We always stay here when in town. It’s an awesome place to stay and really deserves its 5 star rating. Never had the chance to try their Michelin restaurant due to the days we stay but all the others are great so one only imagines what their best in like. The hotel is central for the shops and street life. Hard to see how to improve on this one quite frankly. Go there and see for yourself.

Greatly disappointed with the service, table set for two when booked for three and had to ask to have the table set properly. We were not asked if we required side orders with the main meal and hadn't realise that we should. {I would expect to be prompted/asked.}Whilst we ordered/waited for vegetables the main meal was left to go cold on the table instead of being returned to the kitchen to keep warm. Portions were tiny! delicious {if a tad cool at this point} but even by fine dining standards, ludicrously small. The desserts also lacked a satisfying quantity. This was a Christmas lunch and I would have expected a satiating amount especially for the price. OK the ingredients and chef are likely top notch but having dined in equally respected establishments, portions were still too small! Staff were accommodating and polite, environment impeccable and stylish but there was a distinct lack of attention to detail.

Dinner for 4 on Saturday 21st October. Nice setting but the restaurant lacked real atmosphere, it was far too quite for a Saturday night and had many empty tables. The food is good quality, albeit the portion size of the blue cheese starter was dismally small as was the portions of veg. The heritage carrots at £5, worked out at £1 per half carrot! and the cabbage about £1 per teaspoon!! The service was very poor. The staff offered no advice on the food and lacked any personality, with the exception of Ben, who was very good. The rest frankly need much training. Drinks arrived but the staff had to be asked to remove empties, we had to remind the staff that veg was supposed to arrive with the main courses. A bottle of wine was delivered, but no tasting offered and only once during the meal did the staff pour the wine. No sign of a good restaurant manager. Ironically the bill includes a 12.5% service charge. We couldn’t justify paying that! We had dined the night before at Next Door in Frodsham, the contrast in quality, friendliness and knowledge of the staff couldn’t have been greater. Next Door 5 star, the Brasserie at the Chester Grosvenor, well 3 service star is generous. The Chester Grosvenor must improve their service to justify the prices and inclusive service charge.

Visited the bar. Nice space and a good selection of bar nibbles (oysters!) and an extensive wine/spirits menu. The service, however, was discombobulated. Staff were friendly, but the bartender did not know his menu. Moreover, staff did not listen well. (Was sat at the bar for nibbles and champagne, only to find you can’t eat nibbles at the bar, you must sit at a table.) Once sat at my table it took about 10-12 minutes for a staff member to come take my order, even though there were only 5 people in the bar and 4 staff huddled together talking and looking in my direction/making eye contact with me. The food was very good and, again, the environ is quite nice. Still, if this place wants to be truly as high-end as it presents itself, they should work to refine their training and model of service.

Bruk enjoyed a macaroni and pancetta bake We started with Olives , Cashew Nuts and Artisan breads and washed it down with crisp and dry bottle of Reisling The only thing that stops me awarding 5 * to this 5* establishment is the limited menu choice, three dishes ! Disappointed as it seems like a ploy to get you to spend more. £17.50 for a glass of champagne is also overpriced. Steak ok but not as flavoursome as should be. Bernaise sauce cold. Style over substance. We used to be regulars at The Grosvenor, a bit of a trek for us but we always thought it worth the effort. Went to lunch to celebrate a centenary recently. The food was of a "good" standard but very over priced for what it was. Our Hungarian waitress was engaging as was the Maitre d' but there was a palpable lack of interest from the other waiting staff. If the speed with which the eye of a waiter can be caught is a mark of quality then this was a fail. We have had much better meals and service here and hope to maybe have again in the future.

We found the hotel to be excellently situated for looking round Chester and visiting the attractions. Our room was a superior Room with a king sized bed that was definitely a super king and was massive and very comfortable; we didn't want to get out of it! We really felt like we were at home in our room and the little touches such as the turn down service where bottles of water were left for when we returned were much appreciated. The hotel itself was grand and felt luxurious. Breakfast was continental and was very nice; we paid extra for full English so it actually cost about £30 each for breakfast. Breakfast was waiter served which meant you couldn't go and choose what you wanted from a buffet. The toast, and Danish pastries were both cold and my husband complained that his coffee wasn't very hot either so that was a bit of a disappointment. The shopping centre car park is attached to the hotel and we had discounted parking for £8.50 per day. This is a very expensive hotel with the extras such as a minibar spirit costing £10 and a juice £3.50 for a small bottle. It was certainly a nice place to stay for a rare treat.

Stayed as a couple on Sunday evening and ate in The Brasserie. From checking in to checking out which takes seconds everything was first class. Lots of staff means a very attentive approach and no waiting for anything. Food was excellent both in the evening and the cooked breakfast also. In all a great hotel and restaurant. Very highly recommended and we will be back.

Just walking in off the street I was not sure if we'd get a table but we were instantly seated. As this was a birthday treat I had a Ginger Mojito which was amazing (they certainly know how to make cocktails here). I was unsure of the sandwich selection as I'm not a lover of fish however, they were happy to change some of the fillings. My husband had fish & chips. The food was lovely.I was pleasantly surprised at the cost as well (the drinks were more than the food!)I'd say the only downside was the time we had to wait to have our order taken and to get the bill.Think I will come here every year for my birthday!

