The Coffee House in Worthing

Dreadful lunch. Cappuccino, hardly any froth on top and slopped all over the cup and saucer. Sandwich was so small for a lat of money. Will not be going to this cafe ever again.

Very grumpy waitress, poached eggs were rock hard, no runny yoke £8.25 for a cup of tea (not a pot) and 2 poached eggs on toast

So lovely, it’s my go to vegan lunch!!! They really do have everything for vegans, there is no missing out. Always good food, amazing vegan cheese, lovely vegan cakes and milkshakes. My daughter chose it for her birthday.

Visited a few days ago and was met with miserable faces, where have the friendly welcoming staff who care about how you feel gone? The standard of coffee was good and my toastie was lovely albeit I did have to wait over 15 minutes for both my drink and food. When I was being served there was no smile or friendly face, instead a lady (who I can only presume is the manager by the way she was speaking to the staff) decided to carry on her shouting conversation with a young member of staff in the kitchen about how he wasn’t good enough at his job and she’d find someone better. I found myself sitting with my tray feeling an awful pain in my heart for this young lad, no-one should deal with that. I should add that the tables were mucky, cakes/pastries uncovered and tongs being mixed between GF/nuts/savoury products. I stood in the queue for about 10/15 minutes and witnessed a very strange dynamic. Customers are interrupted when ordering and constantly called “darling” at the end of everything said, which is incredibly condescending and I know the elderly couple on front of me didn’t like it either, given that I knew what I wanted to eat she still felt the need to interrupt me to ask “white or seeded bread darling” when I’d already stated what bread when I gave my original order. Seems very unprofessional like there’s no listening and just working off a script. The staff all seem to be very young and unprofessional. I wonder why they can’t get or keep the staff, I hope there are changes soon because the reputation has consistently gone downhill since the beginning of the year.

I'm surprised to see several recent bad reviews as I went here yesterday with my wife for some food and found the staff to be very friendly, which is the opposite of what other customers are saying. The only problem was that the food we wanted (jacket potatoes) were not ready and we'd have to wait half an hour. We just chose something else. I had never been before but will definitely visit again as the food was lovely. Sauasage and onion baguette for me and a toast for my wife. The place was clean and tidy and when we'd finished, a young man came over to clear up quite quickly. I definitely recommend this case and I will be returning myself.

Totally agree with you Stacey, it's nothing like it used to be. Very poor management. Shall not be going there again, not the clean and friendly cafe like when the previous owner was there

Horrible experience!!! Dirty, rude and just an enjoyable experience. I was very disappointed ever since the new owners have taken over, they have created a very unhappy environment for the staff and customers to be in. I have been coming in for years with my family members. All the new staff are useless with unhappy faces, no one wants to help with any issues or clearly be there. You get a constant horrible wafting smell of cheap burgers when eating the overpriced greasy food, where the burger staff are leaning and constantly starring in at the shop (not nice when you are siting up at the bar trying to eat). I will not be coming back at all, such a shame how a business can go down hill so quickly with new careless owners. DO NOT BOTHER GOING !!

I am so so disappointed in this place recently, its really gone down hill since the new management came in, the original staff were always so welcoming and it always felt like a safe place and a cosy place, however within the last month the original staff have been dropping off one by one, there is only one lovely girl who still works there but she only have 2 weeks left and I can tell you now I will not be returning after she is gone. the new staff are so miserable and not welcoming what so ever they seem like they don't care about anything, and i understand hospitality is hard as I work in the industry but putting a smile on your face once in awhile isn't hard. I really really miss the old owner he really knew how to connect to the customers and staff. I feel so bad for the old owner as he worked so hard to make this place the best it could be and its so sad to see it all crumble down in the matter of months with the new owners. Sorry for leaving a not so good review but i think people need to know not to waste their time coming to this place.

I’m not usually one to write reviews but I’m afraid to say this is no longer my favourite place to enjoy a coffee and a lite bite. It used to be such a friendly place to sit and watch the world go by with my elderly mother. It appears all of the original staff are no longer there? Where have they all gone? I must say the new faces aren’t as welcoming and friendly as previous which is such a great shame as it always used to brighten my day for my weekly trip to the town centre.

