Half Moon in Ashfield

I visited the half moon with a friend on a girls night out. On arrival to the half moon my friend went inside while I finished my cigarette. While waiting a young man was being escorted out of the building to which he then punched the pub window and then a girl. I looked at the doorman and ask if he was going to help her to which was replied 'no it's his girlfriend' I continued to smoke my cigarette to then be approached by another doorman that rubbed both his hands up and down my LV handbag that I was holding!! He then walked away saying 'that's a fake!!' To which I replied 'there is nothing fake about me' he then called me a racist which I found highly offensive and he took a picture of me on his phone?! I am sincerely disgusted in the experience of my 5 minutes outside this 'family' pub. We was finally given plastic cups to carry drinks my friend had gone inside to buy and drank them walking down a road which again I'm not sure is professional or even allowed in the uk law. I have tried to contact the manager of the pub but the contact number on google does not work so hopefully he can see from this review what customers must be experiencing if these ordeals all happened in such a short space of time.

Called in for lunch on Thursday . Great choice on menu. Food was spot on. Highlight of our visit was being served by Kenzie. Best service you could wish for Kenzie was/is a superstar.

My friend and I popped in for a couple of non-alcoholics beverages ☕ 🙃 It was nice and Katie immediately rectified a problem. It's nice atmosphere and I loved how the two staff kept to high standards (l haven't seen anywhere else) of covid rules and laws. Very impressed wish more places were like this.

Visited here after looking for somewhere different to go. Very friendly staff and a huge lunch with a good selection of vegetables, lots of meat and a huge Yorkshire pudding! Nice atmosphere as well, been back twice now.

If you ever fancy sunday lunch out , take a trip to hucknall notts, take a walk down the high street to st marys church at the market place ( noted for the burial place of lord byron) opposite is an un assuming public house called the half moon ,a modernised place which is well presented, try the sunday lunch , which is the best we have had in years, never seen such large yorkshite puddings ever, all accompanied by assorted veg and the tastiest gravy ever , all nicely served by the attentive staff , give it a try its well worth the visit

From when I turned 18, I have been coming to this pub at least once a month where the bar staff are always friendly, disco night s are always entertaining and fun (if you fancy dancing until early hours), and the food is always fresh and mouthwatering especially the puddings. This pub has a good reputation for being “ the best pub in Nottingham and the surrounding area s.

Went here in the afternoon for a drink and a meal. We both had the spaghetti bolognese with garlic bread. Very nice, well seasoned. Staff here are really nice, always helpful. Manager also wecoming. Would highly recommend.

Went for Sunday lunch for my wife’s birthday. It is recommended that pre-order your Sunday lunch. We went at 4pm and was told they sold out part from pre-orders we pre-ordered so there was no issue for us. I personally ordered of the main menu while the rest of my family had the Sunday lunch. The portion was massive, I ordered steak and the meat fell apart when cutting it, to me that is good quality and well cooked. We did have to wait a bit but with the large order it was understandable and the landlord and landlady was lovely and kept us updated. Also I felt they was brilliant towards our kids

Went with friends- what a mistake, so embarrassing! The service was appallingly slow-15 minutes to get served and when questioned as to the delay the landlord was rude and obnoxious, and didn’t make any attempt to apologise. Our plan was to have a few drinks and then have a meal, however the toilets were disgustingly filthy and smelly! This coupled with cubicles with no locks on the doors put us off from a hygiene point of view. This seemed to be the case in both the ladies and gentleman’s toilets. Reluctantly I would not recommend this place to eat just awful, and the landlord needs to go on a course to learn to talk to decent people properly and provide good customer service.

I’ve just had the steak sizzler. Can’t fault it, apart from I couldn’t finish it all. I can highly recommended the half moon for good tasty pub food.

Great night out with the girls. Good music which we danced the night away. The staff behind the bar work really hard to get everyone served as it was very busy. Did not eat but the menu look very food. Will go again

I have ate here a few times and never been let down with the quality and service of food and staff. Always friendly and can’t seem to do enough for you, would and have recommend this lovely pub to friends and family.

