The garden of this establishment is really lovely and the perfect surroundings for lunch. The menu is extensive and the service is very good. The light bites were more than enough for a meal with my wife keeping half of her chicken and bacon baguette for later. The food is excellent and I recommend the crab and prawn salad from the light bite menu. A substantial meal served with half a hot baguette. We will be going back whilst we are on holiday.

Food was very nice. Staff were polite, though it was a bit disheartening to go past a group of them on the way out and for not one to acknowledge us saying thank you/good night. We were literally the last people in. Also, having worked in a pub kitchen before, hearing the kitchen grumble about someone ordering a sundae right at the end of service really made me feel awkward, as I know it's a pain, but if it's that awful, take it off the menu! All in all, a very good meal and would definitely recommend. Price was excellent and portions generous!

We visited here whilst walking the Coast Path. We were unsure of where to go as lots of reviews were mixed for most places in St Just. We decided on the Commercial, and were so glad we did! The service was great. It quickly filled up with people despite being a Tuesday night. We ordered fish and chips - portion size was good, they were hot, fish was fresh and nothing was greasy. We’d definitely recommend this place for dinner!

We booked a stay at The Commercial as part of our anniversary celebrations. Being in the centre of St Just, we expected a little bit of noise from the road but not inside the hotel all through the night. Long after the bar closed, there was shouting and doors banging which meant for a disturbed night. The bed was pretty uncomfortable and (at 6ft 5) the bars at the end made it impossible to stretch out. When the noise of a hoover started at 7am on a Sunday morning, it was a stretch too far and we wouldn't recommend people stay if they want a relaxing break. Saying that, while we didn't eat an evening meal in the hotel the food looked fab, and the full English breakfast was good. The staff, as I said in the title, were very pleasant, welcoming and helpful.

We have stayed at the Commercial Hotel several times and always had a great time. Michelle make you feel like one of the family rather than a guest. The service is second to none. We own a restaurant ourselves and are frequently 'underwhelmed' on the rare occasions we manage to go out - but we can cheerfully 'announce' that the food is very good and recommend the Sunday Lunch. The breakfasts are cooked perfectly to order with good ingredients and presented beautifully by well trained staff. This hotel is the centre of the village and we can see why its very busy with very friendly locals. In fact we didn't go any where else as we were encouraged to stay and take part in the 'Feast' and we are glad we did - had a great time... and will be back !

We ate here on Wednesday 21 July 2021 whilst looking for somewhere relatively local to Sennen Cove at last minute. When we first walked in, we were slightly apprehensive. The room to the right-hand side as you walk in gives an institutional feel and resembles a social club in our eyes. Front of house greeted us and we asked if there was any availability for dinner. Once this was checked, we were shown to our table. The dining area has a slightly odd feel to it, but it was not an unpleasant atmosphere. The menu did not inspire confidence after getting a generally impression of the restaurant. We ordered chicken and lasagne options, with drinks also.Quite simply, the food is average at best, but it came out swiftly enough. The service from the young adults working here was superb. This was the best service we had during an entire mini break in Cornwall from 19-23 July 2021. We were looked after by multiple individuals who asked if we wanted drinks, a dessert menu and were generally all-around friendly and efficient. When not dealing with customers, they were cleaning down tables and keeping busy. Generous three for food and value for money associated with that, but five for service. Overall, it was a surprisingly pleasant experience.

Small, thin - and completely lost in the batter.Just about a “very good” experience …

We booked a table for 6pm and initially the service was good with prompt attendance to take a drinks and then food order. The food was good, mains of fish and chips and crab linguine, we were then waiting a while for the table to be cleared. We requested the desert menu and intended to order more drinks. There was then a brief interruption with the fire alarm but that wasn’t long or a problem. What then became irritating was a total lack of service. We waited at least 10 minutes with numerous waiting staff passing by to serve other people. We could understand if there was a priority to get hot food out but for no one to even acknowledge that we were waiting with no drinks was very poor. After 15-20 minutes we requested the bill, paid and left. We did comment to the waitress that the service was poor and her response was to blame the fire alarm. The impression we had was that they wanted the table and so didn’t want us to order anything else. We wouldn’t eat here again.