I have been coming here for coffee and food many many years.Always lovely friendly staff, managment and a great atmosphere. Recently the place has gone down hill and no one seems to care. Where did all the staff go? Its so sad to see how unfriendly and unkempt it is now. Its the end of an era for me as I will not return.

Visited the coffee house for a quick lunch. Great, prompt service. I had the mango, raspberry and yoghurt smoothie which was delicious. I also had the coronation chicken on granary. Great value, fresh bread and the chef really knows how to make a classic coronation sandwich filling! Will definitely be back.

A great place to meet up with family or friends for coffee and a bite. The food is great and the coffee perfect. Friendly staff and perfectly located if you're heading to the shops.

Been a free times now great for a toasted sandwich / panini and coffee sit at the window sits and great spot to watch the world go by. Always friendly prompt service as well.

Amazing café right in the centre of Worthing. Great to watch the world go by whilst enjoying a fabulous coffee and food. Staff are so friendly, even when under pressure. I wish some people would give the staff more credit than they get. We don’t even have to ask for our drinks anymore as all the staff know what we have before we even get to the till. Food is fresh and varied, and the atmosphere is always relaxing. Very dog friendly and it’s lovely to see the staff interact with everyone. Little gem of a café.

Incredibly disappointed by the service we received yesterday, my friend who knows the owner and his wife and myself came in for some lunch, firstly when we were being served we kept being spoken over by the older lady on the till who was speaking to the lady on the coffee machine whilst we were ordering. We ordered a pesto, sun dried tomatoe and mozzarella panini, a jacket potato and three drinks. We went and sat down and within a short time another (very polite younger girl) explained they had no sun dried tomatoes so would normal ones be okay, I'm a store manager of a coffee shop myself and my friend works in an established hospitality food restaurant in town so of course we said yes, that wasn't a problem with no issues at all. Our food then came and my friend was still waiting on her smoothie she had asked for and she also had noticed no pesto was in her panini. We waited for someone to come over to check all was okay, no one did so we took the plate to the counter and explained no pesto and that we were waiting on a mango smoothie. Again, the young girl was very polite and expressed she would sort it and it would just be a moment. About 5minutes later the food comes back with the pesto on the side and the server said very abruptly "is it alright like this otherwise we will have to make a whole new one" again, we agreed and said it was not a problem. We then finished our food, still no smoothie and then the older dark haired server came over and said "you never ordered that one, we don't even have it in stock so what other one do you want" my friend asked which ones were available and the lady didn't even know and had to keep going back to the board to clarify. Then another short while after she came back with my friends replacement which she slammed down on the table and said "pay for that when your finished" we felt so incredibly uncomfortable by the situation and honestly had our afternoon ruined. I feel more robbed that I gave any money to the experience at all. We then went up and simply asked for the receipt as we did ask for the smoothie twice, the lady again, rudely sighed and said she didn't know how to do it so got another younger lady to check for her, she checked and yes, we hadn't been charged however, we repeated back the order twice, had pretty bad service from this one lady and when she insisted we hadn't been charged, she couldn't possibly of checked as she didn't even know how to. I feel sorry for the owners as if they were aware of the service that was being given I'm sure they wouldn't be happy themselves as they are loosing trade based on employees simply not caring. We were so friendly and polite, also.. Paying customers.. So we would at least expect the same kindness and respect in return.

Went here for lunch out of the blue food is excellent and staff are friendly and cafe has spaced the tables out well due to covid regulation and staff wear masks. Worth booking a table if you go as they get busy

We had lunch here on a hot Monday lunchtime and it was AMAZING!! Had chicken salad which was tasty and husband had chicken baguette and the bread was freshly baked. Daughter had a ham wrap made exactly to her liking. Coffee and milkshakes top quality. So so good we are going back tomorrow. Absolutely lovely staff and food. Well done and thank you

So glad the Coffee House is open. Coffee - great, sandwiches fantastic, always served with a side salad. You can sit outside or upstairs and watch the world go by. Try the Vanilla frappe !

