The Cottage Inn in Bristol, City of

Over the past few years we have always been accommodated very well at the Cottage Inn, however… Last Friday we booked a table on site at the bar for Sunday lunch, two persons and four dogs, at 2:15pm, booth in the corner. When the confirmation email came through it said 4:30pm…. Went back in on the Saturday and the manager said “Sorry, must have been a mistake, we can do 3:30pm, nothing available earlier…”. We double-checked it was the same table and she confirmed. We agreed, no problem. Turned up on Sunday 3:30pm, went to our table which had a sign on it “reserved 15:30 4 people”. We assumed it was ours so sat down ready to order. The manager then came up to us and said that we couldn’t sit there as it was reserved for four people. We were to go on a high table with the four dogs. When we said we booked it two days ago and we even came in the next day to confirm time and table, she was adamant that we could only have the high table, and she insisted she never said it would be the booth in the corner… Suffice to say we left feeling very disgusted. Where has customer service gone in this country? It was a nice, warm, sunny Sunday afternoon. Lots of people around looking for food and drinks. Is it just greed that makes people treat customers like that???

Decent Sunday roast on a very busy afternoon.

Had a lovely evening meal and drinks at The Cottage Inn in Bristol. The food was delicious and the service could not have been better. Every member of staff that spoke to us was pleasant, attentive and patient when we couldn't make our minds up! A great place and a beautiful outlook on to the water too. Heartily recommend.

A waterside gem, really good value, excellent dining experience

We came for Sunday lunch and the whole experience was good overall. The roast beef was not the most tender and succulent beef we have ever had but all the vegetables and the gravy were delicious. The service was excellent and the pub always has a good atmosphere. We feel that this was probably a “one off” with the beef and that we were just unlucky. We will return

Very convenient for the soon to be gone Caravan and Motorhome site next door. Dog friendly, good food, good beer. Unfortunately we encountered an unmuzzled bully type dog with a couple of younger drinkers in the pub which was rather worrying. Fish and chips were very nice although I can’t see why they try to levy a 10% service charge. It’s a small pub on the quayside in west Bristol, not a high end establishment!

We went for lunch as part of a visit to Ss Great Britain. Overall Great meal with super views. Only slight issue was that we were a bit squashed in on table 8 but the bonuses very much outweighed this.

I really enjoyed the experience at "The Cottage Inn" the Meal I had was delicious "Fishcakes, Leek, Egg and Chips" I had a great view of the Docks where I was sitting and the Staff were friendly too, thank you! 😋 🍽 👍

Having been disappointed with the food the last time we ate here, today we took an ad hoc chance and went in for lunch. The food was delish for all 4 of us. Fab menu and very lovely food. Lovely service. Oh! And Butcombe Wednesday 25% off with my loyalty card! Bonus! Glad we went back! Muscles were amazing. OH said sausages were delish and friends had Calamari and a side of chips which were excellent. 👏

Just had lunch at The Cottage Inn; I had fish and chips followed by sticky date pudding The wife had the gammon followed by the brownie pudding Both meals and puddings were excellent served by pleasant attentive staff. Would recommend really really enjoyable meals and drinks. Thank you to all the staff at The Cottage Inn Bristol!

Free Parking, Dog Friendly, The Welcome, The AMAZING Staff & Service, View, location & Vibe was all fantastic. Wellington, Roast Beef & Pork were all delicious. Vegetables were lovely but the roast potatoes & Yorkshire puddings were not great. Portions were a tad small for the price. Dessert & Guinness were fab. The fish and chips looked amazing. We would return because of the gorgeous team working there.

Four of us old friends met up for lunch here. A friendly welcome from Harry and the rest of the team. A good choice of drinks and a good menu, plenty of options without being OTT. All the food was delicious and well presented. Service was relaxed as they got really busy on a cold, grey day. This pace suited us just fine. We had time to chat and get another drink in.

An excellent meal, looked after by a brilliant member of staff. A lovely pub.

What a wonderful small friendly cosy pub. Great food and service. We will be back. And we did come back, great as last time. Unfortunately as the motorhome site next door is closing we probably will not be able to visit again as there is no other camp sites in the area. Really enjoyed the pub.

