Popped in for some dinner from staying at the hotel across the road. Scampi, salad, jacket and pepper sauce was all lovely. The only reason it’s not a five star review is because the steak wasn’t a great cut - every mouth full I had to spit some of it out due to the gristle but that’s. It the chefs fault. Service was good and the meal was good value.

We visited on a Friday evening, expecting it to be very busy and crammed, but it was quite busy, however the food still came really quickly and we spent little time queueing. My mother had the Grilled Halloumi and Sweet Chilli Wrap and she said it was very good and tasted fresh and homemade. She also said it had a bit of spice, but it was not overwhelming. I had a cheese and tomato panini (both meals came with chips) which was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious! The chips were crisp on the outside, with a fluffy inside and tasted fresh and nicely seasoned. The food was well presented. The food came to a small total of £7.49 (or something similar) which was a great price for good quality food

When out for a meal with my family on a Sunday evening my first port of call would be my local spoons in Sutton in Ashfield. Alas, and sadly, as one comes almost to expect nowadays, our choice of beverage had run out. Yet again. Fortunately on this occasion, we had a teetotal car driver with us so we took off to the next nearest local spoons in Kirkby. Parking was outside along the main street. This is the first time we had ever been here so was pleasantly surprised about the inside. I thought losing the big screen was a bit of an interior designers faux pas and a possibility lost but there you go. Our beverage of choice - Stella Artois - was indeed available here I'm pleased to say and it appeared to be well kept, the bar service prompt enough - although to be fair, it was getting on for late-ish and there weren't too many punters in by then. Our food order came quick enough and was hot and of standards expected so we stayed on a while and had a few more rounds whilst we were there. I'd have no hesitation using this particular spoons again should we be looking for a family get together in pleasant surroundings. Its a pub and it does what it should - serve the customers needs. So the message to the never present Richard of Sutton is thanks a bunch; without your continuing ineptitude, we wouldn't have found this little oasis.

Being a Weatherspoon's fan, after visiting EM designer outlet, my partner and I thought we'd visit the nearest spoons. First impressions it looked a decent enough pub but was a bit dreary inside. We then needed to find a table which wasn't hard as it was a quiet Thursday afternoon (14:00)There were loads free tables however many of them had not been cleared and were dirty which seemed odd due the lack of customers in the pub yet the staff just seem to be stood behind the bar not doing much.Once we found a clean table I went to order our food and drinks.I ordered a Guinness which was not pored properly, the staff member just filled it to the top without letting it settle half way thorough which I've never had at a Weatherspoon's before. The food came in good time and I couldn't fault it. (Curry club)All in all I've been to many better Weatherspoon's than this one but it could of been a lot worse.

Waited for ages for Kirkby to have a 'good' pub to visit for drink and food, in an atmosphere where you didn't feel like you where going to get in a fight if you looked at someone funny???Then two came along, the Kingsway is good but pricey, The Regent is just simply great value for money. The Curry Club, Steak Night and Chicken Nights are good, and at the weekend the breakfast option is a great way to start a family weekend. I love a quick pint every so often, the choice of beer at the Regent is always good and more importantly it is kept well and this is the secret to a good pub. Looking forward to spending more time with the family and hopefully friends (if they are prepared to come drinking in Kirkby) in the Regent, and more time in here means more money spent locally! It isn't very far from the centre of Nottingham, quite near the Water's Edge set up by the Cricket Ground. I would go there again and again. The food was first rate and very appetising, service was excellent and price wise perfect for families on a limited budget. There was plenty of space everywhere and you couldn't help but find a spot suitable for your visit. Ours was a children friendly area which is just what we needed. My Wife and l have been to the Regent Weatherspoon`s Kikby In Ashfield four times since we moved into the area last November. On a Tuesday -Steak Day, at Lunchtime when you would not expect to encounter many who are in excess of drink. We usually have a 14oz Aberdeen Angus Steak and a Pint each and all for under £14.00. All of the food hot and fresh. The John Smiths bitter is very good, but you can have a Top Larger or Guinness it is all included in the £14,00 for two. The quality of the food is excellent. The lady that usually is serving is very nice and very hands on and personable. Quick food service once order placed. You can also have either a 8oz rump or 8oz Sirloin and a pint each for £10.00.!!!Only ever have one slight gripe, There is no order or proper queuing system for getting served at the bar for either the initial drink/food order or for a subsequent pint.l feel that WEATHERSPOONS should look at this as they may well be missing extra drink orders. Having said that, the staff behind the bar appear to know who is next, however quite often that gets overlooked and some friction between customers , especially those who have been waiting may occur. There also seems to be an over emphasis of service attention for anyone who is just having coffee. I would rate this establishment at lunchtimes as 9/10. Give it a try.

I came in here to have a quick drink before meeting a friend and was frowned at as I came up to the bar by the man behind it who was pouring a drink for another customer. I shrugged it off as it may have been out of concentration. In that time, a child at a table grabbed for their drink and it slipped from their grasp to which the bartender rolled his eyes and said (audibly) "oh for ****'s sake..." to which the mother raised her eyes as did the customer who's drink he was sorting. I figured that there was no way I was going to stay there and went and bought an overpriced drink from the "beach" in the square and enjoyed the atmosphere there instead.