Visited many times for food and evening drinks and have always been made to feel welcomed and most importantly a valued as a customer. Shall continue to frequent this family run establishment for many years to come!

First of all, I've no issue at all with the staff, they were brilliant. However, in this day and age when there's more competition than ever in the food and drink sphere, there's no excuse at all for this kind of pub anymore. The drinks selection is woefully inadequate, having no real ale at all on my visit, despite there being a number of handpulls. The food is very basic indeed and clearly nothing is made fresh to order, it's very basic pub food. None of this is a problem, except for the fact that the food is overpriced when compared with Wetherspoons for example. There's no reason at all to pick this place over The Pilgrim Oak, unless of course you want some music. For food and drink however, you can do so much better for the same money or less. As for other comments on here, I'd echo that some of the menu items aren't what you expect... The Chicken Goujons for example, do NOT say they're 'Southern Fried' on the menu. I also find it funny that the management can spend time calling out the negative (warranted) reviews on here, but can't do something about the disgusting state of the gents toilets! I don't expect perfection for the price and market this place is aimed at, but the basics should be right at least. As I say, no excuse when there's so much competition. Improve or go out of business seems to be the way of things. Take the criticism and work on it, as I can promise you that you're not learning anything from the reviews giving you 5 stars.

me and a view friends visted here on sunday for the first time , we all decided to have sunday lunch. I had the roast beef which was beautiful all fresh and the Yorkshire puddings are to die for one of the best roast dinner we have ever had. All staff are really friendly and we will 100 % be returning in the future.

There is no children's' menu, so the barmaid told me that the "small portions" section of the menu would suffice. My granddaughters (6 and 3yrs) opted for chicken goujons with chips and peas. It took half an hour to arrive, and the goujons were the "Southern fried" breaded things, which the kids didn't like or eat. The chips were greasy-tasting and cheap. I had a jacket potato, which was OK I suppose, but the side salad was limp and not fresh, and had some dressing on (I left it all).

Generic pub with no style nor class. The food portions were large maybe to compensate for the lack of flavour and quality. The bar staff can not pour a pint to save their lives not to mention that they are condescending, rude and unprofessional. The owner is one of the most vile creatures I have ever met, huge Napoleon complex to match up his pint sized person. Let's say he, under no circumstances, should ever be in the people business. The waitresses are really sweet and kind but one can't help to feel that they are ever so stressed. The ambience is well below average. They have a dressing code of 'no hoodies or sweat pants' however the people inside are largely prospects for the Jeremy Kyle show. If you are in the area go and get a lovely pint from any of the micro pubs. If you fancy a nice meal, choose elsewhere. Having had seen how the management deals with criticism I am looking forward to an aggressive petty reply from them. Unfortunately I am never going there again.

If you want a Sunday lunch anywhere in Nottinghamshire,look no further than the Half Moon Hucknall for your roast,excellent food and staff (the lamb shank is divine) and you will not see Yorkshire Puddings the size of the ones you get here anywhere else,also the range of drinks are plentiful and reasonably priced.

Myself and my partner have been drinking and eating in this fabulous pub for over ten years and we have always been very happy with the service etc.

We haven't been here for a while but decided to come for some drinks last Saturday night and wow. It was a great atmosphere more than reasonable priced drinks and the music the do was playing was great. We cannot wait to come back here again.

Visited for Sunday lunch and it was as tasty as it looked, the Yorkshire puddings were amazing too. We finished it off with a treacle sponge and custard, lovely. The place was very busy but we were quickly found a table for two and to say how busy it was we didn't have to wait for to long before our food was delivered piping hot to the table. Corte el bistec era un encantador de cadera y cocinado a la perfección, la boca. Pasaron a dos filetes de cadera para 16 libras lo excelente relación calidad-precio servido con patatas fritas guisantes y aros de cebolla. Patatas gambas guisantes también era muy sabrosa como las setas ajo y ensalada fresca. Nos redondeo de con un bizcocho de jarabe y caliente crema pastelera, maravilloso. El personal es muy acogedor y amable, la comida se sirve a la mesa bien caliente y el servicio es bueno. Que volveré pronto y lo recomiendo altamente este encantador pub. Just visited today for Sunday lunch ,what can I say it's the best Sunday lunch I have ever had all credit to the chef. It's a lovely place the staff are very nice , friendly and attentive expecially a young barman who I think his name is Tyler lovely barman we will definitely return and would recommend to our friends the only down side to our visit was that they allow smokers to use their electronic cigarettes inside the pub which I didn't like as al the pubs I have been too done allow

