Green Oak Farm in Cheshire West and Chester

We have visited this pub a handful of times previous and have found most visits with food generally good. However slow bar service and staff looking less than happy and cheerful seems to be the norm. We planned to eat here Saturday 13th April, granted we were late going out as we were working late. We arrived at the resturant at 20:49pm and greeted by what appeared to be the manager who looked very confused. After some awkward seconds of silence he said "are we eating or just for drinks, the kitchen closed 10 minutes earlier" so 20:39pm.. as per the website its stated food hours Finnish at 22:00pm on a Saturday. Manager clearly wanted us to turn around and leave and walked away without any explanation of why the kitchen had closed 1 hour and 20 minutes early. Perhaps the less than happy staff wanted an early Finnish? I would suggest changing kitchen hours to save future low scoring reviews.

Bit disappointed as roasties tasted like they was reheated or kept warm for too long

Amazing lunch today, fab service as always, the food servers work there are wonderful. Food came very quickly, was hot and tasty as always. Nothing is too much trouble. Such a lovely place to go.

Fab Friday afternoon lunch. Brilliant every week. Great staff and service perfect and fast. We had the fish and chips which was amazing as always. Highly recommended.

I think that we were unlucky with our timing on going to this restaurant as it looked like it had been extremely busy before we arrived. There were lots of tables that needed clearing and not many staff to see to the bar and see to the restaurant area. We had the carvery which was average although the roast potatoes and parsnips were a highlight.

We have been coming here with our children since it opened. The 'play area' says under 5 however all aged children have always been permitted to go in and the disco is in this area. Today my son was told he had to come out because he is not under 5. Very disappointed because we have already purchased food so can't go elsewhere.

Hands down the worse meal I've ever had, wanted to take my dad & my 2year old son out for lovely lunch, but was seated in an area where every table was full of dirty plates and glasses, I moved them to sit down, thinking they've possibly had a busy service, I was there for 20 mins and only 3 tables in the section, when food arrived it was burnt, bland and just awful. My dad doesn't like a fuss and wouldn't allow me to return it so tried to eat it Just everything about the afternoon was dreadful. So unhygienic.

Shocking experience here today! Second time on the trot so I won’t be returning! Greene king want to look at how they staff this site! Manager wants to open her ears after letting people wait 15 mins at the bar, puts through the wrong order, no chef on deck so waiting another 10 minutes! hardly any veg I frequent this site at least once a week and travel out of my way to do so because at one stage it was probably the best carvery on the Wirral! Shocking guest experience unfortunately and service below an acceptable standard. Wasn’t even busy!

Me and my partner came for food this evening. The food was fantastic, but I was quite disappointed at the way members of staff were talking to other members of staff. Shouting at him in the bar area to clean one of the sections in the pub. I feel this should have been done in private instead infront of customers sat around the bar area.

Nice clean place with out side seating, 1 to 5yrs playing area inside, food good in general, but carvery a bit hit and miss, prices average, wheel chair accessible, plenty of parking.

We were seated right next to a noisy child play area in an otherwise nearly empty pub, no parental supervision was going on so it was bedlam. Dirty crockery. Food was very nice.

Food was fine but service was terrible from bar to waitress who come to table , carvery guy absolutely brilliant tho, Food come out at different time , not a smile on server's face . Behind the bar the 2 ladies just kept saying we will have bar staff in 20 minutes (I got the impression they didn't want to be behind bar Cakes where beautiful except for the éclair shocking to what they used to be like

Wasn't busy but still took an age for the service, ordered drinks via app, but still had to go to the bar and fetch my own.

You get what you pay for, it's decent pub food. Service is good when it's not too busy, but gets noticeably worse at busy times, particularly on Sundays. Decent as a local or if you're just coming off the motorway for a rest stop.

I go here quite often At least once a month Good variety of veg and meat on the carvery It is hit and miss depending on the time you go early is best food is more fresh I am annoyed because I went in to booked for Mother’s Day For 10 adults And to pay a deposit The lady said if I booked online I would get £10 off I also asked if I could use a blue light card with it being Mother’s Day she assured me that I could I booked online only to find out the voucher would be sent after Mother’s Day When we arrived for the meal I checked if we could use the blue light card and was told no not on Mother’s Day I said I was told I could when I booked the manger said oh you booked online so you couldn’t have be told that Just get your facts right please The meal was very nice I hate to be picky but I try to get best value and don’t like being misled and embarrassed when I know what I was told

