This has happened to me and a friend, asked for a pint of Moretti and saw the bar man start pouring Amstel. When I corrected him he claimed I said Amstel and was adamant and rude so I had to buy it. This has happened to me twice on separate occasions, watch out

Went along to the Collingwood after hearing it had been reopened. First impressions was the warm welcome we received off Natalia when asked what would we like to drink. With a wide selections of cask and largers it was quiet hard to decide but Natalia offered us a yry of the real ales , and we opted for the HPA which was to say the least perfect. After we were seated we noticed food being taken to tables so we decided to take a look at the menu. It was steak night so we all opted for the steaks! Wow! They were cooked to perfection. This place is what a local pub should be liked. Traditional bar with good food and beer and great craic! When we were leaving Wayne the Landlord asked if all was okay, I can honestly say it was way better than okay. Well done such a delight to have a watering hole like this. Keep it up!

Good traditional pub with a fair choice of ale. However, food is hugely disappointing. Fish and chips special very small and batter burnt. Fish cakes heavy on potato and lacking in fish ingredients. Pub was busy but hardly anyone eating. Should have read the signs!

Lovely place to be fair. First time visit. Easy to get to, looks impressive from the outside, and some nice history to read about on the boards hanging on the wall outside (Naval history obviously with the name). Inside..... Almost like a Tardis. So much bigger inside than it looks from outside. Friendly clientele, beer is good and not too expensive. Some big screens to watch sport on, I actually went in there to watch football (bonus). Didn't go there to eat, so I couldn't answer those questions, however, I did see food being brought out to customers and it looked very good. All in all, I will be going back as i thoroughly enjoyed myself. Top Pub and I really hope the new management do well, they seem to deserve it.

First time to the Collingwood arms ... And didn't realise it had new ownership by the way we were treated .so welcoming straight away , and attentive . We sat by the lit fire which was so traditional and quant . We had a glass of wine and really enjoyed catching up ..we decided to order some food as the menu was delightful I chose the pizza which was cooked beautifully , rustic and not greasy . I then had the sticky toffee pudding with ice-cream which I must say was one of the best I've had , will definitely be back again * and we'll done to the new owners doing such a fab job and will only get better look forward to seeing your journey ☺️

Really enjoyed returning to the Colly after it's sudden and unfortunate closure. The selection of ales was actually better than before and the staff were excellent. Not a fan of TVs in pubs, but I can see the need in this day and age when there's a big game on.

The Pub has reopened after the recent bereavement of the last owner and is under new ownership. All previous reviews are therefore out of date and irrelevant. The change happened in the last couple of weeks. The New tenants are busy trying to get the place up and running again and are making a good job of it. I do not generally dine there but the London Pride beer on draft was excellent. Clearly more reviews will be needed to give a fairer overall view but so far I found the staff friendly and helpful and prices of drinks fairly normal for Newcastle.

Echoing a few reviews on here Old woman behind the bar needs lessons In customer experience/service Purchased a bottle of Pinot Grigio wine (bought from Aldi !!!). It tasted awful and warm. Took it back to complain to be told you chose it, we won’t exchange it you will just have to buy something else. No sorry …won’t be back . There are pubs in the area with much more pleasant staff to try. It’s a shame as wanted to support a local pub but will not return. An early evening/ end of the week drink should be a pleasure not an insult. Avoid.

As a new visitor be very wary of the car parking restrictions. We were caught out a week ago. There is a new system in place and a private car parking company have taken ownership of the parking spaces. These changes in the regulations are not clearly stated or noticeable when drinking outside (that it's necessary to leave your reg details at the bar). Very poor signage and no clear notification from the bar staff. We won't be visiting the pub again for this reason. We will also be appealing against the fine we were issued. An unfortunate implementation of a money making parking system. Very disappointing reflection on the bar ownership which has changed the character of what used to be a relaxing, friendly local bar.

