I've been going to this delightful cafe for the last two years. There are plenty of cafes in Penrith but I still think this is the best. It is tucked out of the way so is easily missed by the visitor but is worth seeking out. Always good coffee (locally roasted) and food and good value. Bacon roll with sourdough is my favourite.

I popped in for a late lunch as the place looked inviting from the outside. I ordered a bacon sandwich with hash browns and it was tasty and filling. The service was quite quick and the staff were really friendly. I then had a Mars cake after which was also nice. I will pop back for a bite to eat again when I’m next visiting the area. One of my favourite little cafes 🙂

Came to Penrith with family for an afternoon out, and stumbled across this lovely cafe. Very friendly and welcoming staff, a relaxed atmosphere, spotlessly clean. We had quiche and salad, drinks and dessert. Quiche was lovely with some of the best shortcrust pastry I've tasted. All home made, reasonably priced and good quality. Would definitely visit again.

I ordered a coffee and a bacon sandwich at 12.20 At 10 past 1, I began to eat the serviette !!. Two couples in front of me were still waiting for food. Whilst travelling from east Yorkshire to Dumfries and Galloway we stopped here for lunch as we have done for many years. Parking is easy at the Sainsbury's so it's a short 4 minute walk through the "squares". It's got a proper little tea room look & feel. We usually don't have any problems finding a table. The place always looks clean and there's never tables with dirty crockery from previous customers as the staff are very attentive, courteous, and polite. I had a bacon roll which was just right, bacon was like farm shop quality and perfectly cooked. The menu has enough choice for lunch or lite bites, hot and cold sandwiches, soups, toasties, salads, things on toast, cakes etc, as well as hot and cold drinks. We've stopped here for lunch for many years and will continue to do so. Good value, food always good and plentiful. Highly recommended! Note, it closes about 4pm

I didn't have to wait too long for it too arrive, knowing that it was being made to order. Piping hot, full of flavour, one clean plate. I opted for orange juice, which was out of a carton. Last year when we were staying in the area whilst on holiday in the UK, we visited this wonderful independent coffee shop so, on our visit this year, it didn't take much thought as to where we could have a drink and a snack ( on three occasions this time!)We weren't disappointed and we believe that this consistency of food quality and service is the strength of this establishment and we couldn't help seeing how busy the cafe was, each time we visited this year.Hot drinks( coffee and hot chocolate) were excellent and the various snacks we bought were also of very good quality. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and, despite being busy, there was no sense of being rushed. Prices are extremely reasonable considering the area.I know I'm repeating what I said last year but independently owned shops are the life blood of town centres and they need supporting. In our opinion, this coffee shop is much superior to the well known "chains" so, citizens of and visitors to Penrith, don't miss out!

We hadn't been to the Country Coffee Shop before but we were very impressed on our first visit so much so when we were in Penrith a few days later, it wasn't difficult to decide where to have a warming drink and snack. Although we didn't have a cooked meal, ones that were prepared for other customers certainly looked tempting! There's a good range of hot and cold drinks available along with home made cakes etc. don't be put off if the cafe looks full downstairs as there is more seating on the first floor. Service is quick and friendly and it's certainly a good place to relax over a coffee and let the stresses of the day pass you by! Prices are very reasonable and this little cafe is highly recommended.

On a short stay in Penrith we came across this place, initially just wanted a coffee. We were warmly welcomed and guided upstairs to our table, the place was almost full which was a great sign. Very impressed with the menu offering a wide selection, so as well as coffee my partner had a prawn mare rose sandwich and I had a 'carrot hummus' sandwich which was awesome! on our choice of breads. The operation is very smooth and we were served our food quickly and attended to regularly. The premises are simply decorated and clean, as are the toilets. This place is deceptive from the outside as looks very small, almost passed it by, glad I didn't!My mother was in the hotel and catering industry for 50 years (some would say fussy), I would take her here anytime as this little gem has got it right.Thank you!

Visited with friends for breakfast while on holiday. We all had bacon and Cumberland sausage sandwiches. Fabulous tasty and full sandwiches on granary bloomer, served hot. Great service and with a smile. If you are in town eat here.

