The Claude Hotel in Cardiff

Good night, Wales didn't win, but the fault is the pub. I enjoyed the live band the "Verge".

I'd not been in here since at least 1997/8 and I was surprised in the change around... but much livelier than I remember it being... and one of the last times I was in here some IDIOT decided to try and cut me up with a broken Pint glass... let's just say he ended up coming out worse off....and i will leave it there... Great place to visit again after so Long and hope its not as long until next time

Me and my boy have food in here every weekend where the staff always make a fuss of him and loves all the banter!! Great food great staff would recommend it to everyone plus during the week they have great offers such as £5 burger Wednesday where u get burger bacon cheese etc chips and onion rings etc!!! Can’t wait for Wednesday again lol !!

Catch up and a meal with friends (four of us). We managed to get one of the booths at the back. They're the best spot, comfy seats, multiple TV views, close to the pool tables. We all had food, good value for money. Friendly and fast service at the bar and from the team bringing the food and clearing the plates. Very hungover the next day 😂

Great place to watch the football.

Been coming to this place for many years now and always will return! Such a great place that caters for all. The food, interiors and friendliness is second to none. Happy bar staff and management alike. The facts it’s also dog friendly is a bonus. Outdoor area is class- outdoor screen caters for sporting events. The atmosphere is always top notch!

This place is Heaven. Great ambience in this fantastic lively pub. Tom was brilliant in hosting us when we wanted to watch a specific football game. Absolutely love coming here, best pub in Cardiff.

Great Saturday night band venue. I’m biased because my Sons band ‘The Striplights’ treat The Claude as their home ground as they perform here regularly. As they are this Saturday 25th March. Obviously I’ll be there. You should come too, no gifts or drinks needed for me. Just come along and see one of South Wales top bands.

A delightfully bonkers establishment where the decor resembles your eccentric uncle’s attic—if he hoarded rugby trophies and taxidermy. The ale menu is marvellous too. Quirky, welcoming, and utterly charming, The Claude is worth every trip hazard. Five stars.

Our local pub which has always been a go to for a good atmosphere without being too rough or too gastro pub. Friendly staff on the door who actually look after customers rather than treat students like trash.

A nice pub, we were dissapointed that the vegetarian roast option has been removed from the menu however the prices were very good and the staff very friendly. The pub used to do a side dish of roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings and it would be nice to have that back as some form of veggie option

Great to see live music but it's in a small area near the entrance, with a tiny dancefloor, so doesn't really work. You can't hear each other speak! It was even loud in the snug bar. Mosy beers are quite pricey here too for an out of town pub. Pool tables are a quid a game but are always busy, broken cues with no tips too. Good beer garden, with big screens.

The best pub for students in Cathays, very cheap pints, friendly staff, and always a great atmosphere.

Proper pub. No messing about. Staff love the banter. Would definitely recommend to a fellow lad.

Big pub in an area of mostly ethnic food outlets. They do food and have an entertainment space.

A vibrant atmosphere walking in, the halloumi salad was a winner, food service was slow, bar service was good and waiting staff were great

Came for Sunday dinner - told at least an hour wait for food. Not even offered a free soft drink to wait, so we left and went to the Claude pub instead. The following week, stupidly returned with four friends (six of us in total) at 2:30pm - they were no longer serving Sunday dinner - that they advertised was served all day. We left and went elsewhere. Again, a wasted journey. There won’t be a third time and I would urge others not to bother wasting your time.

Good food as per usual and, as long as you don't go in the evenings, not full of students

We enjoyed a lovely meal to celebrate a birthday. Charlie and Sam, the young men who were serving us were fantastic. We all enjoyed the food and I would definitely return again. Thank you

This is one of the finest sports bars in the area, a really large beer garden with outside screens where you can watch different matches. Good selection of beers and speedy food menu.

Very nice pub, I recommend it. The food is very tasty, its presentation needs to be worked on.

