Family meal for 20 up on the balcony, all meals were well received, good service. Nice place, will go again.

Good as a reasonably high quality local pub. Beers are a bit dull, food is good but nothing spectacular, often go for a pizza.

Myself and my partner went this evening to use a voucher friends had given us for Christmas. We arrived and got seated, ordered food, myself I had a margarita pizza and my partner had a beef burger. My pizza was tasteless, really bland. I have had better pizzas at Prezo and at the Italian Club in Liverpool. My partner’s burger was all ok. Cost was 69.00 without the voucher, with it was £39.00. Not really worth it, and the menu could have been a bit less meaty and a bit more vegetarian, more options to have. Not somewhere we would go again. Oh and there was Only Fools and Horses been played through speakers in the toilets which I thought was really odd!

We had a small, autumn wedding here and we all had a wonderful time. I have to say we were so glad we chose this venue for our special day, it's so rustic and chill and as we hired the whole venue it was a perfect size! The evening staff were all incredible, they were so friendly and went above and beyond for us and our guests, they really worked so hard to ensure we all had a perfect day and we are so thankful for that! Milly and Emily are the wedding planners and they were both really lovely and understood the vibes we were going for, they did a brilliant job with making sure the big day was everything we asked for. I do think however, that although communication with us was easy, it definitely seemed that there was a lack of communication between Milly, Emily, Kitchen and event staff. It seemed things were not being passed on or not communicated properly and misunderstandings did on occasion happen. That is why we have given them 4/5 stars, I would totally recommend this place for a wedding, it really is lovely and so much flexibility to make the big day how you envision it.

Honestly some of the best food I've had at a wedding, the service was brilliant and the staff were fantastic.

We booked for Xmas Day this was our first time at this venue and can only compare what we experienced based on what we have had at other venues on Xmas Day over the years. This place was by far the worst Xmas Dinner we have had. The meal was £95 a head with a 10% service charge on top, I expect to pay a premium on Xmas day as overheads are higher and because you expect Xmas day to be more special and to have a bit of finesse something this meal was missing. The food was not great and the produce was poor, the Turkey was tasteless, so much so that one of my party was convinced it was from a pre portion pack! The whole meal was basic, what we received was lazy the Turkey had a slither of stuffing stuck to it, sprouts , carrots, roast potatoes and pigs in blanket , no parsnips , no red cabbage or any off the extra trimmings I have received at other venues over the years like a glass of Prosecco on arrival or a coffee and mince pie to finish. All in all very disappointing meal. I can recommend better places for Xmas day this venue could learn a lot by looking at what other venues offer. I have had better Sunday lunches at places with more covers so no excuse.

We travelled from north wales and friends travelled from Bolton for a belated Christmas catch up. Never been before to this venue and was not disappointed. Beautiful establishment, clean and tidy. Staff were incredibly friendly.. special thank you to Annabelle who was polite and accommodating. We each ordered three courses. Was a limited menu due to the time of year but we were not disappointed. Hallumi fries were incredible !! All left happy with full bellies.

Xmas day dinner, poor quality ingredients, very dry roast potatoes , processed turkey, only fresh thing on the plate was the sprouts and carrots no other veg, no parsnips, red cabbage to be honest I have had way better Sunday lunch’s which is not good considering it was Xmas day and premium price. The whole meal was lacking finesse which is sad because it was Xmas day and I would like to think they would have gone the extra mile, like all the other places I have gone over the years in the area. I have done this review as I wanted to advise others before booking so they know what to expect I can only think that when this place got awards they had a Chef and not a Cook because I would struggle to see how they would win awards on the standard of food I received. We pre -booked meal choices as requested and picked gluten free options for Son only to be told on the day he couldn’t have the gluten free dessert he chose as they didn’t have it . Best part of the meal was the £120 bottle of Champs which we poured ourselves as no-one came back. The venue itself is lovely but food way below par sad to say. I understand it’s a busy time of year but I am basing my view on all the other places I have gone over the 25 years and the experience and meal I have received at other venues.

We enjoyed our meal but the roast potatoes weren't very crispy. One of the turkey dinners we ordered didn't get the pigs in blanket. We also had to remind the staff to bring the desert menu.

