Pub grub, you get what you pay for. Unfortunately, I've have had a lot better in other of the same chain and sane menu. Staff and service are great though and great pub 👍

Easily one of the best pubs in Cardiff. Brilliant prices, especially if you’re a student. The deals they have for food are unbeatable - can’t say no to 2 mains for £11.99. Staff are lovely and they have 3 pool tables. Also, it’s a historic pub that’s been around a long time. Interior is lovely and you can always get a space. There’s also an area if you want a more quiet drink. Beer garden is also one of the best I’ve seen in Cardiff

Been going to this pub for years and when querying a drink a member of staff was really rude so I said I have every right to question my drink which I was told no I didn’t so I left it but when my son went to the bar and ordered the drinks every thing was fine until the bar staff member seen me and called the original bar staff member and then they both mocked me both laughing, really disappointing, like I said been going to this pub for years, maybe because two weeks ago when wales played England this pub was at it’s full capacity the pub feels they don’t need to listen to the customer (really disappointing) pubs are slowly getting back normality so feel disappointed that staff can act in this manner

We were visiting family in Cardiff and wanted to watch the match and have a few drinks. We decided to go to The Claude and so glad with our decision. Great atmosphere and we were made to feel so welcome. By the end of the day we felt like one of the locals. Bar staff were so friendly and chatty even though they were rushed off their feet. Thoroughly recommend The Claude and we will try the food next time. Thanks everyone for a great afternoon!!

The Claude rocks for rugby fans! Epic matches, buzzing atmosphere, awesome food and drinks. Perfect hangout for game days with friends. Great staff and good gin choices.

Tried to get in their tonight. It’s our local family pub which is usually very good and lively. Went for an Indian down the road with some friends. Arranged to meet back at the Claude (22:25). Was greeted by very rude bouncers saying that they had stopped entry, even though a select ‘favourite’ few were allowed entry. I tried to explain that my family were already inside and had been for some time but he was just plain rude. The short bald one with attitude. You need more training!! Normally this is a great pub but unfortunately your door staff have let you down on this occasion. A apology from management would be greatly received!!

Most disgusting filthy toilets I have seen for years. As you walked in the stench hit you, it was unbelievably bad. There were two toilets with out of order signs, one with the seat hanging off, one with no lock and one with the floor flooded. This was not at the end of a busy night, it was early Saturday afternoon.

If the old lady behind the bar spent more effort in her customer service than she did moaning about the pub and the company being nothing but crooks it would have been excellent service which is a shame as it’s usually really nice in here but is not what you want to be listening too or greeted by when spending your money. Sad!!

Came for a festive lunch in a large group last Sunday, Wow, food was Amazing, staff as always warm and welcoming, nothing is ever to much trouble, the new assistant manager was superb, what an amazing team they have, would highly recommend the Claude to everyone

Great place with amazing food. Bouncers are horrible and ruin everything. They need to be sacked!! Would be 5 stars if they had decent bouncers that weren’t stuck up!

After such a poor experience last time the manager gave us a voucher and the changes he made were obvious . Thanks will be back regularly again

Awful door staff. Rude and making up new rules every night. Last week, door staff grabbed me by my shoulder and told me to remove my hat... while I walked from the pub garden to the exit. If you didn't like my hat, tell me when I arrived - don't try to intimidate me as I'm walking out the door! Today I was told my trousers weren't allowed, despite the fact that they were allowed last week?? Stop touching customers! You can get my attention without touching! Creeps.

Beer ok. Some of the worst customer service ever. Is a face like a smacked a rs company policy ? Can I get some change for the pool table ….. I can’t open the till without the manager……pause…. So you’d like me to come back later …..yeah. Just unbelievable. Sorry for ruining your day lounging around doing nothing. Not as if the tables are dirty and there are lots of dirty glasses around. I mean I’m only the customer paying £5. Bring on AI robots. At least they can be programmed to be nice

Ordered food. Bar was far from busy. Took over an hour before being delivered without apology. Food was as expected but service was poor.

