Had a lovely Sunday lunch here with my partner. The array of veg on the plate was superb and the topside of beef literally melted in the mouth. The gravy too was just right, as was the Yorkshire Pudding. We couldn’t fault it. It was delicious! The service was attentive and warm too. Lovely staff. When we were shown the dessert menu, my eye went straight to the Lotus Biscoff Cheesecake. What was really enthusing was that we were made aware of a new, young chef who had made the cheesecake and was hoping for feedback. Huge stars to the Cock for making everything in house - such a rarity these days. I hope your chef reads my review and understands that while we were too full to eat dessert there and then, we took away a portion and it made me ummm and ahhhh with every mouthful. My partner didn’t get a look in. Best cheesecake ever! Well done chef, we’ll be back to sample more of your culinary delights in the near future.

Things started badly - they didn't have any record of our reservation for a table of 6 including a large electric wheelchair and a small long-haired dachshund. However, the landlady shifted the whole pub around, deployed the wheelchair ramp herself and made us comfortable. The food was excellent, the service was perfect and the ambience was relaxing. In summary: brilliant value, we'd definitely return.

We picked this venue for a meet-up with friends for lunch. The welcome was very warm and the venue clean warm and inviting. Our table for 4 was lovely. Its worth mentioning that the pub sells Timothy Taylor Landlord beer and it was divine, clearly well managed. Our food was very nice indeed and the service was good. Our only negative was the price of the desserts but all places are showing high dessert prices. WOULD WE EAT THERE AGAIN.....YES !!

Been meaning to go here for a long time, was not disappointed, warm welcome, nice table for two, music level just right. Menu offers plenty of choice of traditional pub grub with added flavour and no fancy description. large choice of sharing starters. Everything is reasonably priced and good sized portions. Food arrived hot and nicely presented. We visited early on a friday evening in mid october so service was quick.

Group and pre ordered. Had a prawn salad overpriced for what it was. Some issues with service and desserts again overpriced for what they were and size. Been many times before and not had any problems

We hadn't booked which in hindsight was a mistake, but still managed to get a table. Staff were friendly, food and service was very good. We had starters and mains, all great quality but we found the mains portions too big having had starters, and at most could only eat half of what was offered. Typical pub lunch menu with specials of the day. Small portions were offered but we ignored and have learned mistake, will take next time. Good atmosphere, good food, lovely staff, would recommend. Good value for money. I recommend booking and if you have a small appetite, ask for the smaller portion. Overall a great experience.

Went for Sunday lunch with family, lovely roast with all the trimmings, service good and the pub has a nice relaxed feel. Highly recommended!

I had not stepped foot into this Pub for many years but was very impressed on entering how much it had improved. The food was delicious the prices excellent and the service 10 out of 10. I won’t leave it so long before I return again this time.

Five of us had a lovely Sunday lunch in early December. The service was excellent. With staff checking if all our meals were as we expected, and checking if we required any more drinks when glases were getting low! Gareth (chef) and his team do a great job in quite a small kitchen. My family and I would like to say a huge heartfelt Thankyou to the management and their excellent team, at The Cock Inn,Wivelsfield Green.We had booked our Christmas Dinner there and arrived on a cold,wet and windy Sunday lunchtime but as soon as we entered this local country inn our spirits were lifted by the warmth of the welcome we received.The ages in our party ranged from 93 to 7 years old so could have proved a challenge for the staff but they all, experienced and novices,treated us with respect,friendliness and professionalism. We were shown to our beautifully ‘dressed’table and our drink orders were taken immediately.Us lads,all being real ale drinkers,in unison announced the Harvey’s best and old were both in peak condition.We all enjoyed 3 courses of plentiful,well cooked and presented food, all served with a smile from the young waitresses. Drinks were served throughout the meal without anyone having a empty glass for long. We had our table for 3 hours and never felt under pressure to vacate it,we even had time for an impromptu fun Christmas quiz between courses. We finished our afternoon with yet another drink,by the roaring log fire,in the public bar.What a perfect way to end a wonderful family Christmas meal. Top marks from us all for the team at the Cock Inn and Thankyou all so very,very much.

Very popular and busy. Why? Because it is very good. Not a huge menu but add in the specials and you have a great range of foods. Well cooked, well presented, well served and at a decent price. I recommend it.

