This cottage has been in the same family since the beginning. I started coming here with my parents when I was about 4 or 5 years old and am now in my 40s. I am yet to find anywhere else like this and this is what makes it so special and different. Coming to eat here is really like going round to your relations house for dinner and they happen to live in an old quaint cottage. It's like stepping back in time, before mobiles, and when things were more simple. If you only like modern fashionable food, with music, bright lights and a bar then this place is not for you. The food is only traditional, so chicken, beef, duck, lamb etc and comes with the trimmings that would go with a Sunday dinner, they don't sell alcohol but you can bring your own if you want. I personally love this place, and would hate to think it wouldn't be around one day. You just have to try it and enjoy taking a step back in time.

This place has not changed for 30 years and that's why we love it. If you like honest home made food this place is perfect. Don't expect alcohol but you can take your own if you wish. We will be returning soon. X

Well, maybe not - 70’s menu, no atmosphere, no conversation/engagement from waitress. No offer of water/soft drink in an unlicensed establishment. Cold toast and butter - (dinner) no bread roll? Egg mayonnaise - over cooked eggs. ‘Cottage-style mushrooms’ wtf ? Veg soup - mmm with tinned peas? ‘Roast meat choices’ braised lamb with powdered gravy, ‘Aunt Bessie’s roast potatoes, ‘smash’, packet cheese sauce, broccoli and carrots. Sweet - I had ‘sherry trifle’ - no sherry, no custard. On the other hand, it had ‘dream topping’ and sprinkles - interesting. Cheese and biscuits. Coffee? Er instant coffee - probably Nescafé Having said that.... we took our own wine. Did we leave ‘replete’ - yes we did. I don’t get the other reviews on here and I don’t ‘mean to be mean’ etc but it was fun. Definitely not ‘haute cuisine’ and Gordon Ramsey would have a an ‘f’ meltdown. Go on - I dare you to try it!

We enjoyed a lovely 6 course meal on New Year's Day, the service was quick and most polite at a very good price of £20 per person. This was the second New Year we have been to The Cottage and both occasions have been very enjoyable. We also go there at other times during the year and never had a bad meal.

starter, soup, roast dinner (roast spuds to die for), pudding, cheese and biscuits and coffee all for £18.50 each. Bring your own booze. The service was excellent, the food was brilliant, did I mention the roast spuds. This place is old fashioned. whoever owns it, please, please keep doing what you are doing.

My wife and two friends dined here on Saturday 23rd, we had a wonderful evening and the food was outstanding the main course is a choice of four traditional roast dinners not a massive choice but the quality was perfect, we had a 6 course meal for the unbelievable price of £18-50p per head and you take your own drinks (glasses provided) the service was second to none. We will be definitely going back and I recommend this for anyone looking for good food and pleasant surroundings.

Dined here with family, on a very quiet evening. The Cottage is delightful in every respect - the service, the settings, and quality of food just first class. And at £18.50 for six courses, all superbly presented - is unbelievable value for money. There's choice from 4 starters, then a soup course, followed by "mains" - which offers a choice of four meats (ducking, beef, chicken, and lamb) and salmon, all served with two veg plus roast and cream potatoes, and after that, a choice of four desserts, finishing with a cheeseboard, and tea/coffee with mints. All portions more than ample. The Cottage is not licenced, but there's no problem in bringing your own wine - glasses are provided - and be aware that they do not take credit cards, so ensure you have cash/cheque book with you for payment., I believe they serve a Sunday lunch (with less courses, at a cheaper price) so I intend to experience this before very long. The Cottage is a real gem and a wonderful dining experience.

Been before. Usually ok, albeit staff always rush to clear tables even if not all the party has finished eating!!! Today was appallingly bad in all aspects. Unfriendly waitress, bordering on rude. Banging meals, drinks down on the table, no smile, no conversation. Potatoes roasted in old fat, carrots and peas were tinned. Wont return. This place really needs to up its game and employ people who really do wish to serve the public!! Sunday afternoon 11th Feb 2018.

So, where to start with the cottage.. my family have been going here since the 50s. I don’t think the menu has actually changed and this is what makes it perfect. The duck is the best thing on the menu and the pastry desert pies are incredible. Don’t come here if you want fancy, modern, or trendy.. come here for honest, comforting, tasty, family meals.

Six courses for £20 a head who could beat that. Lovely old farmhouse, fast and efficient service. Traditional fare I enjoyed every course especially the Pheasant main meal. Being a BYO really keeps the cost down we where a party of six and took our own wine which meant we only paid in total £120 for the food. Just be aware they don't take cards cash only. Great place to take someone for a old fashioned dining experience . Loved it.