I was having a lovely drink in the sun and decided to get some food. When my food arrived I was told to get cutlery from inside. When I went in there was none available. I asked the lady if I could please have some and was told it would be brought to my table. 15 minutes later when this did not arrive I decided the only option was to eat my food as there was no staff to be seen. A better experience would be that cutlery is brought with food so I dont have to use my hands.

Not impressed, ordered the same round three time and charged three different prices! I hadn’t noticed until I had gotten home. Also me and my friends stayed until closing, the bouncer came around after they called last orders and said we had 20 minutes to drink up which wasn’t a problem. Until he came around five minutes later and gave us plastic cups and asked us to transfer our drinks into them and leave

Nice bar but the food was dreadful. Tiny slice of pie advertised as gigantic 😂

Excellent place to store bikes with the bouncers situated on the front of the pub most of the time! If only this became a general knowledge to the public over the warmer months, with perhaps other incentives outside of sport for presumably bringing in more active trustee cyclists on the front gate! Cheers!

Pub grub, you get what you pay for. Unfortunately, I've have had a lot better in other of the same chain and sane menu. Staff and service are great though and great pub 👍

Easily one of the best pubs in Cardiff. Brilliant prices, especially if you’re a student. The deals they have for food are unbeatable - can’t say no to 2 mains for £11.99. Staff are lovely and they have 3 pool tables. Also, it’s a historic pub that’s been around a long time. Interior is lovely and you can always get a space. There’s also an area if you want a more quiet drink. Beer garden is also one of the best I’ve seen in Cardiff

Been going to this pub for years and when querying a drink a member of staff was really rude so I said I have every right to question my drink which I was told no I didn’t so I left it but when my son went to the bar and ordered the drinks every thing was fine until the bar staff member seen me and called the original bar staff member and then they both mocked me both laughing, really disappointing, like I said been going to this pub for years, maybe because two weeks ago when wales played England this pub was at it’s full capacity the pub feels they don’t need to listen to the customer (really disappointing) pubs are slowly getting back normality so feel disappointed that staff can act in this manner

We were visiting family in Cardiff and wanted to watch the match and have a few drinks. We decided to go to The Claude and so glad with our decision. Great atmosphere and we were made to feel so welcome. By the end of the day we felt like one of the locals. Bar staff were so friendly and chatty even though they were rushed off their feet. Thoroughly recommend The Claude and we will try the food next time. Thanks everyone for a great afternoon!!

The Claude rocks for rugby fans! Epic matches, buzzing atmosphere, awesome food and drinks. Perfect hangout for game days with friends. Great staff and good gin choices.

Tried to get in their tonight. It’s our local family pub which is usually very good and lively. Went for an Indian down the road with some friends. Arranged to meet back at the Claude (22:25). Was greeted by very rude bouncers saying that they had stopped entry, even though a select ‘favourite’ few were allowed entry. I tried to explain that my family were already inside and had been for some time but he was just plain rude. The short bald one with attitude. You need more training!! Normally this is a great pub but unfortunately your door staff have let you down on this occasion. A apology from management would be greatly received!!

Most disgusting filthy toilets I have seen for years. As you walked in the stench hit you, it was unbelievably bad. There were two toilets with out of order signs, one with the seat hanging off, one with no lock and one with the floor flooded. This was not at the end of a busy night, it was early Saturday afternoon.

If the old lady behind the bar spent more effort in her customer service than she did moaning about the pub and the company being nothing but crooks it would have been excellent service which is a shame as it’s usually really nice in here but is not what you want to be listening too or greeted by when spending your money. Sad!!