Honest review as I think it’s important for the business. My partner and I use to visit this place a lot , it was always a treat and the food was excellent we’re talking 10 years ago. I decided to book a table for my partner and family. Upon arrival I noticed the atmosphere had lost its sparkle, but we were still keen to order a meal. The meal arrived which was a Sunday beef roast the meal itself looked pleasant but it was seriously lacking any seasoning or the wow factor. When you’re paying just shy of £20 per plate you don’t expect it to be below par. The decor in the toilets is also very run down and feels dirty, considering this place use to be a high end restaurant it’s clinging on for dear life. It needs some care and attention otherwise it’s going to cost you loosing customers. So please take this review and address the issues for the sake of the business. It could be great again ! But for now I won’t recommend or return anytime soon.

Had to wait 40 minutes for food and unfortunately the chicken burger arrived a little over cooked giving it a slightly burnt flavour.

Came here today to celebrate my mum and dad's 50th wedding anniversary. The venue is gorgeous. We were a party of 17. All the food was amazing. The staff were really friendly and attentive. Nobody went without food it was like a military operation! Thank you for helping make the day so special. Highly recommend this establishment. Kind regards Daniel.

Spent £16.50 to get a litteraly burned (as can see by the picture) fried fish. The fish smelled of burned oil!!! That was really disapponting

We had a visit to Rack and Ruin Alpaca sanctuary and thought we would treat us all to some lunch, food was amazing staff were really friendly and informative about the food and wine. Our children had a pizza which looked so nice and they really enjoyed desert. Me and my partner had great starters and mains king tiger prawns were so fresh and tasty also the steak was cooked to perfection. My partner had the pulled shoulder lamb shepherd's pie and said it was the nicest he had ever had. We would definitely visit again.

Was staying nearby. Past and decided to try the service was very good and the food was delicious. I had the Belly Pork to start, and the 10oz Rump Stead as main all cooked to perfection, and they were really tasty.

Went here on Sunday with my girlfriend who made the booking. Food was great, but the service was slow, staff seemed disorganised and over-worked. My partner overheard some of them complaining about the management always changing. This was very evident with no visible management presence.

We had our wedding here in early September and everything was perfect! It was exactly the relaxed vibe we were after, and exceeded all of our expectations. Milly was super helpful, friendly and organised in the run up and the whole team worked really hard on the day to give us and our guests the best day. The food, service and atmosphere were all fab and the lovely weather meant we could enjoy most of the day out in the garden which was an extra bonus! Thanks Milly and team xx

Arrived around 745pm, hoping to eat, but we were told "shortage of staff in kitchen AND we normally stop serving around this time". Really disappointing

We visited The Chesterfields regarding potentially booking the venue for our daughters wedding. The venue is beautiful. We loved everything about it. We had a short meeting with the assistant wedding coordinator who was very pleasant and went through the packages with us. A decision was made to book this venue. However after this meeting we found communication and enthusiasm poor which made us feel uneasy so we have booked a different venue who are going above and beyond. This is ashame as The Chesterfields is a beautiful place.

Beautiful peaceful friendly and warm atmosphere.

I came here with my dad on Monday and had a lovelly lunch. They do a great small steak and french fries for lunch. The venue is stunning. Staff very friendly and helpful

Went for a wedding reception and it was fabulous - food was great (catering for dietary requirements) , staff were very attentive and a great venue.

I had high hopes for the food in this place... Service, pizza, and balsamic vinegar were the only things good about today's experience. We ordered most of the starters from the menu, and everything that could - was soggy. (Litte tip: batter on courgette fritters would be crisper if sliced thinner so they don't hold all that water; seen it before, is doable) Halloumi "fries" were stuck together pile of hot melted cheese and batter. ...and please don't call that white dry bread roll a sourdough bread as it's misleading to the customer. Even Aldi sells better sourdough breads. Just pure disappointment- you meant to be the award winning restaurant. Perhaps that was to do with the venue and service.

