What a way to finish our holiday. Spectacular view and the sun was shining. Lovely staff and food was great. Will definitely return

Here for a Brixham crab sandwich for me and a cheddar, chutney and red onion sandwich for my daughter. A lovely day, so we sat outside and enjoyed the superb view all the way round Lyme Bay as far as the Isle of Portland. We finished up with chocolate and orange for one, with two forks. Exemplary waiting staff, delicious food and good drinks.

Our Gluten free lunch today was a delight. Tuna melt and Bacon, Brie & Cranberry sauce toasted sandwiches. The fillings were plentiful and the three slices of bread per sandwich very welcome. Food presented very well with crisps and salad garnish. Smashing tea pot and colourful cups and saucers Staff really nice and attentive without being pushy. Great views to enjoy whilst dining. A must visit for Coeliacs if in the area. We will return on our next visit to the area

Lovely food with great views. Spontaneous pitstop on the way to the cliff railway but we could have stayed hours. Friendly efficient staff. Even offered to take our photo when we we doing a group Selfie. Scone and clotted cream hit the spot. Fussy daughter No2 even emptied her plate of scrambled egg on toast.

The food delivery was very gast when i ordered scrambled egg on toast. Two cups of coffee in the jar and a great view of the ocean from the outside tables, as well as views of the cliff railway. Outside seating was a bit squashed but still nice. Staff were also friendly, no cap.

We went today and because we wanted to sit outside on the decking in the sun the young boy told us to sit anywhere then the owner came over and said u will have to move I want to keep that for six no other tables in the sun and it was empty there absolutely dead he wanted us to move he said u can go outside but not on decking so we walked out a bit rude but if he can afford to threw money away happy days we went to Paignton instead to be honest his food didn’t look that great toilets were bogging and his attitude stank oh and it was overpriced

This is a beautiful little café. fair prices and lovely staff... with lovely views and amazing food.... only normal everyday offerings but done & served in a very professional manner... spotlessly clean if I had to give some constructive criticism... don't get your staff to wait on and make customers pay before they have received any part of there order, just feels odd/wrong. I understand it if you are ordering at the till you usually pay before you receive... but when you are being waited on you usually pay at the end of service. other than that I highly recommend great little place. ooh, & my wife said it was the best cherry & almond scone she had ever had.

Lovely breakfast and beautiful views.

Ordered 2 large breakfasts but no flora margarine was available instead of butter so had to go without toast and no effort was made to obtain any. I visited this place about 5 years ago and it was great but it’s gone downhill since then, the waiter jumped on us straight after we had ordered our food for payment by card only (no cash alternative was offered) before we’d even tasted the food on offer. Found the whole dining experience rather disappointing and none of the staff particularly friendly or helpful. Won’t be returning again

With breathtaking views and a great atmosphere, this is a must for anyone visiting the area.

My friend and I stopped off here for a cup of tea & cake. Having just experienced a disasterous lunch in another establishment. Well, they could learn a lesson from Ben who gave us the ultimate & best customer service to date. We were greeted with a friendly & cheery manner, nothing was too much trouble. Ben you were great. Only had ice cream .but my word it was superb..will return

With our toddler, it was pouring with rain outside, went inside but our child wanted to sit outside under the canopy to have ice cream, so we were told to go outside to the ice cream counter. Where we waited in the rain while all the staff tried their hest to ignore us. When I finally ordered and paid for all our food, was then told 'by the way you can't sit in our outside area' It's a Thursday, pouring with rain, zero customers sat outside. So I didn't understand why they couldn't accommodate and were happy to let a three year old stand in the rain to eat an ice cream. Terrible customer service, rude staff and glad we didn't sit inside and spend more money. Real shame as we had just been on the funicular and down to the beach and had a great afternoon. Ruined by the railway cafe.

Nice coffee tea and cake fantastic view

Decided to return to this cafe today with my two sisters - I had trouble finding a parking space and one of my sisters has trouble walking far so I dropped them off and went to park. When I turned up (around 11.45 they were saying to the waitress they did not want to order untill I arrived. They were told they they only had 10 minutes to order from the breakfast menu - and we could not order from the lunch menu until 10 minutes had passed??? We were the only ones in there at the time apart from two other ladies. We asked more than once if we could order and we were told no we had to wait, by this time the cafe was filling up fast -we were able to order drinks however I was concerned we might be delayed as we had turned up early as we had another commitment. We eventually were able to order - the order came quickly and the food was great, the waitress was quick to come and ask for payment as soon as we had finished eating. Shame the experience was spoilt by the abrupt manner and inflexibility of the waitress/cafe.

Rude unwelcoming staff. No warm welcome, not attentive. The only good thing about this place is the view.

Had pot of tea for 4, and tea cakes. Service was good, staff polite, the view was lovely.

