Absolutely fantastic Sunday roast today, nicest one we've ever had. Great little restaurant with very friendly staff. I had the trio of meats as couldn't decide what to have and so glad I did.

Great local pub with excellent food and wonderful staff. Well worth a visit!

The best Sunday Roast my wife and I have ever had and that’s not speaking lightly! We both had the lamb shanks and the meat, sides and gravy were unreal! Lamb was definitely cooked for 24 hours. Thank you!

This wasn’t a planned lunch but so glad we stumbled upon this place, the atmosphere was great and the staff were all so lovely the food was incredible! Next time I visit Chester I will be sure to visit again.

The bird is all good, nice atmosphere until a 9 year old wearing sportswear on a Saturday night spill a whole bottle of verve over you 100 pound polo shirt.

A short walk for us but well worth a 5 minute drive to the outskirts of Chester if you're visiting. The menu has a wide variety of British and international options which are consistently cooked to perfection, we try and eat here at least once a month, work permitting. Perfect for couples, family and friends. I can't recommend it highly enough

What a find this place was! Came up for a weekend in Chester and wanted somewhere special to eat on the Saturday night for my friends birthday. This place was amazing. The staff were really nice and helpful. I booked a table during the day and I would suggest booking ahead as it was rammed when we got there. Had a lovely table and I had the homemade pie of the day and my friend had lamb with vegetables. The apple and cinnamon afters with custard I would have every day if my waistline allowed it. Reasonable prices, lovely staff and gorgeous food. Just go there and thank me later. Would definitely recommend this place and would visit again if I get catastrophically lost and end up in Chester when heading for somewhere else.

Hidden gem not far from Chester. Beautiful setting, decor, and food with excellent service. The menu has something for everybody, and all food is top class. The bar is also well stocked with a great variety of everything and the hosts are very friendly and accommodating. A must visit if you ask me!

We went for Sunday dinner. It was our first time and a real treat. Fantastic meat and veg in a fantastic gravy. Couldn't fault it with great drinks too. We will keep coming back here. I recommend it and have done already. Great specials on Friday lunch and afternoon. Parking isn't great but that's a minor point.

We eat here often because the cuisine is exceptional. Locally sourced so there is a set menu and then specials, depending on what chef Alex has sourced.

Such a lovely country pub (very classy one by the way ) which is so a breath of fresh air, on a Friday night, after a long week, just to get away from the hustle and bustle of Chester town. I had the Katsu cauliflower curry, personally it was a bit on the hot flavor side for my taste. As a Vegan with only one Vegan main meal (Katsu Cauliflower curry) on the menu it was very limiting. I would love to keep going back regularly but not happy to keep having the same meal over and over. Maybe the amazing chef could change this …? My partner had the apple crumble for pudding which he said was really good, only thing about that is it was a lovely large portion but needed double the amount of custard. I would have loved an apple crumble (my fave route pudding) but there was not vegan option for this particular desert (there were other vegan dessert options) to be fair. The waitresses were all very attentive. Overall really good and will go back.

Visited last night with family and friends to celebrate my birthday. The staff made it special for us and ensured our needs were met perfectly. The pork belly notes and squid starters were lovely. The special of halibut with clams and mussels was delicious and I know the cauliflower katsu curry went down a treat as well as the steak pie. Thank you to Alex for the amazing food. Luke for getting our drink orders correct despite our dithering on what to try. All the staff made it a very special night that we all enjoyed. Highly recommend here.

Lovely setting in a little village just outside Helsby on the way to Chester. Renovated very tastefully. Not a cheap meal, but a really lovely treat. I had the sirloin steak with a delicious Diane Sauce, my fella had the lasagne which was delicious and huge!! Staff were nice, service was good. Really tiny car park, was the only downside but there was street parking but as it’s a little village, take care.

I highly recommend the BIH for those seeking flavoursome fayre, served by friendly and attentive staff in a relaxed environment. Every time I've eaten here, I've been impressed by the quality of the food and drink on offer.

Wow! What a great find on our little trip to this area. Staff - incredible. So accommodating, friendly and helpful. Food - outstanding. Had the sea bass special and the fish was cooked to perfection, fondant potato was just as it should be and the bisque was so tasty I had to stop myself from drinking it out of the pot!! Will be back!

Absolutely fantastic food. My pie was enormous and chock full of huge tender pieces of steak. Staff were lovely and friendly too.

Had a great meal here; staff were very attentive, food was lovely with good choices for our vegan companions. It was quite expensive but very enjoyable. Nice and clean and also a lovely outside area and a good range of drinks in the bar. This was a hidden gem and we would go again.

Live in Cheshire. This is one of my preferred options for Sunday lunch based on the roast beef dinner. Very good! Also good veggie roast option as they serve all the same potatoes, veg, , veg gravy, but the veg roast is a bit sweet and cinnamon for some tastes. Decor no longer traditional, but bright and pleasant enough. Service always friendly and good, from young wait staff. We go a few times a year for Sunday roast.