Had lunch here today with friends, very slow service. We ordered the pineapple and mango Eton mess which was literally all cream with tinned pineapple, a few crumbs of meringue, very poor, and for £7 we thought it was over priced. We informed the waiter who said he would tell the chef but we heard nothing after that. Disappointed with the service, felt ignored, shame as we won't go back.

I love this place, but please bring back the pizzas everyday. Shame this pub is now focusing on weddings and private functions.

The photos and menu on the website looked great, looks can be deceiving! The restaurant was empty when we arrived and we were informed it was going to be a quiet night, yet the only tables we were offered were by the toilets! As so many of the starters/small plates sounded good, we ordered a selection. When the food arrived we were given a remark of 'hope you're hungry' implying we'd over ordered. It looked good so at the check back 30 seconds later we said it was fine but on further inspection there wasn't a lot there (just everything on a bed of rocket) and everything was not fine. The whitebait, halloumi fries and pigs in blankets were slathered with their accompanying sauces, far too much to enjoy or taste anything other than the sauce. Whilst I'm aware pork belly is fatty, 2 of the 5 small pieces were entirely fat and not crispy as the menu described. The king prawns were tasteless and rubbery and for £12 I expected a lot better. When our plates were removed we weren't asked if we had enjoyed our meal. We were offered deserts which we declined and asked for our bill. Took a while for it to arrive and after waiting to pay for 10 mins we had to go to the bar to find someone to pay with (who was polishing cutlery so not too busy with other customers which I could of understood). Again we were not asked if we had enjoyed our meal/evening, not wished a good evening just shown the card machine. Will not be returning, there are far better places (both food and service wise) at much better prices.

Waited forty minutes for very mediocre food.

Beautiful venue but very very poor Sunday lunch. Hugely disappointing. Cold food, over cooked meat and veg and portion size not good. Quite expensive as Sunday lunch goes and definitely not value for money! Would not go again.

What can we say…… What an absolute amazing day we had at The Chesterfield for our wedding day!! From the moment we walked in 18 months ago until we left at 1am on our wedding night it’s been awesome. We can’t thank you & the team enough for making our day so special. From the set up to the outstanding food, to the friendly & helping staff, amazing!! Every single person that came to celebrate with us has sang your praises! Sam the Dj that came as part of our package was amazing, we had a full dance floor all night!

What a great place! As soon as we arrived we were greeted with a smile by the waiter Paul. He knew his wines! They even had dessert wine! Food was excellent and reasonably prices for cook from fresh. Definitely recommend this place to all.

Main very average to poor. It was a quiet lunchtime but we waited at least 30 mins for 2 of the desserts, other person had finished their coffee a good while before we asked what had happed to the desserts. Do not have the mango and pineappleEton mess no mango or taste of mango. Bowl full of whipped cream with 6 cubes of tin pineapple a very small amount of crushed meringue and small amount of mixed frozen berries. We complained but got no where or compensation for the wait. Wish we had cancelled desserts. The waiter was too, too friendly. We think he was trying to be funny but it didnt work. None of us will be returning.

Booked a table for 6 today Father’s Day No roast meal options left which was the reason for booking I could understand running out of one or two options but all were sold out Children were also disappointed as there choice from children’s menu not available One meal was forgotten and arrived much later Food served was not great ordered a gammon with salsa came with plain pineapple again sorry we’ve run out Ver poor show for what should have been a special family day. Complete waste of time and money , such a shame as we have had good experience in the past, hence why we chose this venue Very disappointed

We had our small wedding for 16 guests on the mezzanine level at the Chester Fields on Sunday and I can't recommend it enough. The venue is beautiful and in a lovely rural location very close to Chester town centre. Milly our wedding coordinator and all the staff on the day were brilliant, and the food was delicious.

We had our wedding here on 08.06.24 and we could not be happier. Milly was brilliant in showing us around when we came to view and the venue had a unique vibe which is what we were after. We went for the twilight package which starts a little later, had a more laid back food arrangement with pizza and hog roast and is far better value for money! Milly was great in responding to our queries and setting up meetings to plan our day. On the day it was brilliant, they catered for some number changes in the last week and additional performers and provided a DJ - Sam, who was brilliant. Vicky kept tabs on the day and ensured a smooth running and made it so enjoyable. While Paul greeted us welcomingly on the day, giving the grooms party a free round of shots to settle the pre-wedding nerves. With last orders at 1am, James and Matty were brilliant and ensured in a busy bar that the bride and groom were always served first.