Came here especially for burns night menu (having booked a table) but when we arrived there was a mix up with our booking and were told it was pre order only for the burns night special menu. It would have been easy for them to just apologise but the manager was great and worked with the kitchen to see what they could offer us. Had a great meal and our haggis fix - great service

Superb, the homemade proper pie was incredible, with quality way above what we were expecting, so hats off to everyone at this great little pub.

This was one of the first laces I experienced in Bristol 6 years ago and it is always a joy to visit. This was my first time actually eating in the pub and I had Sunday roast which was absolutely fantastic (and the horseradish was particularly tasty). My friend had the curry which was nice, but not really anything to write home about. Maybe would have been nice to have a little mango chutney or something to lift it a bit. We also shared the sticky date pudding - jeez. So good. The staff are always super friendly and helpful and the place has a lovely warming atmosphere. Thank you all!

A nice small cosy pub with a choice of local ales and European beers. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Always a pleasure eating at the Cottage Inn with friendly service and delicious food. Unfortunately there were a few things not available on the Monday we went, which was disappointing. But we still enjoyed it!

Cosy. Nice selection of drinks. Had a coffee and a bullet bourbon. Didn't eat. Shame most tables are reserved for food now, meaning less places to sit as a walk in, however I was directed to a lovely table by a roaring fire by a very nice member of the bar staff. Staff are genuinely friendly. I was even given a complimentary biscuit with my coffee.

As always, a terrific lunch at The Cottage. In particular, exceptional service from Oliver who was behind the bar and has served us on a previous visit also.

Had the loveliest New Year's Day meal at the Cottage this year! The food was delicious (everyone should try the lamb merguez scotch egg), the service impeccable - they are dog friendly and the staff was super helpful and lovely especially Hannah, Harry and Ollie - thanks for looking after us so well. Great way to start 2025 !!

A really lovely late lunch for a group of 8 of us. The team at the cottage were super accommodating, attentive service throughout the meal and we were never left waiting for drinks or food. Scotch Egg and Sausage and Mash were brilliant, proper pub food, the Sticky Toffee Pudding was incredible! Real ale on draft and a lovely wine list, would absolutely recommend this cosy pub on the harbour side. Thanks Hannah, Ollie and Harry for looking after us so well.

Very warm welcome comfortable surroundings, But we wanted the smaller fish and chips, was told fish arrived very small (bite size) and larger fish reasonable size, so paid large fish prices for 2 reasonable sized. I was a little confused. But didn’t want to make a fuss it was my birthday.

I visited the Cottage Inn a couple of weeks before Christmas and enjoyed its festive vibe a lot. It has such a lovely and welcoming atmosphere and is located in a truly beautiful spot! The staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I was thrilled to find out the Cottage Inn offers a dedicated gluten-free batter for their fish, and I must say GF fish and chips tasted really good!

The Sunday roast at The Cottage Inn, set in the picturesque Bristol Harbour, is a true treat. With fresh, high-quality ingredients, tender meat, perfectly seasoned vegetables, and crispy roast potatoes, every bite is delicious. I visited with friends for a pre Christmas catch up. The food was exceptional, I would say it is a restaurant quality rather than pub. The atmosphere was lovely and festive. We really liked sitting next to the fireplace. What is worth mentioning, it's one of the few places where you can eat a very good gluten free meals, like GF fish and chips and desserts. Highly recommend.

First class food as always. Bit of a mix up with the booking as we were able to book a time after the kitchen was due to close. Unfortunately we were slightly late for our table but despite this the staff were professional, polite and food was served to the usual high standard. Previously there has been a slightly more festive feel to Christmas eve at the cottage but it felt a little more down beat this year.

Visited on a very busy night when Bristol Rugby were playing at home so the pub was rammed full yet the staff couldn’t be more helpful and friendly and did an awesome job. The food was great as was the atmosphere so we will be heading back soon.

The haddock is the best fish and chips that I've ever tried. I went to some places in England and I'd say this is the best one. The batter(made by rice flower) is very thin and crispy, and the hadoock itself is fantastic. All of us appreciate the taste of the fish and I highly recommend fish and chips lover to have a try.

Went for lunch on Xmas eve. Good food, good service, the beer was also good as ever....rare breed. It is a nice walking distance from home. Took by sister in law from Spain , she was impressed by the pie of the day, turkey, ham and leek.