We travelled from South Wales and were looking for a place to park our T5 VW overnight and somewhere we could have a few drinks and food. The bird in hand kindly allowed us to park up and stay the night in the carpark. We had food which was exceptional. My Fiancé had the T Bone from the specials which was outstanding. The white wine was one of the nicest white wines I have had in a restaurant ans the staff were attentive, bubbly and couldn't do enough. Thank you for the amazing food, Thank you for the wonderful welcome And thank you for allowing us to stop the night. 💯 reccomend if you are in the area.

The Bird in Hand's chef has a great reputation and it is classed as one of the best food venues in Chester so, we have been meaning to visit for some time! This July, it did not disappoint! Between the 4 of us, we had the lamb shank, Aberdeen angus beef and turkey Sunday roasts. The only food that was left on our plates was what beaten us! Perfection throughout from the service and quality of produce. The drinks are a little pricey and there isn't much parking space (we had to park slightly down the road) but the food made up for it. We will be back! 5 stars

We popped in here rather than stopping at Chester services, and it was well worth the detour. I'm vegan and my friend isn't, and we both had plenty of exquisite food to choose from at a reasonable price. The staff were friendly and extremely attentive, and the atmosphere was lovely. It made a long journey feel like a day out.

Great Sunday lunch for a walking group. Warmly welcomed even though we were early, and enjoyed a cup of coffee in the sunshine. Good menu, most of us had the Sunday Roast; and all of us rated it excellent. The place was full by 12:30 but service was good - friendly and helpful - and a little mistake was quickly rectified. Thoroughly recommended - we intend to go back soon!

Visited this restaurant last night during a visit to Chester after seeing the positive reviews. We were not disappointed. The staff explained the specials and when I had a question, the chef came out to explain the dish. The starters (squid and pork belly) were delicious and the mains (turbot and t bone steak) were outstanding. The chef even substituted tomato for the most amazing sautéed peppers. Despite it being a quiet evening, we did not feel the need to leave and received a warm and friendly service from all members of staff. We hope to return if we are ever back in the area! Service for our fillet steaks was a little tardy, but the steaks were beautifully prepared and worth the wait.

Cant fault the experience at all, great staff friendly, smart and good at what they do, lovely surroundings, the food is even better....fitted us in on a sunday lunch as a walk in, even gave a pint on the house as food took a while to come out. Love this place. Have only started visiting fairly recently (I’ve been missing out all this time!) and will definitely be returning soon. Have tried the burger and roast dinner, of which you can get a choice of meats. They also do a steak deal on Thursday which I will definitely be trying soon. Keep up the good work guys!

Wow... The Sunday lunch really is first class. The mash was amazing, the veg and the meat was unreal. My parents loved it as did I. Really impressed. A real gem in the north West and Cheshire. Highly recommend

Having eaten at The Bird in Hand previously we always enjoy going back time and time again. The Red Snapper special looks far too pretty to eat, the flavours were outstanding. The Thursday evening steak offer is also incredible value, friends who I was with said the steak was amazing and lovely that there is a very good choice of wine to choose from. We will be back

We visited many times but haven’t been back in a year. The welcome from the staff was so nice and a breath of fresh air the service food was really great the choice of menu including the specials was lovely drinks well served and presented. .

Since moving up to Chester from London last year, we have been meaning to have a meal at the Bird in Hand after seeing the rave reviews (& pictures(. of their food. Today was the day! We weren't disappointed. My partner said that the belly pork starter was, I quote "the best belly pork I have ever eaten" (and that is saying something). My red snapper dish looked too pretty to eat, but once I got past that - it tasted even better than it looked. Such great flavours- we were really impressed and will definitely be back 👍🏼

I had the weeks special which was absolutely beautiful. Alex cooked the scallops perfectly, I thoroughly enjoyed them along with the seasonal buttered veg. As always I was looked after be everyone.

Absolutely amazing Sunday dinner not the first visit we have had, however this time we tackled the Thors Hammer plenty to go around for 6 people really delicious, staff are always friendly and polite asking if we need extras etc, would highly recommend this great county pub in the beautiful Cheshire country side…….. well worth a visit

The dream local pub with amazing service and food! We decided to visit for lunch after friends had been and raved about the food. We were not disappointed. As soon as we walked in we were given wonderful customer service. We opted to share the croquettes and arancini balls which were gorgeous. Our daughter had a cheese burger, my partner had the chicken pie and I had the fish special for main. We all loved our meals and the attentive service we received. I have already recommended to more friends and family. Thanks for a great lunch!

The bird had a great atmosphere and has very good food. I recommend this place. If you are a local it is like home to you. the manager Stavros is very nice and my son asked him if stavros could adopt him. Stavros also babysits for only £12 an hour. If you need a babysitter for your kids contact Stavros. Overall great.

Fabulous pub tucked away in the corner of the village, cracking food, super friendly staff. Sunday roasts a must have, Deliciously huge lamb shank and home made toffee sticky pud to die for!

Faultless service and incredible food. My wife has a an allergy to molluscs and the chef took extra care to ensure she could enjoy her meal without any risk. The food was absolutely top class and great value too. We will definitely return soon.

