Visited for Sunday Lunch with my aunt and uncle. Couldn't fault the food or service. Massive thank you 👏 👏

We were a group of 20 cyclists who came in for a ploughman's lunch, which we had booked in advance, the food was excellent, and plenty of it, and good value for money. The Landlord and Landlady were most welcoming and really made us feel at home and we cannot recommend it highly enough, and would certainly visit again if we are ever in the area.

Although the pub was open there was sadly no food available due to staff holiday. The message you learn with pubs these days is to not rely on them for an evening meal. It is a troubled industry.

Visit with two friends whilst we were camping locally. On both occasions we were made very welcome with helpful Bar & Restaurant Staff. Nothing too much trouble. Extremely generous food portions, hot & very tasty! Good thing we were advised to book as the place can get very busy. With service like this it was no wonder. Highly recommended. Wil most certainly call again.

The communication prior to our visit was great. We were a party of 12 and were asked to pre-order our food prior to our evening out, which was no trouble at all. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Everyone enjoyed their meals, which were plentiful and delicious! We will definitely be going again!

This certainly is an excellent pub with fantastic food. Cathy, Vicky and George always make you welcome. Look out for the Friday curry nights and Lunch on a Sunday…… you won’t be disappointed!

We actually won a meal for two in a local raffle, booked up for Sunday lunch, the owners were very helpful during the booking process. Arrived for the meal and all I can say was we could not fault it at all, from the service to the food and such friendly owners too. We will definitely return soon. I had roast beef and my wife had the Pork, outstanding. If you are in the area give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Fantastic welcome, food all home cooked and bloody delicious! French onion soup for starters with a gorgeous cheese crouton, stunning! Chicken in the pie literally melted in your mouth, homemade chips...Best I've had in a LONG time! Will definitely be returning when back in this area!!!

We moved to the area 12 months ago and always intended to visit the Comet Inn but never got round to it. This evening we decided to give it a go and what a great experience we had. Staff were very welcoming and friendly and the food was amazing, as was the service. I would highly recommend the four cheese and mushroom Farfalle. We will definitely be visiting more often.

The Comet allowed us the honour of hosting our wedding in their beautiful garden, they were so accommodating, totally professional from the start of planning until the last guest departed. Constantly in contact, took charge of the setting up and were totally attentive to every single guest. Cathy and Vicky and all the wonderful staff worked non stop during the evening even with the heat of the weather. They are all a credit to themselves and did us proud. A beautiful location surrounded by picturesque wheat fields. We can't thank them enough for all they did for us, above and beyond what we expected. Will always have a place in our hearts.

I struggled to decide between the Sirloin Steak and the Steak and Ale pie, so i went for the pie and to be honest with you i got the best of both worlds, big generous chunks of tender steak in a thick rich sauce, very generous portion of chips an all round magnificent meal. Freindly attentive service and an atomsphere that is pure class, will be going back LOTS

Stopped at this pub on way home to try their menu yet as soon as we walked in was told that they were fully booked yet there were a lot of empty tables inside and out, wewasn't even offered to wait until one became available very poor effort won't be trying again

We were not disappointed on our return visit!!! Loving the new addition of Brie wedges to the starters and the risotto didn’t disappoint! My steak was cooked to perfection and the home made curry was delicious! Thanks for looking after us again.

I was escorting a group of cyclists from St Davids to Lowestoft, and our 2nd day lunch stop was at a nearby pub who couldn't be bothered to open. However a quick call to the nearby Comet and lunch was rescued. 8 of us sat down and had lunch which was beautifully served, and my French onion soup was honestly the best soup I have eaten in recent memory. Apparently it has brandy in it. I wish I lived locally!

Had a xmas meal with 15 friends, the food was outstanding, i dont think i saw a single plate go back with any scrap on it. These girls have converted me to a lover of brussel sprouts. Everything was homemade and the irish liqueur cheesecake was divine. The Comet sure knows how to entertain, will definately be going back for more....thank you for a wonderful evening!

What can I say the choice of real ale was terrible The kitchen was closed on Wednesday And the noise in the bar from the locals was so bad we moved out to the garden by the busy roadI would definitely avoid this place I camp all over the the uk and always look for a camp site near a good pub I will never go back to Madley in Hereford

My partner and I visited the Comet, Madley for lunch last Sunday. On arrival the car park was practically full and we were doubtful that we would be able to get a table as we hadn't pre-booked.We spoke to Cathy who told us we could be stated once all the parties that had pre-booked had been seated and had placed their orders, they had priority and rightly so in a professional environment.We were happy to wait in the clean and comfortable lounge, enjoying a drink and chat with other customers.Only after a half hour wait we were invited to our table, it was now 1:45. We ordered roast beef and roast pork, it was superb!If you want tasty succulent roast served with fresh perfectly cooked vegetables and delicious gravy at good value for money then this is the venue you are looking for. Vicky the crackling was divine!We have eaten here about a dozen times in the past 12 months and have not been disappointed.Thankyou to Vicky, Cathy, George and your staff for making us welcome and for feeding us so well.See you soon

I tried this pub for the first time on a Friday night. The staff were very friendly and polite. The vegetable risotto was beautiful and they gave you the option to have the salad dressed or not (nothing worse when it comes soaked in some horrible dressing). Very cheap for a lovely place! Will definitely be returning.

