Telford's Warehouse in Cheshire West and Chester

This is still a favourite of mine to visit as the atmosphere and architecture is welcoming and cosy, but I'm disappointed with the food recently. I've had 2 lukewarm roasts dinners and a lukewarm soup which was so thick it resembled a puree. A shame really because the food was fantastic before.

Great atmosphere, good selection of drinks, just a little too loud, very hard to hold a conversation.

Friendly pub along the canal , perfect location for sitting outside in nice weather and food and service consistently very good . Good variety of fresh food and drinks plus live music /events too . Highly recommended.

I must express my extreme disappointment with Telford's restaurant, a place I used to frequent due to its proximity to my workplace. First and foremost, the consistent rudeness displayed by an older lady with grey hair in a ponytail is simply unacceptable. I don't know if she's bar staff or a manager but every time I've visited, her demeanor has been nothing short of appalling. It's beyond comprehension how someone in a customer-facing role could behave so poorly. Her attitude has soured what should have been enjoyable outings after work into regrettable experiences. Recently, she has moved us off a table in the most chaotic fashion. We added one chair to a table of 3 to make it 4 after asking the table next to us if we could take the chair. She ran over shouting 'YOU CAN'T HAVE 4 ON THAT TABLE, MOVE THAT CHAIR NOW' we we're really confused, if it was a problem there is surely politer ways to do this? I made a comment about this to her and she changed her tune slightly but still rude. We went to stand by the bar and a couple on a bigger table said they would switch with us and made a comment about the lady being so rude for no reason. Since, we have then visited on a Tuesday, just before 6PM. 4 of us arrived to have a couple of drinks. We weren't even allowed up the stairs, the security guard shouted 'Are you here for the quiz?', we said 'no, just a couple of drinks if that's okay'. Not expecting it to be a problem, he said 'tables are all set up for the quiz now so you can't come in'. I said 'Are you joking? What time does the quiz start?' He said '6.30PM'. We left and checked online and the quiz wasn't due to start until 9PM. Yesterday around 6PM we were sat at a table so we could order some food, we were told by another member of staff they would need the table back for 7.45PM - we only wanted nibbles so this was fine, at 6.10PM she reached over us and our drinks to put a sign on the table saying 'Reserved at 7.45PM'. I find this incredibly rude to interrupt us, something I would probably overlook if she isn't consistently rude to us at every visit. I would love to discuss with you so you can learn how to behave in a customer facing role.

I can't think of another pub in the UK that has a working crane in the middle of the floor, it's quite unique. You can see from the outside where the barges would float in below the warehouse and the crane would pull the goods up to the 1st floor. Normally come here when we've finished a walk from Ellesmere port having walked all the way down the canal. It's a nice place to finish a walk as they have a great selection of real ales and beers. Theres so many it's difficult to select your pint sometimes. Update, I tried the food today and had a chicken and bacon baguette. Nice meal and good value for money.

Never disappoints with its quirky interior, friendly service and outstanding beer + food. My go-to in Chester.

Enjoyed our evening here. Good menu choices, lovely polite staff Great selection of Beers Reasonable prices for food. Seafood linguine was delicious as was the beef dish. Fish and chips,peas was good but could have been excellent with a few more chips and less heavy batter and served on hot plates. We found the room to be quite chilly as the roof is so high but it's a lovely place to eat or drink,the lighting is a bit too low to see the food . Parking is very tight and managed to get the last space, because unfortunately we couldn't see any disabled bays at all So this made it quite difficult for one in our group who is disabled. But would highly recommend a visit here just wear an extra layer.

Great intimate music venue, and the food was good. Unfortunately on this visit service was rather slow and from sitting down at our table it took over an hour for the starters to arrive.