We have caled in numerous times during the week we have been visiting St Just and just had drinks but booked a meal for Friday the last evening of our holiday. The beer garden is a sun trap and so pleasant to sit in with deck chairs and lovely plants and surroundings. All Covid measures adhered to with track and trace and wearing of masks. We ordered a fish bait starter which was tasty but the best bit was our individually baked steak and ale pie. The portion was huge and I had mash whilst my hubby had chips both equally as good as each other. The steak in the pie was tender and the pastry was divine wish we lived closer but will definitely visit again just for this if in the area. I'd booked a table earlier in the day as the noticeboard outside the hotel advised. Having donned our masks and sanitized our hands we made our way to the bar where we were met by a friendly staff member who showed us to our table in their dining room. A sterile looking room at the front overlooking the road. Having been given the menus the waitress disappeared back to the cozy looking busy bar at the back. I don't blame her as that's where the atmosphere was to be found. Anyway she returned took our orders. We both went for the curry special. Curry and a pint £9.95 each. I chose the beef, Jude chose the Chicken tikka washed down with a pint of Doombar. When the food arrived it looked good, nicely presented with a naan bread on the side. My beef curry was hot and had some spice to it, which was fine but the meat cubes were a little tough, maybe needing to be left in the sauce longer whilst cooking to take on the flavour and to break up a bit. Judes chicken tikka looked better, the meat being more tender. Apart from that the dishes looked identical - the sauce tasting the same. But as it was the special and at £9.95 we overlooked that and we both enjoyed the meals. We would return and probably have the same again. But having finished the meal we paid and headed to the pub across the street.

The dining room (basic) is shared with the reception desk which is not ideal from a C19 perspective. They do have a conservatory area in which you can eat but this can be crowded. The food though wad very good with reasonable choice on the menu and everything (including wine) was reasonably priced. Most staff were efficient and friendly (but sadly with the exception of 1 co-manager - NOT Damon who was excellent!) This review could have been a '4 '*(St Just is an excellent area to explore from & The Commercial is the best hotel in town), however i also hovered over '2'due to their lack of attention to C19 safety measures on 1 particular occasion plus 'that member of staff'... I've seen more seafood in my local swimming pool.. very expensive for a miniscule piece of salmon, some dried up old whitebait and some prawns that looked like they had been tipped out of an Iceland bag... My chicken and bacon pie was cheaply made, the mash was frozen and the veg were hilarious.. honestly people, do not waste your money. We had one drink each and the bill was nearly 40 quid.. the staff were indifferent when we told them we were disappointed..All I can really say is don't eat here.. I am surprised to see the good reviews as I found this food very average. I was very disappointed by the obvious frozen-reheatedness of the food. The starter had a bit of salad with it and there were dark green slimy bits of past it lettuce/rocket/spinach in it, which I pointed out, then the main came which also had salad, and lo and behold loads more past it leaves, utterly foul and surprising to me as I'd already pointed it out. Call me fussy but that is not a high standard of food hygiene or deliciousness. Nah, not good, and the fish pie was very heavy and not to my taste at all. Thought it was a bit like a Wetherspoons actually (from what I've heard!).