Have visited this cafe on many occasions and would thoroughly recommend it for a quick snack or a filling lunch - sandwiches , jacket potato , salads etc. Staff always friendly and remember your order after a few visits. Reward card for free coffees too plus newspapers are often available

I’ve worked in Worthing for 18 years and never been in this place. I always walk past but have never gone in because it looks too small & I never wanted to sit outside. Well my friend took me here and I found there was a large seating area upstairs with great people watching windows across the front. There is a ‘more seating upstairs’ sign above the counter, but you can’t see it from outside! Would definitely recommend a sign outside.The jacket potato was amazing too, baked not microwaved and large; the side salad was amazing...thanks guys, definitely making this a regular place.

Always go here for lunch when in town. Coffee is reliable and decent. Lunch service is fast and the food always fresh and tasty, especially the jackets. A friendly family atmosphere and usually several regular customers.

I've been here a few times with friends, and the staff are always really friendly. They do a tasty gluten free Victoria sponge every now and then, and a range of other gluten free treats.Refills of tea and coffee are only £1, which is nice. I've had a refill a couple of times now.The only thing is it's quite small downstairs so can be a squeeze - I have a small baby so bringing her in the buggy is a bad idea. The staff were really accommodating of the buggy when I did bring it.Their usual patrons also seem to be a very friendly bunch, which says a lot I think.

I ate here with a friend and we are both vegetarians. I was a little surprised that the vegetarian breakfast didn’t offer a substitute for the meat that was in the traditional breakfast yet was less than £1 cheaper. Pretty poor vegetarian choices considering the vast array of vegetarian options that are available in 2018 to the creative thinkers.

Not clear if table service offered so ordered at the counter. Salad mostly lettuce, served in a bowl, which made cutting up the bacon difficult. Strangely, the chicken was already cut. The balsamic salad dressing came in a sticky, rather old looking bottle and was so thick it wouldn't poor. Cheap enough but I wouldn't go again

I was in Worthing on a training day course and as this cafe is local to whare the place was I thought I'd have a quick sandwich or something, to be honest I don't usually go to this cafe, I usually go to Maldooms, Orchards cafe or St Paul's but they are not near enough.

Disgusting drinks, overpriced food, our oder was wrong twice and awful service. would not recommend !!

If we are in town we tend to go to the coffee house as it’s central and a small local business, Costa’s, Nero etc don’t offer the same when it comes to a fresh well made sandwich or jacket spud. Had a nice coffee today and sandwich, with salad garnish, very tasty & filling. Will keep coming.

Nice cafe, generous food portions and reasonably priced. i often pop in there for lunch when working n the town centre.

Stopped here for an early breakfast. Staff are friendly and the place is very clean. I like the fact that along side a big breakfast they have options such as toast and egg. I had a lovely breakfast everything fresh and hot when it arrived. Nice little cafe.

I've been to the café several times, usually in early morning. I've only had drinks but they also do meals. Staff are friendly and you can take your time, reading papers provided. It is convenient for shops and offices in the centre of town.

I often come to the coffee shop, all the staff are very friendly and approachable. Nothing is ever too much bother. They make the best milkshake you've ever tried too! Highly recommend.

Staff can't be bothered, serving the customer is too much effort and an inconvenience. Couldn't be bothered to clean the dirty table when we sat down, she ignored us and just "plonked" our food on the table and walked off. The staff talked loudly in front of the customers about how soon they could stop serving food and close - even though it was only just after 2pm. My vegetarian breakfast was contaminated with meat and when I went downstairs with my plate to speak to the waitress about it, who was serving another customer, she alerted the other member of staff as soon as she saw me by hollering at the top of her voice "come here it's about food". Clearly hygiene and cross contamination is an issue, but there was no customer service, they didn't care about my experience and both me and my husband left the shop without finishing our food and drinks. It spoiled our afternoon of treating ourselves to lunch and we were disatisfied by the whole experience. Used to be my first choice of coffee shop in Worthing town centre, but I won't be going there again.

