Old style local pub. Friendly landlord and friendly locals. Well worth a visit. Spent a few hours there as early for check-in at holiday cottage. No food served but that suited as time was spent promoting the local vibe.

Called in today for Sunday dinner. Food was excellent and the waitresses were absolutely fantastic. Our daughter has eating issues due to autism and the girl serving us couldn't have been any more helpful, eating out can be awkward for us and you made it a breeze. Friendly guy behind the bar and a really nice clean pub with a good atmosphere. We will definitely go back again.

Ate here in the evening after booking in at a local B&B. Told on arrival at about 7pm there would be an hour wait for food but this turned out to be more like 45 minutes. Food was individually cooked and worth waiting for with good sized portions. Service efficient and friendly. I would say that this is a pub with food rather than a gastro type pub. You are seated close to a lively bar area and on the evening of our visit part of the eating area was being cleared in preparation for a soul disco. Nevertheless an enjoyable and entertaining experience!

We stopped there one evening for some food after a big walking day. After reading a few reviews mentioning the steak pie, we both ordered it and loved it! The sauce is so rich it’s almost like jelly. And no salt or pepper police in that kitchen, it was full of flavour! We ordered dessert but they weren’t great... This place is packed full of locals, the food is cheap and the pie is to die for. The service was good and the staff friendly. I still give it 4* for the atmosphere and the steak pie.

A late Saturday lunch; horse racing on one telly, golf on another, lots of locals propping up the bar, flags, posters, dart board, pool table, trophies and an amiable land lord, just how a pub should be. Amazing food ridiculously cheap and charming table service. No credit cards so go with some cash but you won't need a lot. Our bill was under £13 and included extra prawns and chips, home made and piping hot. One small gripe, the table was sticky so I spread my napkin and used that as a table cloth. There are lots of little steps and slopes, but the knowledgeable and friendly clientele will keep an eye out for you as do the staff, and there are plenty of tables "on the flat".And there is outdoor seating..

A group of us were staying close to the Cottage Inn and decided to give it a try for a pub dinner.Three draught beers on tap but the 'nice one' had run out before our second round and we were stuck with Doombar. The menu looked typical pub food which we were happy with but the food was at best average - and in today's competitive market, you expect much better than an average meal. Huge pile of food, which I suppose you can't complain about but we would have been happy for less but served more attractively. The chips had been shown to the hot fat but not for long enough. No excuse for not cooking chips long enough - to at least give the skin some colour. Rest of the food was OK but we wouldn't recommend it.Bar was very busy so the locals must like the beer. Drinks went down well especially with the real ale drinkers and the chap behind the bar was knowledgable and happy to share his expertise. Us ladies shared a nice bottle of Sauvignon which was very good value. We couldn't believe the prices of the food, most mains (it could be all) under £10 so we didn't expect much, how wrong we were. We eat in this pub when visiting our family in the village, always found the landlord and staff so friendly and helpful. The meals always come hot and are very large portions, all the meals are cooked fresh and you might have to wait a bit if the pub is busy. If you want a good meal very reasonably priced i can recommend the Cottage.

Visitied this pub for lunch. It was a lovely place and my families food looked very nice. Only issue was that it had literally NO gluten free food which is a shame. They couldn't do me any jacket potatoes even. The soup even had gluten in and this is the first place I have been to that I could have literally nothing but a salad.I have given it 3 stars though because they were very friendly and made the salad nice with egg and ham etc and you could tell the effort was there.I just believe there is a need to be ready for gluten intolerance with at least a jacket potatoe. We don't ask for much!

Always had good meal s here been a few times now it is dog friendly need to let them know when you book and advise you do as it gets very busy. Can get crowded and not comfy if near pool table would be good if they didn't let people play when food being served. Not sure on lunch time service evening is 6pm.

Waited over an hour for food, when it arrived it was very average hard to believe it was cooked to order. A very half hearted apology from the staff seemed more bothered about catching up on local gossip. If you have mobilty problems be aware this is a very old building with sloping floors and some steps!!

This is s small village pub that serves excellent food, particularly the steak pie. The restaurant is very small though and one does feel a little penned in if it's busy which it nearly always is. Good service, bubbling atmosphere, recommend a visit.

great steak pie with three vegetables and nice gammon and egg dish. The place was full of locals and that was a good sign that the food was good and it was. Dogs allowed inside but sat outside the front of the pub on 4/5 picnic benches that were there. Worth a visit if you are in the area

Dropped in with family for lunch. Quite busy, friendly and ordered pub food, chips etc.Over an hour for fairly basic food- the children were not impressed. On the verge of leaving just as food appeared.Would not want to go back.

After local recommendations we visited this Inn for Sunday dinner. What can I say...boiled to distruction cabbage and carrots, roast beef tough, I am sorry but will not return. It was reasonably busy and I got the feeling that they were loyal locals with a group of girls starting their 'hen' party and everyone knowing each other. We got a table next to the fish tank the pump in the tank was not working as the plug was not in properly and one Fish was dead and two others ready to die, plus I could smell the dirty tank. The staff were friendly however and the food cheaply priced but not for us.

Had Sunday carvery as no other menu available on a Sunday. The meal was ok but it felt like the meat had been sliced when cold and not reheated just the gravy on the plate to heat it up. 3 different veg and 2 types of potatoe. The stuffing balls were lovely. You could order any combination of the 3 meats. I had pork and beef. The meat was very lean. We ordered the apple crumble as there was no lemon meringue left and it was rather dry with not enough custard. We asked for 2 glasses of tap water. When we started to drink them they were very unpleasant with a chemical taste. The landlord immediately exchanged them for tap water as the water had come from one of the pumps on tap. He said he would be contacting the pump company immediately. I can't fault his handling of the situation. The seats outside were very busy and the staff very pleasant. We will try a weekday next time when in the area for a more varied menu.

We arrived on holiday, late, hungry and tired. Decided to pop in for a meal. It was a busy night, but staff were so helpful, friendly and accommodating. Everywhere was lovely and clean and the food was tasty, hot, good value and good portions. Would recommend!

We came here last night for a meal and was one of the best home cooked meals I ever had. The staff were so lovely and we even got to play some darts before our food came!

What a find! This has been the loveliest meal we have had this year. The food is beautiful, my husband had haddock and loved it. I had rib of beef and it was just delightful some of the best food I have had. The landlord was super lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were lovely and attentive but not over bearing. The menu gives lots of choice and there is a brilliant gin menu. They are dog friendly too so we all had a wonderful time- thank you. We have booked up for Sunday lunch when we are next on holiday over here. I couldn’t recommend this place enough