As suggested by the name, the Cliff Railway Cafe is on top of a cliff and views are gorgeous. The food was the standard sandwiches, toasties, etc but really good quality and good portion sizes. Staff were friendly and efficient, and the cafe is a good size so it was easy to get a table. It was raining when we went, but in nice weather you can also sit outside where the view is even better.

Ordered a takeaway sandwich, changed my mind and said I’d sit on the terrace. Order came in takeaway packaging but I didn’t mind. Was then told id ordered and paid for takeaway so I said I’d pay the difference. Was told this wasn’t possible so I’d have to leave. Dreadful customer service - I used to really like this place. Hope it’s a one off

Our favorite ice cream and hot drink cafe with spectacular views both inside and outdoor sits are available. Staff are mostly young and calm. In general, it is a family-friendly cafe perfect for babies and toddlers and even dog walkers.

Sat outside on the balcony area, flying visit, warm scone and coffee (one butter is never enough) helpful friendly staff... Stunning views...

Delicious ice cream to take away.

My aunt and I popped in today and not only were our coeliac requirements fully understood and accommodated, but the young guy who served us was so polite and lovely and couldn't have done more to help us and make us feel welcome. His service was flawless. We also thoroughly enjoyed the stunning view on a such a beautiful day. Highly recommend.

We sat on the balcony in the sunshine with a great view. A welcoming member of staff served us to good hot coffee. I recommend a morning visit to sit outside.

Back again, excellent food and a warm welcome. Always open, always great food.

Stopped for a quick hot chocolate, drink was great, staff were nice and friendly untill we had a card machine thrust in our face to pay for the drinks, befor we could even have a sip of it... won't be returning due to this. Verry poor.

This café is in a great location. Whilst being sat on the cliffs you are looking out to sea from the beautiful cliffs. It also has great customer service and a good quality menu. I had a deluxe hot chocolate it was a bit expensive but tasted great.

Came here early part of march. Probably not the best time to come tbh. Lucky with the weather but service was very slow when queuing outside. Hopefully will be more quicker in the summer as people were already changing mind whilst waiting in this off peak time of year.

Had a superb breakfast! Well prepared and presented, not at all greasy and tasted amazing. Staff were very pleasant and attentive. Will definitely be back!!

Used this place many times before and always returned. Went in today for full English breakfast and have to say this was the worst I have ever had. The food must be cooked prior and reheated. My sausages were burnt and rock hard, bacon dry, tomatoes burnt and the pot of beans luke warm. When I requested an unburnt sausage the waitress went away and seconds later brought back another equally inedible sausage. Not once did I receive an apology or a request if everything was OK. On a positive note the coffee was good. Sadly they have lost my custom.

Whilst the views were lovely and we managed to park okay, we were disappointed. We arrived very early in the day, so they hadn't been open for long, and already at the time, there was dirt under the table we sat on. Meet friends at this cafe and placed an order at the table. A mixture of hot and cold drinks, cakes, and a bacon sandwich. The bacon sandwich was just under £6 and consisted of 1 and a half rashers of bacon on white bread. As soon as staff saw the drink was finished, they were back over asking if we wanted another. We refused but remained seated. 3 times in total, they came over asking if we wanted anything else. The pressure was that much we caved and ordered another round of drinks. I wouldn't mind if the cafe was busy but there were only 4 tables (including ours) that were taken. It certainly wasn't a relaxing visit as after finishing the pressured round, we felt compelled to leave, or we were going to be jumped on again to spend more money. I took a visit to the toilet before we left, and i wished I hadn't. There was urine on the floor, and feaces spread on the rim of the toilet. Maybe they should have paid more attention to toilet checks than pressurising the customer to spend more money.

Lovely food, beautiful view. Staff were fab, was served by 2 young men who were friendly and very patient especially as they had a VERY rude man at the table behind us throwing his toys out the pram after his coffee went cold whilst he was wandering round trying to get 4g! Not staffs fault yet he seemed to think so. They were very professional given his disgraceful attitude. Food was quick & lovely,few things had ran out but we were there literally mins before they stopped serving food so understandable. If you are in the area highly recommend,especially if youve just walked the hill up from the beach!

This café is in a great location, looking out to sea from the cliffs at Babbacombe. It also has great service and a good, affordable menu. I had a small cooked breakfast with a mocha plus a piece of cake to take away for later. Both were great.

A peaceful break for me and 3 friends. It was a very late lunch but we were still made to feel welcome. Very impressed with the young men working. They were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Very nice crab sandwiches in a clean and attractive atmosphere.

I had a disappointing experience today at my favorite place for coffee and ice cream, Babbacombe. The staff member I encountered had a very rude attitude. It was a cold and windy day, so I just wanted to grab a coffee to go. As I walked in, the lady staff member didn't even greet me and immediately asked if I was looking for a table. I told her I was just there for a coffee, and she responded harshly and abruptly, saying that they were full. The way she spoke to me made me feel unwelcome. She even mentioned that there was no space for my pram, which I found unnecessary. I was just taking a walk with my 2-month-old baby, what did she expect? If she had been polite, I would have understood the situation. The way she handled the situation was very unprofessional. I used to highly recommend this place, but after this experience, I'm not sure if I will ever go there again or recommend it to others. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and works on improving their customer service.

