pig and whistle in Preston

We have been to the Pig&Whistle a few times over the years and we have always had first class food and service to match and this visit was no different.The restaurant was very busy but the food was first class yet again and plenty of staff to help everyone,a special mention to the young lad serving a nice portion of meats that will bring us back in the furture.

Was all OK. We had the carvery amd there was nothing qorng with any of it. Not high brow food but good honest Sunday dinner.

Went for my daughters birthday with family. Everybody enjoyed the Food(was over twenty of us) and staff couldn’t do enough to make it special for her. She loved when they brought her cake out.

Came with a few friends, the food was really nice and atmosphere was really relaxing. The staff were very welcoming, especially Jessica, who recommended us one of the dishes as we were unsure what to get. Will definitely come back again and will recommend to others

The pizzas are fab and the chef knows how to load it, so tasty. Alysa was so pleasant and nothing was too much trouble for her to make our experience tops!!

The chef in this place is absolutely horrible... Shouts at you and an extremely unpleasant man. This person should be sacked and definitely not around a paying customer. He may cook the food but we buy the food and therefore we pay he's wages. What an awful person.

Thought long and hard about posting this review but I feel it’s necessary to make other people with coeliac disease aware. I attended the Pig and Whistle with my family on the 10th April. I decided it was easier to order on the app. I went up for my carvery and asked the carver (tall lad with a beard) if there was gluten free Yorkshire puddings. He replied no. I asked about gluten free gravy and was told I should have ordered at the bar to make them aware I needed gluten free things. He disappeared and returned a few moments later with a small jug of gravy. I thanked him and he did not respond. He provided no information on what I could or couldn’t eat from the carvery. He was obviously irritated. Surely the staff are trained for this? Of all the carvery’s I’ve been to I must say this experience was the worst. Most places are so helpful and explain what can and can’t be eaten. If you are coeliac then order at the bar and perhaps the staff may be more helpful. I’ve decided not to return to the Pig and Whistle. I will stick to the more helpful and frendly carvery’s.

14/04/25 Just been in with family and just WOW! We all had a carvery as it’s the signature dish and all options of food looked fresh and delicious. The mash and roasties were 10/10 themselves but the meat always is the star of the plate. Every visit the food is yummy but today really impressed us all. Thank you for such a great meal!

Great staff nice food but the place is scruffy really scruffy

Service was great, the staff are friendly and helpful. The set menu that they do is a great price for a starter, main meal and dessert all for under £15, thought that was a brilliant deal.

Great food but the pub is in need of a good refurb.

Wow!! That was an experience. The restaurant area was tired and tatty, the tables need a revarnish and the stratchings removed. The chairs were torn out ripped. The wallpaper was ripped out missing in parts. Had the carvery, it was OK but nothing special, and was barely warm. As for staff, apart from the carvery we only saw a waitress when she removed our plates. Inside was quite but had a unpleasant crowd outside smoking their joints of whatever, whilst unruly kids thankfully played outside. Not a place I'd return too

The owners of this place need to invest immediately. We came for a carvery and nothing was left except the beef, which took ages to come and was tough. The staff did very well under the circumstances. The facilities looked like a demolition site. I have known this place since the early eighties when it was one of the nicest places to drink and eat in Preston. I cannot imagine I will ever visit here again, so sad.

Been a few times now for the all you can eat breakfast. Excellent choice of good cooked food. Friendly staff

It was a lovely experience, food was excellent we had carvery's, the meat was so tender and not dry. The child's carvery included a child's make your own ice cream. Which is good for kids. We were allowed to have a birthday cake with candles, the people on the next table joined in singing happy birthday to my nephew. It also had oat milk available. It was a really good experience.

This used to be the best carvery. However the last couple of visits have not been a pleasant experience. Food was cold. When I complained to the wait person, he offered to put my lunch in the microwave🤷🤦. At this point I complained to the manager. All food was removed from the buffet area. Eventually replaced with fresh food. I had a fresh meal. Not once was I asked if the food was ok🥴. I was totally disappointed. I will not be going back. If this business wants to remain open it needs gutting & full refurb.

