Random drop after work on a dog walk - seriously AMAZING ….. food amazing, drinks standard massive selection… if your looking for a gastro pub —THIS IS IT , as for the staff - regardless of time of year and how busy they are - SECOND TO NONE 🙌🏽. Oh and did I mention. DOG FRIENDLY 🐾

Having been before for a lovely Sunday lunch, I was disappointed this time. I didn’t like the food from the normal menu, so will only go for Sunday lunch from now on.

strange place, all very mixed and matchy no real flow to it. outside was a mass, empty bottles and glasses, rubbish flying everywhere heaters not working and all furniture just run down, didn’t feel look or smell particularly clean

The service was excellent but the menu I did nor really like and found it confusing the sides are extra. I had the South West Atlantic Hake and I also had to order thick cut chips as the side. The Marble Sauce was bland the Hake really nice and the chips were not all that appetising. My wife had the belly pork again this was a small piece of pork. My wife and myself both give three stars. As the prices were similar to a restaurant, but the ambience is more of a pub.

Recently visited for the first time. We had a lovely meal and staff were excellent. Not 5 star for a couple of little things but nothing major and would definitely go again. I would suggest the Sangria recipe needs reviewing it tasted like mulled wine gone cold. I'm no expert but never had sangria tasting like that before. My wife had cheese pie,it was more potatoe than chesse. It tasted lovely and we didn't complain just a couple of things for consideration going forward. I had the sausage n mash dish which was excellent. Our friends had chicken burger which again they loved. The atmosphere was friendly and vibrant.

Ordered two Sunday roasts, one lamb and one beef. They were very impressive and tasty. The onky downfall was that the carrots were very hard still. The Yorkshire puddings are massive, we were supplied with extra jugs of gravy and red cabbage. It was all really good, would definitely return for a decent Sunday roast!!

A really lovely Sunday roast here. We had lamb which was accompanied by wonderful Yorkshire puddings, mash, roast, mashed carrots, root carrot, green beans, red cabbage and green beans, oh and gravy. It was absolutely yummy and the service is 100% too. Thanks ☺️ no photo as I couldn't wait to eat it

Came in yesterday when I was visiting from Liverpool as my friend lives near the pub. Lovely surroundings first off as you can walk along the River. The pub itself is spotless with plenty of room inside. The beer garden is a great size too and is dog friendly which i like. Food was lovely and came quite quickly even though it was a busy Saturday. I'll definetly come here again as I'd like to walk along the river again so it's nice to find somewhere to eat and drink. Ps the corn ribs were lovely

Arrived to a very busy pub, but our table was ready. Drinks arrived minutes after ordering, despite being busy. Good selection of meals, and specials too. Serving staff was happy to take the food order immediately. Slight wait for food, but that’s good as you know it’s being prepared fresh. We ordered the brisket Sunday roast and a sausage of the day. Well, what can I say ? It looked wonderful, like one of those Michelin restaurants. The most tender, delicious beef, and lots of it. Roast and mash. Sweet potato mash. Carrots cooked just right. Broccoli. A big Home made Yorkshire pudding. The most delicious gravy and red cabbage I’ve ever tasted. Compliments to the chef - 10 out of 10. Thanks to the attentive and polite staff we came into contact with.

Visited for food. Ordered chicken Caesar salad. Asked if I wanted anchovies which I said no. However the sauce had anchovies in it. I wasn’t told that prior which was disappointing. Lots of lettuce. 4 sundried tomatoes. Disappointing for £14.50. Veggie roast was lentil and cranberry loaf which was bland, Dry and not appealing. Rest of veggies etc were ok. Dessert was rhubarb mess. Wish it tasted more rhubarby. The rhubarb was quite hard. We also mentioned that they had Burrata on the menu as a veggie option. This is not normally the case so it will be interesting to see if it remains. The manager dealt with our complaint sympathetically. Staff were very friendly.

Went with friends food was awful person taking order stunk of cigarette smoke and was rude and with a couldn't care less attitude only had burgers and they were below average fare how these people get away with it is beyond all of us

Visited on the 4 May 2023 with friend's, service excellent. Drinks overpriced ripoff! Food I ordered Rybeye steak, which was very smelly and smelt off the Chef should not have served this steak, when we got back to the Hotel I was violently sick, will never go back again, definitely would not recommend.

