me and my partner went here for lunch and yes i would recomened this to all the food is good homsume cooked and land lady //land lord where very polite and helpful the chef was good for a giggle as well make sure you visit this one it is a gem

Were staying in a b&b in the same road so before checking in we popped into the captain jacks for a quick drink. The barman was very friendly and made us feel at ease. We decided to look at the menu and both ordered baguettes. We asked if they'd mind making one of them a cheese and onion and they were happy to do this. The baguettes were freshly baked and the fillings, salad and tortilla crisps that came with it were lovely and amazing value at just £3.95. We enjoyed so much we returned the next day for lunch again. Lovely friendly place and I hope they survive the tough times ahead as we will return

Had a wonderful couple of days here in Captain Jacks ..... they are very much part of the track and trace scheme and refuse service unless you fill it in . This is important to me and should be to everyone . so safe is how I felt straight away and at home. Then I ordered food which if I’m honest I thought ooh this is a bit of a limited choice but the food is like proper food. home cooked and delicious, so it’s a good choice and a good portion too. The hosts are great I feel really welcome, so thank you for that. In a time of such uncertainty Captain Jacks is a sure bet for a good time. In fact I think I’ll give it an excellent because since all this covid 19 stuff you either get excellent sanitizer and track and trace or an atmosphere , this place has it both.

We went here for drinks, had a warm welcome from Kevin and Helen who hadn't owned the bar long before Covid19 forced them to close, however they got through this and reopened. They also do meals, we had Sunday diner which was fabulous.

Every time I come to Paignton I visit this pub,the food is really nice and the atmosphere is great,you are always made to feel welcome.

My husband and I have visited on a few occasions since the pub has been under new management and found it to be excellent. The Landlord and Lady are welcoming and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. The pub is clean, airy and has a lovely outside space. Sunday roast was excellent, so too was the ploughman’s and nachos all priced very reasonably. A family and dog friendly pub an absolute little little gem.

Once again thanks for a fantastic sunday What can I say yet another wonderful Sunday lunch excellent value and superb quality. Its so nice to return to our local we have missed it. Our new landlord and landlady have family values at Hart. With total respect for all surrounding nabours. Great atmosphere. Great pub grub. Friendly landlords who made us feel very welcome. Sausage and mash is fantastic as is thier burgers. If your in Paignton, it's the place to be. Just an excellent experience.

I can honestly say this is the best Sunday 👌 roast i have ever had outside the house, everthing fresh and home made. Just wish i had taken a picture of it, and top it off staff and owners are really helpful and friendly.

Since finding out captain jacks was under new management, we decided to take our family for a sunday roast, the beef was melt in your mouth, potatoes and veg were plentiful, and they even catered for our youngest picky pallet, Kev and Helen couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome, we left captain jacks feeling very happy and full, highly recommended and will be definitely be going back!!

We (2) stayed in a colin road guest-house for 9 days. To find a food pub as good as captain jacks was a very pleasant surprise, especially in the same road. Under new management since start of lockdown, it is definitely not to be missed. We ate there several times, + held a birthday party there, upon arrival of children & grandchildren, and received absolutely superb service. We ended up drinking there every night, with a good atmosphere and very pleasant fellow visitors and very friendly locals. Proprietors are brilliant as evidently also is the chef. One cannot fault the food, service, or anything else. Anyone staying near should have a meal & drinks in captain jacks. Good menu to suit everyone, and the sunday roast dinners are just brilliant but best to book as very popular. Marilyn & Chris.

Popped in for drink and something to eat after a long drive. Landlord and landlady very helpful. Clean pub and pleasant music. Food was tasty and reasonably priced. They were everything they could to keep patrons safe, with a one way system and notices to remind people to keep their distance. Would go back again.

Stumbled across this pub by accident as a little away from the main streets but a great find. Staff & Locals were really pleasant & made us feel at home straight away. In fact mentioned looking for somewhere to watch the England Rugby game as early kick off & they offered to open up. Went along to watch the game & good result for England & again a good reception from the locals that also took the opportunity to watch the game. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a proper pub with a good local crowd

I’m not from Paignton but had come down for an event, after walking around before my train home, I discovered this lovely pub with my partner. I ordered a lovely roast dinner, large and with beef and pork and I couldn’t have had a better meal. Honestly it’s lush... great work from the kitchen. The bar itself was good too, I love it when a pub feels more like home than a walk around. Great service, gratitude to the food!Thanks Chaps

Last weekend me and my father called in at captain jacks while we was on holiday. A young lady served me the first night £6.60 for 2 pints of john smiths bitter, we had 2 rounds that evening. Called in on sunday evening, a middle aged bloke served me not particularly friendly and charge me £7.00 for the same round of drinks , i ordered the previous evening. I think charged me extra because i was not a local. Ask for the prices before you get served.

Visited recently, drinks good, atmosphere and staff likewise. Customers also very friendly towards strangers. A good group was playing and added to the offering of this establishment. Would definitely visit again. .

