We went for Sunday lunch. We had booked in advance but you might have got a table if you just turned up. There looked to be a few free. The sharing platter for a roast lunch was absolutely excellent. You can choose a selection of one or more form a list of 6 meats including lamb, pork, beef, chicken, ham and nut roast. We went for lamb, pork and ham. We were a group of four adults. We got a good portion of each meat along with plenty of roast potatoes, a pig in blanket each, Yorkshire pudding each and a bowl of four mixed veg. All great quality. The service was quick and very friendly. We had deserts as well. One got a cream tea and the scone was fresh and warm. My lemon tart with a coffee was good and both the tart and coffee were a good size. With main courses, including the roast above, averaging about £14 a head this is good value. The decor and presentation of the premises is also very nice. We are on holiday but I wish this pub was near my home. I would be here all the time. Excellent and highly recommended.

Absolutely awful customer service. Popped in earlier, politely asked if dogs are allowed. We were told yes, so ordered couple of drinks and asked for a bowl of water for our dog. The young lady behind the bar was quite abrupt, told us that she’ll try to find a bowl. She never did, totally ignored us afterwards. At least we would have expected to come and say that she’s not got a bowl, anything. We would have happily stayed for another drink but because her treatment, we decided to move to a more doggy friendly pub. Will never go there again.

Well what can I say about this little pub, it was a gem of a find. Lovely atmosphere and the bar staff very friendly and catered to our needs. Served us dessert really quickly.. really enjoyed it too. It was only a quick visit. But will definitely stay longer next time.

Very quaint pub! Not busy when visited Saturday afternoon & couldn’t see why as the beer was cheaper than elsewhere in the area & I could see this getting busy as day wears onto evening.

Walked past this venue multiple times whilst staying in the city, went in at about 19.00 and they had limited supplies of everything. There was also a nasty smell of toilets in the bar area. Would we return? No

This has become a bit of a drop in place whenever we are in Chester. Manages to combine a great old pub theme with a sport bar without any jarring clash. Decent range of drinks, good service and a nice vibe.

Dog friendly pub in Chester city centre. Has three very good handpulled cask beers on: Doombar, Wainwright's and Eagle Brewery's Bombadier. Very clean pub, quite spacious. Only one communal loo which was a bit smelly. Has lots of outdoor seating to the front on the pavement with well established, colourful hanging baskets. Sky sports and outdoor heaters if they're your thing.

Lovely place to grab a few thirst quenching pints whilst you people watch. Friendly staff. Great competitive prices too and so popular with the locals, always a good sign. We were staying up the road in another pub but this beat it hands down for value for money and atmosphere.

The Shropshire Pub was quite quiet for an Easter Friday. I could not understand why they had horse racing on the TV's at 10pm at night, I asked if we could have something else on as noone was watching it, they were not helpful. I left after one drink. Will I go back!

My twin brother Stephen and I were in Chester for two nights over the Christmas period and we visited many pubs ,The Shropshire Arms Pub was one such pub we visited ,a pub we always look forward to dropping into. I love the look of this pub ,the interior is modern but at the same time traditional,lovely decor and furnishings,a solid wood serving bar dominates the main room,tv's and big screens to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside looking out onto the busy Northgate Street. We were here on a Thursday night,Christmas market outside of pub was in full swing and walking in this pub it was packed ,a great festive atmosphere ,we ordered a pale ale from Calidonian Brewery,these were served in excellent condition ,we just kicked back and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub. My pale ale was really good,a crisp,well balanced pale ale,hints of toffee,hoppy and bursting with taste ,a classic British pale ale ,it was just so good being in such a lovely and lively pub enjoying a quality ale . We really enjoyed our pale ales in here before we moved on and as on every other visit to The Shropshire Arms Pub we had a great time. The Shropshire Arms Pub is easy to locate along Northgate Street,a street and area teeming with pubs,bars and restaurants and great architecture and a major tourist destination. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday,10am till midnight. A great pub,most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area or planning to visit Chester.

The Shropshire Arms is a very busy pub on Northgate street and was one of the many pubs we visited on a two day trip. Located in a great area of Chester where there are many pubs and bars and where the Christmas Market was situated.A very small pub with nice decor and lots of good seating options throughout the whole pubs interior'we visited here early in the evening and this pub was really busy when we went here.when we went here we had a cask ale from the Caledonian brewery which where superb and well priced. This is an excellent pub and is well worth a visit and very easy to locate from the Town Hall its a minute walk.(This is my first review of the Shropshire Arms). Opening Hours. Monday-Sunday-10.00-00.00.