Run well, efficient service, good menu and clean.

A friendly greeting as soon as you step inside. Busy place but with speedy, friendly and helpful service. I had the large breakfast. It arrived very quickly and everything was piping hot. Washed down with a very nice pot of tea. Result! Would definitely recommend and it was obviously a favourite with the locals too.

I went on Tuesday for a quick bite to eat. I was seated downstairs on a lovely comfy sofa with stunning views. A very friendly lady served me and I didn't have very long to wait for my cheese scone and latte. Both were very enjoyable and I would definitely return.

We had an amazing time at this cafe with out family in the new downstairs area with some leather sofas. Which you would expend hours there chatting along with those amazing views. Management and Staff were amazing, polite and always asking if all was OK. We felt spoiled, such a great place which we have always skipped by. If you are around definitely pop by and have something to eat or drink, well worth it.

Spotlessly clean, very efficient service, lovely staff, good food at reasonable prices, and the most amazing view! Easy parking on the road outside (though probably not so easy in high season!), and a lovely walk along the cliff road to walk off your food.

We had a delicious breakfast sandwich at this very popular cafe yesterday. The service was excellent. Reggie was given a dog sausage of his own and he loved it !! This is him after finishing it. We were so impressed that we came back after a long walk for some delicious cake and flapjack. Again, the service, staff and food were all great.

Popped in as we were passing for a late lunch, great to be able take the dog onto the terrace, the waitress was really pleasant and helpful, we had the soup of the day and I must say it was the best sweet potato and butternut squash soup I've had in some time, great views out to sea were just a bonus.

Love this place, the service is great, the food is fresh and the views are exceptional!! The prices are missing range but considering how fresh and delicious the food is, I think uts well worth it.

All I want to say is... Expensive for what it is, however what a view!

Ordered 2 brie and cranberry paninis and tea and coffee. WASTED £24, tiny little piece of brie in each, smoothed in cranberry jam...DISCUSTING, sent it back, staff cut a small strip of cheese and pushed it in them , DIABOLICAL, what a farce.... BUYER BEWARE

A lovely, well presented cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. The breakfast menu was fairy limited but we both had the mini breakfast which was very good. Good cappuccino. Lovely views.

Misleading sign says open until 8:30 for ice cream in September but 5 of us were turned away at quarter to 5.

Fab location. Fab crew. As locals, a regular haunt and as is often the case brought guests, this time over from Aotearoa New Zealand, to show off our beautiful Babbacombe Downs. The Cliff Rail Café is one of the best positioned whilst enjoying a hearty breakfast. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

Great food, lovely waiters and live music

Myself and my companion who is a registered partially sighted person bought a couple of excellent ice creams here on Wednesday afternoon. Very hot and the ice creams were melting fast as were we. I asked politely if we might eat our ice creams at one of the many empty tables. I was told very firmly that we were not allowed to eat “take away” at the tables. Fair enough I suppose that is why I asked . The waitress then stated sharply that there was a sign to that effect which my friend could not see and I did not see. There was no need for the waitress to be so sharp with us. We sat down on a nearby bench where I overheard the waitress remarking unkindly about us to a customer. Which was embarrassing and hurtful to hear.

Sat down to order. Had to pay before food was delivered, did they think I was a thief? Not happy. Food was expensive, £25+ for two sandwiches, a tea and a coffee. Bread not particularly fresh. Half way through the second half of my sandwich a spider dropped from my lettuce. Didn't complain, review based on service expected not what was received.

Didn’t eat here but stopped to have a drink, the staff are very friendly and the drinks are reasonably priced, would definitely recommend

We walked past several hotels and Costa to get here and glad we did. Beautiful location friendly staff and lovely food. Idyllic setting for an hour or two on a sunny afternoon.

Found this place by accident and was open on a bank holiday Monday. The views are stunning and staff are very friendly. We had a cooked breakfast and it was honestly one of the best we’ve had. The only reason I didn’t rate it 5 stars is because the wait for the food was very slow (45 mins) but that might be because it was a bank holiday

Ordered scones and drinks. Scones warm like freshly made when brought out and didn’t get a jam flavour choice as some do but still okay. Very tasty scones and stated were freshly made. As soon as arrived were seated in a seat of choice and...

Beautiful cafe, stunning views, fantastic facilities and wonderful purple haired waitresses who was so friendly and welcoming. Rainy day in Torquay so we had a bit of a walk and discovered the Railway Cafe. Tea, coffee and the best scones in Babbacombe if not Britain. Warm, moist with jam and cream perfection.

Super cafe. Table service.... Excellent selection of food....great wc suitable for wheelchair users....seating inside and outside..... Well worth the visit.....(only a short walk from the model village and the cliff railway)...
