My experience at tera Nova was absolutely dreadful! Staff was very poor service, rlly rude! Wasn't very sympathetic at all to the fact me and my friend, Miss Baston, had been on a long tiring run, all we wanted was a pint and food and they couldn't offer either! Nope the kitchen is closed they told us, and you can't order a pint without food. Absolute farce I tell you, no consideration for us at all. They need decide if they are a cafe or a bar and go all in because the place they are running at the moment is unacceptable. Me and my friend went to June lounge instead, much better service and atmosphere, even a candle lit dinner! We then were greeted with even better food at wellfield fish and chip shop 😋 the service was some of the best I've ever experienced, letting us even pay on bank transfer! So accepting! The food was so so so delicious and I will be visiting again because boss man was the definition was kind. Absolutely terrible to do not visit tera nova at any cost or at any time now, or ever!

Nunca había estado en Cardiff y estaba en la zona el sábado 6 / 9 y complacido de encontrar una cafetería junto al encantador lago en Roath Park. Gran cafetería, entró alrededor de la 1 pm creo y estaba un poco confundido si tenía que sentarme en una mesa y ordenar, pero el miembro del personal servicial dijo que ordenar en el mostrador y luego tomar asiento en cualquier lugar, elegí sentarme en el bar ya que estaba solo y justo después de un almuerzo rápido sobre la marcha. Soy vegana así que pedí una encantadora envoltura de salchicha vegana con papas fritas y salsa de chile (creo) y té, ¡estaba delicioso! Personal servicial y se puso muy ocupado en el área del mostrador con los clientes haciendo cola. Sin duda volvería.

We stumbled upon this lovely park café after moving our daughter into university, and it was such a fantastic find! The food was incredible. I had the cheeseburger and chips, while my other daughter tried their stone-baked pizza. Everything was so fresh and delicious. The chips were like crispy roast potatoes, and the cheeseburger came in a soft brioche bun—packed with flavour. The pizza was made fresh, and you could really taste the difference. What really stood out were the little touches that made the experience even better. While waiting in the queue to order, the staff gave out free tasters, which was such a nice surprise. Everyone working there was smiling and friendly, making the whole atmosphere so welcoming. And the cakes—oh, the cakes! They looked amazing, and although we didn’t get a chance to try them this time, we’re definitely coming back for an afternoon to enjoy them. This place is a gem, and we can’t wait to return!

Asistimos a una fiesta en la Terra Nova (por un aniversario de bodas). Nick y el equipo eran geniales. Desde reservar la habitación hasta ir a través de opciones de menú, eran útiles, y nada era demasiado problema. La pizza recién cocinada seguía llegando y estaba delicioso. El servicio de bar era bueno y tenía suficiente elección. Los anfitriones habían añadido la opción de hora extra, lo que significaba que teníamos la habitación hasta las 23 : 00 . Sin duda recomendaría Terra Nova a amigos. ¡Gracias a todos los que nos cuidaron anoche!

We really enjoyed the 60th Wedding Anniversary evening of Ray and Sue Elford at Terra Nova last night. Jan worked very hard making sure everyone had Prosecco and I would really like to thank her for making me a special gluten free pizza. Thank you Jan the pizza was delicious. Regards Sue Cooper

Great location on the lake, with a simple but very delicious menu. The food served up by Jan was first class and just what was required after a walk around the lake.

The best burgers I’ve ever tasted 🙏🙌 food was hot, drinks were cold, coffee was delicious and perfectly made. Despite being so busy, food came within 15 minutes and was beautifully cooked. Spoke with jan inside the cafe, her customer service and communication skills were exemplary, she made us feel so welcome and our 18 month old son was fully accommodated. Well done 👍

We went there on Sun afternoon. We chose kids meals with soft drinks. One with with nuggets an the other with sausages. The portions were huge. Could have fed 2 children with one meal. Service was good an despite being told it would around 45 mins to get the food after ordering. It only took around 10mins. So recommended. If u chose a children's meal, make sure ur hungry..