My friend and I just love fresh crab sandwiches when we're in Cornwall but the quality and price can vary wildly. Our favourite eatery for said crab sandwiches, which shall remain nameless, has recently changed hands and the new owners are now charging £16.00 for a crab sandwich and side salad. Granted it was nice but £16.00 was just too steep for us. So, we have been searching for somewhere else to fulfil our insatiable appetite for our crab sandwiches... and we've finally found it! The restaurant of The Commerical Inn in St Just came up trumps. A delicious crab and lime mayonnaise sandwich with side salad and all for £9.50. Now that's what I call value for money! We ate in the lovely conservatory though there are other places to eat within this lovely hotel including ouside seating but, as it was pouring with rain, we decided inside was the dryer option. The waiter was really helpful and pleasant and service was quite quick. We also ordered a side of chips between us and these were lovely and obviously fresh and home-made. We had a look at the rest of the menu for another occasion and I fancied the steak and ale pie but I have an acute dislike of onions. As we were leaving the chef was in the bar, so I took the opportunity to ask him if the steak and ale pie was very oniony. He said he had a batch of the filling currently cooking on the stove and kindly fetched me a small dish to sample. It was delicious and not too oniony for my taste. We fully intended to return that evening for an evening meal but torrential rain put us off leaving our caravan, but we will definitely return here again when on holiday next year.

Have been coming here for over 20 years for Sunday lunch with my family. Have happily given five star reviews before. The Sunday roast is usually awesome and excellent value for £8.50. In many ways it is a perfect venue with a public bar and , pool table, function room and smaller side room for additional eating.Last time we came was 4 months ago and it was fab. Today the general feeling from all of us was that things had let slip. Things didn’t get off to a good start: we had to send some cutlery back because it had food on it. The young lady who served us kept forgetting to bring things we had asked for. We had to ask for our drinks twice and we ended up going up to the counter for the condiments which we had requested. Minor points perhaps but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect your horseradish sauce with the beef. We chose to wait but risked the food going cold. With respect to the food, the Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and gravy were all great as usual. I felt the vegetable and meat portions were smaller and the beef was over cooked. This could have just been a blip: I gather there was a festival in St Just the previous day and one of the staff was as they described it was “hanging”.If I were to offer a constructive observation it would be this; the Commercial always benefitted from the presence of the old lady who played the “mine host” role well. She circulated amongst the customers checking that everything was alright. That way any niggles were addressed early and corrected. On the occasion we visited it didn’t feel like anyone was in charge. The staff didn’t feel on it.I can see that the manager reads the reviews and I hope he/she understands that these comments have been as objective as possible.

Very disappointing - although I’ve been coming down to Cornwall for over fifty years, I’ve never eaten at the Commercial before. Rather than cooking Sunday lunch, we decided to try Sunday lunch at the Commercial. Although the vegetables had been cooked fresh, the swede was watery, the roast potatoes weren’t crispy and we were presented with three tiny slices of beef and watery gravy. All in all, it all felt as though not a lot of effort had been put into preparing the meal.

We all enjoyed what we had with my Homemade Steak Pie (which came with chips)especially good as it was so light, with succulent meat and nice gravy filling rather than being dry as can so often be the case elsewhere. The Fish and Chips and Hake Risotto were also well received by our table. Sweets were no less satisfying , these including Eton Mess and Lemon & Vanilla Cheesecake. Service was friendly and prompt in the bar area where we chose to sit although there is also an internal well-lit restaurant at the back. My husband and myself actually liked the look of the other two pubs in the square in St Just better, but on internal inspection opted for the Commercial as they have a lovely airy dining room to the rear. We shared the prawns and scallops starter, the scallops were excellent, my husband said the best he'd ever eaten. Husband had the enormous steak and ale pie and was very happy and ate the lot, I had a burger, which was fresh and hand made. Overall the food was very good pub food but the service was a bit poor mainly as the servers were very young and didn't seem to have anyone with more experience guiding them. Cost was just under £40 including a large glass of wine for me so about right for the food we had. Would go back.

We book a couple of hours in advance and were shown to the light airy conservatory dining room. Although just across the square from the Kings Arms, the ambience is quite different because of the glass roofed dining room. The food was not quite as good as the Kings Arms. I had quite a bland risotto dish and the desserts are not as impressive but the food is good all the same.

We ate here in the large light conservatory for three evenings during our week in St Just. There are a number of young waiters who worked hard and were welcoming. We tried the pies, fish in batter and fish pie which were all excellent.