UPDATE: I did not tell you it was a public car park I said I THoUGHT it was. You asked me to move and I did so stop making it sound like I was arguing about moving - I immediately said I would move! You were completely out of order in the way you spoke to me. I said I would move as I hadn’t realised where I was parked and you kept making an issue out of it. You asked me to move and when I did you walked in front of my car so of course I told you to get out of the way. You a rude and unpleasant person who caused an unpleasant situation for no reason at all. I was happily moving without issue but you clearly wanted to make an issue. Reading other reviews of your bar it is clear I’m not the only person who finds you rude and unpleasant. I stand by my review and I will not respond any further as clearly you are the kind of person who just like to argue and be unpleasant. I was sitting in my car outside the pub today doing a pick up and a woman came out asking me to move my car. I said yes I hadn’t realised I was parked where I shouldn’t be and would move. She was very rude and continued to complain at me. I told her there was no need for that as I was moving. I said I hadn’t realised it wasn’t a public car park to which she accused me of being stupid! There was absolutely no need for her horrible attitude and her rude and abusive manner towards me. I don’t even need to go inside this pub to know it’s not somewhere I would ever visit.

Left about five reviews in my life but the attitude of the old woman with the bad hand tattoo behind the bar was enough for me to comment on. Lovely little boozer and used to come often when I was a student. My experience echoes all the other bad reviews on here; that the old woman behind the bar is still as sour as ever and enough to put you off going ever again. Young smiley lad with the lovely long hair is a gem though. Nice enough pub just wish it was in better hands.

If you enjoy being treated like a customer rather than a complete inconvenience, you must avoid this place. For some reason, they really don't like visitors in this pub and are very rude on every single occasion we have been, as well as online. Furthermore, this place is not family friendly and the food is only served when the kitchen can be bothered. They stop serving food at 7:30PM apparently, so don't go here if you want dinner. It's safe to say we will not be returning, ever.

UPDATE: The embarrassing reply from the owner tells you everything you need to know about this place. Oh and just so anyone who is thinking about eating at this place, they close the kitchen whenever they want and get tetchy with you when you ask them. Go to one of the brilliant pubs on Osborne Road instead! Could be such a lovely pub, but sadly the attitude and rudeness of the staff and owners make it a far from enjoyable place to be. They seem to be proud of being rude, which is probably why it’s dead on a Saturday. We’ve been loads in the past and looked over this because of the surroundings, but this is the last time.

We parked in the car park, as I have done on rare occasions for the last 30 years. We had a couple of pints with friends. It was okay, kind of empty as ever. On leaving the landlady announced that our car was on camera and we'd not given her our registration plate with a view to not being fined by a parasitical parking company. We would be fined for having parked in the pub car park. When mentioning that this did not seem right the woman got very excited and pointed - stabbed with her finger - at a sign above the bar. I don't tend to look above the bar when entering a pub. I look for what's on tap and a smile & hello from the server. £60 fine. I'm never going back.

Interesting to read that others also had similar experiences of this pub not being very child friendly. We came on a Tuesday night for tacos and a quick drink with friends after work. Tacos provided by Good Times Tacos and we’re excellent. The pub itself is nice enough and drinks are ok but we were made to feel quite awkward for bringing our 4 month old baby. We haven’t been able to go out much since having our baby and we’re really looking forward to seeing our friends and we’re planning to stay at the pub until 19.30ish before heading home to put our baby to bed. When we arrived we were instantly told off quite abruptly for parking our stroller next to our table as this was apparently we’re the manager occasionally likes to walk through. We were then informed that we would only be allowed to stay until 7PM as the pub did not allow children after this time. At exactly 7PM when we were just finishing out drinks it was then loudly announced to the whole pub that it was now 7PM and we therefore needed to leave immediately. Just made the situation quite awkward for everyone really! Shame as the tacos are lovely but would avoid in future due to being quite unwelcoming to families and children in particular. Would recommend the Punch Bowl instead…they are very child friendly!
