Chatwins cakes and bread are always good. Coffee is okay but Costa and cafe Nero are better

Can’t price match Costa (cafe just next door). There is also no table service, staff seem tired and miserable after 12. Shortage in choice of food by after lunch, only a couple different choices left. Staff left to go serve the take out mid way through our order. Appalling cafe.

Our first visit to Sandbach in a while, and we chose Chatwins for its Kerb Appeal. We were directed to the dining area and our order was soon taken. Waiting for our food to arrive (maybe ten minutes at a busy Tuesday lunchtime) allowed us to absorb the pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. The premises are bright, clean and welcoming. The food, when it came, was wholesome and satisfying. Altogether, a most pleasant experience. Chatwins may well be our first choice for lunch, should we pass this way again.

Good coffee shop but the most expensive in town. Cheaper and better places exist but they are smaller.

2pm on a Sunday afternoon. Nothing left, lucky they had coffee, which wasn’t very good. Understaffed. Toilet had no paper.

Went in to eat inside. There was already 2 customers at the take out counter. There was a sign saying to wait at a different counter to eat in - so this is where I stood. The 3 staff members stayed at the take away counter and served the 2 customers and then 2 more customers came in and they started to serve those as well. I was never spoken to or acknowledged as a customer and after some time I left without any comment from any member of staff. I would not of cared if I was told someone would be with me shortly but I got nothing. Terrible customer service.

Came in for a bite for lunch. I had the gam and cheese toastie, mrs had the tuna melt. Coffee and tea and a fruit danish. Both toasties were on very fresh bread and really nice as was the drinks. Thank you's very much

It's not the cheapest, but those hot carvery baps are fantastic! Being from Wigan, home of the meat and potato pie, I find Chatwins pies have a thick, hard crust and lack filling!

Greatest ham and cheese toastie I've ever had, seriously amazing! Great atmosphere, on the pricer side, but definitely worth it. Would go again on a cold day.

Edit - happy to report that this seems To be resolved, much improved. Food is the only reason I have been back, but for a shop so big how they survive I will never know. Always have key items like sausages missing. Surely it’s not hard to notice if you are running low on sausages, put some more in the oven. But that would be giving this staff to much credit as they don’t care as it never seems to be there problem.

So I dined in for breakfast. Service was great. Staff nice and pleasant. Food was a little colder than I expected, but it was still nice hence I didn't give it top marks. But I would still go again.

Ordered a cheese toastie £6. 75 , would have been good to find cheese in it !!!!! Do not order one.

What a smashing cafe with such friendly and helpful staff! It’s been an awful week since last week and the lady behind the counter couldn’t have been more helpful with suggesting food and also giving me some paper so I could an important message down I’d been told on an audio file. An asset to this lovely market town I feel. Delicious food and Yorkshire tea too - bonus!

Whilst the food is OK the fundamental organisation is absolutely terrible. The waiting time is not acceptable and the staff have no focus or leadership! Terrible

Spent ages waiting had to clear my own table! Understaffed and badly run. I always like local food but unless you’ve a full 40 mins to wait before you eat go else where.

Three of us stopped in Sandbach for a quick breakfast. We all had variations of the bap with bacon or sausage or egg. With coffee. We all enjoyed it, and should we be passing through again, would be happy to return.

Very disappointed as they could offer nothing gluten free only a packet of crisps. Their excuse was that they used to do it but they had too much waste. There is such a thing as a freezer and gf bread freezes well, they could take out of freezer to order. No cake, no biscuits wrapped, even had NO soup! There are a lot more people with food intolerance these days than there ever used to be.

Love Chatwins. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The food is All gorgeous and the cakes are The Best! Well priced for local produce, prepared and cooked fresh.

This place definitely struggles to work out whether it’s a cafe or a shop. Waited 10 mins for a shop purchase without any acknowledgement that we were there, with about 10 people behind us in the queue. Meanwhile 6-7 staff ran around doing other stuff. If there’s going to be a long wait, staff need to communicate this to customers.

Go to lunch, snacks & bakery, right in the town centre. Always good. Nice staff & cafe area.

Eat in at Chatwins regularly and tried their Yorkshire Pudding wrap this time around. Far too much for one person but finished it nevertheless - packed full of pork, sausage, bacon, stuffing, and amazing Yorkshire pudding. Awesome.

My family have been using this bakery since they started in nantwich with mr Arthur Chatwin when he started selling pies through his house window, well run business and still quality produce well done.

Freshly made sandwiches are amazing. The cakes are also delicious.