Lovely pub, service very good, but let down by the triple cooked chips taste was awful and not cooked nice very pale and soggy not crispy like they should be. Informed waiter who apologised.

Tasty food, portions were a little small. Lager selection wasn't great.

We had the roast Sunday lunch which was lovely but returned at about 1900 for supper- (but just missed kitchen had closed) they put together a cheese board for us as we had been 3 times that weekend it was lovely and so kind - the staff on this weekend deserve a medal (May Day weekend) lovely 😊 we’ll done!

Shockingly disappointed. This place always served nice food & a nice atmosphere but night out with hubby on Saturday 11th May was awful. Staff were disorganised, limited menu, I ordered a side with my main and I had to ask twice for it - I didn't want to start my meal without it as it was a main component (mash) in the end I did as my lamb was going cold. Had no peas for my hubby's meal (as on the menu) and only told him 1 minute before it came out, he was given an alternative. Gave him a beer when he wanted a lager shandy as he was driving !! Toilets were disgusting - dirty floors, overflowing bins !! Curtain pulled across where we were sat and I felt like I was in my granny's parlour. Wedding on and I feel they were more focused on that so they need to either be a country pub or wedding venue as it seems they can't cope with both. Oh and if I'd have been the bride I so wouldn't have wanted to use the toilets in my beautiful dress !! We are usually good tippers but we made sure they didn't add the 10% service charge and they did take my mash off but a little too late !! We will definitely not be returning and would NOT recommend.

From 1st talking to you about the event and it taking place everything has been so easy. You and your team looked after us brilliantly from the moment we arrived well before the start. Asking if we had any special requirements, how we wanted food and drinks served did we need any help with payments. So disappointing. We went as family and three of the roasts were cold and did not look appetising and they weren’t! The service was slow and they weren’t busy! It spoilt our get together. We have been previously over Easter as we’re local but this was the lowest standard we’ve experienced there. Not acceptable.

Lovely venue but have to say a little disappointed. We visited yesterday. When we arrived they weren’t ready for us and we had to wait for the table to be set. When we did eventually sit down we waited ages for somebody to come and take our order and then when the food did come out one main meal was missing and everyone else had practically finished their meal by the time it arrived (sorry but that’s a pet hate of mine). I expected more from the look of the venue.

Having lived so local for over 50 years I had never been before. My son highly recommended so for his birthday meal we booked. Lovely setting and buildings and not busy as a weekday early evening. Food was lovely and good value for the money we spent. Service wasn’t the quickest but I always think this shows the food is fresh and made to order so no issue and it was nice just to relax and chat while we waited for it. Will definitely be returning.

It was a delight to eat there, I wish it was nearer home. They do weddings as well as fine dining, I would choose it for us.

I just to say a heartfelt thank you for my Mum and Dads 75th birthday meal today. It was beautiful in the mezzanine and very very kind of you to put us in there. The food was superb and all of the staff were so lovely and attentive. I cannot thank you all enough for a very special afternoon. Please pass on our thanks to all of the staff. We’ve been regular customers of this place, which is just lovely designed but unfortunately the service from the staff seems to let the place down quite a lot. I booked a table for me and my wife to enjoy a nice lunch in the afternoon after finishing a very busy week. We’ve been welcome well by the staff and guided to the table, ordered the drinks and the food. We’ve just ordered main course for both of us and we had to wait 50 mins for a fish & chips, which came o a very bad plating with no souses . We’ve asked the staff why it took so long and said it just did not see us on the table ( but passed us 4times) ridiculous reason to say. Unfortunately we will not get back to the place ever again. Also asked to speak with a manager about the behaviour but never came to speak with us. So so poor to treat the customers, we felt that they did not wanted to have us there.. Ruined a lovely Friday afternoon

Sunday lunch menu. We booked for 6pm Sunday evening. Using a gift voucher, after a long wait our meals arrived, my choice roast beef,plus extra slice of pork, beef was very thinly sliced ,pork was very thin tasteles slicees, Roast potatoes seemed like they were reheated and cold certainly not freshly cooked, just 1 Roast carrot & a small portion of cabbage ! 2 members of my party had the same beef, and were of the opinion that the meal which was not what we expected.This was our first visit, which was very disapointied. We shall not be returning !