I live about half a mile from here and in 5 years have never been in here as we always go to the pub next door to us, well for a change we went here sunday with 7 friends. It was the best pub sunday dinner we have had for a long time. It arrived really quickly all freshly cooked, the cauliflower cheese was gorgeous, the roast potatoes were perfect and the beef was so nice. Lashings of gravy and they even offered us a top up of the gravy boats, which is a winner for me. Well done guys will be coming back, not just for the food but the bar as well

Wonderful service from the ladies at The Comet Inn. We were so tired from moving house, couldn't find anywhere to eat and popped in for a quick, restful drink. The ladies were so obliging. I drove up from Buckinghamshire, (to visit family). The lunch I had was worth the drive in itself. Good hearty home style food, expertly cooked and well presented. Great service by friendly staff. and very reasonably priced. A definite thumbs up recommendation from me.

Had a Sunday lunch at the comet a couple of weeks ago and you really couldn't beat it,all homemade food. Had a very welcoming barmaid with a smile (Cathy) keep up the good work girls. Oh and the omelettes are to die for honestly absolutely beautiful xx

My husband and l frequently use The Comet Inn for Sunday lunches, we have also taken our parent's on the odd occasion, and we all thoughly enjoy the wonderful meals. We feel that it is the best Sunday roast around, we are never dissapointed in the freshly cooked and good home cooking, and we have eaten out in many places . Today was probably our fifth Sunday lunch here over the past few months. We have tried Sunday roasts elsewhere in Hereford but nowhere compares with this place. From the ever friendly welcome from the barman to the friendly yet consummately professional restaurant service, and outstanding food. Plus clean and warm restaurant. Great value. A pity they're not open Christmas Day!

A return visit Saturday evening 22th Aug. Party of 5.Some times second time round is not so good but not here.We all had steaks with each one cooked as requested the meat was top quality no waste. Now the chips I believe are are all home made crispy outsides soft inside superb and generous portion size. Really friendly top class service will most certainly visit again.

On a long walk my partner and I came across this pub which had a board outside stating they offered a snack lunch menu. Although it was a Sunday there was no mention that this menu excluded Sundays. We were met by a very friendly barman but when we enquired about buying a snack/sandwich, a woman who I guess was the owner, appeared and said they couldn't provide a sandwich as they were fully booked for lunches and the kitchen was too busy. We weren't after anything elaborate - a lump of cheese and a hunk of bread would have been sufficient but obviously that was too much trouble. Being a Sunday with roasts on the go, couldn't we have been offered a slice of meat in a roll? In the end we sat outside with a cup of coffee and a bag of crisps before setting off again on our walk. I accept that pubs won't always provide anything except roasts on a Sunday lunchtime but this should be on the board outside. Being in the country, this pub has missed a trick, but the Three Horseshoes at Allensmore do go out of their way to provide snacks for walkers on a Sunday despite being a very popular restaurant/pub.

Visited about 2 weeks ago a warm rustic feel to the dinning area with first class service.The menu is fairly standard for inn food steaks etc.We both had the chicken curry which was top class for taste with plenty of chicken.The service was warm and friendly with attention to detail (sadly often lacking these days).Will we be returning YES.

Have been to the Comet on many occasions lately, as my sister lives near by.Even though I live 140 miles away. It's very quant and the locals are lovely to also speak. The food is fantastic , great value for money. I had a steak the last time I went the best in a very long time. The owners of the comet are so friendly , and obliging , They knew our Mum had passed away without saying anything they brought out sausage and chips for about 20/ 25 people free of charge all because they value their local villagers. I would give these ladies a gold star you don't find kindness like this very often anymore. Thank you so much Ladies.

A traditional country pub with a restaurant that serves top quality traditional food. The staff are very welcoming and happy to help make your visit perfect. Would strongly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

We visited the Comet last Sunday and although very busy (recomend booking), the staff were very friendly and made us feel right at home. Nothing was too much trouble for them, and the food was prepaired to perfection. A realy country treat that I would recomend to anyone visiting the area.

I was part of a group of 23 who had booked in on a Thursday night. We had a roast followed by dessert. The food was excellent - the beef was beautifully cooked, and the vegetables tasted as though they had been grown locally and picked that day. I chose tarte au citron, which tasted - surprise surprise - of fresh lemon! The food was excellent, the service was friendly and efficient ... I'd love to go back!