I went here with my fiancée and our friends for a much needed catch up, some food and drinks. Having went to Chester Uni, we were aware of how nice it is at Telfords Warehouse, but not been in a while. Making the booking was easy and effortless, and even when we got there half an hour early the table was ready for us and the staff, who were very friendly and welcoming, were more than accommodating. Once our friends arrived, staff very quickly took our food and drinks order, which was very encouraging. Unfortunately, the four starters between us took around half an hour to arrive, which considering was just some sausages, bread and oil, and halloumi fries, was disappointing. Especially considering the pub was not overly busy. The food itself was hot and delicious, it was just a shame it took so long to arrive. The same went for the main courses which were four of the roast dinners. That took around 45 minutes, which again for a Sunday service where roast dinners should be expected, and when the pub was not too busy, was even more disappointing. I was aware the staff were conscious about the delays because I noticed on several occasions them talking to the kitchen and glancing in our direction, and someone coming to our table apologising about the length of time and informing us when they were next out, which was encouraging. When the food finally arrived, it was nice. I wouldn't say it was amazing, nor worth the wait or the money it cost, but satisfied our craving for a Sunday roast. The desserts were really nice. Again, took around 15 minutes for just two slices of cake and some scoops of ice cream, but the taste and quality of them made up for it. Overall, it was a nice experience and perfect for having a catch up like we wanted, but unless something is changed about the delays in the food being prepared and served I would not be recommending people to go back there.

Absolutely beautiful place situated right on the canal edge. Nothing more enjoyable than sitting by the water with a pint or wine in hand.

We used to eat at Telfords every week but haven’t for sometime as the quality had deteriorated so much. I presume that they lost their chef. We thought we’d try again recently but the standard was still poor. Please ask your old chef back. I am aware that a lot of local people have stopped eating at Telfords. It is still a lovely venue and great bar but I would not recommend the food.

We have been here a couple of times and find it in a good location lovely inside . We went for drinks and proceeded to look for a table as there were 6 of us and a lot of the tables had reserved signs on them . We moved a couple of the chairs to be told not to!! Told where we could sit only to be told to love again! The young lady was quite rude ! Perhaps some people skills are needed! Needless to say it out a slight dampener on our visit!

I love this pub and support it wholeheartedly. But the roast looked generous piled up but most of the beef I discarded as it was all sinew and grisely bits and only 2 roast potatoes I was still hungry after and this is not good for a Sunday roast

Revisited Telfords warehouse yesterday as we’ve not been for a couple of years despite it being a favourites. I’m delighted to say it is good as it’s ever been, friendly staff, great food and a good atmosphere . Would definitely recommend.

Lovely atmosphere, great decor and views. Very reasonable prices. Totally amazing choice of real ales, stouts, lagers, sours and cider. I am deducting 2 points as they used frozen chips but other than than a fantastic Venue and great food.

I'm hoping this place was short staffed when we went for my wife's 60th birthday. Took half an hour before we were asked what we wanted to drink. Table booked at 7.30. Starter came 8.30 Mains came 9.15. Just being honest. Sorry if it upsets someone

Usually the Telford is a lovely place to visit when we go to Chester, there were dogs lying in people's way across walkways and where people were carrying drinks, the dogs were barking and nipping at people when leaving the establishment which ultimately left the whole experience under their usual par.

Now they serve Guinness again instead of that other stuff I won't name.its much improved. Huge array of beers ales ciders and wine. Including my personal fave cider of Aspall's. Good place to see a small live group close up and personal. Don't drink too much and fall in the canal outside though🍺

It was ok, not the best, but ok

I visited to see a band play, Nealy Young. The place seems really nice. The staff were good and seemed pretty happy (I see that as a good sign). As a music venue, it seems excellent. Someone has invested in an excellent PA system and an engineer to run it, and the sound was remarkable (as a musician this is a subject close to my heart).