Such a beautiful spot! The owner is super helpful in advising of their products to cater for my wheat intolerance. This cafe is super welcoming to all, including babies, children and dogs. Signs inform they provide not only dog treats, but baby food and sanitary products on request. My 3 year old loved the fuss made of him and sitting by the water, watching the swans whilst eating our breakfast. We look forward to returning to try the home-made pizzas- which apparently can be made gluten free too 😀.

I had a wonderful experience at Terra Nova Cafe this morning. Despite our wellbeing walking group being rained out, we were warmly welcomed by the cafe's team and had the pleasure of chatting with Nick, the manager. We discovered a mutual passion for supporting people, and Nick's kindness and enthusiasm inspired us to start a wellbeing games group at the cafe on Monday mornings at 9:30 am. Thanks to Nick's support, we'll be offering free wellbeing advice and fun games like chess, cards, and drafts. Keep an eye out for our poster with the start date, and come join us for some uplifting conversations and games!

Great place to stop off after a good morning walk. Staff are very pleasant and always make you feel welcome. Nice choice of coffees and a little discount for pensioners :-)

I wisited Terra Nova on Friday 2nd of August around 1p.m. Hot dog bun was cold and sausadge inside was just warm from outside and not properly cooked after more than 30 minutes wait.Doesn't looked appetising like in the foto near the counter. The table outside was wobbly, because of that it was hard to eat.When family with kids next to me finished to eat nobody take away dishes from their tables as they occupied 2 tables and cleaned it ,even there was some food left on the floor under the tables.Also,2 high chairs were left and blocked the way.People just came ,moved dishes by themselves to the next table and one of the high chairs too and even wiped the table by themselves too to be able to sit there. I came to this cafe second time .First time I just had a coffee.It was completely disappointed as my cappuccino tasted like milk with water.After second time when I had a bad experience this time with my food I will never come to this cafe again.

First time here. Food was delicious. The staff were all so amazing and attentive. They were giving out free biscuits, lollies and cake for those waiting in line and people sat close by which I thought was nice. The manager approached us and offered us some water. With how warm it was we were very happy with this. He was polite and friendly and went around chatting with everyone and making sure everyone was have a lovely time. 10 out of 10 will definitely go back.

- And that was a Tuesday morning.!! Dread to think what its like there on a weekend or even worse a bank holiday. Beautiful cafe with fantastic food - good menu. Breakfast was delicious & from what I could see others having looked good too. Maybe they will have to extend the cafe or build another one opposite the lake or nearby - as the place was heaving and the que was long. The park itself is lovely - very well maintained with nice views.

Lovely place to sit and watch the world go by. Friendly staff, amazing food (proper burgers!) and generally a nice spot to spend a sunny afternoon!

The staff was really nice and we even got a free lolly and the some of the desserts and different versions like kinder and lotus(biscoff)

Our thanks to everyone who came along to our celebration at Terra Nova Cafe, Roath Park last week. Delicious food, perfect venue, lovely service, and great company.

Came with some friends for Cream Tea, and had an amazing experience. Nick and the team, went above and beyond to accomdate a few requests we had due to allergies or requirements: such as one person cant eat fish - they substituted for an extra ham sandwich, a member of our group doesn't drink so was offered Orange juice or Apple juice as an alternative along with Tea already on offer. Freshly made sandwiches and delicious cakes, with amazing scones with Jam and Cream. I could not fault the food, venue, service or team who we came into contact with on the day. Madri served on tap was great, so a few husbands had a quick pint whilst waiting for us to finish up, which made them happy. Would definitely recommend.

Having pizza and cappuccino with my son. It is a bit loud inside, but then it is raining, so everyone is crowded inside. But hey, overall it’s good food with a good view; everyone is enjoying. Treat yourself!