Whilst the pub is lovely clean and lovely setting. Went on a Saturday afternoon wasn't busy at first but did fill up. Waited for a table didn't bother us. But the wait to order was extreme had to get up and ask if I could order. Food took an age to arrive whist it looked great was cold. Then drink was forgotten didn't want to complain as by this time it was filling up.very expensive for what you get. Wouldn't go again

Great food with excellent service from the staff. The visit was somewhat spoiled by the mannerism of the gentleman whom I presume was the manager who informed us after overriding the young lady who had greeted us and was about to show us to our table, that he would have to check with Chef to accomodate. Bizarre behaviour considering the place was not full in the two hours we were there!! Hilarious Mr Fawlty or is it Captain Mainwaring?

We celebrated our wedding here on September 22nd 2023 What can we say other than it was absolutely brilliant from start to finish. Millie was amazing and very reassuring. She made the day stress less. I wasn't worried about anything going wrong. She was very personable and did everything she could to make our vision a reality. The venue it should be noted has excellent contacts with other businesses you may need for a wedding like bands, DJs and their food was unreal! Guests commented.on.how good the portion sizes were. Everything was worth the money and our wedding was compared to being better than one that someone had went to which was double the price of ours!! Many people commented on the personable service the waiting staff gave us. They would come and say bye as they were switching staff and people said it was a nice touch. The budget side was brilliant. They are very experienced in knowing what works. We planned this in 9months. What I also liked was there was no pressure placed on us to commit and once we did commit there was no pressure or reminders to pay the remaining balance. Thank you all so much for making our day truly amazing and stress free We will see you on our anniversary for some more.of that amazing locally sourced food.

I never write reviews. Had poor meal at this place few days ago -been eating here well for 20+ years. 3 ladies for lunch at 2pm. Could guess place in decline on arrival in my opinion since the named Entrance was set out in broken peeling polystyrene ( ?) lettering. Noticeably peeling black paint around threshold. Welcomed nicely inside. Shown table of two friends. Changed menu-so ordered a salad with salmon extra £14 in toto. Soup and club sandwich might have been better. 3 salads turned up a) order taker forgot one was with dressing on side-all taken back and re-presented. 2)smoked salmon turned up -we were expecting salmon steaks from menu but made no protest, its about seeing each other. 3) had asked about volume -was too little lettuce. Too little altogether eg compared to USA where salads are proper. ( This was dressed salads swimming in bottled dressing, unpleasantly wet.) Waiter attempted jollity and marked each of us out of 10 for volume eaten, not appreciated by us. We all could cook far better falling off a log. Sorry. Very disappointed as have had lovely food here for a long time. Friends say evening and real cooked food is still good.

Rang to try and book a table for 5 on Mother's Day Realise it was last minute but the girl I spoke to said I should ring back when they weren't so busy. I didn't ring back! I rang the Netherton Hall in Frodsham. What a difference! So polite, so helpful and managed to fit us in. Thank you Netherton. Sorry Chester Field bad public relations.

Sunday lunch out. I had roast beef dinner. Beef gorgeous. Dinner slightly cold but still ate it all. Partner had chicken roast. All polished off with sticky toffee pud with ice cream - best one I've ever had!! ❤

Fantastic evening Loved the sofa’s on the outside area near pizza oven. The young man made sure heaters were on and went above and beyond. Service was great! Look forward to going back. I hope they keep the sofas in the outdoor area was private for large groups to get together

Desperately in need of a handrail for those requiring the use of a stick. My problem was overcome by the kindly arm of a customer. Menu somewhat restricted [fish,gammon burger or steak] Thought ours was slightly overcooked.