Took my mum out for lunch (carvery). Great atmosphere, fast and friendly staff , very good value for money. The Scottish fella behind the bar who greeted us was wonderfully helpful with the app we were using 10/10 cheers mate.

Warm Welcome on entry and served at the till. Alyssa brought desert for my daughter with a smile and a brief chat. Made my daughter’s day. Food was excellent. I took a small doggy bag home in a tub which Alyssa brought over with a smile. Really enjoyed our experience today . It makes such a difference to a wick bite to ear going out for tea if staff are as lovely as the ones today. Thank you so much!

Lots of choice.plenty space for families

The staff where amazing & helpful, just the food could be brought out on a hot plate! The place could do with shutting for a couple of weeks & have a right good renovation!! Outside looks so dirty and out of date. Inside, chairs with holes in. Carpet well worn. Toilets a right mess & smelly.

My partner booked a table for two as it was a valentines special food was lovely service was good pleasant service, but we was sat a very loud family with a lot of children , while trying to enjoy a meal all we could really hear was screaming children the atmosphere was extremely difficult to enjoy, it really has put us off coming back , totally understand it’s a family pub an everyone’s welcome but the seating could do with some thinking about . Family’s and big groups on one side an the smaller areas for couples to enjoy each others company in a peaceful environment everyone should enjoy the atmosphere other than that it was okay

The best breakfast I have had for some time. The staff were happy and friendly. The food was all nice and fresh.Things like black pudding and mushrooms included. Breakfast pizza and chicken wings (Yup not expected on breakfast but very welcome. There was lots of meat on them and they were cooked perfectly.

Went for the buffet breakfast which was amazing! So much choice, including waffles, chips, different cooked eggs, and everything else you would expect on a full English, plus loads of spreads for toast. You no longer have to pay for mushrooms separately and there is an unlimited tea and coffee option too. Highly recommend

No one came to apologise or make right the situation. The carvery vegetables were OK, at best. Thankfully the gravy was hot to help heat the tepid food. Will not be returning or recommending.

Great place to come with family... There's usually 16 of us. Fab choices of food and drinks for all. Friendly atmosphere. Great value for money. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

Disappointed to be fair. We used to come here quite regularly as the food was always amazing. This time, not so much. The carvery veg was all dry and wasn’t much available. There was also a very hard piece of onion stalk/skin that was in a calzone pizza that stuck into my partner’s gum. They did offer a discount/freebie which was nice although we didn’t accept. It’s cheap food and you ultimately get what you pay for.

The food was lovely the service was great, the restaurant could do with being refreshed up.

Decent pub grub. The manager was very friendly and even came over to the table to let us know when the breakfast buffet was ending. I had a selection of starters which were well cooked and tasty. The breakfast options are extensive and reasonably priced.

I go to the pig & whistle regularly but more Importantly every Christmas day lunch. The carvery is always on par and the staff are really friendly. Overall a great friendly place to eat out or drink and just chill out. ☆☆☆☆☆ Highly recommended.

The staff at the pig and whistle are very accommodating to my family needs while we enjoyed our Christmas meal. Always making sure we had everything we needed. We all had the 3 course festive menu which everyone loved as had a good choice for everyone.

Excellent food. I had from the menu my partner had the carvery. Both were excellent and staff very friendly and helpful. would recommend and definitely visit again. 2nd visit food and service just as good. Will make this a regular Food was lovely and atmosphere brilliant until the last round of drinks came. My grandson was questioned about his age and the server would not accept his id even after 3 seperate servers had served his drinks without any problem. She then took him from the table to see her supervisor which I found very humiliating, I would expect the supervisor to come to the table. I asked for The manager who reluctantly allowed the drink but did not even speak to me. We have always enjoyed meals here but I may look elsewhere in future

Lovely pub lovey food lovley service, Scarlett who is always all over the pub working very hard n very professional always wearing a smile, if I owned a pub she is the 1st person is I'd employ but no reflection on any of the other staff all are brilliant love my visits in there. 👍

Been in lots of times now & often get served by Scarlett who is lovely to the customers. She is pleasant & does a great job. I have had pub's & restaurants myself & would develop her skills further in the hospitality industry. She has got something extra with people skills. Just needs her confidence to develop further.