I have never had a more positive and attentive dining experience than I have at the continental since i moved to Preston. Everyone from the waiting staff to the bar staff to the back of house staff were eager to make sure our visit exceeded our expectations! If you demand great service and a culinary experience, The Continental delivers both in abundance, a delightful place to have dinner and relax. Delicious well baked macaroni cheese and my vegan girlfriend had no shortage of choices either.

Nice pub, bar staff great and service ok. Food was really disappointing. Menu was not great and our choices didn't really come up to scratch, even for standard pub grub. We had a crustedTuna Steak which was tiny, dry and tasteless. We both had the Spicy Prawn Pasta which was, well, way to Spicy for a pub lunch! I don't mind Spicy but this was mouth burning and completely ruined what was a pretty easily put together meal. We both left more than half. Beer was good!

This was our first visit in about three years. Still a lovely venue with a quirky feel but so disappointed by the food relative to what we experienced before. There was always something a little bit different on the menu and now it just felt very limited. Just average, nothing more.

I live very close to the pub, and go there frequently for drinks and food with friends. My family came to visit from Brazil, so I took them there to have a nice pub experience, since it was their first time in the UK. It was a very warm and bright sunny day, so I wanted us to sit outside. Several tables had a reserved sign outside, so I asked the waiter if they had an available table there. He gave us a table inside, in a dark place, so I complained. He then moved us to one table outside. We then proceeded to order our food. My sister and my mum both ordered a Ceasar Salad, my sister ordered one with chicken, and my mum, with pulled beef. The food came and there was no cutlery on the table, and it took a while for them to bring it to us. We started eating and my mum complained that her food was very spicy, and we noticed the dish contained chili (there was no mention of it in the menu). She ended up eating it, but she didn't enjoy it at all. Then, as it was very dunny6, we asked the waiter if we could change tables to one in the shadow, which was empty, and had no reserved sign on it. He said no and said people would ge coming very shortly, which was really strange, considering that pubs usually reserve tables, but I've never heard of a specific table being reserved. Note that we finished eating and no one used the table. We also ordered tap water, for a table of 4. The waiter brought one glass and I had to remind him that there were the 4 of us. He then brought a jar with 4 glasses. Two of them were very dirty, oneeven had lipstick on it I'm really disappointed with our experience and with the fact my family didn't enjoy a good time as I wanted them to . I'll very hardly be back.

How can an establishment have a council rating of 5 when it allows a multitude of dogs at the tables ? Poor standards

The New Continental Preston - One of the best pub in Preston, a mecca for real ale aficionados, which also offers a superb food menu and serves as a popular live entertainment venue with its own theatre annexe. There is a very warm greenhouse-like conservatory, and a fabulous beer garden. Best of all, the pub is situated on the riverside of the Ribble close to Preston and neighbouring Penwortham, in the heart of the Avenham and Miller Park beauty spot. It is also very close to the train station. The meals look pricy but portions are very generous and service is magnificent. I had the linguini with bacon, and just about managed to finish it.

A very nice meal and the staff were all very helpful and pleasant. Chris who mainly looked after us was helpful, and had lots of information to assist any diners with questions they may have.

10.20 for two pints of Corona lager. You are having a giraffe for a non town centre pub. Nice setting but the prices are highest I have ever paid for a pint of lager outside of London. Ridiculous.

Booked table online and reserved a table booth, got to the conti and there was a couple in front of us who hadn’t booked in and was told it was fully booked. The lady at the door (manager I think)said she would squeeze them in, turned out that they were given the table I reserved, complained but fell upon deaf ears with the manageress. We was taken to our table by the same lady who I’m presuming was the manager, I asked for a drink whilst we look over the menu, she told us she would come back and take our drink order. 30 mins later she finally sent a young lad over to take the drinks order, we asked if we could place food order as well but was told he doesn’t do that so again we asked the manager could we place our order. She was very rude , insisted on serving the people she gave our table to first and then insisted on serving people that walked in well over 30 mins after us so in the end I paid for drinks and walked out. Went to town and had a fabulous meal and fabulous service at STRATTOS.Note to manager - Drop your attitude, and invest in some fans for the customers and more importantly your staff who run round trying to make amends for YOUR shocking customer service in baking hot heat!

The staff were intolerable and Incompetent when serving me and my friend. Our drinks were presented to us after a 40minute wait which I believe to me simple dis-functionality between the staff and catering members of the establishment. I was mistreated due to my hair colour and extreme height, so far to the point I was refused a refund. I buggered off to a pub in town and got smashed with the lads screw the conti big up the old black bull

First day reopening & the place was busy but very well organized. Food was served quickly (I know!) and was really nice. Plenty of attentive staff & an all round first rate experience. Well done!