The staff were very welcoming right from the staff. There was a good choice of food to cover most requirements. The food arrived promptly and was absolutely delicious. All choices met expectations and were thoroughly enjoyed. Couldn’t fault anything about the evenings

We've always enjoyed visiting the Cottage when staying at Baltic Wharf Caravan Club site. Never had a bad experience - make sure you book early. Shame Baltic Wharf site closing means we'll rarely be able to visit again.

Just been in this bar to get a Coffee after a lovely walk from Clifton Bridge on a lovely Sunday Afternoon. I ordered 2 coffees from a middle aged plump lady behind the bar who sounded like she was chewing a wasp. My goodness it was like I'd asked where I could buy some crack. The attitude on her was awful. I understand using a coffee machine takes slightly longer than a diet coke but boy does that lady need some customer service training.

A wonderful Christmas lunch hosted for my work team of 16. The service was excellent, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere warm and relaxed. Amazing delicious Chocolate Brownies. Highly recommend!

Great location, and highly recommend for a stop off if doing a loop around the harbour. The food was nice, and the staff were so welcoming - really went out of their way to accommodate a small baby. Pub was very cosy and Christmassy, too.

Great roast - just a shame they only allow 1.5 hours - not really long enough for 2 courses and a drink let alone 3. Therefore end of meal spoilt by being rushed out - which happened to many tables around us. 2 hours needed .

Our favourite pub when visiting Bristol, friendly and helpful staff and a good varied menu to suit most tastes. Quality of the food has always been excellent in our experience. Well worth joining the loyalty club.

Lovely Pub on the harbour side.

Really lovely place to eat and drink. We were there at 3:30 for Sunday lunch, not too busy but service was quite laid back. Desserts were amazing.

Our second visit here for Sunday lunch, great Yorkshire puddings and welsh rarebit. Staff are super friendly and welcoming. And a lovely pint of Butcombe.

Food good had the pie, asked for chips got mash. Said not to worry, got chips as well. Wife had gammon gluten and dairy alergies no problem

We came here on Sunday for a Roast. To be honest our expectations weren’t that high as it was the only pub that could get us in before 5pm last minute. I’ve been plenty of times for drinks in the Summer but have never been for food until Sunday. We were thoroughly impressed. Service was warm and attentive from the moment we walked in the door. The staff clearly like their job and each other and it shows - and that adds to the experience for me personally. The roast was very good - it didn’t blow me away necessarily but I ate all of it, I was satiated by the end and I thought it was good value. We had a great table with comfy seating; warm, dim lighting and plenty of room. The staff let us stay for hours, playing the board games they had stacked up in the corner. We completely forgot about the storm outside!

Lovely food and service and so dog friendly

This was our first time here for many years. We received a nice welcome and a table by the open fire. The place was warm and cosy and very busy. Everyone seemed to be in good spirits. The food was excellent - fish and chips and beef burger - and the selection of drinks was good, too. The prices were fair and reasonable for the offering and the staff was pleasant and friendly. We look forward to a return visit. Thank you!

I am lucky enough to come here every year as I stay at the caravan club site next door. The food is always good and staff friendly and my dog gets treated like a star. Make sure you book as it gets very busy.

Customer service excellent cannot fault that. Only down point was the very cold blasts of air from the door as Customer's came in and out of the door..

Used to love going there when I lived in Bristol

Really lovely pub by the waterfront. My burger was excellent, hot, and didn’t fall apart like most burgers do! My mum said her roast beef was also lovely - roasts in pubs can sometimes be a bit hit or miss, but this one was very good! She’s a celiac, so asked if she could swap the Yorkshire pudding for extra potatoes. The food came without the Yorkie, but there were sadly no extra potatoes. That’s the only negative from our experience - everything else was great.

Great food and beer. Friendly staff and good service. Loved the location between the Cumberland basin and the Bristol Marina.

We booked a table and what service we got as soon as we walked in followed by excellent food and of course all that complimented the superb atmosphere. Thank you!

Reserved a lunchtime table for a family meet, worked out really well. We shared a couple of plates of calamari as a starter, they were very good. Mains were 3 steak and ale pies, delicious was mentioned, and a burger, also very tasty. Washed down with a couple of bottles of the pinotage. A great way to spend a couple of hours.

Everything was really good. If we had to clutch at straws we would say the pumpkin pie filling could do with more flavour. Fish strew was amazing.