What a fab little pub this is. It was really nice to walk in and be greeted with a smile. Rosie, our server was very easy to talk to and recommended other places and a good taxi company. Would definitely return

We have visited here a few times and it's always been great service and price. Last week was no different, the weather was lovely so we sat outside, did some people watching as it's a busy thoroughfare. My partner always comments that it's a great pint and he's a bit of a wizz when it comes to real ale etc. Personally I stick to the gin, great place to sit, relax and to just chill out.

Went on a bicycle ride with my girl and halted of for rewards. The staff were brilliant and administration was magnificent. The man serving outside even addressed the traffic superintendent to save somebody getting an exorbitant ticket. We need all the more cordial bars like this in Chester.

We have visisted the Shropshire Arms a few times since we have come out of lockdown at first we sat outside which at times was a pain as staff did not always come outside, but recently we sat inside the Shropshire Arms it is a gret pub with very friendly staff we will be back when we next visit Chester.

At the moment always feel tense drinking in pubs in doors, felt very comfortable drinking in here Connor and the girls made us feel welcome and comfortable from the start, sorted out immediately people not adhering to covid measures, thank you staff.

Tener una escala en Chester y quedar con amigos para salir por la noche. Llegué temprano y fue recibido por el amable y servicial personal del bar, que tomó nuestro pedido en el bar, nos mostró nuestra mesa y trajo las bebidas y tomó el pago en la mesa. Excelente personal y servicio, el único problema fue un poco de patada en una de las mesas, que se derramó fuera de la cual el gerente / barman se ocupó bien. Tomamos nuestras bebidas y seguimos adelante. Un viernes por la noche más un pub local que para forasteros / turistas. Habría marcado tan bien como estaba en algún lugar entre promedio y muy bueno.

I came here a day after a TERRIBLE experience at the Pied Bull (possibly the worst pub in Chester) and it was night and day. Friendly, easy atmosphere, helpful staff. The draughts taste like the lines are well cleaned. Couldn't have enjoyed my 2 hours here any more.

Went on a bike ride with my daughter and stopped of for refreshments. The staff were excellent and service was superb. The man serving outside even spoke to the traffic warden to save someone getting a costly ticket. We need more friendly pubs like this in Chester.

Estábamos visitando Chester, así que decidimos hacer una parada para tomar unas copas, estábamos pasando por Shropshire Arms, así que decidimos llamar, nos sentamos frente al pub ya que tenían alrededor de 8 mesas para que no usaras las mejores vistas, ya que teníamos trabajo al lado del pub, pero no quitó valor a nuestra experiencia con la bebida. No tenías que entrar al pub ya que un caballero tomaba tus pedidos y traía las bebidas a tu mesa, incluso trajo la máquina de tarjetas a tu mesa, pero podríamos haber pagado en efectivo si quisiéramos, solo dos lagers para elegir, de las cuales Carling & Coors Me tomé una pinta de Carling a las 3. 80 bastante bueno para Chester, ya que los precios pueden ser bastante altos. Volveremos en el futuro.

A good City centre pub.Great to sit outside in the Summer and sometimes in the winter.Good for watching football but not always taken over by the football.The upstairs room is great with a good view of Northgate street and is a nice quiet place to sit when not busy.Always nice to pop in for a drink.

Went in Sunday 8th december, some rude man posing as a landlord put out that he actually had a customer, even though it was opening later than everyone else. No hot drinks (but only for the first hour, embarrassing) and no mulled wine near Xmas. It was great in there last year, buzzing and busy with loads of customers and polite staff. Clearly on its way down, won't be going back.

Called in to sample the cask ales on Sunday afternoon at just 3 quid a pint. It was buzzing while the football was on the TV. We called back in again at 9pm and it was deserted, what a shame.

visiting Chester we came across this pub while looking for somewhere to watch the footie.. it seemed to be a local which can sometimes be a little daunting for visiting folk.. The lanlord was very welcoming.. Great pub.. Great atmosphere.. They dont do food but they let you take your own from the many surrounding takeaways.. which I think is great..

Nice pub. Reasonable choice of well kept cask beers. Friendly welcome. Pleasant outside seating area for a smoke, but expect to be tapped up by people without a smoke. Spoils it a little bit .

Rather cavernous pub in the Northgate opposite the cathedral. Wooden floors,but a gigantic, blaring tv, obliterating conversation. Steep climb to the loo. Not a very relaxing place.

Bien . . . Aparecí aquí a media tarde un domingo, y fue una gran sorpresa. Edad promedio en la década de los 50 con música de 60 saliendo de la discoteca. Loco ocupado y 3 una pinta. El lugar estaba lleno.No es lo que esperaba, pero la gente se divertía mucho.No es realmente mi taza de té, pero ciertamente fue para otros!
