Came here for our last meal out before heading home from our Holiday and saw they do a roast. Went in and was shown to the table and it seemed to be very busy but after being seated to our table that's when it starting to go down hill. 1. Did not get told that there was a big back log on food service and advised the kitchen will be closed at 2pm (was not bothered as it is a coffee place) 2. Ordered 2 Sunday roast dinners and a sausage mash and peas, while we were waiting for the meals to be done there were a few other customers that had placed orders or were waiting to be served but the timing was very long for the food and a few of there customers left and were refunded as the timing was nearly over an hour from what I over heard during there conversation. 3. I was getting impatient as it took nearly an hour for our meal to come and the sausage mash and peas were a decent portion but the roast dinners were mediocre at best as all you will get is 2-3 small to medium slices of turkey 2 roast potatoes and half of new potato (seriously don't know why I cancelled going to the carvery at the nearest Green Kings) and the veg, wow you only get a small dish of veg to share between 2 people and each person ended up with a small flowret of broccoli a small handful of carrots and some cabbage. 4. The server mentioned due to the delay the drinks were on the house due to the waiting times, when I got to the till to pay the bill I have asked for a receipt (only got handed the card receipt and not the full receipt and checked when I got back to the accommodation and it came to over £30 quid and the roast dinner was a tenner each and the other meal 8.95 which should be 28.95 not over 30 quid. I was planning to have breakfast there before setting off on a 4 hour trip back home but after today I looked around and found there is a Toby carvery on the way home (worked out cheaper to have breakfast there and a coffee together, and you can get instantly served and do not have to wait for nearly an hour for food). It seemed a nice place to have lunch there I just reckon they are really short staffed as there was one server there doing what they can to help but was being pulled from post to pillow dealing with their upset customers and some of them were very challenging (the server has really good patience and hope all goes well for them).

Only popped in for a quick coffee, to be met by a foreign speaking woman Immediately asking what we wanted, well without seating us and letting us look at the menu how do we know what we wanted??? Opted for just coffee which was absolutely disgusting!! Way too strong and the temperature of a small star!!! They sat us by the window on such a hot day, that we just had to move tables. Awful service....dreadful coffee.

Me and my partner Had a couple of fryed breakfast there this morning. Great friendly service. Lovely fryup and coffee at a reasonable price. Well worth a visit.

Ordered 2 cream teas forgot my tea had to go up and ask ,tea was weak had to go up again to counter to ask for another T bag .

We really valued the good, thoughtful service and the fact that even when full, we could still hear each other well. They might have planned the accoustics well, I don't know. In some cafes, so often the coffee making is so noisy, with bashing out the old coffee ground etc. and if there is background music too...... The staff were helpful and attentive and assisted with my dietary oddities!!!! We'll definitely be back to try the rest of the menu. Thanks

Just not a great place for a coffee. Very tired inside, bright lighting which gave me a headache, dull deco and the staff are really miserable. Took 15 mins to be served, coffee was horrible and overall won’t be going back.

When entering, we were not welcomed. In fact, we were left to stand for a while until other people in the cafe noticed us and said hello. All the tables were reserved at variousvtines across the coming day. Given that it was 9am, and only one other table was occupied and all other tables were reserved from 10.30 am, we were told they were busy!!! Busy doing nothing. We managed to convince the waiter that we would be gone by 9.45 so a table was offered. Breakfast ordered, coffee on its way, we settled in and watched and waited. The staff are shambolic. No urgency in their attitude to incoming customers. No welcome. No.smiles. He was more interested in one chap who appeared and jumped the coffee order queue, where football was discussed. She was more interested in filling up her personal water bottle rather than incoming customers or serving. I actually did not see her engage with any customer. My breakfast arrived. No cutlery. Sauce in a packet. Microwaved (?) bacon and poor sausage. Not a good breakfast. Coffee was not very strong or tasty, but it was at least hot. In all an awfully poor quality of both food and staff.

Ordered pancakes, I was hoping for a freshly made American pancakes. Sadly it was a ready made one. They just warmed it up. It was very chewy. My husband ordered eggs with ham and chips. The ham was cold, never seen the frying pan. You better off with a packet of ham and pancakes from any supermarket.

Had a large breakfast, great food and quick service. Good value as well. Little gem of a place!!

