Worst food the Sunday dinner was the worst I have had it was so dry and vegetables were so hard and pigs in blanket were black and burnt what a waste of money £47 pounds

Great pub with lots of character. First time at this venue but it won’t be our last. Lovely pub with lots of different rooms to dine or drink in. Very polite and attentive staff. Food was top class and it goes without saying, you get what you pay for.

Had really nice meal on a Tuesday evening to celebrate our planning permission after going to the George and Dragon to find it closed - glad it was, as we had a lovely meal with great, friendly service.

Really enjoyed eating here last night. Wet and miserable outside, log fire and friendly staff inside. Food was well prepared, fresh and tasty. Comfortably busy. Returned for Sunday lunch on Father's Day with family. Roast pork lunch was excellent, as was the service. Visited July 24 lunchtime to try new menu. Ribeye steak ciabatta was tasty and plenty big enough. Enjoyed it.

Called in for a quick pint and food on way home , good selection of beers 🍻 and food was amazing, atmosphere warm and welcoming, will be calling in again , well done 👏

Eaten here on three occasions the first two were very good experiences, we ate here recently on a Sunday (early afternoon) The sharing roast platters for two are no longer available which was disappointing. I ordered the fish and chips, I’m certain it said it included mushy peas and salt and vinegar scraps, the peas were on the plate when it arrived but no scraps, I was hungry so didn’t pull them up on this and thought that I could have been mistaken anyway, peas were only luke warm, very small fish portion and just something similar to what you can buy frozen from a supermarket and not many chips. The portion size was very poor for the price, around £16.50 from memory. The two roasts that were also ordered, one chicken and one beef, apart from not enough gravy, the feedback was positive. Maybe a small jug of gravy on the side could be considered. One steak pie, no complaints there, but again in my opinion it was a poor sized portion for the price paid. The remaining meal got served as the one not ordered, apologies were made by the waitress and around 5 minutes later the correct meal arrived. Service was slow on the whole, but the staff were very polite and friendly which is a positive. On the whole it was overpriced for what we received, hence no tip was given, and we are usually good tippers. I will monitor the feedback on here and will probably try it again if the reviews significantly and consistently improve.

I went here yesterday 8th July 2024 We were a party of 5 adults 1 child: We were met by a friendly team member, she was very helpful. The food was delicious, I had a great tasting cheese/potato pie. The only food missing from the mains was a ‘fish dish’ which I would have liked to have seen. Other than that….. Everyone enjoyed the food 5 stars! The friendly, helpful staff 5 stars! Give this place a try you won’t be disappointed:

I was terribly disappointed in the food, been to this restaurant plenty of times for the Sunday Roast however, no roast turkey or sharing platter this was replaced with half a chicken on the bone, the beef was wafer thin and fatty, Yorkshire pudding tasted of grease and not the normal size. Roast potatoes were soggy the small amount of veg was hidden under the meat and hardly any gravy. Understated the restaurant changed in June and is now solely owned by the brewery. Waiter staff lovely but when you pay good money for a roast you expect it to be worth it. Not the only disappointment customer table next to use too commented on the quality. Finally no cider other than fruit something else they have got rid of. Sadly will not be eating her again .

Been here many a time and recommended to family and friends but this afternoon was very disappointing.. very lightly cooked chicken, 2 roast pots, a spoonful of mash… slither of gravy, minimal veg just not worth the £50 myself and partner paid .. feel really let down and will not be recommending again.. we’ve had better at the Toby carvery for a 1/4 of the price! Did not complain whilst there but after thinking long and hard I will do so via email!! Has this changed hands? Chef??

