Disappointed, over priced. My partner opted for English breakfast at £12.50. Two bacon, one egg, grilled tomatoes and small amount of mushrooms, one toast and coffee. For the price I would have expected more mushrooms a hash brown and some beans and a sausage, shouldn't be called an English breakfast and not include sausage. Waitress did swap one bacon for a sausage but that should have been included.

Me and my mum booked a table for the Christmas lunch on the 17th. My mum had a turkey dinner with all the trimmings and a lemon mousse to finish off. I had a cheese muffin stacked with black pudding, bacon, a poached egg and hollandaise sauce, followed by a tiramisu. Both meals were absolutely gorgeous. Great service and I loved the crackers on the table. I took those home to pull with my son. Thank you so much for a lovely lunch. We will be back to do it again.

We love The Cottage, have been coming for years and never done a review. There is nothing better than coming here at the weekend for a good breakfast, they offer more custom or specialist breakfasts rather than just a full English. I'd recommend the Meat Feast or Works, these are the best breakfast going...anywhere...I've never found a better place. The price is good for the items, and the produce is locally sourced and delicious. The service is always relaxed and puts you at ease from the moment you walk in. Came across this cafe whilst visiting Frodsham (a nice market town) with my wife. We were both pleasantly surprised with the good menu choice. We had open toasted sandwiches and home made scones - both were delicious. The cafetiere coffee was excellent as well. We nearly didn't go in as the "smallish" room was full but one of the locals told us that there was a conservatory area down a small passage and - if the weather is fine - further tables in a garden area. They are missing trade by not advertising this better.Definitely on our "return to" list.

They opened up the conservatory for us and they were SO WELCOMING AND FRIENDLY. We spent about three hours in there enjoying the full English breakfast which is wonderful value and includes toast and tea or coffee. Then later some had cake and another coffee. The food is EXCELLENT AND REASONABLY PRICED. Children are welcome too. You would have quite a struggle to find better. The lunches are great too. Why not have a visit and enjoy the moment. This is an update on my previous review - following that review I was contacted by the manager who wanted to make matters right. Three of us visited yesterday. The only negative comment (hence the four stars) refers to the same waitress that was so rude to us in October: she accosted my friend and I as we were walking to the conservatory where we had a table booked and very rudely told us that there wasn't space for two at the back - she didn't greet us, say hello or anything, nor did she ask whether we had booked a table or whether anyone else was joining us. She really was very offputting.Apart from that, everything was lovely. The lady who served us in the conservatory was warm and friendly and very welcoming. We ordered our breakfasts, preferences were accommodated without question (which is much appreciated as another local restaurant won't) and in fact asked for, indeed when my friend didn't want one item she was invited to choose an alternative. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the coffees they served and very helpful. Service was efficient and pleasant without being overbearing and despite being busy there was no pressure to leave, we were able to enjoy our meals and coffees for as long as we wanted.Breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious: it consisted of bacon, egg, tomato, and toast - more than adequate for me.It was an altogether very different and much better experience! Thank you Cottage!!

Strange to find so many good reviews. I think the last couple of reviews are more correct regarding poor staff. I visited this cafe with my mother and daughter to have lunch. Last time I visited must be over 10 yrs ago. Quite disappointed compared to how it used to be. Salad that came with our food was very basic just a bit of lettuce with 1 slice of cucumber with 1 piece of tomato. Tea was a small pot for two compared to other cafes. The main thing which I didn’t like was the unfriendliness of the staff. The lady serving us didn’t even attempt to give us menus then came straight over for order when I got menus myself! She had an off manner and then walked off. The lady in the kitchen who I paid also had an off manner. She actually over charged me but couldn’t be bothered telling her, just won’t be rushing back!! I think they need to learn a bit about the hospitality business. Think they only do decent business because it looks nice and there aren’t many cafes in Frodsham.

It has been changed round recently and seating has slightly improved. The prices are average and the only thing I could say is the staff could be friendlier!! As closing time approaches customers were walking in and abruptly being told " we are not doing food! ". People were just walking out and I thought..... What impression are you giving. If management is reading this - your cafe is lovely but perhaps you could spend a little time with your staff on customer service.

We had a light lunch from their quite large menu, it's all quite simple stuff, nothing fancy - sandwiches, jacket potatoes, things on toast, breakfasts. Hubby had the large breakfast which he enjoyed, though at £7 it was a little pricey for the quality. I chose smoked salmon and scrambled egg off the special board, only to be told they'd sold out, so instead had the soup and sandwich at £7 again. The stilton and mushroom soup was really tasty and the tuna mayo sandwich was nice, though a little let down by the dry browning bits of salad on the side. We both enjoyed the mugs of hot chocolate. The only let down really was the waitress who could have been friendlier and made us feel a bit rushed. The décor is a bit tired but otherwise OK. Good spot for a simple light lunch.

We are frequent visitors to the cottage tea shop. The breakfasts are superb and the afternoon tea is wonderful and great value at under £8 per head. I would recommend the coronation chicken sandwiches with a slice of the toffee & ginger cake. These come served on a caddy with salad and crisps and a pot of tea.If you want a light bite the cheesy crumpets are a favourite, the cheese is all golden and they melt in your mouth. We love this place so much that we visit before we go on long journeys ie. last year we went to ladies semi finals day at Wimbledon and went for an afternoon tea here before we caught the train, as you would not get this value for money in London. It's in such a great location within the town and the staff are lovely.Although it looks small from the outside there is additional seating in the conservatory at the back and tables to sit outside when the weather is nice.