Came for a festive lunch in a large group last Sunday, Wow, food was Amazing, staff as always warm and welcoming, nothing is ever to much trouble, the new assistant manager was superb, what an amazing team they have, would highly recommend the Claude to everyone

After such a poor experience last time the manager gave us a voucher and the changes he made were obvious . Thanks will be back regularly again

Beer ok. Some of the worst customer service ever. Is a face like a smacked a rs company policy ? Can I get some change for the pool table ….. I can’t open the till without the manager……pause…. So you’d like me to come back later …..yeah. Just unbelievable. Sorry for ruining your day lounging around doing nothing. Not as if the tables are dirty and there are lots of dirty glasses around. I mean I’m only the customer paying £5. Bring on AI robots. At least they can be programmed to be nice

Awful door staff. Rude and making up new rules every night. Last week, door staff grabbed me by my shoulder and told me to remove my hat... while I walked from the pub garden to the exit. If you didn't like my hat, tell me when I arrived - don't try to intimidate me as I'm walking out the door! Today I was told my trousers weren't allowed, despite the fact that they were allowed last week?? Stop touching customers! You can get my attention without touching! Creeps.

Ordered food. Bar was far from busy. Took over an hour before being delivered without apology. Food was as expected but service was poor.

Great atmosphere cheap pints great food for a reasonable price

.we were made to que outside at 8.15 pm freezing !! when the pub wasn't even full. When asked why the bouncers said. 1 out and 1 in .I have never ever know anything like this. People were leaving from the que and we did the same. We were told it's under new management .well I'm afraid to say you have lost allot of customers because we will never go back there.

Sunday Roast - Hand-Carved Beef Hand-Carved beef served with roasties, mash, seasonal vegetables, sage & onion stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and gravy This is how they describe there Sunday lunch , what a joke . The beef Sunday lunch was the worst I have ever eaten . They say hand carved I could not cut the beef and only tried one slice and no more as I thought I would break my teeth . The Yorkshire pudding again I could not cut it and the veg was cold . I am sitting worried while I write this about potentially being ill after trying to eat the one slice I tried .

Used to be one of our favourite places to go for pub food but not anymore. They seem to be letting some unsavoury people in now which is not on considering it's a Family Pub. A month ago they had no Steak so my partner had Fish & Chips. Today again no Steak so he had Fish & Chips again but no lemon and Tartare Sauce is now an Extra!! My Corned Beef Pie had hard chunks of potato and the Gravy was cold. By the time they had reheated the gravy i had eaten most of my food. People sat behind us had to change their meals three times due to no Sausages ( Really !! ) and other food they didn't have. They had ordered before us and waited ages for their meals. WE won't be going there anymore.

The Claude is a good pub, whether you are on your own or in company. The age range is well balanced, however at weekends it is a younger crowd. During the day, it's a great pub for families and dog owners. I've given no stars for 'food' because I've never eaten there. (I live less than a 5 minute walk from the pub.)

Disappointing visit. Waited too long at the bar to be served. Bar was dirty and too many flies. Ordered food. No onion rings . Had to seek at cutlery etc.. Didn't have full menu. My friend ordered a burger after other options unavailable. Was then told no burger after I had nearly finished. He had to go to the chippy on the way home. Staff not helpful. Won't be going back.

Great for watching sport. (Best venue in Cardiff for number of screens and pool tables) Not so great for beer. They occasionally have a cask on, but usually only one, and it's a massive place. Basic lagers and ciders. Decent crowd though. Total mix of students, locals, young, old... down-to-earth but not rough, and the snug is a lovely place to have a meal. (Unfortunately the food menu is as imaginative as the drinks) When it's sunny, the back garden is an absolute sun trap... I would advise any gentleman to make sure they go to the loo before they come out though, or bring a pair of crocs if you catch my drift.

Had a great evening, the pub&staff were great , nice vibe great singer,but we came for a family meal dropping off youngest to uni , chef can’t cook a simple steak,either not fresh or re heated maybe or cooked from frozen who knows or lack of knowledge or too rushed to get out, rest of food ok for price, and I get the price band which we chose, the steaks looked fine so maybe increase the price but they need to be prepared,cooked right and not rushed. X

Staff very lazy. Not interested and 2 women sat eating crisps. Whilst food plates and beer glasses stayed on empty tables for the hour I was there?. Also toilets. Dirty and wet floors.

Apologies for the earlier review. I had a throughly good evening and the atmos was great as were rhe staff to be fair. My earlier scores did not reflect this so have amended x will be back