Ordered two fish sandwiches. Wasn't clear that there were chips with it on the menu (neighbouring table did the same) so ordered chip to share. No mention by the bar staff that they come with chips when ordering. Food arrived with semi warm provided chips, after conveying that we weren't aware it came with them, he offered to send them back. My partners fish was mainly hard batter. When asked if everything was ok late on in the meal my partner conveyed our thoughts and nothing was really said back. Not dealt with at all. Have eaten here 5 or 6 times. Should we go back???? Doubt it

Pork Belly Sunday roast is delicious, all the sides tasted like they were just cooked and really high quality. Huge Yorkshire pud had that moorish soft pastry taste. Large Garden area out the back with plenty of tables and kids climbing frame etc. Very quiet around here so it's a glorious place to be on a sunny day! Only areas of improvement I can think of are some of the tables outside need to be sanded & painted, the pork could have been 10-20% more succulent (it's still up there though) and maybe the same with the mash but that's a personal preference. Oh, you really need to advertise the Yorkshire Puddings on the website, if I'd known about them I would have stopped looking at other places immediately! £22 for Roast, the best Yorkshire pud in the world and a drink. 10/10 and will be coming back.

Lovely old pub. We were staying at Belmont Camping nearby and it was nice to be able to walk there. About 15 minute walk. Very welcoming and friendly staff. We ate in the bar, as we had a dog. The restaurant area looked good. Food served quickly and home cooked. Pie, fish and chips were very good. Children had fish goujons which was nice but pricey at £8.95. Would recommend.

Don't get to visit here often but never disappointed with food. Wonderful & quirky building with a fantastic atmosphere, large garden at rear & seating at front. Food was amazing, freshly prepared & cooked and DELICIOUS! Went all out as birthday treat so 3 courses, drink & coffee.

Thank you to Paul and his staff.They cancelled a meal on my party in December because of circumstances beyond their control.Paul did however offer us complimentary meals which we finally used last week.The coal fire was a delight and the food was good with the service excellent.

Booked a table online. Ordered food hadn't arrived after an hour. Asked if the food had started to be cooked, if not we will happily go. Was then told if we want to go we can do and not be charged for the drink we had. Strange and poor customer service. Was our first time visit. Can't comment on food as we didn't have any

Allways fantasic food and service

This pub is a little gem steeped in history. Very English and very cosey. My wife and I really enjoyed our visit. The food is affordable and plentiful, and the staff are chatty and friendly. The manager kindly told me about the history of the pub which was so interesting. If ever you're in the area, I recommend a visit for a shandy and a meal.

Cant leave a minus review so 1 it is. Popped in and asked for table for 6 people with 3 dogs (dog friendly pub) was told by a waiter that he would find out while grinning, came back said there was only a 4 and a 2 table available which he pointed out in the bar, we asked when a table big enough would be free, again waiter grinned and said I don't know and then said about 8.30pm so we said we would take the 4 and the 2, the grinner then disappeared again, came back with the "manager" who said the kitchen was under alot of pressure and they couldn't accommodate us....while we stood outside and ordered a takeaway I read the reviews about food quality and prices so think we dodged a bullet and a high bill....manager needs to read reviews as hes been complained about several times, staff need to learn manners. Won't return there again. Very rude management and staff..... they need to remember that customers pay their wages.

Had lovely lunch here on 15/2/24, with friends after a walk. The staff were very helpful and attentive. The pub was warm with a real fire and comfortable seats. Price of meal reasonable compared with other pubs. Would go again.

We had lunch on a Saturday. Staff were friendly and efficient. They food was nice. It was a bit cold in the pub and it did lack a bit of atmosphere.

Lovely food. Just strange that the nut roast (ve), that comes with vegetable stock gravy is only served with goose fat roasties and no alternative offered so we had to pay for cauliflower cheese as an extra rather than instead of. And no Yorkshire pudding with the nut roast? Not much of a roast really if vegetarian/vegan.

Stopped in for a break mid-walk and couldn't resist trying the Sunday roast. So glad we did because WOW! Everything was delicious and the yorkshires were (no joke) the size of our heads. They treated our dog like an absolute king too and gave him some turkey free of charge which was so kind. Fab food, fab service and a really lovely atmosphere. 100% recommend

This is the second Sunday roast we’ve had in a couple of weeks & it’s up there with the best. A warm welcome & cosy feel with roaring fires. Good service, friendly & efficient staff & tasty food…excellent all round.

Visited whilst staying at Belmont Hall Campsite. Ordered sandwiches for lunch. Portions were large and food was amazing. Dogs allowed in the bar area and treats available too. Sunday Yorkshire pudding burrito was huge and definitely recommended. Great pint too. We shall definitely be back!