Had a lovely afternoon tea with friends today. Staff very attentive couldn’t do enough for us. Food was amazing. If you are are a cake lover this is the place to go. First time here and what a fantastic place. Beautiful views of the lake with seating in and outside . Prices reasonable compared to other places I’ve visited. I had a hot dog and my friend had a pizza 😋 both very tasty with a great selection of sauces and coleslaw which comes with it. We had a walk around the park and had to pop back in for a coffee and a cake from their lovely selection in the fridge. Will definitely come back such a nice atmosphere to meet friends and family. Oh and I have to say the staff were so friendly and patient and helped us to choose our order thank you to the staff we felt very comfortable 👍

Visited yesterday with my daughter, and grandchildren. We had hot chocolates and brownies and they were delicious! A lovely visit, staff were polite. Will be back to have pizzas on our next visit, a couple next to us were sharing one and it looked delicious.

Visited this morning, decided to have a oat latte and a delicious custard slice which was the size of a house brick! Not sure what the previous reviewer is on about, as I was queuing I noticed staff were steaming fresh milk and a lad took the jugs out from the counter and replaced them with clean Jugs. Some people really are horrible! I had a lovely visit enjoyed the view with a nice hot coffee. Such a nice spot and friendly staff. Will be returning to try a fruit tart as they looked yummy.

Really wanted to like it here but we were really disappointed. Don't go here if you have allergies as they absolutely won't cater for you. The only thing they can provide are pre packaged sandwiches that really aren't great and are basic at best. A friends Pizza had long piece of tissue in which they apologised and offered a refund for but still not great. The view of the lake is lovely if sat on the terrace, toilets are decent too. WiFi doesn't work and coffees were cold so overall, we won't be back.

Had afternoon tea here today. There was a great assortment of cakes, sandwiches and mini quiche all of which were delicious. The owner was so kind and friendly, honestly couldn’t do enough for us. Threw in an extra cup of tea, a salad and a bottle of Prosecco for the birthday girl free of charge! Can’t recommend this place enough.

Fantastic food with great service. Perfect place to relax and have a bite to eat looking out over the lake. Dog friendly and the staff are amazing.

This could be an amazing place to visit but sadly it's lacking in so many areas. The entrance off the parks main path is dark & gloomy & was partially obstructed by a catering appliance. The main dining area overlooks the lake so it's a great location but it smelt of chip fat, looked grubby and in need of an update. The odd layout inside meant that a long queue snaked through from the main serving section to the right, where you place your order, so if you were sat "bar style" by the windows, you'd also be right next to a queue of people waiting to be served. The area to the right as you enter was more spacious and airy but sadly lacked any atmosphere or character. The view is nice but could be improved by clean windows! There is also an outside area but again, very basic and lacking any pretty or tempting features. I guess the star attraction is the view of the lake & if you need somewhere to sit & shelter then this could be your place. Otherwise, I found it to be underwhelming & a missed opportunity to be so much better. Food was mediocre, staff looked stressed and unsmiling. Not a place I'll be rushing back to anytime soon.

Just had an incredible bacon brioche roll with a coffee. Sat in the window looking out at the lake, lighthouse and swans. Staff are always very polite and welcoming. What a fantastic start to the day. This isn't my first visit. I've been going for years and there's always a gorgeous selection of cakes. Love it.

Very subpar coffee (it was burnt) and I had quite an abrupt person serving me. By far the best part of this cafe is its location. It's right next to the lake and the views are stunning. My advice? Get a coffee elsewhere and sit on one of many benches around the lake.

Great place for breakfast by the lake

We love coming to this cafe after buggy fit, the staff and owner are always very friendly! They have baby changing facilities that you can use whether you’re buying something or just visiting the lake (which is a lifesaver with a baby). Would highly recommend.

Had my surprise 30th birthday party here last night and it could not have gone better! The food was great, the facilities they offered were all you could need, and Nick and the staff were so friendly. I really can’t recommend Terra Nova enough. Thank you!