Pasó por visitar brevemente mientras. Muy cálida bienvenida del personal del bar. Pedimos el almuerzo de los domingos, que era muy bueno. Calidad de carne, buena selección de vegetales y un Yorkshire que se podía usar como un sombrero. Muy satisfechos.

Went with friends on Sat. Chips were undercooked, fish was strange, chicken tough and cold coffee. Worst of all my 96 year old friend asked for gravy to which she was very directly told that she would have to pay 60p upfront before she could order it from upstairs. Didn't feel looked after at all and won't be returning!

Came for a family drink with my grandma and other members of family. When ordering drinks I asked for a glass of red wine, both bar staff laughed at me and said "not many men ask for wine in here" which I just thought was rude and Ill manured. Disaster.

Come here on a regular for a pint(or 6) good priced beer and really nice food. Pool table/fruit machines also.

We use this bar quite a lot it's a good bar but the music on a Saturday night needs updating it's the same every week Motown and cheese give us some modern music please

Having been told to go here by my daughter after she had had a awesome sunday lunch! Visited during the week last week mid afternoon food,service were good but bit put off by the club music blurring out , just wouldv'e preferred something softer felt like we'd gone out clubbing on a fri / sat night. Visited again with whole family this week and again great service,food it's just the music in the background needs toning down for a mid week mid afternoon... other than that everything good thanks!

One of the tastiest Sunday lunches around. Popped in numerous times for a quick drink but, never eaten here prior to this. We were all really impressed. Don't be put off by the town centre 'drinkers pub' image. Quality food with fabulous service. The staff and particularly the owner are uber professional, really fresh and happy and they dish out fabulous food. The menu is varied and big for an independent pub. Really nice family friendly pub serving up delicious food with a nice atmosphere. Thanks guys

Me and my friend have just visited the Half Moon and we both had the Beef Sunday lunch. There must have been at least five slices of lovely cooked beef on the plate, fresh broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, roast and mash potato, and a massive home baked yorkshire pudding. Their facebook page says "best Sunday lunch in Hucknall" You'd have to go a long way to get a better Sunday lunch in Nottinghamshire for the price of £7.95!!!!! We will be back without a doubt. Thank you Half Moon for making our Sunday so enjoyable!

We were in Hucknall for the day and popped in for lunch. The menu had a great deal of choice and I ordered salad with cajun chicken. It was fantastic - looked beautiful, the chicken was spicy with a fiery kick and there was lots of it. Large bowl of salad and it included garlic bread all for under £7. This was the best salad I have had. Great tasting food, portions are large and very good value for money. We really enjoyed our visit and will be back again.

Been in again for another roast dinner on Sunday & was absolutely lovely. Although have to admit this time I couldn't eat it all as the portion was big! They also make the biggest Yorkshire Puddings I have ever seen. Great value for money & staff very friendly.

Just visited here with family as they live nearby. Between us ordered fish & chips, steak, the cheese & bacon burgers and cheesy nachos. The steak was the best out of all those (cooked just as ordered). The nachos came with garlic dip and were generally not nice (clumps of cheap cheese). The burgers are processed meat and plastic cheese. The coke also tasted of chemicals and we had to send back twice but the staff did replace with a bottled cocoa cola. Again, the staff are ace, really friendly, but the food really lets this place down. Won't be back.

Last night i went out for a few drinks with friends and we left one pub to go to the moon walk up to show the bouncer our ID and he refused to let us in even though we all had ID. His excuse was "It is to busy in there so not tonight" so we don't challenge him on why so we start to walk away and i have a quick look in the window and there was barely any people in there so we go round the corner and we see people walk towards the moon so we have a quick look to see if he let them go in and he let them in! I always used to go in moon because there is great music in there and the staff are nice aswell but i dont think i want to go again after last night.