We visited The Comet Inn last Sunday, The whole place has had a face lift. The exterior has been freshened up with a gleaming coat of paint. It is when you step inside you find the extent of the work that has been carried out. The restaurant has been redecorated in modern colours which makes it feel so clean and freash. Throughout the pub there is new Solid Oak flooring which has brightened the whole place. New armchairs, stools and tables make the lounge bar a great place to relax after your meal.We had the Sunday Roast Lunch, we were offered a choice of Beef or Lamb which we one of each! To accompany the meats we were served, Roast potatoes, new Potatoes, honey glazed carrots, Kale, and a side dish of cauliflower cheese along with Yorkshire puddings and Stuffing balls! We were told this was all cooked by Vicky the Chef who is a partner in the business along with Cathy who is front of house who greeted us with a warm smile. No microwaved food served here it brought memories of home cooked Sunday lunches of times gone by. Well done! Can't wait until next time.

Last went to the Comet some years ago and as we were passing on Sunday decided to pop in for lunch.The décor has been modernised and is still in the process of having more done.As we entered a group of people were watching a football match on T.V and they were obviously Man U supporters as a goal was scored and the place erupted.Never mind(I'm a Spurs man !).On to the food,my wife had a Sunday roast and my daughter and I had fish and chips.All meals were good and the portions were a good size.The owners were very friendly as were the locals who were watching the match.All in all a very enjoyable visit.Would return.

Whilst visiting our grandfather we decided to eat out for Sunday lunch and came to this small country pub as it was local and seemed ok. We were seated in the restaurant conservatory and were attended to by a pleasant and friendly lady. I ordered the breaded brie wedges which were crispy and pleasant. All 3 of my companions opted for the sunday roast, beef with the usual trimmings, whilst I went for the steak and ale pie of the normal menu. The pie had a shortcrust pastry lid and inside there was plenty of steak and mushrooms with a nice gravy filling. This was served with garden peas and a large portion of very nice chips which were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The roast dinners were also good. The serving size was generous and the beef was nicely good with some very nicely done roast and mash potatoes. The roast also came with a creamy cauliflower cheese, yorkshire pudding, kale and carrots all of which were well cooked and pleasant tasting. We all opted for the apple and rhubarb crumble and custard to finish which was a pretty good pudding. The bill came to £67.30 including a pint and a half of Guinness, a half pint of Wychwood ale and 2 large glasses of shiraz which I felt was very good value. We enjoyed our lunch here and would be happy to return in the future.

Been to the pub on various occasions and have always had first class food and service, owners are always available and the pub is one of the most relaxing I've ever been in . We've been there as a couple and also with the grandchildren who are always more than welcome.

Six of us had a family meal here on the 2nd August, Good quality pub grub, tasty and hot and reasonably priced as pub grub goes, can recommend the Smokey Bacon, Chicken and Leek Pie, and all others in our party were more than satisfied with their meals. The pub itself has a nice atmosphere as well as a large outside garden, it will be even better if/when they have the entrance drive and car park properly surfaced or tarmac laid, the rough ground was my only disappointment. Would recommend and revisit if we are in the area again.

Warm and welcoming staff. We turned up unaware that lunch had finished but they were kind enough to cook us anything off the menu anyway. We sat outside which was great for the kids as there's lots of space to play. The food was amazing! Soooo yummy definately going to go back again!

We went here with my husband's grandfather who is a regular on a quiet Friday lunchtime. It's a 'proper' country pub, no frills decor that hasn't been done up to look all gastro and trendy. Granddad adores the place; it was our first time there.The service was great, very attentive and friendly, especially to granddad who they referred to by name because he goes that often! Everyone enjoyed their food, even me and I'm a fusspot. I went out into the garden for a while with the little one and it's lovely out there and the view from the pub is very pretty. My only real gripe is that the coffee is instant, and for me that is a no-no. It's a very sweet little pub and I hope we get to visit again soon.

We were staying at a local campsite (Brampton Golf Club) in our motorhome and wanted somewhere nice for a birthday meal and the Comet Inn was recommended by the golf club.It was a great recommendation as the food, service and friendliness left nothing to be desired. My steak (flocal meat from a local butcher, I was told) was the best that I have had for a very long time and my wife's fish was of the same standard. The Comet Inn is opening a camp site In a field at the rear of the Inn later this year which may be of interest to non-golfing caravaners.