During our long stay in Penrith we found this gem of a coffee shop and used it as the 'Place of Choice' for the entire stay; using it for casual coffee and lunch. Great food, service and friendly staff. The Country Coffee Shop is a real gem and highly recommended. Great Wi-Fi also available.

We visited on Thursday afternoon for coffee and cake and were so pleased with the place that we went back the following morning for the huge breakfast. Absolutely great little cafe ,lovely food, but most of all a nice atmosphere. The staff know there regulars by name and even said lovely to see you again. And thanks for coming in.Simple manners and a warm greeting are totally free here.

Went there is morning and got to the bottom of a full breakfast and found along hair in my food underneath a rasher of bacon. My family member decided to pay for it regardless not to cause 'a scene'. However, when I mentioned this to the owner she simply exclaimed "I don't know how it got there". I don't know either but it wasn't from me (a man with short hair!). We were offered a couple of scones as a gesture but a more appropriate action would be to remove the charge of the breakfast. If i had been on my own I wouldn't have been paying for it full stop. Often the sign of a good place is how the deal with issues and in this case it wasn't well. Next time I'm visiting family I'll go elsewhere - clearly repeat business is not a business priority here!A shame as the quality of the food was good until that point.

Nice little coffee shop which sells good food and cakes and so on. We only had realised and coffee but the food that was coming from the kitchen looked really nice. This place is tucked away so don't expect much in the way of people watching. Nice though

We found a carpark and here this was. Couldn't have done better. Both Big Breakfast and poached eggs were very good. Very nice plunger coffee, toast and marmalade. Lovely friendly service.

I needed some food mid afternoon - 3.00 to be precise. I looked at another café across the car park but they had stopped serving food! Fortunately the Country Coffee shop was still serving. I had delicious roasted red pepper and courgette soup and a soft bread roll. Staff were friendly.

What a busy wee place, but the welcome was warm and the service fast. We only wanted coffee and cakes (and what a fantastic selection they had) but they had no problem with this even though it was lunchtime. The lemon drizzle cake was feather light and just the right level of lemony sharpness, by far the best I've ever tried. The scones were really good and huge, their special one, strawberry and banana was delicious. A more generous portion of butter would of been nice but I'm sure if I'd asked they would of obliged. Their millionaires shortcake was super sweet and chocolatey with just the right amount of fudgy toffee in the middle, Heaven on a plate. The coffee was good and it was nice to be offered instant or a cafetiere for the decaff. The whole place was clean and the staff helpful, well worth a wee detour to break a long journey.

While looking for food we stumbled on this lucky find. The Bothy is a very welcoming themed cafe, due to most other venues in Kirby Stephen only serving drinks that day the bothy was busy but we still received a warm welcome and advised we would have a wait, we didn’t mind so placed our order. The food was different, not the cheapest but absolutely delicious, the staff even though very busy were so polite and kept us informed of progress with our order. A bit more of an offer for children would be a bonus.

We go to The Bridge about 4 times per year. We are not very extravagant but when we do eat out we want it to be better than I can make at home. Any guest we bring with us all love it too. Every meal we’ve had here has been excellent! My favourites are Twice Baked Cheese Soufflé, The Seafood Linguini, my hubby loves the Fish & Chips (he has this every time he goes, lol) . My son loves the Squid starter and I also love the Pate when it’s on. I had a gorgeous fish course in spring but I forget the name of the fish which was the whitest fish I’ve ever seen. I highly recommend Bridge Bistro.

If you like ice cream, you will love this place. Excellent range of superb ice cream at a very reasonable price. Great to be able to sit and enjoy it whilst looking over to the Pennines with the production team (Jersey cows) chomping away. Very friendly staff.

Had an excellent early supper, starters were beautiful, good selection, tasty and well presented . The mains, steaks and a roast dinner were equally good. Substantial portions and cooked exactly to our specifications. We had delicious desserts and everything was complemented by some very good wines. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The chef obviously uses quality ingredients and is extremely competent . Lovely ambience, delicious supper.