The place looks really nice inside and the outside area looks lovely now it's been done up. The staff are always really friendly and the service is great. It's also lovely to sit outside when the sun is out.

Popped in for for a late lunch with family (in-laws) today. Absolutely fabulous food.Great service from friendly staff.Definitely recommend that you try here. Mark is the guy if you want a surprise cocktail. The cocktails are seriously epic, always perfectly balanced and full measures! . This is the first the in-law have visited here, and they'll be back!The sharing platter was prefect for 4 and really tasty, we all loved it. For mains we had the 8oz rump, chicken and chips, mixed grill and the ribs sizzler, the result is a unanimous "hell yeah" from our group. All I can say is forget going to the Pilgram, come here and get bang for your buck.Oh, 2 for 1 cocktails Wednesday and Thursday

Thankyou for the beautiful food. All my family enjoyed it and believe me they are hard to please. LolTyler was especially amazing. He created the right atmosphere while we was eating. The right music was playing. He asked us how our food was. But wasn't over the top. He left us to it. Don't let him go. Lovely lad. X We will deffo be back.

I liked this pub very much when it first re opened but over time there standards seem to be slipping . Never have any food left that they advertise on there menu, I understand it is a child friendly pub but I don't thing that letting children run around the bar area is in my opinion acceptable . The good points are the staff are very nice and friendly and the prices are very reasonable

Saw this pub on Trip Advisor and it read well. Don't be put off by the appearance or the fact that two of the staff were throwing someone out when we arrived. Food was excellent and well presented. Staff helpful and friendly. Prices low. Very pleasantly surprised.

This is a pleasant place to meet friends for a reasonably priced meal and drink. Staff are friendly and the food is of good quality.

My family and I have just been here for dinner on Friday afternoon at 4pm. It was quiet and the food didn't take long at all. I love the food here. I tend to have the steak sizzler because I love it. My Husband normally has the Southern Fried Chicken Burger, which comes with tasty coleslaw. My kids played on the pool table, table football and on the electronic games machine. The staff are really welcoming and friendly. They are very child friendly, as the Owners have got a Son. I sometimes come here on nights out too, I love the music and the staff. Overall it's a great all-rounder.

we both go here for a drink and a meals most off the time its spot on .the landlady and landlord have super polite staff who take time to get to know you and make you feel welcome

I don't really know the town and some of the pubs I have been are not great but would not recommend this place. I suffer from a reaction that results in a type of allergic skin inflammation known as allergic contact dermatitis from jeans. I do own dress trousers but I rather wear tracksuit bottoms as I'm a fitness instructor and after a hard day at work I don't want to be restricted. I understand they have rules in place because there use to be trouble before new management with yobs but most places do make allowances and go on discretion and as it was a quiet Monday night. I have managed bars before in Nottingham and I am also a door man but when the manager comes down and asks you for a doctors note I personally find this rude and a bit cheeky that he would question somebodies health. He allowed me to stay for a pint after I tried to explain in a polite manner but personally this place is loosing custom because he is tarring everybody with the same brush.

Really friendly bar staff and professional door staff. Great atmosphere. Never rated it before it re opened.. Although now, it's turned around and the best in hucknall by far, well done!

Myself and my partner went here weds afternoon and what a lovely afternoon we had.The staff were attentive and friendly ,it was a good drink.The seating area was very comfortable with tv.s around,the background music was spot on for our taste.The toilets were spotless and the only thing it could have been a little warmer in there.We decided to have a meal which was exceptional,we had the gammon which was cooked to perfection and reasonably priced,the whole plate was delish.So thankyou half moon for a lovely afternoon nice to meet you and we will certainly return.

First time ive been in here since it reopened, very nice indeed beer spot on and the food I saw served looked very scrummy even though I didn't order any. I love football and the half moon has plenty of tvs to watch all over the place so where ever you are in the pub you won't miss any action.staff I met very friendly, I myself will be returning more regularly well done to the staff for making my visit a nice one

Our first visit to the Half Moon. Has had a serious facelift and a very nice place to be. Staff are very helpful and the food is very good, had several meals there. If you don't want chips with everything try the chicken & mushroom pie with mash and peas. Very substantial and we had difficulty finishing it.! The people of Hucknall are lucky to have this place being run so well. Recommended to anyone who likes a good drink and a nice meal in very pleasant surroundings, and well done to the Cunninghams for putting so much work in, it's obviously been well worth it.

