a good attraction for me, observing Sky News. This, I'm sure, will be an excellent venue, especially with the open, attentive, friendly staff we encountered. Very good value for money compared to many nearby. Just a few points to try to rectify before shortly becoming very good / excellent in my (humble) opinion. Thank you The Grapes Tavern and all the very best for the future.

Lovely historic pub in the city centre of Hereford and near Hereford Cathedral. New owners who have made a few changes to the furniture and have a new menu. Excellent pub food at good prices. The small plates are enormous so be warned. Very friendly staff. Friendly locals. They do have sport on at times. Three seperate rooms to choose from and always clean and polished. Lovely old fireplace and a piano. I believe they have live music on certain nights. Oak panelling in main dining room spoilt a bit with modern tables and chairs. Previous owners had old antique tables and chairs. That is the only thing that is not in keeping with the room.

I had been to The Grapes before over a year ago while on business and when I arrived in Hereford this past week I literally threw bags in my hotel room and headed there for a pint. Was pleasantly surprised when the owner(landlady) Sonia Caldwell remembered me and made me feel at home. Was able to have a great meal of fish and chips and she added smashed turnips which were great. After an 8 hour plane trip and 3 hour drive it was a great place to relax and feel welcomed. Went back later in the week and Sonia's husband Gary Caldwell welcomed me back and invited me to bring my wife and daughter the next time I am in town.

Other members of the group were unhappy with the quality of their main courses as they were either undercooked or overcooked. When the deserts arrived the apple pie I received was on a flat china plate which meant that the custard went everywhere. The apple pie was stone cold and had obviously not been defrosted properly. Well I visited this pub because I'd heard on local radio that it had recently been refurbished to look like a 1920's pub from the tv series Peaky Blinders called "The Garrison", I was mightily disappointed after looking forward to my visit there, Apart from the 1920's flat screen tv showing sport of some kind the beer (A Peaky Blinders brew by Sadlers) Had turned to Vinegar and was more cloudy than a snow globe, In the Bar next door Football fans screamed at their tv every five minutes killing what little 1920's atmosphere there may have been lurking under a beer mat somewhere, My advice if you are a Peaky Blinders fan Avoid this place so the disappointment won't be as bad as the beer and decor was, I've given it a generous 2 stars as my beer was exchanged for a non cloudy beer.

Food finally turns up at 9:05 food wasn’t even what we ordered and was cold. The meat was chewy and dry we ordered chicken and lamb and one of them was all chicken apart from one piece of lamb. The chips were cold to the point it was like eating cardboard. Complete waste of time and money.