Living fairly local we decided to try out this establishment haven heard from others of the ‘ excellent’ food and hospitality which certainly not available to us during our visit. Parking is problematic with many customers parking in side roads, the welcome upon entering was non existent only acknowledged after standing at the bar for several minutes even though several members of the staff passed us on numerous occasions including it seemed the manager. The choice of food was good however the presentation of food on the plates, Sunday roasts, was well below standards seen at other establishments. We had to ask for more gravy as the servings had very little on each plate, thankfully this was presented quickly in a jug and was actually hot. Whilst the beef was well cooked the knives provided were very blunt therefore cutting into smaller slices was an issue even though the meat was not ‘tough’. Upon finishing our meals we had a long wait to get the plates cleared, it seemed the servers had no inclination to do so until we mentioned it; in other words they seemed to be in a different world. We waited a further 10 minutes or so thinking someone at least would offer the desert menu but again had to ask which was provided on a small board. To put into context the time we were there made the restaurant not busy being a 4pm booking with many customers having left the establishment with tables available throughout; the servers were polite but lacked the attentive requirements to clear tables in a timely manner and then to offer further courses. The servers were young, maybe only serving for a short time, therefore they really need to up their game to be more attentive for the surroundings they are working.

yet again my friend and i had a lovely lunch at the Cock inn. Services was excellent and food was great especially the waffle and icecream and sauce. if you want a superb lunch then go here

Went here for lunch. Excellent service - it was really busy but they managed to get around everyone and were very nice. I'd say the food is good - pretty standard pub fayre. For me, not particularly special but definitely tasty and nice to eat.

Roast dinner poor...nut roast seemed to be made of rice... and gravy out of a packet. Meat eater ...didn't like hers either. Staff were lovely and friendly though

Lovely meal. We hadn’t booked but lucky to get a nice table. Would recommend booking to ensure you’re not disappointed. We chose from the specials board and were happy with our choices of broccoli soup, prawns, steak and horseradish pie and Thai chicken and peanut curry with rice.

We have eaten at the Cock Inn three times now and we have been impressed, good, hot food, served by friendly staff. Time to try the Sunday roast!

Impromptu lunch visit one Thursday, we’re not local but fancied a drive. I had the vegan mushroom Wellington and my husband had salmon fish cake then we shared vegan chocolate sponge. Absolutely delicious, clean plates all round. The staff were really friendly and there was a warm atmosphere, we stayed for a while and played pool too.

I was nicely surprised to see such an extensive menu plus specials board. I ordered a vegetarian mushroom pie with new potatoes and fresh vegetables. My friend had lasagne, garlic bread and salad. I had sticky toffee pudding with cream to follow. Both meals were well cooked and well presented by very pleasant staff. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this charming, homely pub for a meal and most definitely would like to return.

Really impressed by our first visit. Beautifully cooked Sunday roast - although A La Carte would also have been available. Vegetables lightly cooked to our taste, and friendly, prompt and thoughtful service. Excellent value - we have re-booked already.

Dropped in for lunch. Staff were very attentive to my wife who is blind. I had Mac Cheese and my partner had stuffed chicken. The plates were full of tasty food. Though live some distance away, will call again if in area.

Had a daily special: Chilli and Maple chicken skewers. These arrived dry with no sauce accompanied by a symbolic salad garnish with no dressing and oily chips. Most uninspiring. The menu needs serious revision/simplification and the pub needs a chef with real passion for food.

Have driven past this pub for years and today popped in for lunch. Staff were lovely, food amazing and really pretty outside seating area. Fabulous way to spend a couple of hours. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back.

Four of us went for a lunch in mid week recently. We had a warm welcome and we were shown to a nice round table in comfortable surroundings. Two of us had the steak and kidney pudding which was delicious. The pub catered very well...

Having only moved into the village at the beginning of the month we were very pleased to find we were only 5 minutes walk from The Cock Inn. It has a good atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff and a good choice of food. It's not a 'gastro' pub but it serves good quality food at sensible prices. We've been 3 times in as many weeks which, I think, says it all.

Visited on a dark Monday night in December during the Pandemic and not everywhere was open or serving food. On a long drive and the Cock Inn stood out from the gloom of the evening with bright and cheerful seasonal lighting which was most welcoming.It was nice that safety measures were observed, but the atmosphere of a warm and welcoming pub was maintained. A gluten-free menu was made available with perfectly customised options. Excellent Harvey's Ales were on tap also.The food was perfect but portioned for the larger appetite. Sometimes I think chefs should not associate volume with value, and smaller would have as well appreciated by this diner as the quality was excellent. In modern times wasted food is not a good thing.I would recommend to any hungry traveller.