I visited here with my family and friends. 2 of our party of 6 were vegan. Unfortunately the vegan (and veggie) options are very limited. The staff were lovely and trying their best to look after everyone post lock down. The set up was great. The beer garden is fab. The prices were more on than expected but I guess that's too cater for being closed for 3 months. I would go again but I would love more veggie options, veggie gravy and a nut Roast option for Sunday lunch please.

This is a lovely food pub with one of the best beer selections in Preston, good food and a scenic view of the river.

We were recommended this place and we were disappointed.The beer was great but the service was really slow. We ordered food, only soup & sandwich. After 15 minutes we were told that they no prawns so we adjusted our order. 30 minutes later we were still waiting while others who arrived after us were served before we were. Not impressed, we asked for a refund. We will not be going back!

I visit the Conti every now and again when in the area or meeting friends etc, mainly because of the good standard of food on offer, the service is not something I would usually describe as fantastic (rarely people come and take your order at the table, there’s no wine menu to view at the table, staff are fairly scruffy at times) yet they do eventually get the job done..However I visited earlier this week at a lunch time and the service was beyond terrible. Plates and glasses everywhere, nobody clearing dirty plates, person serving looked like a rabbit in headlights, completely clueless, got our order wrong and seemed to not be very bothered about this at all!! Really disappointing level of service, which ultimately lets the place down time and time again but this was something else! Also to mention, the women’s toilets are pretty disgusting, considering how busy the place gets, the toilets really should be looking and smelling much better than they currently do so! Really hope management can do something to correct the service and the toilets as otherwise I won’t be coming back again.

They have changed the chicken pie! It was nice before but my word they’ve made it even better. The pastry was the nicest I’ve ever tasted and the chicken was tasty and plentiful. Bob on chips and proper gravy. My fella had the sausages and they were equally as good. Love this place

Love this pub. Staff are always pleasant and accommodating. We chilled out in the Snug after a long walk then ate a fantastic winter warming meal: Sirloin steak with Lancashire Blue mash, watercress and red wine gravy. Delicious.

I came with a group of friends for a meal and we loved everything, Christmas time and the venue was dressed with beautiful lights and carol singers, house wine was lovely and 3/4 of our meals were fantastic however I ordered a salad and side of chips and really felt my time was wasted, my salad consisted of 3 very small slices of pear, 3 half walnuts, 4 tiny cubes of cheese and a small handful of mixed salad leaves (according to previous reviews, the salads have been a problem for others in the past) so don’t order the salad if you’re looking for more than a mouthful but other than that we had a great day.

We are a group of ex colleagues who do a monthly walk. Our Christmas event was in Preston and we booked The Continental.We pre-booked our 3 course Xmas dinners.The staff were well organised and service was excellent.There was a good selection of which was well kept.Turning to the food, all the courses were very well presented, served on hot plates and were very nice. All of our group were very impressed.

On our lunchtime walk we stopped here to grab a drink/lunch. We had a very good lunch but the service was extremely slow. We waited for 35 minutes on a Sunday. If your not in a hurry, stop on by.

The setting is perfect. Lunchtimes are often quiet and as expected the service was excellent and the beer was excellent. Why then the average rating? The menu is stunted, rather uninspired and although the food was wholesome it was not by any stretch of the imagination 'unforgettable!' Eight old friends catching up whilst the rain poured all stuggled to find something they really wanted. The fragipane pudding came out top for tatse. The hake steak priced at £18 was insipid and the samphire did not elevate it to anything special. We joked how hake was bought as a cheap substitute for haddock 'in the old days' and the caramalised rice pudding was given similar scorn. We enjoyed ourselves but not great value for money.

Just arrived for Big Boy Bloater at the Continental and it is very busy....however mainly diners. Used to frequent this “pub” years ago and it is different. Food is good though more bistro than pub fare - prices reflect. Looking forward to the band - have been twice in the last month - well organised and a great live venue. Good selection of beers at fair pricing. Outdoor area is superb and dogs on leads are welcome - obviously best in summer. The snug bar is brilliant with leather sofas and a laid back atmosphere - would recommend and if you want food it is probably worth booking at weekends. Check website for forthcoming attractions.

Went for a light lunch recently. Like a lot of places it has both good and bad points.