Excellent food, drink and service from start to finish. We booked a last minute (5 days ago) meal for 21 of us to celebrate a family birthday on New Years Day. The service we got was second to none and the food was excellent. We chose widely from across the menu, with steaks, fish and chips, salmon, beef, salads, sandwiches and children’s meals. The food was excellent which mirrored the service. Would definitely recommend for a family meal and the function room was a great space. We will most definitely be back.

Second visit and consistently good this time. 8 fab meals and great service. A shame we live so far away! Steaks cooked perfectly and good portions. We chose widely across the menu and everyone agreed - we will be back again!

My first time here, but definitely it won't be my last. A beautiful country pub with lovely staff serving outstanding food. I had "COD, MONKFISH & KING PRAWN THERMIDOR, roast potatoes & buttered greens 23.00" which far exceeded any expectations I might have had. Everything seemed freshly prepared and cooked, and was memorably good. I highly recommend a visit.

I went last night with my friend and wasn't happy. First of all, I've ordered some French Rose, when they brought it over and disappeared... it was something completely different. I went over to the waitress who was with the manager. I explained and the manager told me it is because they've ran out and thought this one would taste similar. How unprofessional and could have told us right from the start. You see my friend only wanted Rose, so I went with the flow. It was that USA one that tastes horrible, not a fan. Didn't offer any form of discount or anything. When my chicken kebab arrived, it was so tasteless and chicken itself wasn't great, tasted cheap. Rice was bland. I would have been happier with a cheap Maccies than that messed up service and rubbish food. Never going back! I will be telling everyone how unprofessional their service is and need to improve on quality of food if you're paying that much!

Been here twice now. The food is fantastic and portion size is good, you come out feeling full. The menu is interesting, slight touches of an Asian influence. The manager will guide your choice if you need him to. Food quality is excellent, there is nothing to fault. You know how sometimes you eat out, really enjoy the meal, then on the way home decide it wasn't quite as good as you thought at the time? Well, that doesn't happen here. The atmosphere in the pub is very relaxing, it would be easy to stay all evening. If you don't go, then I am afraid you are missing a treat!

Visited for a friends birthday on 4th November. We had a fabulous evening, lovely food and wonderful service. We had visited earlier in the year and the pub/service has improved massively since then. Would highly recommend a revisit if you've been before as this time it was fantastic!

First time at this lovely place. My husband and I Absolutely loved the Roast dinner and crumble to finish. Not only did the food look good, the taste was The Best roast we have had at a pub restaurant, by far. The chef is only 24 apparently.. very talented! Delicious food. Can't wait to come back in the next couple of weeks 🤗 We ate every part of that meal & pudding . Thank you

Visited yesterday for a special family occasion, the food was absolutely delicious and enjoyed by everyone. The service was great. Cold when we went in but once the heating came on it was pleasant to sit there. The only thing I would say is that you ask on the booking if celebrating and I did add this but nothing was done for this occasion would of been nice to have a special touch at the table.

Great renovations and new menu. One of the best roast dinners around. Large portion sizes and fast service.

First time here since it was refurbished following covid. In the old days it did a good luch but not now. Slow service clearly due to staffing issues and overpriced food for the quality and quantity. The Chicken pate starter was ... £8.25!!! It was the smallest and thinnest piece of pate I've ever seen with one slice of thin toast cut in 2. Far to much butter on the plate for some reason and badly presented with tatty cress. My main course was a fish barm with french fries (fish croquet!!) smothered in tartare sauce. That was £9.75 and a side of chips at £4.50. Never again !! even though the Holts draught stout was good. Even the tiny container of ketchup was so small that it was difficult to get the teaspoon in. The tomato ketchup wasn't heinz probably a cheap and nasty catering ketchup. There are several pubs within a couple of miles that provide better service, better food and all at a lower price.

We had a great meal for 4 on Monday evening. Food was excellent, wine very good Rioja and service friendly. Having recently had a very disappointing meal at another pub on the A559 that we usually take friends to, was relieved to find good standard here. Marked down on atmosphere because it was very empty though probs not fair given it was Monday!