Whilst staying in st. just thought we try it was happy with service and quality of food. The pies are gigantic could serve 2 tbh lovely crispy but also soft pastry. The chicken and chorizo pie was delightful as was my daughters steak and ale pie. When served was thinking maybe gravy on side would have been nice, until we cut into them and the delicious filling spilled out. Hubby had the gammon which also was a good size. 3 delicious meals washed down with a bottle of Rose what more could top off a great day in sunny St just

Called in a couple of weeks ago for Sunday lunch ( advisable to book ) such a nice change to have more of a choice than a roast, I had the beef lasagne with fresh crusty bread, really enjoyed it washed down with a few pints of Doom bar, sandwiches were available if I just wanted a quick snack. Were back again this week.

Over all the years that we have been coming down with our friends for another Minack performance, St Just has been rising from the 'loss' of the mining industry, and the Commercial has been a leading light in the town. The restaurant is always a good place to head for, with good menu, plus specials board that offers Cornwall 'on a plate'. Lovely staff & an atmosphere to enjoy the meal. Another excellent meal, we look forward to the next time - thank you.

My partner and I went for an evening meal here this week. Really impressed. For starter my partner had white bait and I chose the bbq ribs- wasn’t quite expecting 9 ribs for a starter!! Glad I had a hungry assistant to help me polish them off!! For mains he ordered the steak and Ale pie.... pie was fabulous, the mash and veg also tasty and well seasoned but the mash over worked and a bit glupy and the whole dish had the appearance of a school dinner which let it down aesthetically. I had the Cajun chicken burger with lime mayo, coleslaw and chips, chicken well spiced and beautifully moist and complimented beautifully by the lime mayo.

I had a lovely meal at The Commercial Pub in St Just. They have two dining rooms, one at the reception are where we sat and a huge atrium lounge little further down the hallway. dogs were welcome too. I had a brilliant Beef pie which was encased in the most beautiful pastry. Made on the premises I was told. Well congrats to whoever makes them.

Lastima no haber podido volver. Lo recomendamos sin duda.

After walking around trying to find a dog friendly place to eat this was our last chance. The place doesn't look much from the outside and the dining room we ate in was more like a cafe. However the service we received was exceptional and the food was presented and cooked to perfection.

Four of us visiting again, 13 years or so holidaying in West Cornwall and the Commercial is always one of our eat out nights. Crab starter for me, worth the price and a Hake main, I couldn’t think of a better main. The boys had home made chicken nuggets and Gammon and chips all polished off, Spanish chicken for Mrs Young and all that’s left was a super pint of Atlantic, well actually 2. Good service, location and prices very fair.

My wife and I had breakfast here. We both ordered the Traditional Cornish Breakfast which was a standard Full English with a miniscule piece of hogs pudding in place of the usual black pudding. The portion was disappointing albeit tasty. The young man who took the orders looked rather unkempt but efficient enough.

We turned up late on a Friday night (9 pm) after returning from the Isles of Scilly when other establishments refused us a table as they were finishing serving. Staff here had no hesitation in saying we could get something to eat. The menu was fine and we found something to suit us. The young waitress took our order, but came back two minutes later as she'd forgotten what we ordered. The food was good and service adequate. A small but welcome touch was that the sachets of sauce, etc. came with a pair of scissors - saved all that tearing with your teeth, then spraying the sauce all over! Why can't other restaurants do something as simple as this? As it was so late we were the only diners in the small to the right just inside the front door, so obviously little atmosphere, but we were grateful that they fed us!

We stopped off at The Commercial for lunch whilst visiting St Just and the Lands End peninsula. The menu looked like it offered a good range of food for all our tastes. The restaurant was a great find, the staff and customers really friendly. The seating in the beer garden was great in the sun and the food fantastic. The lobster the best I have eaten, the steak and the fish pie amazing. A lovely relaxing place to visit with fantastic food.