I was sad about my experience. I saw Costa and thought, no let's go to support the local place. Which looked pretty empty in comparison. Anyway... Things I wanted were out of stock and staff were too busy doing stuff in the back to serve me. Asked about the stuff they advertised, said it had run out before going back to what ever else was going on. Stood there a while waiting as the only person before I gave up. I'm in Costa now with a cup of tea that's 30% cheaper, wishing you guys all the best with feedback I hope you use.

Food is ok....but getting worse. No more breakfast since COVID I went today and it was awful but you have to wait a loooooong time for it to arrive (soup and a sandwich was ordered). The new yts doesn't help. Checked the disabled toilets out, three teenagers had been in here for 40 mins so there was tissues on the floor. Toilets are not cleaned regularly, no hand towels or hot water. freezing cold too..doors left open.

Oh dear , I use Chartwins possibly too regularly for morning bacon rolls but not coffee as I thing McD's is better [ stronger ] and less pricey . Chatwins do have a reputation for being on the expensive side but I work on the - you get what you pay for - philosophy , well until today that is . Child No 3 who was in a foul mood due to teenage angst and I had a snack lurch , sausage roll , cheese and onion bap , two cokes and two cakes and a packet of crisps , £18.75 of your fine GBP thank you very much ! It wasn't until later that I looked at the receipt to see the bap with margarine , cheese and onion was costed at £5.20 ! Are they having a laugh ? Yes they are ! Queried it today and was told it was because I was eating it inside and therefore the issue was with tax which I doubt when one of these to take out is around £3.50 ish which is taking the proverbial anyway - I had wondered why the chap on the next table was getting the hairdryer treatment from one of the staff for eating in when he had paid to take out , and now I know - Edward Chatwin , do not take your customer base for granted or use us to fund your expansion to this sort of degree - appreciate what you have and your footfall , it may not always be there if you carry on profiteering -

The food quality is first class, there are plenty of options and although it was busy the service was very good

We visited Sandbach this morning for the first time and chose Chatwins for our refreshments. So glad we did! Staff were efficient and friendly and the food we ordered was excellent. We could not leave without taking some cream cakes and freshly baked bread home! A place we will return to when in the area most definitely

Today was the third time in the last year I’ve been spoken to with a bad attitude from staff - unhelpful and rude.

Very nice cheese and ham toasties.

Plenty of choice and only a short queue. Chatwins can sometimes have a long queue which shows its popularity.

My husband and I popped in on Friday for some takeaway food. We have never experienced such a miserable bunch of staff before. 5 of them behind the counter. Not one smiled, despite the customers being really friendly. Some tried to engage with the staff but were met with blank, unsmiling faces. The atmosphere (behind the counter) was quite shocking. We won’t be back, would prefer to take our business elsewhere. For what it’s worth the food was really nice but the experience left us feeling quite appalled.

Bread is the best around and even take a loaf on holidays with me . Salad boxes are superb I have only encountered friendly efficient and professional staff

Normally really excellent service and food but on my last visit I ordered soup of the day and a veggie pasty the soup was luke warm and the pasty looked over cooked and didn't taste very nice either so got thrown away .

Called in for lunch with my friend. At 1.30 no tuna left, no roast carvery wraps left, rude staff, counter was left unattended. Expensive for what we got can’t say it was value for money. And this was in half term!!! Won’t be coming back.

Lunchtime visit on 12th October. We ordered two roast pork rolls however they could only fulfil one. As an alternative I had a tuna mayo with salad roll. Both were truly excellent sandwiches! Also had a side of coleslaw which was ok but not up to the sandwich standard. Staff were obliging. Decent toilet facilities.

Called into Chatwins this week and they have 0 vegan offerings! Disappointed to say the least. Even Gregs have a vegan 'sausage' roll.

Stalest loaf I’ve had in a long time. Should have had it sliced, have almost blunted my bread knife. I wonder if they’ve given me a window prop in error.

We called in for hot chocolate, coffee and cake/ biscuit, the drinks were nice but the cakes and biscuits were very dry, we definitely would not buy them again.

Went in at 4pm to be told couldn't sit down for a coffee and cake as tables had been cleaned. This was an hour before closing..... girl was quite rude as well. went to Costa next door instead.