You stand in the queue for 20 mins due to sheer incompetence of service and then they inform you breakfast stopped 10 minutes ago. They really couldn’t give a ****!!

Love this cafe. It’s so friendly, so helpful, stunning views. All staff are always so friendly and welcoming. The food is absolutely delicious, the pizzas are divine and their bacon sarnies after a walk round the lake. Super clean and perfect service. Took my mother in law and sister in law for lunch and they both loved it. Served by lovely Jan who was incredibly friendly. What a beautiful place. I’ve also taken my husband in there before, he is in a wheelchair and the staff were super helpful and great access. Thanks so much, highly recommend.

If you are coming here for coffee & a nice cake or hot food you will be fine. If however you are looking for a baguette, sandwiches or panini you need to be early. After about 12.30 they get very few & far between and just the what I would seem to be odd flavours get left. Its happened to us now the last 4 or 5 times we've been - I've even said that I wouldn't come back. It's a lovely venue overlooking the lake & there are half a dozen tables outside.

One of the most aesthetic places I've been to at Cardiff. Situated right next to Roath lake you get to have a lovely view of the lake and the swans. The staff was great and the coffee and cake I had came up to £6.6 so it was reasonably priced. I had a cappuccino which was decent however the carrot cake I had was kinda of bland and hard to eat. The icing was hard and basically fell apart when I tried to eat it. I'm definitely coming again but will get myself a sweet treat elsewhere! A must go for a relaxing afternoon Coffee/Tea after a good stroll in the park.

Another fantastic visit to the Terra nova cafe to be in a great atmosphere and around the fantastic staff that always give an amazing service. Sampled the breakfast menu this time and blown away by the quality of the food, the price was amazing. Would I return ? 100 percent yes, I only wish I lived closer to be able to enjoy the breakfast menu more and more

Had a really delicious pizza at the Nova yesterday, loved the views and atmosphere it was great. I was accompanied by my beautiful dog and was pleased that they are really dog friendly, he was happy at the fuss that was made of him ,and he thought the treats he was given were yummy. I would certainly recommend Nova for a meet up with friends or for a quick coffee overlooking the lake . Also thank you to all the friendly staff.

A beautiful Afternoon Tea at the Nova cafe served by Nick and his gang. Freshly made sandwiches with delicious cakes and scones in a picturesque setting overlooking Roath Park Lake. Would throughly recommend. We'll be back!

Nice lakeside cafe. Simple choices - panini had good salad I. It & £7 inc chips. . Sandwiches a bit white bread boring . Great looking cakes. Nice spot for gentle lunch .

Visited today. Simply wonderful in every way. Staff are helpful and friendly, food is reasonably priced and delicious. It’s a very welcoming place, today there were lots of parent with children, buggies, elderly, dogs. Dogs were barely noticeable because they were all well behaved and under control. I only noticed because I actively looked.

This is a lovely cafe on the edge of Roath Park. The cafe allows dogs which is to be expected as the cafe is in the heart of a park and popular family and dog walking area. The food is delicious and reasonably priced, the cakes are to die for- lots of choice but my favourites were the custard slices, strawberry tart and custard filled eclairs. Everyone is friendly, the staff and customers. It gets very busy so it’s common to have to wait and semi queue for a table but the food is definitely worth the wait. We had chicken curry and a ham and cheese panini and a tuna tuna panini and chips. All were great.

We had a great evening enjoying pizza and cold beer! the views are tremendous across the lake! the staff were very friendly. Definitely do this again.

I stopped at Terra Nova cafe for a quick coffee when going for a wintry walk round Roath Park lake. I entered at the door indicated and followed the sign to the till but no one was there. I could hear 2 people talking in a room off from the counter and tried to get their attention but couldn't. After 5 minutes of waiting I was leaving when I saw a food preparation room. I asked a woman in there and she sent a young man to serve me at the counter. I bought a decaf coffee, which costs 10% more than caffeinated coffee. The coffee was ok. The chairs in the cafe are made of metal so had become very cold over a freezing night. It was very uncomfortable sitting on such a cold seat. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy my visit to Terra Nova cafe, which is a shame because it's so nice to look at the lake.