had a lovely warm welcome, like as if we were locals.. the landlord made an effort to make sure everyone was looked after ....the food was that bit extra special even the carrots were in honey and seasoned, roasts well lets say i did say to the misses that they were best ive ever had and then added except yours of course ( quick retreat just in case ) ahem...meat well i had pork loin crackling smashing for once i can only say too much meat lol real meat as well not that packaged.. the cauli flower cheese was in its own dish and that was dripping in cheese you could scoop it out .. my misses had the beef and pleaded for me to eat some which of course i gladly did amazing bit of topside.. staff were attentive and would make any sauces to order etc and we sure left them a tip.. 10/10 from us at south wales wish it was closer although i dare say i will be back again ... just down from this place is a large boot sale on a sunday from steve and sarah

Amazingly brilliant country pub, one different from any other with great food and a very warm welcome from the staff, its very welcoming and people with a great sense of humour, definitely a pub to consider both if your a tourist or local eating with local produce. Log fire in the winter and outdoor entertainment in the summer for children with a well presented beer garden to relax with a stage for live entertainment. You honestly couldn't ask for more here, 5 stars all round.

I have been here several times with my family. The service is friendly and is typical of what I would expect in a classic English pub. The food is prepared and not just nuked in the microwave, expect a little wait while they actually cook. I will be going there again soon...

Visited the comet for a Sunday lunch, and was pleasantly surprised.I did not read any reviews before visiting here, so am very surprised at the previous reviewers negative comments.We found the service to be friendly and attentive, and the lunch was superb.We had a roast beef dinner, with all the trimmings.The beef was tasty and tender, plenty of veg and potatoes, in fact the portion was so big we could not manage a pudding.A special mention for the vegetables, we had curly kale and roast carrots with honey. A welcome change from plain vegetables that are the norm elsewhere.A Sunday lunch for two with four drinks cost £24. Very reasonable for the huge portion size.Needless to say we will be returning

It is with regret that I write this review, as I am a local person and I have been here lots of times over the years. My son and I had Sunday lunch here yesterday. There was no one else there apart from two men watching the football. There was no choice of food! Only roast beef which we ordered. There was no atmosphere here, and it was cold and dark! The lady behind the bar was very pleasant, but - when the food arrived I can only describe it as awful! My son said it was like the worst school dinner ever. The beef was over cooked and disgusting. The vegetables were ok - just, and the gravy was like water.We didn't complain just asked for the bill. Well I have never been charged 50p in a restaurant to use my debit card! Even if there were bank charges connected with this which I have never heard of before, would it hurt you as a restaurant to pay these as opposed to passing them onto the customer? Not good to do this! And I might say will never come here for Sunday lunch again. Which is a shame because it used to be "the" place to go for Sunday lunch - it was that good.

Great service and a lovely roast, scrumptious honey roast carrots, cabbage, cauliflower cheese and generous portions of meat and roasties.Not in a great position, on a junction, but with a lovely garden and a large conservatory.For a very reasonably priced good Sunday roast - hard to beat.

The Comet Inn has an attractive conservatory restaurant with rural views and peaceful dining. There is good home-cooked food of ample portions, which is always enjoyable. The service is friendly and attentive. We regularly enjoy an evening meal here.

It was a chilly day and unfortunately the pub was very cold. We were seated next to a Luke warm radiator which did not really have much impact. We were the only people eating at lunch time. The carrot and coriander soup was nice and went down well. The garlic mushrooms were tasty if a little overpriced at £4.25. Mains were big, hearty and homemade. Pies were good but the omelette a little rubbery. Gammon was tender and nicely cured. The homemade chips were a let down as they were tough, it seemed as though the fat had not been hot enough. Service was pleasant and prompt.

We visited on a Friday evening without booking, they soon found us a table in the conservatory restaraunt. In the bar were locals drinking the selection of real ales, local Ciders and wines. I ordered the Chicken leek and smoked bacon pie, with a shortcrust pastry, it was excellent. Home made and full to the lid, it came with homecut chips and vegatables, a friend had the rump steak which was cooked as requested medium, just a little pink, the came with, chips, mushrooms, grilled tomato and home made battered onion rings. Another friend she wanted a light meal ordered the ham and cheese omelette, being the Come inn this was not a light meal infact it was a 3 egg omelette withe chips and salad. I chose to have a dessert, light and lemony this was exactly what it was, a superb meal. Later we joined the locals in the bar who were playing pub games, dominoes, cards and darts. This was a great night and credit to the owners Vicky and Cathy who were superb hosts. We will be back again very soon.

Visited the pub for a family meal after being recommended by a friend who lives in the village. Everyone really enjoyed the food, the steaks and pies were lovely! The two ladies that run the pub were very welcoming and really made our meal extra special. We will definitely we visiting again!

We visited here a couple of times in 2010. A meeting place for locals and visitors alike, the Comet had a nice atmosphere with a good selection of beers and ciders. The menu was varied and the quality of the food was superb. Home cooked food of the highest standard, and her steak pie and chicken & leek pies were to die for - freshly cooked that day.