Great atmosphere cheap pints great food for a reasonable price

.we were made to que outside at 8.15 pm freezing !! when the pub wasn't even full. When asked why the bouncers said. 1 out and 1 in .I have never ever know anything like this. People were leaving from the que and we did the same. We were told it's under new management .well I'm afraid to say you have lost allot of customers because we will never go back there.

Sunday Roast - Hand-Carved Beef Hand-Carved beef served with roasties, mash, seasonal vegetables, sage & onion stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and gravy This is how they describe there Sunday lunch , what a joke . The beef Sunday lunch was the worst I have ever eaten . They say hand carved I could not cut the beef and only tried one slice and no more as I thought I would break my teeth . The Yorkshire pudding again I could not cut it and the veg was cold . I am sitting worried while I write this about potentially being ill after trying to eat the one slice I tried .

Used to be one of our favourite places to go for pub food but not anymore. They seem to be letting some unsavoury people in now which is not on considering it's a Family Pub. A month ago they had no Steak so my partner had Fish & Chips. Today again no Steak so he had Fish & Chips again but no lemon and Tartare Sauce is now an Extra!! My Corned Beef Pie had hard chunks of potato and the Gravy was cold. By the time they had reheated the gravy i had eaten most of my food. People sat behind us had to change their meals three times due to no Sausages ( Really !! ) and other food they didn't have. They had ordered before us and waited ages for their meals. WE won't be going there anymore.

The Claude is a good pub, whether you are on your own or in company. The age range is well balanced, however at weekends it is a younger crowd. During the day, it's a great pub for families and dog owners. I've given no stars for 'food' because I've never eaten there. (I live less than a 5 minute walk from the pub.)

Disappointing visit. Waited too long at the bar to be served. Bar was dirty and too many flies. Ordered food. No onion rings . Had to seek at cutlery etc.. Didn't have full menu. My friend ordered a burger after other options unavailable. Was then told no burger after I had nearly finished. He had to go to the chippy on the way home. Staff not helpful. Won't be going back.

Great for watching sport. (Best venue in Cardiff for number of screens and pool tables) Not so great for beer. They occasionally have a cask on, but usually only one, and it's a massive place. Basic lagers and ciders. Decent crowd though. Total mix of students, locals, young, old... down-to-earth but not rough, and the snug is a lovely place to have a meal. (Unfortunately the food menu is as imaginative as the drinks) When it's sunny, the back garden is an absolute sun trap... I would advise any gentleman to make sure they go to the loo before they come out though, or bring a pair of crocs if you catch my drift.

Had a great evening, the pub&staff were great , nice vibe great singer,but we came for a family meal dropping off youngest to uni , chef can’t cook a simple steak,either not fresh or re heated maybe or cooked from frozen who knows or lack of knowledge or too rushed to get out, rest of food ok for price, and I get the price band which we chose, the steaks looked fine so maybe increase the price but they need to be prepared,cooked right and not rushed. X

Staff very lazy. Not interested and 2 women sat eating crisps. Whilst food plates and beer glasses stayed on empty tables for the hour I was there?. Also toilets. Dirty and wet floors.

Apologies for the earlier review. I had a throughly good evening and the atmos was great as were rhe staff to be fair. My earlier scores did not reflect this so have amended x will be back

The Lasagne was lovely. A little small and only came with garlic bread and three pieces of salad. But it was delicious.

After looking forward to a Sunday roast myself and family had left dissapointed. Stuffing was well dried out, either not enough water was used or it was from last Sunday, vegtables and roast potatoes were frozen produce and were cooked to the death and dried out same as the stuffing, even for the excellent pricing you expect a little better from what is supposed to be food cooked by a trained chef and to also mention that the plates were hot but food was cold! If i would have taken note of the '2' hygiene rating on the way in that is from July 2023, i would have probably guessed what the standards were going to be like. Never take time out to complain but had to with this as was so dissapointed.

Came here with my boyfriend for a date night, had a lovely time. Beth and Lewis were amazing, so friendly and helpful, best bar staff in Cardiff! Will definitely be back!

