Lovely pub. Excellent staff and beers served perfectly. At the other end of the scale - the toilets are beautiful and clean and well stocked. Must visit when in Cardiff

Old school pub in the heart of Splott, easy to get to from the city centre. Pool table, food and beer. You can watch sport here, friendly staff.

We'd never been to this pub before, so we have no experience of what it was like before the reopening in October last year, so this is only my review of my first time in this pub. We thought it was a lovely pub. No gimmicks, no kids running round, no dogs barking at each other across the bar... It's just a traditional pub in Cardiff city centre with a lovely atmosphere.

Popped in for a bite to eat. This pub has had a bad reputation, but we felt safe enough in there and the landlord was amenable and approachable. The food was okay. Not the worst I've had, and there is a new menu starting. We agree to give the food another go sometime soon, just to be able to have a clearer picture. The prices are cheaper than general, and the service was very good. We were there in the afternoon, workmen came in and we felt comfortable there at this time. Unfortunately the reputation for night time is why I would not chose to go here at night. That said, we like to support local businesses the best we can, and this place is trying its best to attract more clientele. Also does karaoke.

Friends and I visited here monthly for many, many years. It was a classic Brains pub with classic decor. It had some of the best kept beers (Brains) anywhere. We were keen to return when it recently reopened. If you'd never visited before, you'd regard it as a "nice" pub. But, "The Cottage" is no more. The bar "person" was engrossed in her phone, the place smelled heavily of varnish, and all the nostalgic Welsh memorabilia prints have been disposed of. They alone would at least remind you that you were back in the landmark Cottage. The nail in the coffin was that the (just) two Brains beers on display were "off." I have no idea if food is on offer as the kitchen hatch at the far end is decorated over, and no menus were on display. We left for The Old Arcade with its well-kept and full range of Brains Beer. A few days later, I met other friends who were also regulars before the closedown, and they too felt the same. I'll probably return out of nostalgia and curiosity some time in the hope that I can recapture the memory.

Disappointed after waiting for ages to reopen. The Brains Dark was appalling and apparently they dont serve lemonade so I had to have a lager top with cloudy Lemonade which was awful. Will not be returning which is so sad as it held so many memories for us.

A great central public house with plenty of character. Plenty of drinks at very reasonable prices served by friendly staff. I've been coming here for years, such a wonderful atmosphere on your own or with a group.

Great sunday dinner , pre book is best , good food , good value ,we will be back , thankyou .

We visited the Cottage (Lisvane, Cardiff) on 31st January. The lunch was lovely. Jessica and Sophie were very efficient and friendly.

Great little pub. Very welcoming....and under new management

The Cottage has been through a few transformations and managements in the past several years, but the current owners have done well with it. Hosting regular events and karaoke, there's always something to do, and if you're more chilled they also have two pool tables. Drinks are reasonably priced and children are welcome up to adult's time. Nice little community pub if you want to pop in for a pint.

Traditional pub serving lovely local cider. Great service from a young bar man who was busy on his own during the afternoon. Accepted Scottish currency which is uncommon but hugely appreciated. Looking forward to returning to experience the same warm hospitality again soon.

Our visit on a very quiet Sunday afternoon started well with polite service from the young barman. After an hour my wife and I were recognised by two old friends from our days in London 25 years ago. We talked across the almost empty room for 20 minutes then they moved to a nearer table. At some time around 5pm the barman went off duty, the rudeness of his replacement was something to behold (but not too often), I asked for his name and he claimed to be Trevor Michels the landlord. Our troubles seemed to start when my wife commented on the very poor condition and cleanliness of the ladies toilet. From then on any movement we made was greeted by shouted instructions from Trevor. We asked if, as a party of four from two households we could sit at the same table but Trevor claimed we did not know our friends (obviously based on his extensive knowledge of my life). Trevor threatened to call the police and then asked us to leave, so four pensioners went out into the heavy Cardiff rain never to return.

Right in the heart of the bustle of Cardiff this 'old fashioned boozer' is anything but. Welcoming staff and management, covid secure and a great selection of food and drink. Maintaining its' history but with a modern approach. Highly recommended. We'll be returning for sure.

me and my friend went to the cottage for a few drinks and some food the other day, although it was quiet it was still a nice vibe. The thing that stood out the most was one of the best (and most attractive) barmen I had ever come into contact with. I believe his name was Ashley. We'd been here before so I knew he was new, but he was so polite, professional and friendly, the entire experience was an absolute delight! I would come back just to have the pleasure of being served by Ashley again. He will definitely go far in the hospitality industry!

Nice cozy traditional pub. Friendly staff, good food, great drink selection and cheap beer. In the busy city centre it was lovely to find this lovely little pub. I enjoyed both food and drinks on several occasions during my weekend to Cardiff. Places like this are what makes me want to come back to Cardiff soon.

From wat I remember back in 2000 when I worked in Ocean Park House, East Tyndall Street was an ok place to go at lunch time. Forgot about it until today whilst staying in Cardiff.

Went to the cardiff cottage for evening meal with wife.Busy due to football however service was very good and quick.The burger was super and very tasty.Super atmosphere and very welcoming.

Good pub food served in an authentic atmosphere. The staff are wonderful and make you feel at home, as if you are in a local village pub.

Great family pub and great staff

We visited here 2 times this week while working away from home. Whilst the pub was very quiet we were greeted with warmth and friendliness. We can't comment on what it's like at weekends but we would certainly visit again when we return to the area.

We don't know much about beers in the UK, so they allowed to try a couple before actually purchasing a pint. The staff is extremely amiable and eager to help. Congrats. The atmosphere is predictable, but the pictures on the wall add a touch of thinking and contribute to the conversation. The vanilla ice cream is superb. And the restrooms are OK. An excellent sample of welsh hospitality.

Great traditional pub with a great atmosphere and friendly family owners who will go the full mile for you. LOVE GOING THERE! ! Allison and Mathew are great hosts supported by Liz and new chefs Andrew and Chris. Quality ales and wonderful food in a newly appointed 4 star pub and kitchen ! What more can you ask for.