I recently took my 2 year old son to Wetherspoons Nottingham for some breakfast (toast and a coffee). I am very experienced in this particular activity, and entirely competent in meeting his many demands. However, my experience in this particular branch of Wetherspoons (Sir Joseph Else - who was he, anyway?) left me entirely bloody speechless. The debacle ensued when I ordered the coffee (for me) and the toast (for my son). Now, bear in mind my son is 2 years old. That's right. 2. Can you advise me, please, on exactly how one is supposed to pour the milk (from the dispenser) into the cup, add the sugar and then carry the (literally) boiling hot drink back to the other end of the pub (the "child friendly part), whilst simoultaneously pushing a buggy? It's tricky. It's a bit like that riddle - you know, the one with the fox, chicken and food. Having been to the Roebuck branch of Wetherspoons (literally 5 minutes' walk away) and been happy with their service, I made the mistake of assuming all Wetherspoons staff were obliging, helpful folk. I couldn't have been more wrong. I asked the lady who gave (sorry, threw) me back my change whether she could possibly add milk and sugar to the coffee for me? The look she gave me was akin to the look you might reserve for, say, someone who enjoys killing puppies in a microwave. However, after just a few heavy martyred sighs, she agreed to perform this momentously hard task in order to, well, help a customer. She placed the cup down so hard on the table in front of me that the (literally) boiling hot liquid jumped out of the cup (possibly in fright), narrowly missing my son. Believe me, had he been scalded simply because of her reluctance to carry out a simple request, I would not have been quiet about my displeasure. Anyway. That was the coffee. It tasted OK. And now on to the toast. We waited 15 minutes for the toast to arrive. My son was hungry and beginning to grumble. I wondered whether the staff were actually baking the bread themselves. Eventually, a grumpy looking lady came out with a plate piled with bread, butter and marmalade. There were two things immediately wrong with this:1. The toast was cold. Not luke warm, I will add, but actually freezing cold. That toast had been out of the toaster at least 10 minutes. The butter was marginally softer than your average brick. Have you ever tried spreading hard butter on freezing cold toast? It's tricky. But I managed. After a bit of swearing and there were a few holes in the toast, but hey, who cares?2. I asked for jam and got marmalade. My son will. Not. Eat. Marmalade. If I tried him with it, he wouldn't have eaten any of the toast at all. So I asked a passing waitress whether she would mind swapping it for strawberry jam, please. She took the marmalade and came out with...blackcurrant jam! I asked again for strawberry jam, thinking she hadn't heard me. She advised me tersely that they hadn't "got none". Oh dear. Undeterred, my 2 year old beavered away on his freezing cold toast with jam that had strange little bits in, whilst I sipped at my still (literally) boiling hot liquid (which tasted like Aldi's own brand instant granules). Once we had both finished, my son was in something of a mess, so I took him to the toilets to clean him up. Or tried to. The toilets were locked! I had to then take him back to the bar, request the keys and then take him to the toilet. The other toilets were down two flights of stairs and hardly child friendly at all. So. Would I go back to this Wetherspoons again? No. No, I wouldn't. The staff clearly didn't want to be there, on the whole. There was one notable exception to this rule...the nice Irish lady who was clearly taken by my little boy and gave him a little colouring booklet and some small colouring pencils. I wonder whether Wetherspoons could somehow implant her enthusiasm and charisma into the rest of their employees???? The "food" was diabolical (why wait 15 minutes to bring out one serving of toast?), the coffee was boiling for at least 20 minutes. The "service" was terrible, the attitudes of most of the staff left a lot to be desired. Value for money? No. I paid £2.09 and I could have done a better job at home. Atmosphere wasn't great, either, really, but that wasn't really what I went for. I think I will stick with the Roebuck next time.

OK, so the only other wetherspoons we've visited was in Lymington which opened roughly the same time as The Regent in our local town. (Lymington locals campaigned long and hard against wetherspoons opening but it's always packed) Not sure if you know the areas but you can't really get two much more opposites and let's just say that Kirkby ain't on the posh side of the street. It was with a little trepidation then when friends suggested breakfast a few weeks ago. Well what an eye opener! The building is a 1930's deco cinema and has been very nicely converted and at the moment is having further work done. There was a kebab shop taking up part of the building but this has been bought and the pub is being extended. I'm impressed that whoever the jd design team are they do keep and enhance the original character of the buildings, well done on that score.Food - again surprisingly good and very reasonable,we've also had evening meals here which we've enjoyed. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly.I do have to mention the staff here as they have, without exception, been great and I think this makes a world of difference.

A group of us have just had a lovely Christmas lunch, it was excellent. Right from the initial booking to eating and paying for our food and drink everything was excellent. We all received our food at the same time it was great quality and the service was excellent too. Thank you so much we will all be back soon.