Arrived at 12:15 26th June 2023, ordered our 11 seniors meals, there were 4 others in the bar. Waited until 1:10 pm for our meals, arrived cold, last week plates were too hot to touch. We cleared our tables and waited for our puddings, we were served at 2:20 pm with puddings. By this time some of our group had to leave due to assisted travel being booked as it is every week. We asked another table of 4 who were visiting and they commented on Luke warm food a long wait and rude staff, also that they would not be eating there again ! Two of our group arrived late and ordered separately and waite 1 hour 45 mins to be served food. Such a shame it used to be a lovely place to eat and meet

Food was cold, staff rude and very abrupt! There were only 15 people in the bar, so not a busy Monday. Ordered two courses from the seniors menu, 11 of us in total. Food arrived cold. We asked another table who were eating about their food, also cold and commented that they would not be going there again. Waited an hour for puddings and two of our group waited more! Looking elsewhere to go on a Monday every week

Visited on a match day, everyone in the pub wanted to watch the same match and a number of people asked if the same match could be played throughout the pub but the bar staff said no. Had a lot of people leave because of this and the ones left were crampt in. Know your audience that nice you annoyed people and lost a fair amount of business. Food was ok

We had tomato soup and onion bhaji for starters followed by steak and kidney pudding and giant Yorkshire pudding with two Cumberland curl sausages. Both served with mash, peas and gravy. One hiccup but immediately sorted by the staff member serving meals. My meal was supposed to come with mash not chips. It was sorted immediately. We did notice the peas were not the quality of their usual ones, being larger and harder. Hope this is because of hitches in the food chain, rather than a deliberate change. We couldn’t manage a dessert, not even one to share. I tried the Blue Lagoon cocktail. This was served in an enormous brandy type glass with loads of ice, lime and blueberries. It was made to order by the bar staff from scratch, ie not using a pre-made mixture. It was brilliant. Made a good photo being bright blue. Thank you for a lovely lunch. The only thing that would have made it better would have been some sound deadening on the ceiling of the space off the right of the main bar room (opposite the bar). Just 3 couples lunching and chatting in the space made for a deafening row. Never noticed this problem there before, but did this time.

Food was microwaved, not too good

My regular pub. Me and my friends always meet here for wine 🍷. Our favourite is the Gitto we love sitting in the beer garden is so pretty and good atmosphere. We usually go in the week as weekends it tends to be very busy and difficult to get seating if you want to eat but on a plus they have live brands and is a great place to start your night out. They have big screens inside and out so good for match day. They have several pool tables. The food is typical pub food but I do love the katsu chicken and it’s good value for money. They also do 20% student discount on food and drinks so can’t go wrong

Rubbish food and service, cand believe you CANT eat out in the garden no more, that's spoilt the summer, I won't be sitting n the dark inside for food if it's warm outside. Spoilt it.

I've not been here in a long while and it tells! It's massively changed all for the best, and the outdoors area is very well set up, with lots of heaters to keep you warm on a chilly, wet day/night.

Efficient. Cheap. Tasty. Best pub we went to in Cardiff. Wish we had gone earlier. Both massive meals pictured were under 15 quid with a blur light card.

Ladies toilets are absolutely disgusting, water on the floors, toilets were clogged because the flushes weren't working, I did tell a member of staff but nothing was done, these toilets need immediate attention

The door staff on a quiet sunday is unnecessary. I was quietly reading my book in the lounge area when tre bkuncer asked me to take my hat off, i refused stating the sign on the door stated fridays and saturdays after six, it was sunday before 4. I was told it was new greene king policy. There is no indication online of any dress code policy for greene king pubs anywhere, there is no indication of this in sign or anything in the pub. I beleive i was targeted or the bouncer had nothing better to do. Been coming to the pub for years, won't bother anymore for theyre telling me how to dress on a quiet sunday, ill just take my business to a pub without bouncers or ridiculous supposed dress codes. Would be a great pub if not for the door staff

Great Saturday night band venue. I’m biased because my Sons band ‘The Striplights’ treat The Claude as their home ground as they perform here regularly. As they are this Saturday 25th March. Obviously I’ll be there. You should come too, no gifts or drinks needed for me. Just come along and see one of South Wales top bands.