I had the most delightful afternoon at the Terra Nova I took my family for cream tea. Delicious food, great atmosphere and tip top service I would highly recommend

What a surprise to meet a Gamecock in Cardiff! Nick, being able to tell we were from the states the minute we walked in the door, was extremely gracious and accommodating even after learning I was a Clemson graduate. We were there with our Cardiff family and so there were 9 of us and Nick made sure to find a way to seat us together. I got the pizza, which was amazing. Others in our group enjoyed the paninis. The beer selection was good as well as the hot drinks on a cold, windy day. Wonderful place to catch up with the extended family. Can’t wait to visit when it is warmer and we can sit outside. Definitely a place to try and enjoy the surroundings of a beautiful park.

The place was clean enough, the staff friendly and it they allow dogs, however, the Panini's are made with sourdough, were over cooked and they're pre-made or bought in so you can't take a filling out prior to it being over warmed which left mine rock hard in places. Tables aren't cleared straight away, and chairs aren't places neatly away. I would visit again, but not for food.

Met a couple of friends for lunch here yesterday. The staff were really friendly and accommodating. We ordered a couple of pizzas, the ham and mushroom and the vegetarian. Took about 15 minutes for our order to arrive. The pizzas are delicious all the toppings were fresh and it was very tasty. We shared a bottle of white wine. The atmosphere was lovely. Will be back in the new year to sample some more wine and pizza.

The only coffee shop I have been in that charges extra for decaf coffee And I have been in SeveraL The coffee is good and good selection of cakes Staff very friendly But I won’t visit again because of cost of my coffee

The following is a message sent to the cafe so thought easiest to copy to here. We had no response from the cafe. I know sounds petty but can’t stand bad customer service. “Good morning. We have been mulling over whether to contact you after a visit yesterday. We often take our two children for a walk around the lake but never visited your cafe. We did yesterday and disappointed and annoyed with the attitude of one of your employees. We ordered drinks and asked for our son’s hot chocolate to be warm and not hot. The drink was very hot. I took it back to the till and asked for some milk. The lady on the till went across to the coffee machine to get some milk and the lady making coffee must have asked what’s wrong with the drink. Assume the lady getting the milk told her, to which she shrugged her shoulders and made some comment that sounded like ‘whatever’. We have no problem with getting an order wrong and we should really have asked her to make it again but was accommodating by asking for some cold milk. We should have complained at that point but her rude and dismissive attitude caught us off guard. It very much spoilt an otherwise lovely trip to your cafe. You may think this message is unimportant but we wanted to let you know.”

Nick and the staff were so helpful in letting me film inside the cafe for a university assignment! It was a spontaneous request and they were all very accommodating. A staff member helped as an actor and added a perfect touch to the story. The atmosphere is lovely looking into the lane and the cauliflower rosti afterwards for lunch was delicious with a divine vegan carrot cake and perfect cappuccino! Thanks so much! I highly recommend

We came here to meet friends that we haven't seen for a long time (they suggested it as they are temporarily living in Cardiff). Wow. What a find. We brought our dog with us, and really appreciated how dog friendly this place is (even towels available). But, the cafe itself was amazing. The food was incredible. We were here for over 4 hours chewing the fat and in that time had several rounds of hot chocolate, pizzas, dirty fries, nachos ... all was spot on. The staff are lovely, really good interactions with the customers and the location is to die for. Loads of on-street free parking (coming from England, this is really hard to believe). Overall, 10/10. Amazing.

Its more like a kennel than a cafe. Random dogs keep touching and licking you. Extremely slow service makes it even worth How you get any hygiene clearance when dog sneeze every minute and dog hair everywhere. Probably better change the name for “kennel Nova” and you don’t see any mislead customer going there by accident.

