We hadn't been to the Dales for a long time, but being up north for a family celebration we decided to have a few days in Kettlewell and stay at the Cottage Tea Room for a B&B. We were glad we did. Mike and Jaynie were very friendly and welcoming hosts, our room was comfortable (with a very nice bathroom) and Mike cooked an excellent breakfast every day - our dogs appreciated the sausages Mike kindly gave them! Thoroughly recommended.

Called in whilst walking The Dales Way. It’s a small perfectly acceptable village cafe. Reading some reviews I wonder if folk were expecting The Ivy. I had a cup of tea and a bacon & egg sandwich. Both were absolutely fine, exactly as I’d have expected. The owners were both very nice, chatting to me about the walk and the weather (which was wet!).

We were met by an unfriendly lady and when we asked for a latte and flat white were told abruptly it was filter coffee black or white. Unfortunately we chose two white coffees which were vile. We tipped them away and went to the deli cafe down the road and had two amazing drinks and cake.

Beautiful little B&B! As a young couple just wanting some peace and quiet this was exactly what we needed. We usually shy away from B&Bs and stay at main stream hotels. However we were pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed our stay here, the room was clean and comfy and the breakfast was amazing. Not sure why there is so many reviews about price being overpriced as I’d say it’s very fair with the cost of living. The host Mike was really helpful and friendly. We will 100% be back.

Visited this tea room 4 years ago before this last visit and what a change. Four years ago the lady owner was so welcoming, nothing was too much trouble and the food was amazing. Imagine our disappointment when going back to find seating is outside under a canopy, drinks are in a paper cup and well overpriced at £2.50 for a tea (gone are the pots of tea from before) and the service was appalling. No friendly greeting - it honestly felt as though the customers were an inconvenience. If we hadn't have been so in need of a drink after our walk, we would have told the assistant not to bother. His rudeness was totally unbelievable. It wasn't just us, another couple who arrived shortly after we had been given our drinks, received the same disgraceful service. We were all amazed at what we were seeing. We certainly will not be going back - next time we will have a drink at the local pub.

We are on a short motorcycle tour of Yorkshire and always patronise local, small businesses. A shame that, when we were caught in a rainstorm and called in for a warming brew, we were told we had to spend more than £10 or use cash. The excuse being, ‘it costs us too much to use the card machine’. News to me, once you pay your monthly rental. Hey ho. Thank you to The Three Sheep’s Tearoom in Skipton for our much-needed latte’s

We stopped off on way to holiday in the dales. We asked for pot of tea for two and egg and bacon. I was surprised to get a cup of tea in a paper cup then egg and bacon came wrapped in tin foil not a plate or cup in site we felt let down. Tables were dirty and no attempt to clean table's between customers. The price was outrageous as there was no washing up or cleaning to do so it was easy money for them.

Only cafe open in the area otherwise wouldn't have bothered. No indoor seating only outside under a grubby canopy. Expensive for drinks and cake. Lady who served us did not display any of the usual friendly Yorkshire hospitality! Cake comes presented in a bag not on a plate and was dry eating. Cash only under £10. Owner refused to fill a cold water bottle which about sums up the place. Wouldn't return. The Blue Bell Inn further up the road is a far better choice for refreshments with a welcoming and friendly landlady.

Sadly this cafe was a real disappointment. As walkers we didn’t mind eating ouTside but the covered area was grim and unwelcoming. One of the tables hadn’t been cleared and the whole area was scruffy. We ordered at the door as the cafe was not accepting people inside. The lady who served us was polite but not very friendly. Cake was delicious. Tea ok but coffee was cold and served in paper cups. It was such a disappointment as we have been in the past without a problem. We felt that they didn’t really want customers and at £9 + for a pice of cake a tea and a coffee to sit in a grim tent was taking advantage. Pub next time as we won’t be going there again. Not recommended.

What a cute room with a gorgeous bathroom. Very warm and cozy and care had been take to make the decor classy and contemporary. The large bath ( for two 😉) was a real bonus after throbbing feet scaling Malham Cove and Janet’s Foss. The bath robes made the stay feel luxurious. Breakfast - couldn’t fault it. A rare treat for us to have fresh juice, fruit and cereals as well as think cut bacon, good quality sausages, beans and mushrooms. Plenty of toast and tiptree jam. Mike was a wonderful cook and a perfect host. If you want a break away, love walking and peace and quiet… book now! Thank you for helping make our birthday night away so special. Called for breakfast and ordered a sausage sandwich each. After ordering, we sat at a table and noticed they were all grimy and dirty. 2 large baps brought to us with 4 or 5 thin sausages in each. Quite a meal but the sausages were dry and hard and seemed to have been yesterdays food warmed up, so at £5 each, seemed very overpriced. The service was not welcoming either. I will not return.

Staff unhelpful, tea in paper cups, bacon sandwiches appeared in less than five minutes. I presume bacon had been precooked and heated in microwave. The bacon was tough and inedible. Not at all welcoming but we were desperate for a hot drink and no where else was open. Was served tea in a paper cup, cake which was tasty but straight from the fridge so very cold. And for a place that was presumably trying to be super COVID friendly the tables and surrounding ground were littered with crumbs and spillages. In hindsight I would have preferred to get a takeout coffee from the machine in the friendly village store.

