Dog friendly pub with delicious food, family friendly, absolutely love this place. I ordered the rosemary chicken burger which was delicious, the kids meals are very reasonably priced, mine had the pizza which they all enjoyed. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.

Managed to fit our family group in on a busy Saturday evening. Service was efficient and friendly throughout. Food really enjoyable and reasonably priced. Lovely pub atmosphere. All round an excellent experience.

Can't complain! reasonably priced, food was nice, especially the chicken starter Korean BBQ chicken strips partner would love this as a main, staff friendly, went on a Sunday and didn't have the roast but still plenty on the menu and the roasts did look good too!

We did valentines night 4 of us as our friend and partner came. Food was amazing had a problem with cherry bread and butter pudding was sorted straight away even though was ate until realised. Stunning pub staff lovely thank you for a lovely evening.

It was not nice at all the turkey was like water it was horrible I will not be going going back and the beef was that hard you can’t not chew it

Still a fantastic place. The staff were great and very friendly we felt very welcome here. The food was still as expected for a chef and brewer. Good selection of drinks. Very highly recommended. Aslo good to see the blue cap dog still has a home but now inside the pub.

We went on Sunday. The pub was freezing. The lunch was terrible. The meat really fatty, the roast potatoes was cooked in old oil,the veg was just thrown on the plate. I think it needs a revamp and updating 🤔

3 out of our meals we're great however the Mushroom Bourgignon Wellington no little to no filling which was incredibly disappointing. Pub was very quiet yet a couple was placed right next to us and in a very quiet pub it was overbearing. If the pub had been busy it would not have impacted but felt very overheard.

Booked a meal for 24 in the function room for the xmas menu. Great service and the food was amazing and lovely. Thanks to the Blue Cap for providing a nice venue and excellent food for an annual xmas Party.

Emma was fantastic, incredibly welcoming and friendly. Service with a smile! Thank you it was just what we needed after our travels. Cheesy garlic bread and halloumi fries were great as a starter… the ribeye steak was really delicious. Good portions for the price!

1st time visiting the blue cap and I can't recommend it highly enough the food was superb and the staff were excellent especially Emma& Harry who looked after our table absolutely great job. Will definitely visit again.

Went for a meal for my sons 40th. Have to say we all really enjoyed it. There was plenty on your plate and 10 options on the main course childrens menu and all reasonably priced.

I asked for and paid just under £10 for a Sunday morning breakfast, I told them I was gluten free and was assure it was fine, turns out I couldn't have sausages, hash browns or black pudding ! The bread that came with it was absolutely awful too, once cooled twisted and as I tried to butter it it snapped in half, I do wish chefs asked which was the best bread because their choice certainly isn't. Altho I did have bacon and it was thick cut it was very fatty I spent ages cutting it all off ! I had bubble and squeak it was totally tasteless. The table next to mine had a full plate of everything and had paid thd exact same as I had which u thought very unfair

Very good fish and chips, there were a lot of people eating midweek. Worth a visit for the fish and chips, looking around the restaurant the other meals looked good but we have not sampled any yet.

Always a pleasant welcome at theBlue Cap which is my local. Good selection of real ales & food usually good but last nights mixed grill was exceptional - best ever! Good portion of meats perfectly cooked & succulent plus nice crisp but fluffy chips. Well done!

1st time here and I will not return the staff were rude and standoffish especially the young lad with the long hair tied up and the food was appalling asked for a medium steak and it came rare not bairly cooked at all I would avoid at all costs

Overall very average. Not all of our order came on time, we had to chase up the missing veg order, I think they had forgotten. The drinks service was pretty prompt however the table clearing was very poor. We didn't get offered any deserts 🤔

We had a lovely meal at the Bakers Arms , Our waitress Katie was so helpful , polite and kind !! Keep up the good work Katie 👍 We do regularly visit the Bakers Arms and the atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming , the food is great 😊

I visited here with friends for lunch, and had an excellent meal. Food was fresh and piping hot. Toilets were spotless too. Great customer service and welcome from Stacey, who looked after us. Thank you.

Food and place are normally fantastic. Disappointed on last visit, female behind the bar just complained about being on her own to everyone who would listen. Did really care about us. More interested in complaining to regulars. I wasn't told that the no longer except cash until I went to pay after eating lunch, really awkward as only had cash 😳

A disgraceful place, don't take cash ! And don't reply with nonsense saying it's signed off in wrong name, it certainly is not !

Great place to eat and drink. I particularly recommend the wild boar bangers and mash. Although they're a special I hope they're regularly rotated in. The blue cap has a great atmosphere and the staff are friendly and attentive without being pushy which is a difficult line to navigate. A fantastic alcohol and non alcohol selection too. Well worth a visit.

We enjoyed a lovely lunchtime meal at The Blue Cap recently. It was quiet and we could have our choice of table . All staff were friendly, helpful and super polite. They were efficient and quick to serve drinks, take orders and bring food. It's hard to judge prices as some people prefer a larger/smaller portion. We were hungry and celebrating, so although the sea bass fillets and scallops were lovely they were tiny and each scallop portion numbered 2. There was a gorgeous pea, mint and courgette risotto, but we also shared chips, as risotto formed the bed for the two tiny sea bass fillet, so was small in portion. It would normally be fine, but it was a celebration. £17.29 for this main course it was good value. Soft drinks are something else in this day and age £4+ for a coke and you have to eke it out for the length of the meal. The special dessert was lovely, but overly sweet for me...personal preference . Would we eat at The Blue Cap again? Yes....and that's the measure of a good venue for us.

It was our first visit after being recommended by a family member who visits weekly. It was a really nice place, lovely atmosphere and the food was excellent. Will definitely be returning.

