Great pub for a spot of lunch for a catch up and very good service and the food was lovely and staff was great Good value for money

We’ve been here several times recently for a late lunch after visiting family in Macclesfield hospital. What a lovely warm and friendly pub. Staff are so helpful and the food is amazing. The chef even cooked my dish from fresh today because I asked for no cheese. Every meal we’ve had has been fresh and delicious.

Not been in here for a very long time. From memory it was a tired looking pub and a bit character less, however I heard it was under new management so thought we'd give it a try and we weren't disappointed. The pub has changed a lot since I last visited and for the better in my opinion. The pub is mostly open planned now and really nice and fresh. The beer garden looked nice so I can see us sitting in it a few times over the summer :-) we were greeted by a nice young man as we entered the pub (think he was the landlord) and he was very attentive and pleasant. We were a party of three and all enjoyed the food we had so will definitely visit again. Hopefully the pub takes off and becomes successful again, the new houses over the road will hopefully help with that. See you again soon.

First time visitors. Decided on the spur of the moment to go out for food. Very friendly welcome. Excellent food, great service. We will most certainly be back here again (its only 5 minutes from our house)

Dog friendly pub and the food was very good, but it took over an hour to get our meal. The young man, who took our order apologised for the wait and did chase up the food. He also didn't charge us for one pint of beer. An older man told us they had a backlog following a lunchtime rush. We said it would have been good to have been told this when we arrived, to which he replied 'the man who took your order should have told you this'. To blame it on some else was bad management (assuming he was the Duty Manager). We will not be going back and it's such a shame as the food was very good.

We came for lunch last Sunday and were really impressed. The food was all delicious an the staff couldn't do enough for you. The pub itself is also looking really smart inside and the prices are really reasonable.

Had a fantastic meal this evening at The Cock, Henbury for myself, my wife & our 2 children. The Bacon, Brie & Cranbery Panini with chips was fresh, piping hot & incredibly tasty. The salad was perfectly chilled & fresh & the balsamic vinegar drizzled on top complemented the salad perfectly. My son loved his kids burger & chips so much he kept taking photos of it for his social media & he ate the lot! My daughter loved her Tuna Melt too & my wife who never finishes her food actually ate all of her burger & fries & really enjoyed it too. We all had the delicious Salted Caramel Cheesecake for dessert which again, ended with empty plates. My kids rated the whole evening 100/10 which is high praise indeed from the fussy little monkeys. The beer was also perfectly chilled & tasty. Apart from the food being of such a very high standard & good value, it’s really important to point out just how amazing all the staff here are. Attentive, friendly, no waiting for someone to come over & clear the plates or take orders. They were there just when you needed them & gave service with a big smile. Lovely people. We are so very lucky to have The Cock, Henbury so close to home & to have it reopen with great food, great drink & impeccable service from a very strong team. We will return again very soon, can’t wait!

Second visit for food since its recently reopened. “Best grilled cheese in the world and universe, 20 stars” Archie, age 5. The pie is gorgeous too, but go hungry!! Will be back again soon. Lovely friendly service, food great and reasonably priced.

A really nice pub, which still has character, a tap room to one side & a lounge to the other with comfortable seating. The food was excellent at a reasonable price. The steak & ale pie was delicious & the pastry not to thick, steamed veg chips with a crispy outer & gravy. The slice of chicken & mushroom pie was full of tender chicken. Julian and the staff are very friendly & made us very welcome. We highly recommend this Robinsons pub Thank you for a very good customer experience, we enjoyed ourselves & hope to come back soon.

I visited with my partner last week and all i can say is the price you pay does not reflect the service or food standards. It really is a shame as we both live not far away maybe it was an off day!

My wife and our two children decided to go for a late Sunday lunch at 17.00 today. The experience was spectacularly bad from the very beginning. With a half empty restaurant we had to wait to be seated whilst a waitress cleared and wiped a recently vacated table when there were numerous other tables for 4 free and already set. Once we'd been seated and ordered our starters arrived and the we realised there was no cutlery on the table so I had to go over to the staff and ask for knives and forks. We ordered roast beef dinners for main which I can only describe as the worst plate of food I've ever been served. The beef was very thin, cooked to death and full of fat and gristle. This was served with soggy roast potatoes, carrot and swede slop and raw green cabbage and this came with a gravy boat of what I can only describe as brown tasteless dishwater which I guessed doubled up for their version of gravy! Absolutely appalling food. To make matters worse, the terrible standards of food were matched by clueless and incompetent table service. When our mains arrived I again had to request cutlery - the waitress seemed almost surprised when I had to ask again for knives and forks! Perhaps we were expected to eat with our hands who knows? After leaving half of our inedible main courses our kids said that they would like a dessert. We requested a dessert menu when our main course plates were cleared away, but the dessert menu never came. Whenever we looked over to the bat area where the waiting on staff seemed to congregate, they were always engaged in idle chit chat or in their phones and seemed uninterested in servicing the paying customers. At this point we just gave up and asked for bill.This is by far the worst dining experience I've had in a very long time. No-one in charge of proceedings with rudderless incompetent staff who all seemed to working their first shift ever in a pub restaurant setting. In summary then, I highly recommend that you steer well clear of this shambolic establishment. Spend your £75 on something else and save yourself the trouble and inevitable disappointment.