The café was decked out in flags, bunting, poppies and vintage posters from the era; all the staff were dressed in 40s theme and there was suitable war-time music being played quietly, which gave the place a lovely atmosphere. We were seated in the conservatory at the back because the main part was full. We actually preferred the conservatory area, which was brighter and airier that the front of the café. We thought there was a good choice on the menu, with some interesting lunch options. I had a mango and stilton rarebit with salad (and extra bacon), which was delicious and I savoured every mouthful. My partner ordered Welsh rarebit, but they had sold out unfortunately and so he went for cheese surprise instead with apple and ham. We had lattes with our meal but ended up staying longer to enjoy some cake / dessert and a pot of tea for two. The place was relaxing, the food excellent at not too bad a price and all the staff seemed friendly and helpful. We were in no hurry to leave and will definitely be returning on our next trip to Frodsham.

Called in for a quick bite to eat with my sister. The food was very nice, well cooked and very tasty. Delivered to the table quickly. Portion size could be a little larger but nice nonetheless. It was a little expensive considering what we had. Bacon, egg and black pudding on toast and a ham and cheese sandwich with just one drink - a very nice latte - and was over £13.00. Menu could be made clearer and is a bit confusing in some areas. Separate listings for 'On toast', 'Toasted', 'Toasties'. Tomato ketchup was clearly a cheap brand. Very vinegar taste and very thin but my only real criticism. Had some lovely looking cakes on display but I didn't have the time to indulge. I would recommend and I enjoyed my lunch.

Rode into Frodsham looking for somewhere to rest and refuel and this place was just what I needed . Table & chair outside so I could keep an eye on my bike and afternoon tea or coffee with a sandwich and a slice of cake ... Perfect Friendly waitress took my order , no scones so I had to settle for a fresh Raspberry sponge cake . Presently surprised when I food was delivered to my table . I scoffed the lot 10/10 only disappointment they never had Wifi . I'll be Back

Local quirky tea room on the main street in Frodsham. I visited with my Mum for afternoon tea using a 2 for 1 voucher from PG tips. We booked a table as it gets busy. We had a sandwich of choice and scones with cream and jam. I had lovely Earl Grey and my Mum had a latte coffee. Food was nicely served on a tiered plate. It was great value for money and the food was freshly prepared and rather tasty. We are returning to have lunch again soon. Lovely introduction to this popular little tea room.

We called for coffee and cake at about 3.10 pm on Thursday. While the refreshments were very good, unfortunately we found the service was very poor - no 'please' or 'thank you' or 'would you like anything else?' The server was almost rude. It was only when staff started cleaning up around us and we asked if they were closing that we realised that they closed early on Thursday. If they had mentioned this when we arrived, we would have gone elsewhere.

This is a splendid tea room. The menu is varied and has unusual dishes. Their Full English Breakfast' is first class. I had spicy mushrooms on toast which was very good. The ambience and interior is very pleasant and is all a village tea room should be. Highly recommended.

Always a lovely meal here and the cakes are wonderful; big slices too! Staff are friendly and if the small tea shop at front is busy I recommend seeing if the conservatory and courtyard at the back are open.

I have eaten here several times and it has always been tasty and good value. On my most recent visit I had a cafetiere of Colombian coffee (at least 4 cups) for less than the price of one drink at a nearby national chain. I also had a substantial slice of Red Velvet cake which I can wholeheartedly recommend. The menu is extensive and varied, so you can always find something suitable. There are a few tables on the pavement outside which are very pleasant on a sunny day.

Called in to this quaint little Tea Rooms which has a unique history, which is written on the back of the menu. don't be put off if it looks full as there is more room in a conservatory at the back. We ate in the Conservatory and the waitress greeted us with a happy smile and gave us good service throughout. Some tasty dishes on the menu. I had the Hot Tuna, cheese and onion on thick Bread with a mug full of Horlicks. Very Tasty.

Birthday treat for afternoon tea. Put us in a room on our own so I asked to be moved to sit with everyone else dining...which they did. Sandwiches brought out on saucer sized plate then another plate with cakes and scones. I asked why not served on 3 tier cake stand as she gave some poor excuse as to cakes might melt so they don't use them hower other diners had them! They forgot to bring the strawberries and cream and champagne we ordered. Waitress was moody and unhelpful and we had to go into bar for a cocktail as they were now shutting!! Huge amount of money for poor food and service. Never been back!

The Woodland is close to Ellemere Port Hospital and serves for much of the day. Usual "Stonehouse" fayre. Very pleasant member of staff who checked for allergies and carried our drinks to our table as I am dodgy on my feet. We took advantage of the offer of two meals for £11.75 from a reduced menu. Pleasant food, but nothing special, except the price.

We went here for food as the brewers fayre is closed for refurbishments at the premier inn we were staying at. The food was terrible, if it wasn't for us being starving after a full day at Chester zoo we wouldn't have eaten it. Wasn't expecting top of the notch food for the price but was definitely expecting much better than what was served. Everything looks to have come out the same deep fat fryer which seemed could do with a oil change, one of my children's starters was veg sticks which were so dry and looked like they'd been prepped the week before, the others a "garlic bread starter" was two slices off a cheap garlic baguette. The staff were lovely and the place was clean so probably a great place for a drink, just wouldn't return again food.