A very warm and welcoming atmosphere to be had in the Half Moon these days. You couldn't meet a friendlier family than Neil and his lovely mum. Food is very good and you certainly get your moneys worth as the portions are on the large side. Great entertainment at the weekends by fantastic DJ's and friendly door staff. The bar staff are very friendly as well. Would recommend it to anyone in the area.

Neil and mark are doing a great job and have completely turned the pub scene round in hucknall...can't fault the food, staffs great even down to the door men...great atmosphere, we are in the most Fridays...I had my reservations at first but Neil's proven me wrong :)

iv been all around hucknall & to be honest all in:...there is only a hand full of good pubs which do good food & drinks I'm in the half moon daily & the drinks and food are almost the same in price & quality BUT for a better atmosphere it has to be the half moon I'm not just saying this because I go in daily because I'm very fussy when it comes to drink & food but I have to say the half moon is very good for both food & drink if not the best in hucknall ever since the half moon reopened. id happly give it a 6 if I could & id fight in there corner to defended this matter.

I find the pub/restaurant a little bit annoying! The recent revamp was only half a job with remnants of the old Half Moon left in every corner, especially the toilets. The drinks are too expensive compared to other establishments in the area and the weekend entertainment is cheese at its best, borderline CAMP! The DJ's seem to be more like 'cardboard cut outs' than natural entertainers and seemingly told what to do by an owner that is obviously unsure about what his role should actually be, he clearly wants to be in the 'lime light'... A very uncomfortable thing to be part of personally.. The food is ok, the environment is ok... Its better than having a closed building I suppose?

The staff are brilliant and as for the food, well superb. The owners have done a grand job on the refurbishment as well. very classy pub. ♥♥♥♥♥♥ would highly recommend it. So if you havent been yet, your missing out. Get yourselves down there.

I'm glad to see the old girl spiced up and being a very safe and secure with excellent staff who are to be commended. I was sad to have to leave after a great night out. I recommend this pub to All its great!!!!

Living in Hucknall the Half Moon has been a regular drinking place of mine in the past. It did get a bit of a reputation and closed down a few months ago and it looked to be the end of the road. But the new owner has made it into a really nice place both in surroundings and atmosphere. A nice range of beers and a superb range of wines plus a very reasonably priced menu has made this one of my favourite places to eat. I can recommend the mixed grill. Its a shame that there still seems to be the need to have excessively loud music on Friday and Saturday nights after 9pm although i can understand it brings the punters in it makes me and my friends move elsewhere.

Great food. Friendly staff. Good vibes. Hucknalls hottest venue. :-) would recommend to those after a quiet meal in the day or disco by night. All around great family run pub.

Went here Sunday 15th June 2014 (Fathers' Day) with my wife. It's a recently refurbished pub and under new management after having been closed for some time. It's ideally positioned, right next to the market place and convenient for parking, the buses etc. I have been before for drinks and have had a snack here, I've always found it cheerful and friendly, but this was the first time I've been for a full blown meal. I had BBQ ribs - and doubled up on the ribs for £4 because I was feeling particularly greedy! - and my wife had chicken Sunday roast dinner. A nice woman (I assume the landlady) asked me would I like to try roast potatoes instead of chips with my BBQ ribs, then suggested I might have a few of both for no extra charge! The food came pretty quickly, it was great quality, piping hot and to say it was plentiful was an understatement! My meal came on two plates, it was so large! There was a full portion of roasties, they were beautifully done, and a full portion of chips. My wife had to help me eat them in the end! Her Sunday roast dinner was excellent, all fresh veg and extra gravy to help her demolish the Yorkshire pud. I had to say to the landlady as I left that it was easily the best value meal I'd had in ages. Would I come back? Yes, I drink here occasionally, but I will definitely come back for grub if they continue to serve it at this standard, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a decent nosh without all the fuss.