I’ve not been in since it has changed hands but after a starter of pork belly bites and a main of mussels in white wine and garlic sauce, I sat back dipping my chips in the sauce thinking what a great lunch I’ve had without feeling bloated. The chips were crisp, the mussels were piping hot and the bread good enough to make a chip butty with. We were served promptly and pleasantly by the waitress and nothing was too much trouble, well done to all.

Under new management and you can tell. Really great experience. Food choice great, new menu really does have something for everyone without being ridiculously long so you know it can't be fresh. The waitrress was absolutely lovely and really made us smile, very chatty and approachable. Food came piping hot and very tasty. Outside seating area is fantastic. Prices very good. Couldn't fault it for a Friday night tea with friends. Will be back.

Very poor service, waited over an hour for food and it wasn't that busy.Waitresses not trained in restaurant etiquette (tables not cleared properly before sweet served) (although one of the waitresses was very nice). tiny portion of chips (not chunky chips as described) with meal of fish and chips and half inedible, fish looked watery (not fluffy white fish) Drinks not replenished. Pudding was lovely. Our bill was "delivered" to us at 9.20pm without asking for it.

Used to be a favourite of ours many years ago, so decided to give it another go.. The place looked bright and cheerful and had a good choice menu, the service was good and the food was really nice. I had the pork and my wife had a steak, really well cooked and certainly not over priced. Yes well done

Always a friendly pub, the new owners have kept the same atmosphere while extending the menu and wine list. The quality and presentation of the food was excellent and so nice to have freshly prepared dishes. Highly recommended and if you give it a try you will return.

First time we have been for a meal in a long time. What a change the area’s bigger, cleaner and everything has change for the better. The food was outstanding and both my husband & I enjoyed our meals, the service was also top notch. Highly recommend!

Dawn and Mark are always friendly and their food is easily as good as other local establishments where you'd pay a lot more. They are maintaining a safe environment for customers and it's unfair they should have to close.

We were really delighted with our food at The Cock Inn last Sunday. The landlords Dawn and Mark always give their customers a warm welcome (who were new to The Cock at the beginning of 2020, and have really made it flourish). We’ve enjoyed their food previously, so booked it for a birthday lunch. It was even better than before! I had a starter of pork belly (and black pudding, for those of you who love it like me!) which was very tasty, followed by delicious leg of duck. We would really recommend it. There was a great atmosphere as the staff served everyone at their tables (without us even realising that they were guiding us through the COVID guidelines), chatted and ensured we were enjoying our meal. It was lovely to see so many people enjoying their local pub. They’re also serving takeaway now, so you still have chance to enjoy it during lockdown #2!

Wow just had a fantastic meal at the Cock. Everything home cooked from scratch to perfection. This is restaurant quality food at a friendly pub. The chicken Katsu curry is spot on, well spiced with a decent kick, devoured it! Husband and daughter had steak and unicorn pie. Its a proper pie! (not a dish of stew with pastry lid like most places these days). Packed with big chunks of tender beef. Served with fresh mixed veg and basket of chips - absolutely wonderful! For dessert the sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce was honestly the best I've had... And I've eaten a lot of sticky toffee puddings! Staff were helpful and friendly. Covid measures in place. We left feeling absolutely stuffed because didn't want any of this delicious food to go to waste!Most highly recommended.

Great little find! We ended up eating here as we couldn’t book a table where we originally wanted to go. I’m so glad we did! The food was great and the atmosphere was good too. The Landlord and Landlady were extremely welcoming and the service was attentive but not overbearing. We will definitely be making The Cock Inn one of our go to pubs!

Enjoyed a lovely lunch today at The Cock Inn. Cheerful welcome and a short but varied menu of pub classics, all freshly homemade. Food was delicious and great value. Only minor criticism was the music selection, but that's probably my fault for sitting under the speaker and being a fussy bugger about music. Really wasn't an issue though, and didn't spoil what was one of the best pub lunches we've had in quite a while.

I arrived with my son (11yrs), We were greeted by Mark & Dawn. I ordered the chicken Katsu Japanese curry which to be honest was absolutely outstanding as I've never tried it before, My son had the sirloin cooked to a medium, he said it was the best steak he has EVER eaten. Which was great because he's so picky, then he had the home made sticky toffee pudding which was excellent. Finished off by a latte. I would recommend this Real ale pub to anyone who likes excellent food. A true little diamond who deserves to survive in the current climate.****** Stars as Mark & Dawn keep the place lovely and clean. The toilets were spotless, all inside areas were as clean as a whistle. The outside beer garden was really fresh and clean. Certainly not left to rack and ruin as so many pubs leave them. Altogether a beautiful pub,food & beer garden. Definitely worth a visit or three.