When a thug with an large irish wolfhound went out of his way to deliberately walk up to my smaller dog who was scared causing all our drinks to be spilled..the staff offered to refund our drinks. They were very understanding. If the thug with the irish wolfhound is there make sure you keep well out of the way - he will deliberately walk up to your dog to cause trouble and then shout at you for not controlling your dog. A very intimidating rude man. Thank you to the Continental staff for being so understanding.

Hummus and homemade muffins was dreadful. Bland and both tasted of nothing at all. Others had mains and were more than happy. My peach Melba was stunning! Great waiter, very slow service. Great menu. Please get the chef to actually taste because that hummus/muffins .........

Love this pub but hadn't eaten here for a while but was out with a group of people. Based on our last eating experience two of us decided to share sandwiches and chips between us for lunch. I recommend you don't do this as the sandwiches have halved in size and we only got a very small dish of chips. Good service but we had pre-ordered. I won't be ordering sandwiches again if I return!

A couple of friends and I (plus our dog) took advantage of a beautiful sunny day last week and had lunch at the Continental pub/restaurant in Preston.

As an organiser of several social groups in Lancashire I tried to book a table for 8 people for Saturday 15th June in plenty of time. My first phone call was answered with 'we have no tables but will get the manager to call you tomorrow' after I explained we had purchased tickets at £8 each to the 80's event on that night. When the manager called me he offered a table at 8.15 assuring me that we would be finished eating in time for the 9pm event. We arrived shortly after 8pm, queued for 15 minutes at the bar because of short staffing and then ordered our food at 8.27. At 9pm when the event started we enquired how long our meal would be and was told 'in 2 or 3 minutes'. In fact we were served at 9.30 after again complaining about the delay. Members of the group dissatified with the service asked the manager what he could do to compensate considering we had paid for tickets to an event and were missing the start. He answer was 'I will think about it' and he never returned to our table. The meals were dissapointing , I had ordered salmon salad and was served a bowl of lettuce with 1 cherry tomato and a piece of salmon on top. When I realised this was £12 I felt I was being ripped off so sought the manager out and politely complained. After 5 minutes he begrudingly remarked 'If you dont like it then I will refund your meal' . When the other members of the group had finished we were still waiting for the waitress to clear the table and present the bill for quite some time that 2 members of the group went to find the manager once again. After some lengthly discussion he offered to reduce the total bill by £20. His attitude as a manager and how he dealt with this left a lot to be desired.

Love this place. Quite happy to wait for a friend alone or have a drink or meal with friends. The food is great and there is always a nice welcome and atmosphere. The beer garden is perfect for a weekend or evening and the abundance of customers’ dogs is a friendly bonus. Miller/Avenham Parks and The Guildwheel are right on the doorstep. If it wasn’t my local I’d travel to it. Do yourself a favour and visit!

The Continental is one of those restaurants where they will genuinely try to accommodate any dietary needs you may have. I have eaten there with just one friend, but also as part of a large group, and I was never made to feel that my vegan and gluten free diet was a problem for them.

Booked a table for 1.30 on a week day the place was very quiet.When I tried to order mine was told there was no substitutes but told them I didn't do dairy but they finally agreed to swap mash for boiled..... why should that be a problem..... We waited over an hour for the meal to arrive and when it did mine had the wrong potatoes on my plate but also I had a bowl of potatoes served to me,I must say the waiter did quickly sort it out.

Can’t believe the chips let you down so much - rest of the meal was of high standard as usual, but the chips had blatantly been sat for a long time before reaching our table, I highly recommend your food , I was disappointed letting the easiest part of the meal let you down

The food is so excellent. The service is friendly but maddeningly slow. I have waitressed for 12 years and I am a pretty understanding customer. But c'mon people, up your game! I don't mind waiting for great food. I mind waiting too long to order and then waiting forever for desert with no sorry that took so long or sorry I forgot your order.

First of all, when I go to order from the special menu for the lamb rump, I asked if I could change potato from mash to something else as I don’t eat dairy and mash tends to contain cream. The rude response I got was ‘No, no substitutions at all, Chef rules’ were her exact words! Paying £16 for a special and can’t change the potato choice seemed odd to me. So we opted for the Sunday roast which was cheaper anyway so I guess their loss. But no Yorkshire puddings? Then the veg arrived!! No words. My kids first words were ‘urghh’ and they love carrots and broccoli usually. Some of the carrots were rotten and my husband found a fly on his cabbage. On the upside the meat was tasty and homemade stuffing and gravy was nice. But nobody offered us sauce or asked how our meal was at all. Unimpressed overall.