Not been to Telfords for many years. Good venue and nice vibe when you go in. Contrary to other reviews I quite like the company of furry friends. Gathering for a works’ Christmas meal. Well deserved in a hard working team. Staff friendly enough. Food not great. I always have a rule not to eat in a restaurant near Christmas as it’s often disappointing and not a good representation of the normal standard. This definitely fell into the category. Despite colleague advising one of the team not well enough to attend the message had not been relayed. This in itself led to some fiasco with starters. Wrong ones being delivered and those that did were below par. Mains mediocre. I went for the sea bass. Fish not badly cooked. However the chorizo hash brown to do with it was inedible. When cooked fresh it may well have been more pleasant to eat but……. Heated, left to go cold, reheated is not great for the palate when you’re eating a congealed mess. Cheese cake dessert needs a complete rethink. Just awful. The worst of all though was the faux pas putting garlic sauce with the plum pudding. Waitress felt the need to taste and confirm for me! Rude. Even more rude was the disgruntled chef hollering from the kitchen as if we didn’t hear “Tell her to swill her mouth out, cleanse her palate and retry”. I ask you. To then send the poor waitress out to confirm that she agreed it tasted of garlic, but it was the type of brandy really did finalise the overall quality and calibre of the venue. I am a very seasoned restaurant goer. So I need not tell you that this didn’t impress. This sort of attitude and service is why businesses fold. Good luck my friends trying to pull the wool again. Attitudes of chef upstairs generally poor, with a need for a complete rethink.

Hadn't been back here for some considerable time. Still a great atmosphere, despite it the early evening. Also, a good selection of ales.

Booked a table for lunch. Was met by a bearded / balding middle aged stoner type on the steps. He refused us entry claiming “ I don’t need a reason” . We left immediately in fear for our lives as he was very threatening to myself and my sister. Such a shame as the place used to be really nice.

Turned up for lunch today with my dad and dog, and as we left I saw one of the staff members being aggressive to a man and woman as they were walking in to Telfords. It seemed completely unreasonable and he had awful manners for someone working there. For this, I will not be returning to Telfords, especially if this man is still working there for fear that he will treat us like that. I suggest you check your CCTV as this is disgusting behaviour for a staff member. Such a shame as the food was lovely.

While the service here was friendly, good and welcoming I will not be returning with my family ever again. After waiting a very long time for our food it wasn't the best at all. To break it down simply, the steaks had been asked to be well done,yet were still pink in the middle. Chips clearly came frozen from a bag. The pasta was the only perfect dish. My salt and pepper ribs had been fried in oil that was clearly old and were so dry and overcooked I literally cut them to bits to try and find any edible bits. I ate the veg bits instead. My crispy Japanese chicken supposedly with terriyaki sauce was so hard it shot off my plate when I tried to stab it with my fork. I was so disappointed. After spending just under £200 in total I did mention my food and was compensated for the chicken. Although I was left feeling awkward and embarrassed while my server went to speak to a manager about it. I wasn't after any money refund I just wanted them to know for future reference. All in all an unpleasant experience for me.

Service and the general atmosphere was the only reason I gave this place any points. Food was terrible. Mine was so dry ,overcooked I couldn't even get some of it on my fork. I could go on but was just speechless about how bad the food was . I was compensated for my chicken but my point was all of my food was virtually inedible ,I only ate a little veg. I mentioned it so they knew not for a few pounds off our bill . We still spent just under £200 and I was left feeling awkward and embarrassed for mentioning how bad my food was. Will not be returning here ever again.

Great place right next to the water, the loaded nachos were top banana. Friendly stuff and great service. I will 100% visit again.

I ordered the Mexican burger with beef and it was the best burger I've had, absolutely delicious 😋 My girlfriend had the salt and pepper ribs with seaweed and it was amazing I should know because she let me try it. The man serving us was brilliant and looked after us well. The food didn't take to long either. Thank you Telford's Warehouse we will be back again we won't leave it so long this time.

Absolutely rubbish ,chunky chips were oven scrap chips,sausage wasn't cooked ,service was poor and restaurant full off wet smelly dogs.everything over priced ,won't be going again

All time favourite pub is Chester.

Nice spot to eat and very friendly staff. It should be a winner, but, the food was just not very good. One of the dishes we had to send back as the dish was not cooked and was still cold. Soggy chips as well served. Also it was early in the evening and some dishes were unavailable. The positioning of this pub and the staff you have should make this place a sell out every evening, but the food is a letdown, sorry.

