The Countryman Pub and Dining in Ashfield

First time here and not disappointed. The staff were all very friendly. The menu is very extensive and lots of choice. Our food was delivered nice and hot. Couldn't fault it at all. Definitely will be back.

NEVER fails to disappoint. Although we’ve been coming here for the last 5years or so, today was the first time we’ve been for a breakfast that the Countryman only started providing a few months ago and needless to say the breakfasts are equally as delicious as the main menu. This is an EXCELLENT all round dining experience from the lovely clean pleasant venue, to the brilliant friendly staff and the food is on another level….can NOT fault it….delicious every time. The fact that its always full and booking is almost always required speaks for itself. Its by far the best place to eat for miles around and I wouldnt go anywhere else.

This was our first visit for our son’s birthday and definitely won’t be the last.The food was outstanding and very reasonably priced given the quality.The staff were lovely too.We cannot wait to return

Food tasted great and presentation was standard/ average. Service was a little unprofessional and clumsy, but food came out at reasonable speed. Felt a little rushed regarding choosing food (not enough time allowed to read menu). Decor, furniture and lighting dated and tatty with nothing matching. Broken tap in ladies toilets with no out-of-order sign. Toilets otherwise spotless and modern; felt like a big contrast to the dated and grubby-looking bar and dining area. (Not saying the dining area was dirty; I think it gives that initial impression due to the decor and lighting). Ladies toilets need to be better signposted. Atmosphere could be better, but have experienced worse. Parking good and prices fair. Ok to stop for a meal if passing by, but not so much so for a special occasion or if you wanted to make a good impression on a first date.

Excellent service, the staff were all very friendly and helpful, Tia our waitress was lovely and the food was absolutely amazing, can't wait to come back!

Having read the reviews we were looking forward to a good meal, unfortunately this was not the case. Firstly the service was incredibly slow. We waited 50 minutes between our starter and main course and when the starters were finally cleared we were asked if we’d finished with them- it took great self control not to say ‘what, after 50 minutes?!) The starter, prawn cocktail was tiny and the prawns, of which I had a total of 10, were of poor quality. The mains were very average and here again not very large. Serving on a huge square plate didn’t help matters. We also thought it was pricey for very average pub food. We won’t be visiting again.

We’ve got family over from Ireland and they asked us if we knew anywhere nice to eat, we picked The Countryman,,8 of us,all had different meals,which included,Steak,Salmon,Sea Bass,Pork,Chilli,Burger and a child’s chicken nuggets, The service and welcome were top notch,the atmosphere was relaxed and warming, The meals came out all together and were absolutely beautiful,great portion size,tasty,and presented beautiful,, Because we didn’t have a starter we all had room for a dessert,which was also fantastic, I can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough,never had a bad meal or experience in the many times we’ve visited 10/10

Really nice pub, excellent atmosphere with good ale and excellent food and loads of choice with an excellent gluten-free menu, not cheap but the quality is fantastic. The service is second to none, plenty of parking 👌

We decided to pop in for Sunday lunch.I think at £14.50 it's fairly pricey for the area.Very fast service very efficient waitress.We were disappointed with the beef very average and poor portion size. I would say no more than 3oz very thinly sliced and we were very under whelmed.

First visit here for us all, lovely warm atmosphere, staff very polite and meal was quickly brought out, all meals cooked to perfection and sweets exellant, very competetively priced and we all enjoyed the experience, will definately be returnng.

Been for breakfast 2 mornings this week ,great value beautiful food .one slight hiccup my daughters egg white wasn t cooked so no problem replacing it but got a sarky reply saying eggs should be runny !,yes they should but not clear and under cooked .Apart from that all in all a great place

I come here regularly with friends because we enjoy it so much. The food, staff and atmosphere are fantastic, we have never been disappointed with anything.

We've eaten here for years but feel the service is gradually slipping especially the speed of service and little details. Staff are always friendly. Food is always really nice. However, the last few visits the service has been super slow. For instance we were once waiting over 45 mins for 1 starter to be served, once had a 2 course meal take more than 2 hours and recently had a wait of 25 mins to pay the bill once asked and then we decided to go find someone to pay rather than wait at the table for any longer.

What an absolutely amazing dining experience. From the moment we stepped in through the door. We were greeted and seated and were looked after from that moment on. The tables were arranged in such a way that there was plenty of room around us so we as diners weren’t hemmed in at all and the serving staff could easily move around each table. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection with a good menu to chose from. The servers were attentive and helpful making this dining experience one well worth going back to. This was my very first visit to The Countryman and I have to say will not be my last.

Today was the first time we visited the Countryman the food , Atmosphere and the service was first-class and good value for money. We will definitely be calling again Sandra Jackson

I would class this place as a bistro rather than a pub and has a higher standard than most other places in the area but at a reasonable cost. See you next time!

We visited New Year's day and the staff seemed tired after the busy Christmas season. The food was good but not the best we've had at the Countryman.

I went with my wife for lunch. Prawn cocktail, salmon fillet and lemon cheesecake were excellent. Lovely establishment and wonderful staff.

Had a lovely Christmas dinner with my family, the food was okay the same as most pub food the desert was honestly the best part very delicious. The staff was very warm and friendly, would come again.

I was staying with friends for the weekend, in Nottingham. As a surprise they had booked a meal at the Countryman. We have eaten there before, and enjoyed it. We had their special Christmas menu. What a delightful evening we had. The food was lovely, the staff were very attentive, and we really enjoyed ourselves.

Went there for Christmas lunch today with friends and the food and service was excellent.