Another lovely special from Alex and team …. The fish cake was superb , the plaice cooked perfectly and the parsley sauce was delicious ! Always amazing food every time I visit , along with amazing service from Stav and his team out front .

This is our most recent visit of many. We live 30 min drive away and keep returning. We absolutely love it here. The food is always above amazing. The atmosphere is fabulous and the service is again, always 100%

A Mother’s Day lunch in the Bird in Hand. Was pleased to see a varied wine list, much better than the usual. My Lamb Shank was excellent, with good side vegetables and a really nice mash, others around the table were as happy as I was. Sticky toffee pudding was well made, and a huge portion. Plenty of staff seemed happy to serve, nothing was a problem. Would happily recommend for an informal lunch.

I booked this for a meal with the family on a rainy Sunday afternoon and we were not disappointed! From the moment we stepped into the door we were made to feel welcome by all staff. The food was amazing, the menu has limited choice but when the food is up to this standard I fully see why. The children’s meals were really sizeable especially the burger. The trio of meats was a perfect meal and the desserts hit the spot. For us though, the atmosphere and ambience of the pub along with the brilliant staff is was sets it apart from others that we have visited. A first time visit but certainly not the last!! Recommend this to anyone

The most AMAZING roast dinner experience! This Mother’s Day, my family and I had the pleasure of enjoying the best roast dinner ever. Both my mum and my nan shared the sentiment that it was truly exceptional. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, always ready to assist. The management was outstanding, and we were delighted when the chef personally served some dishes; his pride in the food was evident. We are definitely planning to come back for more!!! Thank you x

Best Sunday roast I’ve had in a long time. Perfect roasts,gravy, veg and the beef was delicious with an enormous Yorkshire pudding and pigs in blankets. Lovely ambiance and the staff are lovely.

We had the most FABULOUS Sunday roast here today. Really tasty, good sized portions and hot! (With plenty of gravy) All the staff were attentive and really friendly too. Highly recommended. My only regret was forgetting to take a photo to post on here with this review! We will definitely be eating here again.

I was fortunate enough to recently spend an evening with friends at The Bird in Hand and what a delight it was in every way. The restaurant had a lovely ambience, the welcome was warm and the staff were attentive and engaging. As for the food, there was an excellent choice of dishes. I chose a main of roast duck with fondant potatoes and buttered greens and it was full of flavour and cooked to perfection. This was a truly pleasant way to spend an evening, with the only dilemma being, planning how quickly I can return. Thank you to everyone at The Bird in Hand.

Four of us went out for anniversary meal. Lovely food and excellent service..very friendly which is nice to see. Fondant potato very small compared with the rest of the meals(Two or a slightly larger one would be better) Also it would be nice if a reasonably priced Spanish wine was available.( But that is just some feed back.)Meals and place and staff lovely.Thanks

Well, let’s start with the front of house (Stavros) who is excellent. So welcoming and attentive with a ‘nothing is a problem’ attitude. Moving onto the food, the photos speak for themselves. The hake with lobster bisque was out of this world! Some of the tastiest food we’ve experienced. Starter and dessert equally flawless. Zero faults to be found with all three courses and we wish we lived closer so that we could visit every week. We envy the local people! Highly, highly recommended.

Excellent food - I had the pie of the day which was steak and my wife had the southern fried chicken burger. Both absolutely gorgeous meals. The steak pie was excellent, gorgeously slow cooked beef with a rich sauce and plenty of gravy. Chips were perfect and there was a dipping pot of gravy for these as well - always a way to win a Yorkshireman. I had a bite of the chicken burger and it was so tender with a beautifully seasoned coating. We were both full but had to have dessert - also excellent. The service was really accommodating and made us feel very welcome. We both had wine which was lovely and a very reasonable price - about £9 for a large glass of red wine. We spent £30-£40 per person but had two glasses of wine, a main and a dessert each. More than reasonable price given the quality. Overall fantastic without any pretentiousness about it!

Christmas day at the Bird in Hand, could not have been bettered, champagne and canapes on arrival scallop starter fillet steak with asparagus and stem broccoli,the gravy is to die for, quotro of deserts to finish, all accompanied by Christmas Carols and live cabaret.

Absolutely stellar food, best of all our trip in the UK. Super friendly staff, wonderful local feeling while still being inviting. Super recommended.

Visited with a friend. Very quickly seen to and were directed to the bar to get ourselves a drink whilst our table was being prepared. Bar area is quite small but we were served pretty quickly. We both ordered a roast dinner. Very big servings...

The food was oustanding. Place is little but really nice and modern. We discovered it by chance but we will be back for sure. Everybody was kind and service was fast. 5 star for me.

Visited today for Sunday lunch, after visiting family graves at the church. Staff extremely attentive, and the guy (possibly owner/manager-curly dark hair in ponytail?) brilliant too. All ordered Sunday lunches, all agreed the best we had ever had. Just delicious. Can’t wait to visit again.