Old-style traditional restaurant serving old-school traditional food. Limited menu choice harks back to the 70's eg Sunday lunch consists of vegetable soup, main course being a choice of 3 meats with veg accompaniments, dessert a choice of fruit tart, peach melba, sherry trifle or ice cream, and coffee and mint to finish - all for £13!! But all is very tasty, piping hot (except the toast which comes with the soup which is served cold intentionally) and plentiful. If anyone leaves hungry then I think you must be a gluttonous greedy-guts! They don't have an alcohol licence but you can take your own and there is no corkage charged. Decor is quaint and traditional in keeping with an old cottage. Service swift and pleasant. Don't expect frills, any modernity or culinary trends on the menu as you won't get any. Basic homely food at a great price... 3 courses, plus coffee and mint... £13 a head... where else can you get this?!

We as a family have been going to The Cottage for 20 years + and I can honestly say It is the the definition of a family restaurant. They do not try and keep up with fads and fancies, they are not michelin star or gastro, instead they stick to what they know best. Well cooked traditional food. The atmosphere is so homely with a roaring fire the children can relax which means the parents can relax. They are not licenced so we take our own favorite tipple (they provide the glasses) topping my glass up when required instead of trekking to the bar or waiting for a waiter. It is reasonably priced and after having a lovely six course meal we go home feeling happy. I hope they never change and we can spend another 20 years going here. Thank you

Interestingly, there are only two reviews for the Cottage - and both poles apart in opinion! I dined here with a small family party (six in number) and found the entire experience quite delightful. We had booked in advance, (the restaurant wasn't full, but we weren't to know that at the time) and enjoyed an excellent meal of six courses (starter, soup, main, sweet, cheese and biscuits, and coffee/tea) for an absolute bargain price of £17.95 per person. The restaurant isn't licensed, but you can bring your own wine (glasses provided). We were celebrating a birthday, and had brought a cake, which the staff very kindly presented at the appropriate time, and supplied plates and knives/forks. Can fully recommend. Best to book rather than call "on spec", as I'm not sure what the opening hours are.

My husband and I had friends staying with us from Australia. What better way to show them the delights of Lancashire than by taking the Tasty Lancashire Cheese walk from Inglewhite. As recommended by Forest of Bowland .com we headed for The Cottage and arrived at 1.20 to find only 2 people dining in the restaurant/ tea room. On entry a lady came into the restaurant and told us they were only serving lunch . We would have been happy to pay for sandwiches , cakes etc but it was quite obvious from her cold demeanour that we weren't welcome and wouldn't be served under any circumstances. I did ask if we could have a drink ( it was a very hot day in July) but she refused. I would like to say that we are all mature professional people in our sixties , not a bunch of undesirables. I personally felt embarrassed with regard to the lack of hospitality we received - not the impression of Lancashire we wanted our Australian friends to take away with them. We will not be returning there ever . If I could have scored zero, I would have.We also called at Mrs. Kirkham's cheese farm and received the warmest of welcomes, which included cheese tasting and a detailed explanation of how the cheese is made.

You are immediately transported back in time at this charming, rural cottage restaurant in the beautiful Lancashire countryside. Christmas decorations, roaring fires and home-made food served by very pleasant staff, make this a very relaxed place to be. Bring your own wine or whatever you like to drink as there is no bar. Just gentle conversation, laughter and light-heartedness. Myself and two friends had the most wonderful Christmas lunch yesterday. A joyful place to be.

We visited the Leyland Lion with family and friends we've been a few times before and it's been great sadly on this visit it wasn't.The pub was very busy which is fine as it was a Friday afternoon. We needed a table that seated five but struggled to get one. After a few minutes we manged to find one however the table was still full of empty plates and food.I went to the bar and politely asked a female staff member could someone please come and clear and clean our table. At the time she was tapping away on a tablet I assume sorting out app orders. The look she gave me was awful she didn't even reply just nodded her head in what looked like annoyance that I'd interrupted her or even asked. She did come to clean the table but her face was now like thunder.Me and my wife thanked her and again got no response then all the while we were in the pub spending a lot of money she just scowled in our direction. This won't stop us visiting the pub in the future but staff need to learn to be polite. One more point is I understand it was busy but having worked a lot in pubs myself in the past there's nothing worse than saying to customers Who's next this just causes friction staff should be actually clocking who's next??..

Booked but didn’t need to as there was plenty of spare tables : you could order via an app but we ordered at the bar.Fair choice of drinks but having only one size for sparkling drinks! Bring honest the starters of garlic and cheese bread wax a total let down even for the price! Mains however of Jerk Chicken and another chicken dish was near perfect and value for the price. Some lovely staff were attentive and friendly. Overall decent visit

A busy lunchtime, but despite other reviews the service was very attentive and timely. Lots of choice and variety on the menu...we opted for mackerel and beetroot salad and the salmon and crayfish salad. Both absolutely delicious, very fresh and generous portions. Blackcurrant and lemon posset dessert was to die for! Very good and already looking forward to our next visit!

Went here as part of a large coach party, they were very organised and provided waiter service. There was a choice of three starters/mains & puddings all of which looked lovely and my choices and those of my party were lovely. Good service all over.