Passing by late in the evening called in on the off chance for something to eat. What a lovely warm welcome, had the feeling of a local family pub, very relaxing. Tracey you are a little gem, nothing is too much trouble and Alan your Pizza is THE BEST!!. Excellant value for money. Hope to visit again next year.

Food, music and fun. Great night out, friendly locals and great bar staff. Buffet was good old school fayre. Sausages on sticks with cheese and pineapple. Highly recommend for a holiday night out.

Their burger and a pint was great just like pub food should be, and a bargain price.Jacket potato and prawns good too.Second visit I had captain jacks burger more than I could eat My wife had the ploughmans, lovely. we will definnitely be back.Very friendly staff.

Staying at the hotel opposite we stopped in when passing for a quick drink, and after some deliberation we decided to get food, but weren't impressed.£10 for a burger, only for it to come with two slices of that cheap orange "plastic" cheese, and it wasn't very nice meat either, you could tell they were just cheap frozen burger van patties and not fresh made!! The chicken my wife had was cold in the middle but not raw, hence it was probably a microwaved frozen breast.

We parked close by and saw this pub just on corner of seafront road. Nice little terrace and other seats outside.

This is one fantastic pub, I found this place on the last day of my holiday and I so wish i found it sooner. It's a traditional pub that does many lager, cocktails and ales. They have a pool table, dart board, juke box, fruit machine and they also serve food. Cannot forget to mention they also sell Black Country Scratchings. This is by far the best pub I have been in Paignton. Come and visit this place. Me and my partner had such a good night here and the owner is lovely. Will definitely be coming back.

We have been here for the last seven years. Staff and locals always friendly and kind. We had an excellent Sunday carvery for evening dinner time. Dogs enjoyed their bits. Lovely venue, lovely local people. Will be back again.

Lovely local pub tucked away from the main strip of Paignton. Food was great value, around £9 a main, homemade and tasty. Staff were very helpful and drinks reasonable priced.

Sometimes the food is good and others, not so good and this time the latter. No menus, have to wait for the chef to tell us what he has available, music too loud, but the beer is ok.

Lovely family friendly pub. From minute walked in great astompher very welcoming. Made granddaughter happy lovely young landlords daughter dancing with her. Live music. Offered her sweets and ice cream even us. Couldn't ask for a more friendly pub just wish it was our local you do t get many pubs with this welcoming friendly astompher thanks for a great night.

I visited this pub as I was staying next door at the bayside hotel. I think I must have landed from another planet as when I walked up to the bar there was around 6 people standing at the bar everyone of them looked around and literally could not take there eyes off me. I ordered a drink and asked if they were serving food.I ordered a meal it took around 30 minutes to come. I wish I hadn't ordered it at all as it was very ordinary. This pub looks like it doesn't cater for strangers and should get a lesson in how to be hospitable.

We visited captain jacks 3 times during our week in Paignton. Location was perfect in relation to where we were staying. The staff and the locals made us very welcome. The food was great value and was delicious every time. And of course I had to join in the fun of karaoke. Big thumbs up from us guys

We visited this pub on the penultimate day of our Paignton holiday after an exhausting day. We were a bit sceptical as the decor and surroundings are not the most inviting but thank goodness we were completely wrong in our first impressions.

Went here as next to our hotel after Dubs on the beach a washout. Landlords not been there long but very welcoming. Been in pub trade ourselves & if you want a nice welcoming pub this is it. Better than others ( no names mentioned) in Paignton.

Away with work and fancied a steak and a beer. Found Captain Jack just down from my hotel, small outside eating area and a sunny, seaside evening - perfect!

Nice meal, served quickly and very filling. Clever changes of menu depending on the time of day with a new 'late bites' menu. Beers are good, too

Popped in for a quick cappuccino. The couple who now run the pub were really welcoming and it was just so lovely to sit outside in the sun (they have a large outside area). I will most definitely be back again.

The couple who own the pub are so welcoming and provide great food and entertainment. We had such a lovely time there and breakfast was well worth trying. The place couldn't make you feel more welcome, beer is good too. Definitely worth a visit. The pub just been refurbished too and is traditional with a modern touch. I'll definitely be going again on my travels to Devon. Evening entertainment is also fun and if you like Karaoke then it's the place for you.

Was five minutes after they stop food only wanted a portion of chips. Obviously wasn’t going to accommodate but was moaning about how quite they was. They told us to go to Chinese about 5 minutes away for takeaway.We said we would come back after getting chips as it was only around 9.30 so they then closed before we got back. Don’t moan about being quite if you then don’t want customers to return. Shame really as we would have spent a lot of money in there this week as staying overlooking the place. Hopefully this will help make them even less busy as they don’t deserve your time money and custom.

We called in for drinks on a couple of occasions, but only had an evening meal here on our final night of our holiday. Wishing we had eaten here more often during the week as the food was absolutely fantastic. Very well cooked and came out on a large well filled plate . Even though full, I just had to have my favourite desert, Lemon Meringue, afterwards. Very well presented and we throughly enjoyed our meals.