Came here for a meal with a friend who lives in the area. I didn't even know this place existed beforehand but I'm glad I do now. The food, service and atmosphere were all superb. Will definitely be coming again

We visited here last night after a day at the races. There were 6 of us who all ordered varying starters and main courses and all dishes were delicious. The rigatoni dish I had was the best I have had anywhere. Staff were helpful and efficient. Would definately return

We visited after a day at the races. Cracking place to drink & dine. Really is that good , indoor and outdoor seating with an upper level. Based on other reviews I ordered the salt & pepper ribs and I'm pleased that I did , generous portion , cooked to perfection & great taste ( i was in a group of 12 and 4 others had the same & loved it ) Full plates arrived, and empties went back, that tells you everything. All staff were nice , prices reasonable , super food. No hesitation in recommending

A well presented canalside venue just outside Chester City Walls with plenty of moorings in Tower Wharf. 20+ choices of canned beers, lagers and ciders as well as local draught and usual brewery offerings. Something a bit different to normal pub fayre and a good selection for Veg/Vegan. The service was great, the portions plentiful and very tasty. Close to student accommodation so weekends could be busy. For a one night stand at any other time, highly recommended

Went here for dinner, ordered the Ribeye steak, pretty poor meal for £23.95, small fatty , grisly steak the size of a small burger , poor quality portion fries and 3 small cherry tomatoes on steak , that was it , total rip off , wouldn’t go again, Also£4.50 for orange and lemonade,Also get charged 10% service charge. No wonder it wasn’t busy.

Went for a meal last night with some business Colleagues I ordered the Ribeye with pepper corn sauce when the meal arrived I was very disappointed at what was on the plate , I had a lifeless unappetising piece of meat the size of Mc D regular burger along with this was chip sticks like you buy in a pit of crisps and a string of over roasted cherry tomatoes . The cost for this insult was £23.50 & the cost in my eyes given the meagre low quality amount on my plate would of cost £4-5 at cost price !!! One hell of a mark up . Avoid Avoid Avoid …………. I went home feeling Ripped of & hungry !!!! Never Again .

Visited Telford warehouse for an evening meal. The food was excellent but unfortunately same could not be said for the service. Ordered drinks to have with our meal, they never came. Asked about the drinks after 30 minutes, told the delay was due to the bar being busy ‘they’re probably downstairs’. No check back during the meal, and the drinks never came despite chasing them. Spoke to the manager, whilst she apologised she also didn’t appear too concerned…paid the bill ‘in full’ and had a drink elsewhere !! Would recommend the food but not the service .

Wanted to go somewhere that we hadn't eaten at for our anniversary, 46 years and counting. Very busy so was glad I booked a table, ideal location overlooking the canal and with it being dog friendly it's an popular place to visit and stop for a swift drink. Both of us plumbed for the haloumi fries to start and followed this with ribs with crispy seaweed both of which hit the spot .good array of beers on draft to keep you interested service ok considering it was busy ,price wise it was on par with similar eateries so not overly expensive and you can see why this place is so popular.

Used to go to Telfords all the time when I lived in Chester. It is one of the few live music venues in the town. This place has everything, great beer, food, atmosphere, live music, friendly staff, and the views across the canal are beautiful. Many great sunsets, and a few sunrises have been witnessed there. I recommend the place regularly to anyone visiting Chester.

We were in for pub grub and this hit the spot. Quieter than some of the places in (very) nearby Chester centre, this place is nevertheless popular and rightly so.

Fab visit and we will definitely return. We walked round to Telfords after we had a family day at the races. We were fortunate to get a table in the bar which was reserved from 8pm, but we knew we would be gone by then. We ordered drinks at the bar and enquired about food. It was 5.30 at this time and we were told that food orders started at 6. Full marks to Jasmine who was a fabulous server. Jasmine came over at 6 to take our order and the service was friendly and efficient. Food was good and we all said we would return.

Went to Telford's for lunch. The seafood platter was the best I have ever tasted. The other veggie meals were excellent also. The drinks are reasonably priced. The service was quick and efficient. All round an excellent lunch1