I enjoyed my meal asked twice for an eclair and the team leader told me twice that they didn't have any I then seen another person had one so I went back the till and she told me again they didn't have any eclairs I said the person over there has one then she said well I will have to make you one now I said I wanted too so she then stomped off didn't even ask if I wanted it to take away so I told another staff member that I wanted them to take away he then said she's put them on plates for you so I said I want them to eat out they were very rude about this plus I work in another green king and would never speak to customers they way they did. I was there Wednesday after 13/03/24 about 3:40pm

Enjoyed my carvery meal today. Always a good pub to come to. Have been coming to this pub since it was built. First time I've met James today on the carvery he was really good, nothing was too much trouble. As always, will be back.

Staff went above and beyond tonight. Was very busy but expected with being Mother’s Day. Front of house staff who were seating us helped 8 of us get a seat when only 4 people were booked. Food was amazing, first time going out in Mother’s Day would book next year.

Food was great and arrived quickly. We ordered main courses and desserts. The staff member who served us (Mary) was lovely and friendly.

I only rated this 1 because I couldn’t rate it ZERO!! My family and I decided to go out to dinner and overall we were exited to spend time with each other and have a “nice” meal but we left VERY disappointed and distraught after our meal in the green oak farm. We first walked in and were greeted by a lovely lady at the front desk. We walked to our table and sat down and ordered our food at the bar and were seated back down. We waited for at least twenty minutes until our food came, every meal besides my sisters was served. she ordered the chicken strips. The waitress apologised and went to collect her meal. About ten minutes later, they ended up serving it to the wrong table! A bit ridiculous if you ask me!! Then we eat our food and it was not enjoyable at ALL. I had the carvery, it was dry and the roasted potatoes weren’t even the slightest bit crispy! The gravy was like water as if they just shoved the garden hose in the “gravy” pot and put gravy granules. Absolutely awful! Nothing unique there. We then decided to have some dessert WHAT WE NEVER EVEN RECEIVED !! and waited over 45 minutes and still no dessert on our table. We cancelled the order and the waitress seen us getting our coats on and quickly scurried to the dessert table. We didn't stop and told them to just forget it, we walked out upset, hungry and furious. Will not ever, EVER be visiting this place again.

We have been coming to Green Oak Farm for many months now, mostly for a carvery and can honestly say it's good value for money with a choice of all meats and a varied selection of vegetables etc. The staff are very pleasant and always attentive to our needs and requirements, especially Chris who served us our meal. He is always very polite, welcoming and his customer service is absolutely first class, and for this reason this is why we always come back and recommend this restaurant to others. A mention also to Mary on front of house who checks that everything is ok and is also a very pleasant and welcoming lady, and also to Ryan who is relatively new to the team. Thank you to all of you and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

A very busy pub lunch time luckily we were found a table. We ordered at the bar the carvery, 4 meats available, plenty of veg gravy etc, I had beef it was excellent very tender. The tables were cleared cleaned and prepared straight away on vacating. Very impressed with staffing and service. We will return.

Visited during busy Sunday evening. Ordered via app, drinks came after kids meals and one had to be swapped as soft drink was flat. Long queue for carvery which meant child in our party effectively ate her dinner alone. Good variety of veg which was regularly topped up and seemed very hot and fresh. Didn't try cakes but they were massive.

Nicest carvery we've ever been to! The meat was perfect, lots of veg to choose from. Nice clean bar and tables. I noticed there's even a little play area for younger kids. Plenty of parking and friendly staff. Spot on. We'll definitely be visiting again.

Chris was amazing. He took time to talk to us and welcome us for our carvery. Couldn’t decide which meat to have so he gave us all three. They were all cooked to perfection and went on to get the veg and potatoes and asked if we needed anything else. Great team member for this pub. Well done Chris. Definitely be back again soon

We had a great visit overall. My Mum had the Carvery Batch which was amazing. The meat and veg so fresh and well cooked. I had the Beer Battered Fish which was very disappointing, nothing like the picture. It looked like a shop bought fish. The staff were amazing our server was Adam he couldn't help enough.

I really liked this pub. There is plenty of FREE PARKING. The pub itself is spacious with little pockets of space for more privacy. Blended ramps for disabled access were needed, which led me to say wheel chair accessible. I only had chips, gravy, and bread and butter, but my were they delicious. I only dropped a star because I got a full glass of ice in my drink after saying I didn't want any ice and the girl was a bit put out when I asked for it to be swapped or the ice removed.