We were staying at a local campsite and looking for some food in the evening. Phoned ahead to check they were serving food on a Monday, polite you man responded that they were indeed and no need to book as they had plenty of space. First impressions of the the pub were great, great ambience, we were greeted and shown to a table. Food really was excellent in presentation and taste, in fact so good the next table said it was the best meal they’d ever had. Head chef came out and had a brief chat in order to thank him. It really was that good. So overall an excellent visit, highly recommended if you’re local, and if we’re in the area we’ll call in again.

Went a few months back the menu and food was amazing! Great service consider it was a Friday evening, only down side was the table opposite letting there little sh1t head son run wild around the restaurant and it completely ignored him while they ate with there other kids 😂 😂 I had 2 kids with me my daughters 6-9 an even they was getting annoyed with him shouting and running past... Oh well I suppose each to there own and the mess they left kind of explained they was just a scummy family, other than that absolutely spot on 👌🏻

Called in to meet family who had been sailing at budworth. We Had a large table (11 of us ) and enjoyed dinner outside as it was a warm evening and the food was very good. But what made it even more special was the service ! The staff Bailey and Amy were fabulous. Both of them couldn’t do enough for us and made us feel very welcome even though it was getting late and they could have been horrified to see a large table so late on. Had a thouroughly lovely evening there. Would definitely return again

Hadn’t booked as wasn’t sure if we were going until last minute - Tuesday night 7 pm. Decided not to have starters as none of us have particularly big appetites. Between us we chose fish and chips, Burger (without the bun) and cod,squid, monkfish & king prawn Thermidor. My friend had burger which she said was good, another had fish & chips - which was huge and reportedly very nice - looked great too and I had the third dish which was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! I honestly can’t remember the last time I have been able to give such positive feedback for food in the Northwich area. This dish was absolutely exceptional! Served with plenty of fresh veg and I opted for chips rather than the roast potatoes on the menu. Sadly the chips had a slight fridge/freezer taste to them but the Thermidor sauce was SO tasty it wasn’t too noticeable - only when eaten on their own. Overall though I was particularly impressed. Service was quick, efficient and very pleasant. Would I recommend? Definitely!! What a pleasure to eat at this venue. Hope this is the norm. Compliments to the chef in particular. Thankyou.

Visited as we have been trying local pubs/ restaurants’ Sunday lunches, and this was next on our list. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. Calamari starter was chewy and overcooked, as was the chicken - dry and bland. We both had the beef for mains, and on first glance it looked lovely; however the beef was inedible. It was grey, looked like cheap thin cuts, and extremely rare. I’m no stranger to rare meat, but this was almost blue. It just did not taste nice at all.. my partner even commented that he wouldn’t have given those scraps of beef to the dog. The Yorkshire pudding was huge, but very thick and doughy. Roast potatoes were just ok. Mashed potato and gravy was tasty.. and the service was fast; but unfortunately that’s the only positive I can highlight about our meal. Atmosphere was almost nonexistent, didn’t feel like a cosy country pub.. despite the misleading outside appearance. Potentially an off day, but it wasn’t particularly busy at all. Won’t be back in a hurry.

Visited with my dad and auntie. All had nice meals with good portion sizes. The steak sauce was homemade and really nice and I liked the menu. My dads fish looked really fresh and nice would go again, also catered for GF

Undoubtedly this pub now has the finest food in the area, a title previous held by a nearby venue. It is standard pub fare but with a serious emphasis on quality ingredients, presentation and expertly preparation. A friendly welcome from the manager Paul and courteous and attentive service from the staff makes visiting this pub a joy.

Fantastic roast dinner best I can remember ever having. I had the mixed meats, wife had the beef. Perfect roast potato’s, perfect mash. All the veg was lovely and creamy and cooked just right. We had a side of cauliflower cheese which was yummy, Yorkshire puddings massive and crisp. Service was excellent as well. We sat in the part that allowed dogs as we had our Golden Retriever Ruby and plenty of room for her to lie under the table out the way. Cannot wait to return, I normally have to cook a roast for my wife every Sunday as loves them, but this beat mine hands down. Thank you