Stayed as part of a family wedding, can’t fault the food or the service in a beautiful old English Pub. Massive thanks to Billie and the team for making our weekend!

We first went during covid, food was cold and I found stickers in lasagne the type of stickers you put on food to know when to throw it out. We didn’t go for a while after that as it was terrible, we then went with my partners family and this time it was very good food was brill we had a roast dinner. We then carried on going we’ve been about 5 times since and food has been amazing but service is horrendous every time. we’ve just left and staff really didn’t seem to have a clue what they were doing and didn’t seem to have much common sense. Food took so long to come out we finished our drinks so we ordered more, we saw them get poured and placed on the bar but staff were busy talking at the bar and didn’t bring drinks over for another 30 mins when we had finished food, at this point we were dying for a drink. Even after they were finished talking they took other tables plates away etc surely common sense would say bring our drinks over then clear tables close to us? We then waited a good while for them to bring us the bill. Just wouldent bother again. Can’t blame it on no staff as there seemed plenty of staff but they just didn’t tend to the tables very well at all. Oh and never enough gravy they only put Gravy on the meat! Dry veg and potatoes are not for me so had to ask for 4 small jugs of gravy til our food was actually covered…

Arrived at 0855 dim lighting Screaming background music Coffee was cold - replaced when notified Empty restaurant, bar two tables and seated at the entrance next to the buffet. This then had further guests passing past the table all the way through breakfast. Twenty fine minutes from ordering to breakfast on table. Requested well cooked bacon, the full breakfast arrive with undercooked bacon. Sent back to crisp up the bacon. Fried eggs were hard and overcooked Went for another coffee, the one pot was empty Not asked if sauces were required Overall, a very poor experience, I’m not one to use McDonalds on a regular basis, but I would rather have done breakfast there.

My special fish and chips was more batter than fish.

Four of us came for dinner as part of our monthly pie club I can't say enough how good everything was from the greeting from our server Billie to the fantasticly cooked food. I had the Korean bbq crispy chicken strips as a starter and the chicken ham pie with mash as a main. I would happily give the food a 12/10 it was that good. The chicken pie is incredible and perfectly cooked. Our server Billie was polite friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. This is our second trip to the blue cap and the experience each time has been first rate A big thank you to everyone today

Much better than my previous visit pre covid. Food was delicious and everything everyone ordered was great. We unfortunately felt very rushed due to a lack of multiple chefs or something along those lines. Almost felt guilty for ordering. Nonetheless i would come back!

Restaurant was busy so no tables free ,but we did get a table in the bar ,ordered at the bar as instructed ,food arrived with no cutlery,the table behind got table service for food and drinks.The food was above average but the pastry on the pie was very hard ,the carpark is shared with the hotel so lots of spaces

Great place food lovely, service was slow but they were suddenly busy & wasn't enough staff on to cope but the girls did there best & were very friendly. Choc brownie was amazing & the salmon in cream sauce really nice meal

Had lunch there which wasn't briiant- a baguette with chicken and bacon and chips. The bacon was cold and baguette quite hard and French fries which were only just warm

Good food, good local ales. Sometimes the service let's them down. When it's quiet the service is top notch.

Three of us had lunch here today, underwhelmed with meals, Small portions re scampi and chips. No leaf salad sadly lacking in veg. Potatoes on one meal a little underdone. Salmon was good though, but no return visit. However very pleasant service.

As a family we have always been to the Blue Cap for food and drinks, quite often it has been hit and miss but we went for a dinner on Saturday night and it was brilliant! The food was great, prices were reasonable and service was excellent! I would recommend to anyone visiting the area!

Went for lunch at the blue cap , had 2 vegetarian burgers and was cooked to perfection and really nice and quiet and the manager took are order and was looking after us :) we will be coming back again we really enjoyed it

First time visit but we will be back. Food was fabulous and staff friendly and helpful. Passed by this pub on many occasions, wish we had called in earlier !

Last time i was here yes it was good, this time, although i got here late just before the kitchen closed at 21:00 I got food ok, it was very busy and sort of looked under staffed as the bar area you had to wait quite a while

Great food, would highly recommend the cheese and bacon burger. Nice garden area to eat in too.

Just went for drinks. Very disappointed that the weekly pub quiz on a Thursday night has been cancelled. It used to be much busier when the quiz took place. We enjoyed the quiz.

Visited here with my family for dinner. We all had 3 courses and drinks. All the food was beautiful and portion size was very generous. We went on a week day and it was fairly busy but the service was just right and everyone we spoke to was friendly and helpful. Even when my son got confused and asked for something that didn't come with his dessert, they accommodated it anyway. All in all a lovely evening that I would thoroughly recommend to anyone looking for a good feed.

I've revised my first review and scored down from 4. When busy the service tends to suffer, being slow and you can become ignored. No urgency to please but always the excuse of being busy. Also the food quality can sometimes be variable. I would recommend for lunch or dinner during the week; weekends may disappoint with long waits (+40 min) and sub-average food. I've had enough average meals to now look for another, more reliable local eatery...shame. Beer is good

Eighteenth century pub dating back to 1716 with immense charm and character. To the Manager of this establishment, your staff are a credit to the pub and in particular the young lady who attended to us. They provided excellent customer service. To the traveller, enjoy the wealth of character this pub has to offer and I recommend you eat here too! The food is great!

Good food good service friendly staff

Five of us enjoyed a good family get-together meal last Sunday. The menu was a wee bit limited as some items on the menu had run out. It was late afternoon, but we expected all Sunday roasts to be available. However, the meals we did choose were all good, plentiful and very tasty. The service and atmosphere were up to scratch and we all enjoyed the whole experience. Wouldn't hesitate to visit again.

Staff friendly and quick to take order, waited over 1 hr for food and was very disappointed when it arrived.