What a fabulous venue for a party. Nicky and his teams attention to detail and support in preparing for my 60th birthday party was second to none and the service on the night was faultless. A room with a view made only better by the people who were there as guests and as service. Thankyou all

They had run out of the meat antipasto so I said to just give me what they had. They produced probably the loveliest antipasto I have ever eaten! Just what I needed on my trek around the lake to raise money for Cancer Research. Thank you 😊

The 3 of us all had brunch. 2 of us had the cauliflower rostis and they were delicious. Would highly recommend. The staff were really accommodating and friendly. Will definitely be returning.

Very excited at the new breakfast and lunch menu. I had the smashed avacado & tomato on sourbread toast, with chilli flakes, salt, pepper, and rocket which was excellent! Hubby had cut pear, greek yoghurt, granola with almonds, walnuts & honey. Both were very well presented and absolutely delicious. Can't wait to work my way through the menu!! Always a warm welcome from the staff. A great place to start your day.

I last reviewed this place in August 2022 and sadly not much has changed since then! It's still a mediocre cafe relying too much on the pretty Roath Park location to bring in the customers. I've visited maybe five times in the past year and always have the same problem when waiting to be served. The layout is still really badly designed, which means that the queue of people is usually blocking the entrance to the kitchen for staff and people have to keep awkwardly moving out of the way. You still can't see any of the tempting cakes on offer until you're already at the front of the queue, then you're under pressure to choose fast. (A lot of people don't feel this pressure in the least, which is one of the reasons why service here is sloooooow.) They're still a bit iffy about offering real cups and sometimes insist on giving you a takeaway cup - maybe their dishwasher is on the blink a lot or maybe they just love generating lots of waste for landfill? Who knows? A cup of tea or coffee is about £3 and comes in a surprisingly small mug - not the huge receptacles we're used to from the likes of Costa. A panini with chips is £6.80. A panini *without* chips? Also £6.80. (By this logic, they should offer a small portion chips for free...but don't get excited - they don't.)

I am very pleased with the updated menu at the Terra Nova cafe. There are lots of vegetarian and vegan options together with a good range of local beers and a variety of wines. The new sharing plates look great. On this occasion, I had the vegetarian dirty fries (chips loaded with veg chilli, onion, cheese, rocket and jalapeños and it really was the best I've had in years!

I recently had my 30th birthday at the Terra Nova - such a cool venue for a party, especially at night when it’s all lit up with fairy lights and candles! Christina was really helpful in the planning and the evening ran super smoothly with lovely staff. Great range of pizzas served with lovely salads and plenty of chips with a really good drinks menu too. My guests enjoyed their welcome drink which was a lovely touch. Highly recommend for a party venue!

Me & my wife try to come here every couple of week’s!! Amazing food & drinks made fresh & the staff are the best honestly the best crew of people ever!!! Icing on the cake dogs are welcomed the same way people are with open arms can’t say enough about the place that’s why we always come back for more!! Keep up what you’re all doing Terra Nova you’re the best!!!!!!!

A very special place where the food is always well cooked, generous and well presented The staff and management are always very welcoming and customer service top of their agenda. From dropping in for coffee and cake or for a meal we have always gone away very satisfied. All in all our top place!

Stopped for lunch on a dogwalk with friends. Dog friendly, busy, good choice of snack food and drink. Quite busy but service was prompt and friendly! Great!!

Myself and my partner took a walk around roath park lake. We often take a walk as it is easy to park and free, but never have we gone into the cafe as we never knew it was dog friendly until we spoke to a passer by. So we decided to pop in and have a nice warm drink with our dog on a sunny autumn Sunday. They had a large selection of drinks and hot chocolates with all different choices of syrups. We chose ginger bread latte and hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream which I have to say was delicious. Unfortunately we had just had our lunch, but we looked at the menu and they had a lot of choice and we did see a waitress taking a pizza to the table close by and wow it looked very nice I have to say. We will definitely be back for one of those.