I have eaten here many times at lunchtime and never had a bad meal. The staff are friendly, the food is served quick and it is a very clean environment.

Great coffee and lovely menu for lunch. Sitting upstairs by the window is lovely but the downside of being such a popular place is sometimes you can't choose where to sit!

We've walked past this little place loads of times but we've never been in (I thought it was just a coffee place). My wife suggested we visited today and I am so pleased we did!

Popped to Worthing today & visited this cafe again.

Came here for a coffee and a quick bite to eat. The food quality was good and not too pricey compared to other coffee shops. The older lady working behind the till and who served our food could have been more friendly with us or at least crack a smile.

First time here. Ordered a take away large caffe mocha, had to wait half an hour before drinking it due to the extremely hot temperature of it... unacceptably and dangerously scalding hot coffee, made by amateurs. Will not go here again.

Absolutely love The Coffee House. Best coffee and service in town, the staff are fantastic and friendly. Food is always good too, nice seating area upstairs. Highly recommend whether you chose to eat in or take away!

Enjoying the sun in Worthing and needing a break away from the seaside, I ventured to the city centre and came across a good looking coffee spot. A good selection of cakes, efficient, professional service, clean place. Large upstairs room with tables.

We popped in for a quick lunch, kids menu was £2.50 which when it came consisted of a half sandwich made from one slice of bread and nothing else. Around a £20 lunch for three was wholly disappointing!

I eat here regularly. It's marketed as a coffee shop but I come for the food which is very good, great portion sizes and low price.

A very nice breakfast. Saussage quality was ok.,well above average.The bacon was tasty. Bread was very nice granary. Also the tea was nice taste. Extreamy friendly staff.

The coffee house is just my sort of place I've always managed to get a seat, some are better than others but when you need a coffee who cares, the coffee is good the toasted sandwiches are well presented which for me is important seating upstairs a bit bland but good sized tables and mostly clean again important service is smart no idol chat amongst the staff, service comes first so for the first time for me a good review

A really nice cafe with loads of hidden seating upstairs, reasonable price and cheap refills on coffee hot chocolate etc. A really nice menu with varying specials, lovely staff and right in the town centre. I definitely recommend popping in if you're out and about, I recommend the BBQ Panini!

Enjoyed a great cup of capuccino here, sat there for some time drinking coffee, talking and people watching. Would certainly go back again.

I visited this coffee shop and was very disappointed with the slow service,food and drink. I waited 10 mins to be served eventhough there was only one person in front of me being served by three people behind the counter. I ordered a milk shake which I could not drink, it was like angel delight...nothing fresh or creamy about it. The two cakes I ordered were nothing special, both very artificial tasting and the cup of tea was half full. Wont be visiting here again.

Whenever I'm in Worthing I will always choose to head to the Coffee House. With it's superb atmosphere great food and excellent coffee. Whether you need a hearty meal like a full English or just a decent brew then it's well recommended by me. The staff are very friendly and you will get excellent service. Following it's recent refurbishment it's definitely a good choice as the best cafe in Worthing.

I always look forward to going to Worthing especially if there is a pit-stop at this lovely café" The Coffee House" Really friendly staff and very attentive at clearing away so that you can sit down straightaway. Plenty of outside seating to enjoy the Worthing sunshine!

Tucked away on a corner and small, but the food is much better than many prominent cafes around, and they use far superior supplies than many more expensive cafes (eg Real Patisserie bakery), yet the prices here aren't a rip-off -- unlike a few other places we could mention -- and the service is faster and friendlier than many dearer cafes in town. Worth a visit - - or two.

I use this cafe quite a lot,I always find the staff friendly and polite..The food is always fresh and very good value for money,with lots of choice..I have tried other cafes in the area but will remain using this one.

I always choose to have a coffee here rather than at one of the chains of coffee shops ... Coffee is nicer and better value and it's a local business.

Tiny cosy cafe which opens early so gets a regular visit and gets busy quick with people on way to work.

Home made coleslaw served with all sandwiches/ panini/ jacket spuds, delicious. Good amout of filling and great selection, always fresh and nicely presented.