Food was very nice, staff friendly, nice place. I would come agsin. Service very slow though. No gherkins on burger which was only pointed out as it was served. Gherkins are an important component. Oh and whats with the ‘quality street cheesecake’? Had nothing to do with quality street.

We had our wedding here on Tuesday and we couldn't have asked for more, the venue itself is stunning if your looking for a rustic barn vibe the staff went above and beyond all day and night to make sure everything was perfect, guests didn't stop raving about the food canapes main meal and the wood burner pizzas at the end of the night unreal. Big shout out to Milly who worked with us to plan our day she really listened to what we wanted from the day and it was absolutely perfect nothing was a problem for her So thank you to all of you for making our day so special ☺️

Absolutely amazing and unexpected turkey dinner.

After a not so great initial experience two months earlier, my family and I returned to the Chester Fields for the Grinch “party”. I was desperate to like this place as most of the interior was lovely and they had a good menu, but it just has not lived up to the hype on either visit, and quite frankly their customer service is shocking and extremely poor. Both visits I have felt ignored, however when we went to the Grinch party, we paid for “Entertainment, Crafts, Buffet, and Mulled wine” which was completely false advertising. It was not cheap and I was so disappointed by this event. When I raised this was staff via email a few days later, they AGREED that it was a poor event and asked me what could be done to resolve it, and then after I responded they told me “we can’t do anything now because you didn’t speak to us on the day”. Our situation did not allow this at the time (screaming two month old baby and an upset toddler about the “grinch party”) and I was pleased with their initial Response accepting responsibility for how poor the event was, only to be told after too late. So rude and unprofessional. Will never return and would not recommend, the staff clearly cannot be bothered.

5 adults and 2 children at 5pm 2 days before Christmas. Ushered to a dimly lit table at the rear of the dining area where we ordered our drinks and served quickly. We were then given the announcement that an item was off the menu, not a problem. We selected our starter only to be told the pigs in blankets were finished. Remember this is 5pm. So onwards we selected our main course, 2 of which were the turkey dish. These appeared only to be sent back due to over cooking and cold. The second dish was slightly better and consumed. Now the Christmas feeling was beginning to dissolve. Onwards to the sweet, would you believe the fancy one with sweets etc was also unavailable. We received a discount only by complaining and returned home feeling somewhat disappointed. Regretfully I would not recommend this Pub and advise customers to look elsewhere.

Have been here a few times, and even had our Christmas party last year. The food is excellent, you will not be disappointed, it is well presented and tastes amazing. The staff are brilliant, they are friendly and polite and help make your dining experience one to remember. I highly recommend coming here.

After a visit to Chester we decided to do lunch. 20 years since been in the area and tried 3 other pubs (my old haunts from years ago) and all were closed at lunchrime! Stopped here in desperation as really hungry by then. Have to say it was excellent from moment we arrived. Was busy but the lady who greeted us straight away was happy for us to dine and to bring in the dog. Beautifully decorated for Christmas, the staff were lovely, friendly and very hard working, nothing was to much trouble and always met everyones requests with a smile ( traits sadly lacking these days, especially from customers!!). We had the fish and chips which were really good and the Guinness was "pulled " perfectly. We will definitely return and thoroughly recommend .

Our second visit here in 3 weeks and another excellent experience. 1st meal we had Sunday lunch, Roast Beef was delicious , 2nd visit with friends, various meals I had rump steak which was absolutely amazing - 2nd only to one I had in Madeira some time ago! Looking forward to another visit ver soon. Also Christmas decorations are beautiful

Always been a great experience eating at the Chester Fields as was our latest trip there food and service fantastic but definitely have to mention the sausage rolls on the little pigs plate I have never tasted anything like it truly amazing the hints of sage really complement it. I have been baking since I was 9 and have never managed to create a sausage roll like it. Well done team

The Chester Fields hosted our daughters 4th birthday party - pizza party. We had great service from Milly Leeds party organiser and Annabelle who assisted on the day was superb. It was great value for money and the team genuinely care about doing a great job. No job was too much effort and every request we made was met with professionalism and enthusiasm. The staff did everything they could to ensure the event went well and we are so grateful for that. The soft play hire from Cheshire Mama Club was a great addition, to a lovely venue.