Excellent atmosphere for the Champions league football

The Claude is a very popular pub with an amazing outdoor area. There is an under cover section and an open section both with screens for sport. The screen in the open section is absolutely huge. The food is really good too. This is our go to pub and never disappoints

Good place to watch sport and nice atmosphere. They were reluctant/unable to split the rugby and football over multiple screens which was a shame Bigger shame was insistence that my friend had to remove his cap. I understand they are entitled to enforce whatever policy they like but we were in no way causing trouble we were sitting quietly and eating. And the doorman who came on shift whilst we were there had a hat on, which seems counterintuitive. More pressingly the all day breakfast I had was cold, overcooked and very disappointing.

Arghh.. The floor was a bit sticky and service took a while but hey.......what do you expect when Wales are playing England in the Six Nations? Great atmosphere. Great pub 👍👌

My friend was told she has to leave because shes wearing a beanie even though she explained she has alopecia, shes been here for two hours. Bouncers really rude and disregarding she doesn't feel comfortable coming back

Nothing special. Very average, but if you can't have what you like, you like what you have. Edit: I'll reply here to the owner comment. What I like: garden area and the back room/dining lounge. Variety of beverages. What I don't like: dirty toilets, rough crowd, live band last week was atrocious, some drinks are overpriced.

Out of Guinness on a regular basis even though its advertised everywhere! and sometimes only lager & cider available. Similar story with the food. There's also a barmaid who likes to wedge the doors open on freezing cold nights. Have vacated to other pubs as a result

We met up with family for Birthday celebrations. We haven't been to the Claude for a while due to a change in location but the meals and staff were both outstanding. Lunchtime meals, meal deals and the seniors deals were incredibly good value for money. It was the best pub lunch I've had in a long while. All the partie were very happy. Staff were really attentive and pleasant. A very enjoyable experience. Thank you to all.

It was a great experience at Claude.

Booked online in mid October for Xmas day. Paid deposit and had email confirmation. Booking was accepted for 5pm Noticed on December 23rd that xmas day hours were 12 til 3pm Rang Claude to check this and was told no online bookings were meant to be accepted and there was no way my booking was valid. Told me to contact Greene King customer services as it wasn't the pubs issue. Customer services are now looking into refunding my deposit. Not caring at all about the fact that somewhere there has been a huge error and if I hadn't seen the opening hours I would have turned up to a closed pub. Absolutely disgraceful service would give zero stars if possible

A nice Greene King pub. The staff were excellent and helpful, being highly efficient while remaining polite and friendly, especially on a Football World Cup night match. The selection of Alcohol is about standard for a Greene King pub, but they have some good chefs in the kitchen handling food. Being situated where it is, it gets a good amount of both locals and visitors creating a great atmosphere where both groups can feel comfortable.

We had booked a table for 15 people in October, when we arrived we were told there were no kitchen staff in, so we're unable to have a meal. Not a great way to run a pub, as if it wasn't for our party the place was dead. The Claude lost out on a lot of money for a Wednesday from us

Food was good, ordered drinks with it on their app. After my food arrived I went to the bar to say I'd paid for drinks but not received them. I was told "it's easier if you just come here because we don't look at tickets if it's busy" in a rather dismissive tone. Took a little while for them to get me my drinks. Not sure why you use app if staff are openly ignoring the orders customers are paying for. Food good, service meh, staff a little rude

Very disappointed as I'm from Bristol and my friend is from Scotland and always come to the Claude for a meal when I'm in wales becuase the pub is dog friendly. But on this occasion the doormen refused us entry at 630pm on a sat evening because we were wearing tracksuit trousers and trainers, I appreciate this fact but it's a sports bar and not a nightclub, and it was suitable clothing for a day out with the puppy and we were only wanting to sit in the lounge to eat and I don't even drink alcohol. Sadly it was a bad end to a real nice day out.