This was our first visit back at the Cock for a long time and was very pleasantly surprised. Received a warm welcome into a great atmosphere.We had telephoned to book a table, which had a reserved notice on, and after getting drinks and being seated was given the menus. As we were quite late into the afternoon the Roast was completely gone, but the fantastic menu had lots to offer.I can highly recommend the Liver with crispy bacon Pomme Puree,peas and gravy. Great man size portions and cooked to perfection.My wife had her usual go to, which was the Scampi hand cut chips and peas together with the tar tare sauce. Again wonderful size portions and delicately cooked. Unfortunately I hadn't left room for a dessert but my wife went for the Profiteroles which were filled with cream. The bottom of the delicate glass bowl was also lined with ice cream.The service, food and atmosphere were classic, and everything reasonably priced.Would I recommend The Cock at Henbury ?Yes 100% in a heart beat.Give it a try I am sure you will not be disappointed. Oh and they have special nights for different food as well as the normal menu.Monday I think is Pie, Thursday is Curry and Friday is Fish all priced with a drink included.

I'd not visited the Cock Inn for many years and after hearing that it had changed hands I decided to give it a whirl. Well! Am I glad I did. Good menu, very clean and spacious but cosy at the same time. Real ale is served and a different guest beer every few weeks. I decided on the Fish,chips and mushy peas and I must say that they were the best I've had in a long long time. The Haddock was beautifully cooked in a golden beer batter and the chips were perfect.Good sized portions (I had to leave a chip) and very reasonably priced. A proper good pub with proper good grub. I'll be back.

The pub is under new management and the new owners are extremely friendly - The atmosphere was incredibly relaxed, you would think the food was from a 4/5 star resteraunt. 10/10 would recommend this pub to anyone.

Liver and bacon really good, veggie pasta and roast veg in sauce equally good, as was Hunter's chicken and battered whale/haddock and chips which was well received too. Only criticism was one of meals could have been hotter. All round very satisfied.

We booked a table for 14 people for a birthday celebration, a week prior to our visit, to be told on arrival that there was no table and had we booked the right place. Not the best start, but they put tables together and we had a nice meal. In our party were 5 children of various ages. We had finished our meal and were chatting away while the kids we keeping themselves amused together on a seating area next to our table causing no trouble at all and away from any other customers. A young girl started to clear our table and a ornament fell of a shelf and smashed. Not caused by our children!!!! The young lad, who was earlier behind the bar, went past the children and said it’s not a play area in the most vile tone!!! I have worked in a country pub for 5 years and would never have even dreamed of speaking to my patrons that way or anyone else to be honest. He then went past again saying the same and referring to a little girl of 2 yrs as him again in the most disgusting manner. At that point I was raging, and decided to speak to the lady who had served our meals and taken our order. She politely told me that the young lad was the so called Manager and there was nothing she could do. I will never eat there again and I just can’t believe businesses run that way!! Absolutely disgusting!!!!

The food was lovely, but the management let our whole experience down. We had booked a table a week in advance for this evening for 14 of us to celebrate a birthday, they had no reservation for us and was asked ‘if we were sure we were at the correct place’. We even gave the date we rang when making the booking, after a few huffs and puffs they pushed some tables together for us. One of the other staff members knocked over a old China vase (by accident), and the manager came over in front of us and other customers and said to her ‘that’s coming out of your wages, that costs more than your mortgage’ she was so embarrassed the poor girl. We were a family with younger children the youngest being 2, and was told ‘it’s not a playground’ baring in mind the children weren’t being loud they were just playing. 5 mins later he came back out and referred to my daughter as a ‘HE’. We will NOT be returning. I feel sorry for his staff!!!

Called in here the other day. The service was excellent I think the girl is called jo went out of her way to make our visit totally enjoyable. The food was excellent table service excellent. We stayed for a drink after our meal and the barmaid jo,had us laughing. Will defo return and hopefully jo will be working. A refreshing change from some barmaids we have met.

Went to the Cock Inn for meal out and pleasantly surprised by an excellent meal. Chips...a good marker for pub restaurant good...wete excellent. Nice wine complimented the meal and good service.

Hi food ok but staff leave alot to be desired. Not friendly although they messed up on order, sarcastic, no smiling or apoligosing. Too many other places, atmosphere not good, give it a miss.

Went for sunday dinner. As was told by friends the old chef was back and the lovely lady behind the bar. She is ever so nice think her name might be Joanne dark hair .always makes you feel welcome. Ordered 2 beef dinners didn't have to wait long.