Four of us had the Christmas Fayre menu and the food and service were excellent. Lovely atmosphere too.

Went Wednesday 13th lunchtime with friends, we booked a table for 1 30 as they couldn't fit us in at 1pm, we were still waiting for starters at 2.10pm even though we pre ordered and one friend had to be home by 3.30pm! The head waiter wasn't helpful but the waitress was very helpful once we had the food so apart from over strong garlic mushrooms the food was lovely and good value!

The steak was cooked nice altho smaller than expected and I would have liked the usual mushrooms, tomotoe and onion rings rather than the served veg of carrots brussels and cabbage which doesnt really go with it but I had them because I was still hungry after eating the steak and chips on the plate

Used this pub/restaurant for the first time a few weeks ago when visiting the area. The food was first class, reasonably priced and the at. Sphere was excellent. Would definitely use again.

Fantastic food, great atmosphere. Only small quibble was after being presented with the bill no one came for a payment. Will definitely go again.

What a great restaurant Been 3 times in the past month! Started with a lovely breakfast one Saturday morning We enjoyed it so much we booked an evening meal a couple of weeks later The choice of good and quality of the meal was excellent We have returned again yesterday with friends to try the m lunchtime menu This was also excellent and very good value for money The service and friendliness of the staff was second to none This will be our go to restaurant from now on We have also booked for a Boxing Day meal which I am sure will be just as good Well done to the owners and staff Keep up the excellent work ! We went for the new breakfast menu, it was lovely. Great value, options to swap things around and the staff made a fuss of my two boys.

Delicious Sunday roast with all the trimmings at a reasonable price £13.95 followed by a lovely caramel latte with cream! Yummy 😋

We went for breakfast which they have just started to do, wasn’t disappointed well worth the money, plenty of choice. Excellent customer service from the staff serving, food amazing have previously had a main meal thought we would try breakfast just as good. Excellent value for money, fully would recommend this restaurant for any of the meals they offer. We will be back very soon.

We have been many times for lunch & always found the food first class. Our daughter asked us where we would like to go for breakfast for our anniversary. We decided to try the new breakfast at the Countryman. We wasn’t disappointed it was first class & very tasty. I didn’t want my Eggs Benedict to end. We will certainly be back.

Went last Saturday for a birthday meal, first time going and cant fault the place. We are actually going again today and very much looking forward to it

My wife and I braved the torrential rain to have lunch. We both had Ham, egg and chips. The lunches arrived very quickly and we immediately noticed that the chips were very undercooked, looked white and were very hard and the ham looked as though it was sweating. The best part of the mealmwas the small portion of side salad. I informed the waiter that we were not very happy with the quality of the food and he said he told the kitchen. There was no reaction from the cook or anyone for that matter. No one seemed bothered that 2 meals had been delivered that was of such poor quality. We will never return to this place.

Half way stop off for us and friends. ( Cheshire/ Peterborough) . Great to see a place so busy on a Monday, Lovely welcome. Friendly staff. The food was beautifully presented and vey fresh. Good wine choice, tap water offered straight away. Very clean surroundings. Would definitely recommend.

Managed to get to the Countryman Pub and Dining for breakfast this morning, WOW!!!! Absolute perfection on a plate, everything is so tasty and cooked to perfection! Compliments to the chef 👨‍🍳 also, the service was spot on, I genuinely couldn't fault it one bit! Oh, and the free refills on the cappuccino was a pleasant surprise! You need to go and try this!!!!

We had a lovely meal , the service was excellent and the staff attentive. We were very impressed with the Gluten free options , my other half is coeliac and most places we go have extremely limited menus that she can choose from, so it made a refreshing change to find such a wide choice to pick from.

A group of 14 adults and 1 infant., booked at short notice for my husbands birthday. Excellent service from the initial phone call to the food on the plate. Super food, far far better than one would expect from pub food. A real credit to the team.

We spotted this restaurant when we were passing and decided to return there on the way back from our appointment. We were glad we did as we both had tasty meals (turkey roast and pie of the day, respectively) for lunch and enjoyed a warm...

Had an amazing meal with a friend. I chose the Cajun chicken burger which was the most delicious chicken burger I’ve ever had. Followed by a yummy apple, rhubarb & cherry crumble with cream (choice of custard or ice cream available too) from the special of the day. Lucy’s service was efficiently, informative & friend with an extra unprompted offer to help with the doors for my wheelchair user friend. We’ll be back 🙌

**my review from 4 years ago** Visited for the first time a few weeks ago I can honestly say it was absolutely amazing from start to finish, staff was very attentive constantly checking if you need extras or more drinks, the food itself was the best pub meal I've ever had even though its quite expensive the quality is spot on. Can't wait to return soon! ...however On recent visits we've found the service to have slipped very slow service minimal attentiveness constantly having to track down a waiter or waitress for another drink, food was lovely but really disappointed with the overall experience Shame really was our favourite place to come

Very expensive rubbish. Asked for olives as soon as we sat down. Asked 5 times more before they eventually arrived. Desert was "ok". Main course was so bad. Supposed to be a creamy sauce with chives. Bland, lumpy and thin with dried tastless chives. Badly...

Went for an evening meal. The food was OK but nothing more. The sauces were very bland. The vegetables completely overcooked, to the point where the brocoli had all the colour cooked out of it. The service was friendly but not particularly efficient, it took about 10 minutes to get the bill after asking. Then after another 10 minutes I had to go to the bar, as no one came to collect the payment. The prices were on the high side, based on the quality. Overall, it was a somewhat disappointing experience.
