This place is very much a locals place. Open mike night on when we visited. Not many customers Very old run down and drab. Manager was friendly enough to start but then when we had bought a drink was only interested in his locals. Drinks expensive for the type of place. Ok for one drink but no atmosphere. Wouldn’t visit again

Not sure anything has changed in here for many a year, but that’s not necessarily a terrible thing. The welcome is friendly and the drinks cheap, complemented by a relaxed atmosphere and homely decor. It’s not the place you’d go for a special occasion, equally it’s somewhere you can just pop out to for a drink and a chat without any formality; sometimes, that’s just all you want.

Saturday evening 26th of August and we were going to have a drink here. We walked up the steps into the bar area, there was no one in there, even behind the bar was empty. There was a room off behind the bar and we did see some people sitting there, it was all a bit dated and old fashioned. There was no character or atmosphere in the place, which was disappointing as it looks full of promise from the outside, so we turned around and walked out.

Quiet but great food. Went for on a Sunday evening as staying in Colyton and needed somewhere to eat. Food was traditional carvery with choice of three meats and a good selection of vegetables. All fresh and good quality. Friendly staff who care about what they are doing. Shame it was so quiet. Recommend.

Had Sunday lunch here after taking the kids on the Seaton Tram. Right in the centre of town, easily accessible and great value. The quality of the food was very good and for a family of five was value for money. It's always a good sign when the place is packed with returning locals!!will definitely be back when we're in the area again, and have no hesitation in recommending.

Teníamos un asador muy agradable aquí hoy. 3 Carnes y muchos vegetales.

A really friendly pub, with excellent, quick service and nice food. There was lots of choice at the carvery & plenty of puddings to choose from too. But I'd go back again just for the service alone.

My sister and brother in law recently had their wedding reception and evening do at The Colcombe Castle. We were all made to feel very welcome by the landlord and landlady. The food provided for the wedding reception and evening buffet was excellent. I would highly recommend The Colcombe Castle as a venue for either a special family occasion or Sunday lunch!

The Sunday carvery really hit the spot after a long morning walk and enjoyed by all, sorry to say no room for desert. We returned Sunday evening for the free cinema night and had a great time. I would highly recommend it and getting there early to manoeuvre the sofas into the perfect spot

I visited this lovely, traditional pub with my family. The carvery was great, with the meats and veg cooked perfectly, the atmosphere was very good with lots of other families enjoying their lunches. Tom, the landlord was most pleasant and very friendly. We later returned in the evening to enjoy some drinks and the live music. I would highly recommend anyone in the area to visit.

Came here for a traditional Sunday lunch and from the noticeboard £8.95 seemed like a reasonable price. However, this isn't very reasonable when nothing is fresh! All frozen or tinned produce. The roast potatoes weren't even homemade and were from a packet and very hard indeed. I think they must be getting a great profit because I could've got the whole carvary stand for £10 at Iceland, so for £8.95 per plate they must be raking it in.The only plus side was the landlord was friendly and I would want this place to do well, so please consider for the price making it all from scratch. Nobody comes for a Sunday lunch out and expects worse than they could get from a ready meal! With your friendliness you deserve to do well, so just peel some actual carrots, make your own roasties and don't smother the new potatoes in butter. Fresh is best, always.

We've lived in Colyton for a couple of years so have used all establishments over this period. We use the Colcombe on a regular basis and find the landlord Tom to be very friendly and amiable we enjoy the banter which he creates. They recently started sunday carvery which I'm sure will be a great hit all cooked by Michelle the landlady.

My wife and I have various food allergies, so it was so good to be told that they can adapt the meals to meet our needs. And they did, GF, veg instead of potatoes, you name it, it was done. The food itself was excellent, all four of us had brilliant meals. Well worth a visit

We enjoyed our night at this well run, clean and friendly hotel. The three course evening meal was freshly prepared and delicious. Our room was spotless and well presented. We both are surprised this is only a two star rated hotel, as our experience exceeded many four stars we’ve stayed in. Our breakfast was again delicious. The staff are all attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. It has ample parking and a beautiful rear garden with seating. If we are in the region again, we would wholeheartedly head for The Tumbling Weir, Thank~you

Great venue for lunch, always busy, good food at reasonable prices. Until today, prices have risen, the place was half empty, the food still good but not exceptional so why the price hike? My breaded plaice with chips, peas and tartare sauce was £16.99! It was nice enough, not outstanding and available elsewhere in Sidmouth for a lot less. If they want more profit and less customers I think this approach will work, we will think twice before returning as there are many other places to eat locally that offer better value for similar food.