This was a first visit and it won't be the last. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. The food was the best I've had in years. I had beef and my dining partner pork. It was all freshly cooked and hot with accompanying sauces offered. The pub was busy and the team were working hard but smiling all the time. My dessert of sticky toffee pudding was the best I have EVER had and my companion thought the same about the chocolate brownie he ordered.

Visited the Cock Inn for a lunchtime bite and was warmly greeted at the bar, shown to the table and offered a drink. Very pleasant outdoor seating area if not a little cramped. I had to keep jumping out of my seat to let others out even though we were only one of two tables eating.The specials menu was varied and the menu also a good choice. The beer was not the best pint I've ever had, maybe a warm glass or a dead widget.When the food arrived I was a little underwhelmed. Others had starters and they were not homemade which is a shame. The burger patty was extremely dry and needed more seasoning. Not a cheap burger by the time you put cheese and bacon in it. The coleslaw was poor and a single tablespoon dropped on the plate. The chips were ok as far as frozen chips can go. Sauces should be offered before food arrives to avoid waiting for them and I'm pretty sure it's standard to check back at the table that all is well.To conclude - it's a nice place that could do better with a few tweaks.

We had another fabulous meal at the Cock Inn yesterday. 9 plus a baby. Generous portions, fabulous service from everyone and lovely setting out in the courtyard. Lots of different dishes were ordered and they were all equally enjoyed. Chicken, bacon and avocado salad was spot on as usual. My wife and I had dinner at the Cock Inn our local pub for her significant birthday. Everything was perfect with a birthday message and surrounds, great food and faultless service! We are really so lucky to live within walking distance of such a wonderful place to eat drink and relax! Thanks to Sam and Andy and especially on the night to the fabulous Katie!

The service is friendly, quick,professional, enquired if anyone had allergies etc. Drinks cold and dressed.Waitress? very friendly and informative Toilets v v clean, decor i liked the decor interesting and different a bit of individuality.Now the food. Wow wow. Sandwiches amazing the salad and plough mans excellent all freshly prepared bread amazing, dressing seem to be hand made as to shop bought, really enjoyable experience, brought water and glasses to the table without us asking for it. The food wow wow sandwiches were amazing and filling generous , ploughman's and salad were great Dressings tasted home made absolutely lovely, water brought to table without asking . Definite return planned, beer garden are pretty and walk heaters or hot water bottles etc if you require them well organised for covid rules thankyou very enjoyable

We visited for an evening meal and opted sit in the beer garden which was well laid out and organised with heaters. Good selection of real ales,excellent service and a varied menu with daily specials. Covid restrictions all well organised and service was at out table.Enjoyable evening.

Excellent beer garden, the drinks are fab as well as the food and great value for money! Cocktails are delicious and this is by far the best outdoor venue we have visited during the pandemic. Exceptionally pretty, very well designed, heated, fully covered and they even provide blankets to top it off!

We visited at the cock inn today, not our first time. We didn’t know what to expect as it was our first meal out since lockdown, however we were no less impressed than other times we have eaten there, even with the restrictions the pubs are having to deal with. The food was great, plentiful and really well priced. The outside area was done so nicely, clearly with a great deal of thought gone into it for the customers. Plenty of space, nice large comfortable seating and tables, with lots of warmth coming from the heaters they have fitted. They give each table a remote to control the heater to their own desires. Didn’t have to leave the table as the service was on hand for anything we wanted, with the exception of using the toilet which is very accessible, and without entering the pub itself. Very well planned indeed. Another enjoyable experience at the cock inn.

Our first night out post lockdown tonight and where better to spend it than with Sam Andy and all our wonderful friends at The Cock Inn the best pub in East Sussex. A lovely outdoor heated area, faultless service, great food and drink and just a fantastic night after so long! If you are in the `Hayward’s Heath or `burgess Hill area please make the effort to look this lovely pub up - it is well worth the effort! ❤️❤️

We met friends outside for a pub lunch prior to Christmas. The pub was clean, felt well organised and safe and the staff could not have been more helpful (bringing out ice cream for my 2 year old pudding along with our mains so she was kept occupied)!We sat in the courtyard which was decorated and had a lovely atmosphere. All of the food was great, traditional pub style and really good portions and value for money, We will definitely return!