The 2 stars is for the quality of the cakes. Me and my family have been using Chatwins for years and always enjoyed the take out service. The eat in service is however terrible at best. They charge premium prices and don’t even offer table service, no one greats you or helps you find a table, no one comes to give you a menu when you’ve sat down. We had 2 tosties and 2 coffees and it cost just over £17. I genuinely wouldn’t of minded paying that price if the quality of service was good, but unfortunately the server practically threw our food down in front of me and referred to me and my elderly mother as ‘guys’ Not impressed at all and slightly embarrassed. Definitely need to up their game…

Never had any luck at this bakery/cafe. The first time we visited with family for a quick lunch. There were insufficient staff to serve at a busy time. We first tried to have our food to eat in, having found a table, but there’s no...

This café still has the ridiculous system whereby if you're eating/drinking in you are "herded" the opposite end if the counter to pay. This means you have to walk back to the warm food & cake counters to chose your food. To add insult to inury on this particular visit the dishwasher was broken so everything was served as "take out" although still charged at "eat in" prices. Customers are still treated as a nuisance which given this is a service based business is amazing. I only came here because my "go to" café was closed. Next time I'll walk the extra 15m to Costa where you get better everything. I'm amazed this place makes a profit and is still trading here in Sandbach.

Sorry but the mined pie pastry is dense and too much for the little amount of filling. Aldi pies are so much lighter and cheaper.

Went in at just after midday today to order two cheese sandwiches and an egg sandwich. Only to be told that they had neither. Really poor so early in to the lunch service. A problem that could have been resolved by a member of the team visiting a supermarket in the town. As a local I have used chatwins a lot over the years, but never again.

New staff in restaurant but pleasant and friendly, food a bit rustic and not up to Chatwins normal high standards. Needed to notify manager about the condition of the toilet, not there fault but should be checked more frequently. On the whole reasonable lunch.

Lovely clean and well ventilated. Friendly efficient staff and lovely food. Perfect.

Very disappointed that they were not serving cooked English breakfasts, only served breakfasts on bread baps which is not good if you have gluten sensitivity and can't eat the bread, but offered to put the food on a plate without bread for the same price. Accepted the offer but when food arrived it was on the smallest plate ever, overdone fried eggs hanging over the side of the plate and cold fried mushrooms. Not what I would have expected from Chatwins at all.

I was extremely disappointed by our visit to the Sandbach cafe earlier today. I was meeting up with my daughter, son and grandson who live locally. Myself and my partner had travelled up from Shrewsbury. It was my partners first time in Chatwins. As I have lived away from the area for a few years I was looking forward to sampling Chatwins food again as it had been some years since I had last had some. Unfortunately I wasn't impressed with the experience. We decided to eat in at the Sandbach cafe and as we had my baby grandson with us. We sat in the section at the rear of the building and were the only ones in there. We ordered a sandwich (bap) and a hot drink each. The sandwich came on its own. There was no garnish or anything. Just on its own on a plate. The drinks were luke warm. I feel that at around £15 for two sandwiches and two drinks it was a complete rip off!!! The lighting in the area we sat in was terrible. They were that bright that it felt as though you were being interrogated. The toilets were filthy. Very dusty and the gents had urine stains as though they hadn't been cleaned for a very long time. There was also no area where you could change a baby's nappy. Sorry but i wouldn't recommend the place as somewhere to get good value nice food!!

Called in for a bacon bap to take out, as I was hungry. Waitress, mid 20's with black hair, decided her priority was to (very slowly) clear 3 tables, despite nobody waiting to be seated, rather than serve me. I was left at the counter...

Dreadful experience. Totally unhelpful disinterested staff. No obvious supervisor or manager. The order was delivered to the table with items missing by a totally disinterested and apparently mute waitress. Never go back.

Had the misfortune of going in here. I asked to get a pie reheated because it was cold and my knife wouldn't cut through the meet not only did they say it is pork is meant to be served cold (maybe it is who knows) but they declined to get it heated. Absolute let down!

I go into the Chatwins in Sandbach nearly every Wednesday throughout the year. The staff are amazing,friendly and I look forward to going in for my food. I have also seen them at other places from there workplace and they recognise me which is nice....

I went in today found a table which was dirty, cleared the table and wiped it down then sY down while my daughter went to get a drink. A young member of staff told me someone else was sitting there and told me to move. We left. My daughter who is local then told me of two previous bad food experiences there, so dont bother!

I regularly visit Chatwin’s in Sandbach. It’s like home from home. In addition, the staff are wonderful and the great food and drinks a bonus. Can take a little time when busy but well worth it for such a great experience. Relaxed and friendly. Love it.

Nice recent extension to the busiest cafe in Sandbach. Not much for the steamy windows tho and find Chatwins a little over priced. But really enjoyed the cappuccino and gingerbread man. The staff were very pleasant too.