We called for morning coffee before heading out on a walk to Buckden. There are signs stating Table Service. The cafe wasn't busy and when after ten minutes no one had been to take an order despite seeing us sitting at a table, I went to the 'hatch'. I was told to sit down and someone would come. We felt the rather charmless waiter ignored us for a while longer on purpose. Two luke warm tasteless filter coffees and a milkshake were just short of £9. Visited today around 10.30 am for a coffee and sat inside. The carpet in the cafe, up the stairs and in the toilet was dirty and could do with throwing. There were cobwebs in the stone fireplace. Our table was grubby and littered with crumbs. The staff seemed unaware of our arrival and there was a long delay before our order was taken. The proprietor kept up an endless warbling. The tea things arrived on a dirty tray. The egg and bacon sandwich was served on a stale bap, poorly spread with cheap butter substitute. The egg was ok, the bacon like shoe leather - inedible. This and two cups of tea cost £9.75. I complained to the waitress but she didn't apologise or offer a refund. Oh, and a quick look into the kitchen - what a shocker - clearly showed the much-vaunted AGA hadn't been cleaned in a while.

My friend and I paid a visit to Kettlewell last Wednesday to take a look at their scarecrow festival. We were not dissapointed, just like we were not dissapointed or unhappy with either the food, service or the cleanliness of the cottage tea rooms. We both had the hot beef and onion bap, which was served with a nice fresh side salad. We both agreed it was fantastic. We also had a cream tea to follow, all we can say about that was wow! Two high warm scones, loads of butter, four little pots of jam, and a hugh bowl of fresh cream, and of course a pot of tea, which gave us two cups of tea each. How they do it for the price amazed us. Oh and we both agreed the toilets were spotless. I can only assume the bad reviews were from people who perhaps mixed their cafes up.

I ordered a latte and it tasted like one if the sachet mix ones you buy as a multipack, certainly not fresh coffee. The price though suggests it will be real coffee at least. Only good thing was the roast ham which tastes good but was accompanied with bland oven chips.

Called in for a bite to eat during the scarecrow festival with my friend and my daughter...sat at a table outside in the sunshine. Service was quick and efficient. Ordered an aga roasted pork sandwich with stuffing and apple sauce. With a side of chips and a cafetiere of coffee. Daughter had a potion of chips, followed by a scoop of lemon curd ice cream...the food was delicious. Will definitely return. Our waiter and waitress were friendly, courteous and efficient

Went on a coach trip to the scarecrow festival basically called in here to escape the horrendous weather. I am amazed at the negative reviews we were warmly welcomed by the owner and had two very large and very tasty cream teas Lots of jam butterand a giant bowl of cream - all for only £6.95 each. I wish i had taken a picture of it We spoke to another couple who were raving about how good and huge the breakfast is.I would go here again hope the weather is better.

Beautiful afternoon sat outside the tearooms before we headed off on the scarecrow trail. Enjoyed hot pork sandwiches with a portion of chips, a cafetiere of 'real' coffee, my niece enjoyed her chips followed by a scoop of lemon curd ice cream. The staff were very tentative and looked after us extremely well. Will definitely visit again.

Used a couple of times for coffee and a sandwich. The food isnt bad but it is very expensive for what it is. There are no frills and everything is a little on the basic side.I personally wont use it anymore

We popped in here to have a cup of tea on our journey home from our holiday in the Lake District. I had been to Kettlewell as a child and stayed in the next village and as my husband had never been to the Dales, we took a detour here to have a walk around and stretch our legs. There were other people in the cafe who were eating but we only wanted a cup of tea. This was served almost immediately and we enjoyed 2 cups each - and for the bargain price of £4.40, felt this was good value. The tea rooms also have 2 rooms for rent, offering 4 poster beds, dvd player and baths with jets for those travellers who require it.

This is a small cafe in a rural dales village and it therefore surprises me that the tone of some reviewers suggest that they were expecting haute cuisine and silver service. It is a basic cafe serving basic food and snacks. One of the regular "specials" is ham eggs and chips and we both ordered this for lunch and washed it down with a pot of tea. The ham was tasty and tender and a generous portion size and our eggs were cooked exactly the way we requested them and chips are chips. Overall we were pleased with the quality of the food and have no complaints at all about the service.I think that the prices are slightly more than I would normally expect in a similar type of establishment.Would we visit again? Yes, if all we wanted was a quick and basic lunch otherwise there are 3 pubs in the village offering a wider range of dishes.

Dated decor and a waiter that sang and whistled the same line over and over - enough to drive you bonkers. We both had a cheese and picke sandwich - can't really go wrong with this but the surroundings are tired and not overly clean. Come on! What will people visiting Yorkshire think. If you want to succeed in business you need to try harder.

The cottage tea room in Kettlewell is not great. It is situated across from the car park so easy to access, however the décor and coffee are poor and I would not recommend this as a place to eat.

First off I should say I'm reviewing this as a B&B rather than just the cafe.If you're looking for anonymous 5-star luxury and staff with pressed collars and shiny shoes who call you sir or madam go elsewhere. If you want to feel at home, to feel part of the village for your stay, and are prepared to be friendly, you have found one of the best places to stay in the Dales. We stayed a couple of nights in early September and will absolutely be coming back another time. If you're looking for a proper Yorkshire welcome with friendly but down-to-earth staff and a comfortable no-frills room there's just no point looking any further. The proprietor lives off site. There was nobody staying in the other room so we had the whole place to ourselves. It was refreshing to be trusted with the cafe's ice cream cabinet at chocky display and the Aga downstairs in the kitchen. Talk about the ultimate mini bar!Did we really look that honest? Our 4-poster room looked down the valley a the back of the cafe and the silence in the night was deafening! impossible not to get a good night's sleep. The bathroom had one of those spa baths which was just the job after a day on the hills. We didn't eat in the cafe apart from having a full cooked breakfast both days which was excellent. It was nice to have regular cafe users dropping in during breakfast. And all of this for £135 for the two of us. Incredible value. The friendliness of the village is just the same as the friendliness of the B&B. We went along to the quiz night in the King's Arms. Missed the start of the quiz so we stood at the bar and shared a bit of banter with the landlord who bought us both a drink. The only reason I've given this 5 stars is that there isn't a 6.