Lovely hotel slightly let down by its breakfast..each morning the toast and croissants were bought before your breakfast and were always cold, I requested that they were warmed up but again they were bought back before we were served our hot breakfast. We pairs £9 extra on top of the included continental breakfast for the hot breakfast but it really wasn't worth that amount. Room lovely but again the room was big and the TV was small, which made it difficult viewing. Nice toiletries and robes and slippers.

I visited the Grosvenor with colleagues for an afternoon tea, to spend some time together. We booked well in advance and, given the hotel's reputation, we're looking forward to the meal. On arriving we were seen to our table in good time and made comfortable. However, the poor service began instantly. I will caveat this by saying that I don't expect to be waited on hand and foot and my expectations are set by the price and the setting. The Grosvenor is grand and the price is high and so I, quite reasonably, in my view, set my expectations high. It took a good while for our drinks orders to be taken, a good while for those drinks to arrive. Food ordering took a while, the orders were not correct when they arrived, which also took some time. While we were eating we were largely left to it and there was little in the way of follow up or checking on us. When and if we wanted more, we had to attract attention. Refills and more drinks took some time to arrive. I can't complain about the food. When it arrived, it was lovely. However, afternoon tea is an experience and this experience is one I felt we were constantly chasing from inattentive staff. I hope it was an off day because with good service this could easily be four stars.

We returned for a four night stay for my partners birthday and found the experience to be 5* plus! The hotel really is a sanctuary of peace and quiet, with top notch food and service. All the elements, such as the welcome, checkin, dinner at the Simon Radley, turndown service.....well I could go on and on but suffice to say we had a wonderful time. Checking our calendars for the next visit. Thanks to all the team but Kevin and Harry were super.

Came here to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary and had a meal in the Bistro. Wasn't sure what to expect as although I'm from chester I had never been in. I have to say the staff were so lovely and polite. My Dad was in a wheelchair and they really did all they could to help. On top of that the food was absolutely incredible. I'll be back for sure.

Another return visit to this very elegant hotel which is smack bang in the centre of beautiful Chester. The service offered from all staff continues to be very high despite the hotel being busy through out our stay. Although more expensive than other hotels in this fantastic city the Chester Grosvenor's central position, well appointed rooms and great staff all add to a great experience.

Have stayed here on a couple of occasions , car parked for you , staff very pleasant and attentive , lovely rooms with a touch on class . Fantastic Mini bar fridge ( with price menu ) & fresh milk for your tea / coffee , turn down service in the evening with bottles of water and fresh towels . Breakfast- table service ; continental with the option of full at an additional price , we have had both options and both very good . Continental option is good - cereals , porridge , fruit & yoghurt, pasties ( very good selection ) tea & coffee . Well worth a stay in the centre of Chester right by the city walls , fantastic place steeped in history wherever you look .

We stayed for one night. Everything you would expect from a 5 star hotel. On arriving back to our room, we found there was water dripping through the ceiling immediately next to a down light. This was a little after midnight. I went straight down to reception and the issue was dealt with swiftly, politely and apologetically. We did have to move rooms which of course was a nuisance especially at that hour, but was the only sensible option and not anyone's fault. However, the room we were moved to was HUGE in fact more like a flat than even a suite and we felt very spoilt. It was only the next morning that we noticed from the plaque outside our entrance door that we had been moved to the Presidential Suite. Breakfast the next morning was excellent. Staff are efficient and of course fairly formal, but again, exactly what I would hope for.

Light bites here are always delicious. Good spot for people watching and never feel uncomfortable dining alone here during a busy shopping expedition in Chester. Always something interesting on offer even for those on a low carbohydrate diet which makes a refreshing change. Despite being busy on a Saturday, I have never felt rushed. A lovely break from the hustle and bustle padding by.

The room was beautiful spacious and tastefully decorated. However the staff have an air of superiority we arrived in two separate cars as my husband pulled up he was greeted by a concierge who said he could only park there if we were staying not really the greeting your expecting on arrival check In was easy enough but we were early so took lunch in the brasserie it needs a dress code it was like a busy day at a garden centre anoraks galore. vegetarian options are very limited. We then went to see the wet area and were advised it was 35.00 per room and we couldn't look at it because people were in. The gym was tiny and no bigger than a box room. At night we ate in the brasserie again and had to ask 3 separate staff about vegetarian options and almost got the impression they were frightened to ask the chef. Breakfast was lame continental but really stingy we had stayed at The Balmoral the month before and it knocked this place into a cocked hat... You order they bring it to the table begrudgingly tiny bowl of muesli they poor the milk everything has to be asked for at this level it should all be laid out cereals, breads, cheeses, meats, smoked salmon, pastries, breads then if you want something different you order it. Went into Arkle the following day and despite numerous empty table was told we might not be able to be served in the end when we said we were residents they basically went over to this little old lady who had her bill and evicted her there were still empty tables when we left. Can't say I would ever want to return but glad I can say we have been

We stayed here on the night of the 20th of Feb 2016 for my 40th birthday celebrations and were not disappointed in the least. What amazing service from start to finish! The attention to detail regarding the guest welcome and departure was like nothing I've ever encountered before. We were fortunate enough to stay in a standard room that had been beautifully refurbished. The shower was amazing - serious water pressure! The mini-bar was well stocked and the prices reasonable. Simply excellent service in the bar and also at breakfast - such friendly and evidently incredibly well trained staff. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