Disappointing! Asked how many needed seating and we said two people. Man said he’d check tables and walked off, I then saw him stood at top of cafe waving us over. We were seated at a low down coffee table and sofa as he said ‘all the other tables needed cleaning?’. There was no menu and we were sat around a corner out of sight from main counter area. We were due to eat so this was far from ideal but didn’t want to make a fuss . After about ten mins we flagged down a very irritated, surly female and she cleared a table for us. It then took about another twenty minutes before our food arrived and we were contemplating settling up and cancelling the order. However, the food came and I had exactly 7 mins to eat it before my parking was up. The food was basic and of low portion, the bacon was over-cooked and rock hard & the rest was borderline satisfactory. Atmosphere tense and not particularly friendly. It could be so much more but the basics need working on.

Visited lunchtime today. We had a selection of lovely cake and took away some scummy sausage rolls. The two gentlemen running the cafe were friendly, polite and efficient. Would recommend it.

At £8.95 I wasn't expecting much. Probably frozen veg and potatoes and reformed meat so I was pleasantly surprised to get lovely hand carved slabs of turkey, a good selection of fresh vegetables and beautifully fluffy roast potatoes all served by a very friendly young man. Decent portion too. For the price it's excellent, our local pub is a bit better for sure but charges double the price. Would definitely go back.

The best ever sausage rolls Imo

Popped in for a small breakfast and a coffee with the hubby. The 1st table offered was a seat at a coffee table. That's not gonna work I said, smiling. A woman went and cleaned off one of the tables that had dirty dishes on, and we sat. Breakfast arrived wrong... Was given two sausages and no egg, when I ordered two eggs and no sausage! Was dealt with straight away, but with no real emotion of being sorry/apologetic. I ate everything except the undercooked, covered in grease, PURPLE bacon! And then they tried to charge me for an extra sausage! Will not be returning due to the length of time to be served (others had walked out due to this, whilst we were there), due to there being no happy faces, no smiles, no eye contact, no feel good vibes at all.

Stopped here for lunch after visiting the model village, service was great & the food was freshly cooked & absolutely delicious. Spoilt for choice with the menu!

We were looking for somewhere to have some lunch (on a Sunday before we went to the model village) with our two young children and not much seemed to be open. Saw this place and thought we'd give it a go. Food was hot and tasty and very reasonably priced. I would definitely be happy to eat here again when we visit Bygones.

It’s always the case that when a cafe or restaurant rely too heavily on the microwave the results are not going to be good! For this cafe it is such a shame as they have some great ideas offering sausage role and pies which look great and they could do really well as the price was also great, but no matter how good the price if the food is not cooked with a bit of care then you end up with mushy pale mushrooms and tomatoes that look as if they have not seen a frying pan at all.

Coffee is not that great. I dont know if its the time but went there around lunch the atmosphere is a lil niche.

Ignored, another customer had to point out that we were there before him .. even though she had seated us a while before. Then charged £5.25 for a kids ham and cheese toastie that was literally one piece of bread ( and no ham they had ran out ) With Slimy brown lettuce in the salad And I had a soup that tasted of nothing The only good part was the bread that came with the soup ( which I had to give my little girl as she was still very hungry ) Will not be returning

It turned out to be the friendliest and nicest food around. The prices are also very good, but don't tell them that. I'll be back.

Great friendly, welcoming staff members. They allow you to ring up and book tables. The menu has a good range of hot and cold food which is always cooked and baked well. Have a good range of sweet treats. A lot and most home made. A good range of hot and cold drinks. Dog friendly. And good accessibility with being wheelchair friendly. Good location in high street.

Went with husband for lunch for a special occasion and left halfway through our meal today. The baguette tasted like it was old or defrosted. Soup was bland and watery AND microwaved! it was supposed to be tomato and basil but i couldnt taste the basil and in general it tasted like Tomato pasatta with tons of water in it. I left after 3 spoonfuls and some of the baguette as it was just so disappointing. Really did ruin the day for us as we dont get out much, £17 and ended up going to the shop opposite for a snack. Also called the Coffee house but the coffee tasted terrible, like dishwater with a coffee flavouring. Was muddy water and had to use 8 sugars just to try disguise the taste. The staff seemed nice but i was so disappointed i just wanted to get out of there.

we have regularly visited your coffee establishment over many years and have enjoyed the experience - yesterday however, one of your waitresses curtly and rudely asked my friend to put her dog on the floor - she was holding the tiny thing in her arms, as he is nervous - this she did - though it was never been a problem before We noticed - just across one of the other tables, a parent was allowing her young kid to climb all over the table! most unhygienic and not fair or acceptable, nothing was even said - it doesnt matter if cleaned after, as you do - it should not be happening be assured we will not venture into your establishment again - where there are totally duel standards and unfairness and rudeness CB

Love this place been a couple of times now and food is great and quite large servings.

A very lovely welcome on a chilly Sunday afternoon for a much needed coffee. Lovely coffee and all facilities spotlessly clean. Thank you I'll definitely return.