Captain Jacks is a very friendly pub, the bar staff are very cheerful & chatty. I must recommend the food. All freshly cooked, & the Sunday roast is fabulous! Also there is a karaoke night Fridays & Sundays. A must for people visiting Paignton

Came here as a family on first night of holiday. Lasagne burnt, hunters chicken good but my chicken curry was awful. Rice and sides were ok but chicken looked and tasted funny and wham 24 hrs later I spent the night on the loo! Service was quick and barmaid polite but whole place lacked atmosphere and felt unloved. We are than sat outside for a drink in the evening sun. Food is very cheap compared to local restaurants.

My family and I were in Paignton on a day trip. We decided to have a pub lunch and came across 'Captain Jacks'. From the outside it looked just like any other pub, but inside the service from the lady that served us was warm and friendly.

Came here today for lunch, first time since it had changed hands and what a difference. Furnishings much better, lighter and definately cleaner. Food excellent and very reasonably priced. Staff welcoming, friendly and allow dogs inside. Would recommend to all.

lucky for us this pub was on the same street we were staying in good bar staff lively quiz night, fantastic food really good atmosphere they did run out of Bacardi for some reason they blamed me brilliant night

Went to this pub today at 13:30 for some food. Sign outside said food is served mon- fri 12-2 - when I went to order food I was informed food is only served in the evening. Not what the sign says, I questioned this only to get no response. The barmaid seemed more interested in talking to her friends rather than serve me. Terrible service and definitely will not return or recommend in the future.

Our family was staying at the Rosslyn Hotel across the road,(excellent), and wanted a family friendly place to eat and spend the evening. We could not have chosen better, Max, 6 years old, ate early and chose the fish and chips from the children's menu, the chef came to him to ask if he preferred peas or beans and made him feel very important. The meal consisted of a smaller portion of battered fresh fish, chips and peas, followed by a choice of vanilla and/or chocolate ice cream with sauce. The meal would have been adequate for an adult with a smaller appetite, Max scoffed the lot and demanded that we all go there again. Later on as more of the adult family members and friends joined us, the adults got to eat, again the food was excellent and very good value. The icing on the cake was the Friday night karaoke. The standard was so high, everybody could really sing well. We as a family will definitely go here again.

Stopped for a snack at lunch time, wish we had not, worst sandwhich we have had, my wife had a prawn sandwhich, which looked ok, but was served on a hot plate, with very spicy doritos as a side, I had a cold B.L.T, Should have ate the plate, it was hotter, beer was terrible, had to take my pint back, replacement was no better.

Pub is off Esplanade and looks OK from the outside inside it is disappointing, something sort of seedy about it. Food was disappointing the chips being underdone and greasy the scampi being over fried and poor quality the peas were of varying levels of heat. My friend had the special - so called "home made" shepherds pie and that was just as disappointing, poor quality mince and the same problems with the veg.

Vibrant and bubbley atmosphere. Most definitely a child friendly pub. Quite slow service from staff but was a busy time on a Friday when we visited. They also have free wifi and the password is displayed for your use. Brilliant little pub

We were invited down by friends for the Sunday roast and it was a fantastic day food was top notch excellent value and plentiful also popped back in after noon surprised to find they had live music on and it was great too all in all will be coming back again thanks.

Called in here for a Saturday evening meal. It's slightly off the usual run of places to eat and was quieter than the quality of the food deserved.

Well what can I say it's a local pub, typically standard food, but what really does it for me is the long wait for everything!! Food, drinks, staff. Plus they don't have any regard for their neighbours with keeping noise down after 11pm as per the local bye laws!!

We dropped in on a drizzly Sunday lunch time and were lucky enough to get one of the last tables. There was a choice of roast beef, turkey or pork. I had roast turkey which was delicious and moist, certainly not pre sliced catering meat. The vegetable selection was superb and all cooked to perfection. My husband and son thoroughly enjoyed their generous helpings of roast beef. We were served very quickly by two lovely ladies. The weekday menu also looked superb, with lots of fresh fish- we can't wait to go back!

For years a run down and struggling establishment - the new owners with a new name are beginning to turn it around. Food is more than acceptable and the range of drinks good. Thursday night is quiz night, all entrants receiving complimentary chips and mushy peas!

We went there with intention of having a meal outside as we had a dog.. When I went inside I passed three women talking that I struggled to get past. I went to the bar where there were two people waiting to get served. After about three or four minutes, the three women that were talking split up. Two went out and the third decided to go behind the bar and serve. Because of the lack of interest in serving the customers we did not bother eating there, so cannot review the food side.

Great value drinks and a fantastic atmosphere where locals make you feel part of the family, the staff are awesome and karaoke on a Friday night draws out some great singers.

Formerly the tired but homely Embassy Tavern, Captain Jack's has had a facelift inside and out. Good beers and good food, the word has yet to get around to the locals but numbers are increasing. A word in particular to the staff who work like trojans to ensure all customers have an enjoyable evening.
