Only a brief stop off after spending a day walking the Coledale Horseshoe but this seemed a lovely inn. Smart, warm ambience and well furnished, be very friendly staff, selection of local flavoured gins and an absolutely fabulous pint of Keswick Bitter. Also a great location - in the heart of the fells but also close to Keswick. Based on this experience would definitely return and would consider staying here too.

So, we've been to The Coledale Inn a few times now, but this time, it didn't seem quite as good. The room was ok, the bathroom was small, just a shower, which although good, was smallish! The problem we had, was the bar. All the tables were reserved every night for people eating, which I understand, but the should be a few tables set aside for people who want a drink or casual walk ins. Also, it was always noisy, something I haven't noticed before. Finally, we are dog lovers, but there were a lot in the bar eating area. At one point there was a couple with two rottweilers and a Jack Russell and one of the Rotties was almost under our table, and when I asked the woman who was with them if she could move them, she got quite grumpy!!! Would we go back? Not sure at this point.

Had been meaning to try the Coledale Inn for some time but was a disappointment. Arrived and given room in the annex and my heart dropped when was expecting room in the inn. Looked like a 1960's institutional building and the room was gloomy due to heavy nett curtains they had for up for privacy. Also finish a bit tacky and a bit of damp/mould in one corner of room. Food wasn't much better had the Steak and Ale Pie was a massive serving but taste lacking. Overall not somewhere I will be staying again.

We decided last minute to stay over for the Lakeland Festival Of Light and tried Mary Mount, where we had stayed before. No availability there and The Coledale is their sister hotel. This is a gem of a hotel in a stunning location. Dog friendly and you don't get charged for them if you book direct. Clean and spacious room (Room 24) Parking on site Excellent food on an evening and reasonably priced Friendly staff Braithwaite itself is a great village - 2 mile walk to Keswick, on a regular bus route, well stocked village shop and a very good cafe in town as well.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

Really quite disappointed with our experience here. Great location, but service and food quality really don't match up to the high prices you'll pay, especially for soft drinks. We had the veggie cannelloni and brocolli bake options and the kids had chicken nuggets and fish kids meals. The fact that the food arrived within minutes made our hearts sink. You just know it's all been pre-prepped when that's the case. Sure enough, while the kids' meals were okay (although why not chips instead of fries out of a plastic bag - come on guys!), the veggie meals left a lot to be desired. As is often the case, throwing a bunch of cheese on a meal seems to pass as quality vegetarian cooking. Cannelloni is stuffed with ricotta, but, on top of that they'd melted a whole bunch of cheddar. This made for a strange match. Alongside this was a dried-out salad which had clearly been made much earlier. The broccoli bake came with vegetables which consisted of new potatoes and, strangely, more broccoli. Do they not have another vegetable to accompany the meal? For £17.95 each, these veggie mains were completely lacklustre and terrible value for money. Service-wise, you have to go to the bar to order. Again, this seemed like a cost-cutting measure so they don't have to have as many staff. But this also meant that absolutely no one came to ask us if the meals were ok or if we wanted refills for our drinks. Even the guy who came to clear plates didn't ask us how the meal was. Service was thus virtually non-existent. Really expected more and would definitely not choose the Coledale Inn for a birthday lunch again.

So annoyed we didn't discover this place earlier during our stay at Braithwaite. Saw an advert for their Pie Week so booked a table. So glad we did. Everything was brilliant. The staff were friendly and very efficient. Between us we tried the Steak & Ale pie, the Lamb & Mint pie and the Moroccan Lamb pie. All were excellent and accompanied by yummy chips and veg. The portions are very generous so didn't get to try any desserts. Having tried other eating places in the village, I would highly recommend the Coledale.

This place is quietly tucked away at the back of Braithwaite a couple of miles from the crowds of Keswick. The team that works here are so welcoming and genuinely friendly - you feel immediately at home. The bar, breakfast room and dining room are comfortable and spacious - and in winter, the log fires are stoked all day. The dinner menu is simple, unpretentious and varied enough to suit all tastes. Delicious and fresh comfort food? I don't know, but just the sort of food your body craves after a day hiking in the fresh air. I've stayed a couple of times and the rooms are great: crisp bed linen, plenty of storage to put your stuff away, and piping hot showers. Again just what you need, and nothing that you don't - hence their pricing which is very reasonable. I think when you leave and settle your bill, you will think you've got away with a bargain.

The food is incredible. There is a great choice thanks to a varied menu plus daily specials plus a vegetarian/vegan specials board. The food was delicious, served hot, good vegetables and large portions. We ate in the garden, the bar (there are 2) and the dining room - all top-notch. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Nice looking hotel in lovely village conveniently located after walk in the area. Super setting. Strong hotel vibe [we went for family evening meal only] in nice dining room with plenty of space. Clean and tidy. Food was above average although a little on the basic side if tasty. Something of a 80s vibe to presentation. Service OK but a little brusque. Waiter unable to explain ale range so took a walk to the bar myself to see. 3 local beers onnhand pump as it turned out. Food arrived on time but had to ask twice for condiments. Bill arrived incorrect and waiter grunted that I should take it up with the barman where I should pay. Had sense my correction at the bar wasn't welcome [tried to charge for adult rather than child meal. Corrected without a scene. Overall 3.5 star experience for us. Probably would return for a beer only.

We dropped in for lunch and although it was a sunny day in August had no issues getting seated or served. Good choice on the menu, service was good, food was great. The views from the garden are great looking over Braithwaite towards Blencathra.

What a lovely restaurant with fabulous food and great staff. We were staying close by and had seen great reviews about the restaurant so we had to try it….not just once but two nights in a row it was that good. On the first night my husband had lamb shoulder which was cooked to perfection and fell off the bone, I had salmon and prawns which were equally as good. The second night it was seafood platter for my husband and sweet and sour chicken for me. Both meals were very good and it was great to have so much to choose from. It was a pleasant change to be able to choose the accompaniment to the meals rather than just chips with salad or veg. The staff were very attentive and polite. All in all it was a great experience and would definitely recommend this restaurant.

The restaurant is part of Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa. The breakfast, is poor quality ingredients which are largely tasteless. The milk jug was dirty, the staff seemed miserable (expect for two chaps who were welcoming and happy). All in all, very poor and I won’t be back.