Very busy place. Lovely vegetarian breakfast but sachets of tomatoe ketchup opposed to a bottle which seems odd for such a busy place and a cafe.

Service was poor. Slow to clear tables. Expensive for what was presented. Airy clean place though. Could do a lot better.

Tasty pasty, well warmed. Ugly ceiling, building an ex office? Friendly staff! Great service. Called the coffee house but... Mediocre coffee, kinda 'muddy' with bitter finish, not bad but honestly when McCafé is better then I wouldn't boast. Delicious salad, light tasty drizzle of vinigrette and fresh leaves. I would recommend, food and service great, but maybe try the tea instead of the coffee. Good value, fair prices.

The food here is excellent, the staff are lovely and very caring, I used to come here with a lady with dementia and they always took time with her. They get a bonus point for being the only cafe in the precinct that opens on a Sunday.

Stopped here on way through. Good menu, the food itself was perfectly fine and well priced, just a bit of a let down with the front of house staff member (older female, didn't catch name). Seemed very put out by everything and pulling faces when people asked questions. Got my order wrong, which was only noticed when it arrived. Not an issue, mentioned to the lady who brought it out who immediately went to put it right, only to be told by this lady 'they didnt order that!' in an exasperated way. Quick look at the ticket shows we did. Everything was put right and no qualms whatsoever with anything other than this attitude issue on the day. Maybe it was just a bad day.

Fantastic breakfast at a great price

Excellent value breakfast, well cooked and good quality. Covid19 precautions scrupulously applied, well spaced, well cleaned, service not intrusive but attentive. I felt safe eating inside as tables well spaced but could have eaten outside too. Thanks to the staff for giving me a safe place to eat in a nice atmosphere. Food as always was lovely. 👍

Very poor, food was dry and cold. Got served drinks after our food, which was late also. Heard an argument in the kitchen lol. Also the from the photos it seems this place needs a refurb, not as nice as the pics here.

The luxury hot chocolate was exactly what was needed after an afternoon in the water. Friendly staff who seem passionate ate about serving great drinks.

How can you simply put it! The staff are really friendly and helpful respectful of peoples space in the Covid panademic! The quality of the food was amazing! The homemade steak pasties are excellent melt in the mouth and not an ounce of fat! The baked potatoes are cooked to a light and fluffy. Portion sizes are generous. If I was in the area again, I would without doubt go there again!

During Lockdown Mark 111 this pleasant and established café in St Marychurch has opened for takeaways. Surely the best cheese straws in Torquay, no the planet! Huge at only £1 each they are very cheesy, full of flavour with a crunch. Fat sausage rolls in great pastry. Three options. Plain, with caramelised onion or chillies. Other lush pastries and cakes all home made to boot. Very pleasant and engaging owner.

Walked up from car park and sat outside but in the shade and a bit cold on the day we visited. Excellent service by the proprietor who duly asked for mobile phone number (covid). We will definitely go again.

Coffee under restrictions brings its own challenges. We received a friendly welcome on arrival but were informed that the cafe was full though if we were willing to wait five minutes there would be a table cleaned and prepared for us. After a short walk we returned and everything was ready. The tea and coffee were fine and the key lime cheesecake, clean fresh decor and friendly service have ensured that this will not be our only visit.

Was a great place and looked really pleasant inside. The food was lovely and the staff were very kind. The price of the food was great for what we had. Only problems I did phone to book but whoever had taken my booking had not recorded it, but luckily there was a free table.

Excellent PPE, good value and we booked again.

We have visited the coffee house a number of times and always loved the food here and it is great value for money. However they really went the extra mile today! The lovely man serving us was so welcoming and made me something that wasn’t even on the menu, he then went out of his way to the local shop to get some vegan butter (as they had ran out) so my fiancé could butter his toast. Absolutely exceptional customer service and I recommend to anyone visiting the precinct. Thank you coffee house, you’ve made our day!

Continuing our visits around regular venues after lock down , we visited the Coffee House. During lock down the owners have repainted and refreshed the venue and it now looks fresh and new. The tables are socially separated, so there are fewer of them and track and trace is in place. While we were there every table, both indoors and out, were occupied with people constantly arriving so it looks like the normal clientele has returned. The food and coffee were excellent and pricing remains as before. Glad to have visited and a very pleasant experience.

A very warm welcome recieved at this little cafe/restaurant. They have a ramp and disabled toilets, we just needed to ask for the ramp. The food was lovely and the service excellent. Listening to some others the place has had a refit so it was clean and fresh. The social distancing had been well thought out with markings on the floor. Thank you for a lovely lunch experience