Food and table service good. Modernised dining room light and airy, set in an old inn in delightful St Just. Menu small but thoughtful. Food and wine moderately priced - about £23 each for starter, main, coffee, excluding wine.

This hotel has a restaurant as opposed to a few table in a bar. The menu is quite varied and the food very good I particularly enjoyed the pasta dish with crab.

We had a larger party eating here but our experience was outstanding. The food was amazing and the pretty outside space was an unexpected surprise. When I’m in the area again I will especially pay a visit here. It was recommended by my sister who had been there the previous month.

We booked for dinner on a warm summer evening, the hotel was busy but the staff were friendly at all times. Food was good, particularly the risotto from the specials menu. Our waitress, Emily, was excellent; very friendly and composed.

We went here twice during a week's family holiday in Cornwall. We enjoyed our first meal so much that we booked to go back. The pub is frequented by locals, meaning it has a genuine atmosphere and wasn't just full of holiday-makers from out of town. The staff were very friendly, particularly the barman who went out of his way to help us out on more than one occasion.

We were staying at The Wellington but couldn't eat there as they were renewing their kitchen so came across to The Commercial. We had a lovely meal here, we both had steak and ale pie and it was the best I have tasted. The pastry was light and crispy and the pie was full of tender steak. There were only a few people eating so not much atmosphere but worth going for the pie!

What a find. Did a coastal walk and was looking for a nice place for a drink - this was amazing. lovely staff - we sat in the restaurant to watch the sun go down and then moved to sit by a blazing fire. Were not planning to eat but seemed we just had too. The 'best fish and chips I have ever had' for GF and wonderful Sausage and Mash. Such a nice place and total surpise treat for us. Will return for sure - the best sunset view I have seen.. Thank you

15 Falmouth Road Runners ran from the Queens Arms this morning, then bundled back in for breakfast afterwards. Gary and the team looked after us splendidly! Cooked breakfasts, veggie breakfast, avo, things on toast and loads of tea & coffee. All served up by friendly and efficient staff, and no time at all. Awesome!

Having not been here in over a year we thought we would have an evening out as we had always enjoyed the food and atmosphere, sadly we were disappointed and did not end up staying for food. Firstly on entering we could not smell and food smells only a damp musty smell. We ordered drinks and were shocked at the price, over £10 for a shandy and half a glass of lime and soda. On being seated upstairs it felt chilly, the table was grubby and the light feature on the table did not work. Awful pop music playing in the background was being drowned out by the bellowing voice of the chef downstairs in the kitchen, we could hear most of what he was saying including the 'F' words. After sitting for 10 mins we realised that the dish I would be ordering (slow cooked pork belly)was obviously not cooking so would most probably have been microwaved along with the dauphinoise potatoes, and the noise of the chef and music we decided to leave and eat elsewhere. Such a shame that this once lovely restaurant lacked atmosphere, fresh cooked food and respect for customers from the chef!

Don't be put off by some of the negative 1 star reviews (some seem suspiciously negative and unreal.) Certainly this pub has seen much better days and yes it is looking very run down and tired. The staff are excellent, genuinely freindly and welcoming. The rear restaurant overlooking the beach is generally closed for the winter months but the front bar is warm and cosy with a large log burner. Food and drink wise is exceptional for its pricing. Currently doing a daytime deal of 'Light bites' at £10.00 each - Don't be mislead by the term 'Light' these are full meals which are cooked to a very high standard by an obviously capable chef. well kept beer around £5.00 pint - not too far off spoons pricing during the day (But better quality food i.M.H.O ) The main problems have been historic since the pandemic, and like many pubs have struggled with costs and staffing but the current managerment/staff really are turning this around. The actual owners seem not to want to spend any money on the building perhaps to demolish it and build yet more unnecessary flats? Remember people - use them or lose them.

We used to love popping in here when we were in Truro, you would be lucky to get a seat but now it’s take your pick. In a nutshell the place has lost its soul.