A group of friends went for a mid week lunch. Because of COVID restrictions we’d booked the table in the courtyard outside. It was sheltered, with a roof and heater and the area looked festive with decorations. It was ideal under the current restrictions. The staff were really helpful and attentive and we all enjoyed our meal. Thank you!

We were recommended this place by a local dealership as a nice place to celebrate our car purchase.From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed and were shown to our table. The pub had a good ambiance and is decorated nicely.The food was excellent, with a generous,and tasty, steak and kidney pudding.The staff were attentive, friendly but not over bearing. Stopped in here for lunch during the week. It was very quiet, not many others in the restaurant, but this suited us fine. The staff were very attentive and all COVID guidelines followed. Lovely decor and feels clean throughout. A reduced menu at the moment, but still a great selection of meals and a specials board to choose from. Also liked that they brought a bottle of water to our table without being asked. Food was delicious and generous sized portions. Would definitely return if in the area.

Incredible food and very well priced! The staff gave a personal experience. Always a great meal. I had the pulled pork burger which was delicious, such a great sauce! And the brownie for dessert which was warm and gooey!

Another great meal in our favourite local! Well on a Wednesday when we don’t feel like cooking where else would we go? From the usual warm welcome from Katie W to great service and lovely food (as always!). I spotted a home made scotch eggs and pickle starter on the board which was lovely as was my liver bacon and mash (always a favourite!) and Susan had the Ribs special which were also fabulous (apparently as she finished the lot without offering me any!). As is usually the case we were too full to look at the dessert board but left extremely satisfied. The COVID-19 restrictions were also complied with properly which was very comforting. Congrats Sam and Andy - keep up the good work!

Tried this pub out for the first time at Lunchtime today. Lots of space outside and new menus have been produced for the eat out initiative. This was clearly explained by the staff who were wearing face masks which was quite reassuring as lots of establishments are not following these guidelines. The food and service was excellent and all safety procedures were first class. Three meals and drinks totalled just over £20.00 - wow! Please don't forget to tip the staff though accordingly as they have been working so hard. Will definitely be back!

The family enjoyed a superb evening meal. There was a wide range of food including Salmon to Liver, to pies, scampi , jacket potatoes etc etc. All food was excellently cooked. Reasonable prices. Good selection of drinks. Lovely selection of deserts including spotted dick and custard. Definitely recommend. Will return.

Just returned from a lovely lunch at the Cock. I had the seabass fillet from the Christmas menu; it was cooked to perfection and very very delicious.

We ended up here unplanned. Had not read reviews, our hunger made us stop here! We were greeted by a very friendly lady. The place is decorated beautifully and the service was simply really good. Would definitely recommend this place for a family meal!!

After scouring the websites for dog friendly pubs, this time we ventured into Wivelsfield and to the Cock Inn. This is in Wivelsfield Green,and on arrival we were able to drop the car off in the pub car park. I must say we were very warmly greeted by a member of staff, who showed us to a table and also took our drinks order that was brought to the table for us.Even though the pub is open at 11am,they don't serve food until noon, but we did notice that they do a breakfast between 10am and 11am.Anyway with noon approaching and our minds made up as to what we would have, our orders were taken very promptly. All I can say is that when it arrived, we both had to pass comment on the size of our meals they were huge. From a mouthwatering burger,to the hunters chicken all the food was superb. And no doubt, that will definitely be visiting the Cock Inn again.Many thanks to all at the Cock inn for making our visit well worth it,and for a lovely lunch.From Ray,Rosemary, and our dog Susie.

Went for lunch on Saturday - warm welcome and nothing too much trouble. Would certainly recommend - full of regulars always a good sign! Will be going back for the tasty food and relaxed atmosphere.

The Cock is everything you want a local pub to be, with a good selection of drinks and a menu of mainly traditional pub dishes - with the odd modern ingredient added, such as halloumi fries. This is not a gourmet experience, but the food is tasty and the atmosphere friendly, which all adds up to an enjoyable experience.

Warm and friendly welcome. Good choice of beers and wines. Extensive food menu including vegetarian & G/F. Order promptly taken, food arrived well cooked and presented & very tasty. Can thoroughly recommend.

This is the second time I have been to this pub and I can honestly say it only gets better.

Most times I go to watch the football (World Cup, Champions League or Premiership) and enjoy the local buzz, good beer and wholesome food. Seating outside front and back and pool and darts for those looking to exercise whilst at the pub...