Came last year with my partner & 2 friends, the food was good, pleasant staff, decor has been updated & always a good atmosphere. I would say it’s a little pricey but some may disagree. Recommended to see for yourself :)

Went with a family member who requested chips instead of potatoes for serious health reasons, which they explained. Manager said the chef would not substitute and then brought BOTH and charged an extra £3.50. Disgusted. Anyone with health issues be aware of this place.

Went for a birthday meal and food was fantastic, very good value for money and as a bonus you can also take your doggies too, but they have to be kept on a lead. Also a beer garden for summer

Called in to treat a friend to lunch. There were three of us and we all had the cheese, onion and potato pie. It was excellent, freshly prepared and cooked and served with generous portions of very nice chips. The range of beers and ales on tap is very broad and impressive Service at the bar was quick. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. The pub is in a very nice location and has a large outdoor area at the back if you want to have your drinks and food outside. Parking is ample. You order your food at your table, and this took perhaps a bit longer than it should have. But once we’d placed our order, the food came quite quickly and was piping hot. Our designated driver was very impressed with the condiments supplied with his pot of tea. Overall a great place for lunch. It’s also dog friendly which is a huge bonus.

A party of about 22 of us went for a St. David’s day lunch. I had the soup for starters which was VERY hot (I had to wait at least five minutes for it to cool). The main was lamb which was delicious. I had the chocolate terrine for dessert which was also very nice. The service was reasonable given the large size of our party. We have used this venue several times and hope to continue using it in the future.

We go quite regularly to have a drink after our dog walk some unusual lagers and beers and well worth a visit, we had been shopping in Preston and then a lovely walk by the river and in the park, nice light lunch with excellent ingredients well cooked and presented we both had the brioche rarebit with black pudding, bacon and fried ducks egg and a side of hand cut chips to share all I can say is excellent,

It took some finding as our satnav took us round the houses. The pub is next to the river and a beautiful park. We walked the dog around the park then went into this dog friendly place. The food was great. We had soup and a sandwich deal. The soup was homemade mushroom and plenty of it. The sandwich was on fresh bread. Two of us had prawn on brown and one had cheese on brown. The beer was good as too was the white Sauvignon blanc. The staff were very friendly.

Always heard good reviews. Went Christmas eve and the food was not good at all. Dried up sandwich rock hard chips. Won't be going back.

Very good good food lovely pub in the summer to eat and drink they have entertainment on but need to check out when and what it will be been to see a play there once amateurs but good

Called in on a Saturday early evening for food. It was very busy, so we found a table in the conservatory next to a very hot radiator. The whole place was very hot!

We visited the Continental for Thursday lunch after reading a recommendation by the Turner Prizewinner Lubaina Hamid. She described walking from her home in Avenham along the Ribble to this pub. Suffice it to say the walk itself is fabulous and the food was lovely. A varied menu with great vegetarian options. The puddings were also exceptional. None of your usual bought in stuff. They really are a work of art in themselves. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A decent amount of time was spent between courses but we felt that this enabled us to enjoy both the ambience of the place and to make room for the next course. Will be visiting again soon.

The conty has a good atmosphere and has intresting menu, are party of 10 all enjoyed, the true measure of a eating experience, is will you be back for more, the verdict is yes we will.

We visited this pub for a Sunday lunch. They only had one roast available (lamb) but the remainder of the menu was varied and extensive. The food was delicious when it eventually arrived but such a shame that the service was very slow. The waiters were all friendly and polite but every aspect took an age. We waited to order, we waited ages for the food, empty plates were left on the table and we waited again to have them cleared and get a dessert menu. We then waited to order dessert. You get the picture. Also the one simple request of 'No gravy' on one of the meals was ignored by the chef. In brief, nice pub with tasty food but be prepared for a wait. We were there nearly 3 hours!! This could be so easily rectified with better trained staff who don't just focus on the one job at hand. If you serve a table food and on the way back see empty plates take them with you. Save time and another journey. Simple restaurant management. Full hands out, full hands in!

I never cease to be amazed at how this place consistently serves a bad pint, I wouldn't mind if it was cheap....this place trades on a reputation which may have been justified a long time ago bit now can't be justified....avoid if you appreciate well kept beer

We visited here a few times over the last year and always enjoy the hearty Sunday meals. It’s good for kids as it’s spacious and they can play outside on a nice day
