The Coach and Horses in Greenwich

Stoped for a sit down, drinks and a snack with our two children (6 and 8), really friendly welcoming pub, would definitely recommend

We came here as we heard Sunday Roast is moneys worth here and we were right! Crispy potatos and juice pork did the job for me. People who serve us was very nice and polite they bring our food quick and with a smile.

We used to love coming here for a Sunday roast but our visit this time was really disappointing and we won't be going back. Roast dinner consisted of three small potatoes, a huge pile of cabbage, one tiny piece of carrot, one piece of parsnip and a single slice of beef. Not only was the portion tiny, it was cold. Shouldn't have to ask for cutlery or salt and pepper whilst your dinner sits getting even colder and when we complained about the meagre amount of beef we were told it depends on how the chef cuts it - which is fair comment if you get a thick, large piece of beef but we all had a thin small piece each. Such a shame as it used to be our first choice for Sunday lunch. We'll be going to one of the other many pubs in Greenwich next time.

Great spot for people watching. Lovely friendly atmosphere and wonderful lunch. Had the dog with us and it’s his favourite place!

We went to Greenwich Market today and while the street food offerings looked delicious, we decided to sit at a table and chose the Coach & Horses pub in the market. I ordered a 'pint of prawns' with sour dough bread and was absolutely stunned when the so called 'pint of prawns' were 5 unpeeled prawns (which didn't taste freshly cooked) which sat on top of a pile of lettuce in a pint glass. People, this is not a Pint of Prawns, it's five tasteless prawns sitting in lettuce in a pint glass. And they charge you an outrageous £10 for this - without offering a water bowl so you can wash your hands after peeling the prawns yourself. Mucky. the picture shows you how much lettuce was stuffed into the pint glass - advertising standards would question your description of the dish. I recommend you eat anywhere else in Greenwich Market, lots of choice and not this rip off third rate pub.

Thanks to Alice and her team for looking after us on Saturday 16th July. They did a fantastic job and made my aunt very happy on her special day (80th birthday). The food, service and atmosphere was great and the venue is very dog friendly.

Difficult knowing which pub to pick in Greenwich. We fell into this one randomly along a quaint alley. It has an outdoor area that feels indoor, as it it's alongside Greenwich's old covered market, which was hung with bunting for the forthcoming coronation.. So this pub has a lot of atmosphere. Didn't feel touristy or too rammed, despite it being May Bank Holiday. The staff were friendly and chatty. The London Pilsners from Portobello Brewing went down very well. Helped us recover from seeing Liz Truss in the High Street.

We dined here staying nearby on a Sunday evening. Food and service were good, order at the bar or by QR code. We had the Coach Ploughmans and Sausage and mash on savoy cabbage. Food was tasty and well presented, and portions were filling without being too large.

Lovely food. Excellent service. Friendly staff. Worth the visit. Don’t rush you out on a busy Sunday. If you’re in Greenwich defantily worth a visit.

…situated in Greenwich Market, I’ve often thought the Coach & Horses a bit of an ‘unsung hero’ tbh. Not an alehouse I frequent whilst in Greenwich but on every occasion I’ve sampled it, they’ve always delivered & no more so than last night. In the throes of closing, the bar staff still found the time & energy to serve myself & two friends & all in a very friendly manner. In short, you can’t beat a ‘pub team’ willing to go the extra mile for their customers: others take note. Anyhow, thank you Alana - I’ll be back 👍 Krs, Chris

We love the Coach and Horses. We took a risk today booking Sunday Roast, given the half mathron and it being a Sunday and the market being a tourist mecca. However, the service and food did not disappoint! It’s a little expensive, but worth it, if you want a decent Sunday Roast. The staff are amazing, especially the manageress, who is always friendly and somehow manages to find time to talk to the customers. Definitely worth a visit, but if you go on a Sunday make sure you book.

I spent 2 days in Greenwich and a good percentage of them were in this pub. Lovely relaxed place to watch the goings on in the market, decent choice of beers and very good pub grub (we're still wondering how they did the mushy peas with the fish and chips; they were excellent). When I lived in the area many years ago this was the best pub in Greenwich. Still is.

We hopped off the sighseeing boat and wandered into the Village and were walking around when we saw this pub. We had food for 4 people including, Soup, a kids meal, fish and chips and pie and mash. Food and drink were really good and we sat outside in the market which was really lovely in the hot weather. It adds to the overall atmosphere. We were there quite early and there was a bit of a wait for the food but when it came it was well worth it. I would not mention this as a negative, just a factor to consider. Do the wait - for the great food. I had the fish and chips and the batter was sooo crispy and fresh but I think the highlight of the table was the veggy soup. You would want to eat the bowl after it. I think that it is a really good sign of a place when they can do the simple things so well. It takes care and attention.

Had fish and chips here - was what you'd expect. The pork belly bites are AMAZING. Staff were really nice and the location and atmosphere is really good. Would definitely visit agian.

An amazing Sunday roast dinner, lovely food and wonderful staff, especially the manageress who was very attentive and helpful. My only grumble is the cost of the food which is a little high, but on balance its probably worth it, so a solid 4 star.

Looking for a lunch stop between a visit to The Queen’s House and National Maritime Museum and this place was perfect. Friendly staff, good beer and drinks, toastie and Ploughman’s went down well too.

2 rounds of drinks were great and served quickly however during our short visit I witnessed one waiter pick his nose and a waitress dip cutlery into water then wipe on her jeans instead of a cloth. We decided not to eat here.

Un pub fantástico con gran ambiente con vistas al mercado. Servicio brillante y acogedor de Dan, el gerente del bar, y excelente menú con pizzas particularmente buenas. A mi pareja y a mí nos gustó tanto que volvimos todos los días durante una semana en nuestra última semana viviendo en Greenwich.

Reservamos el lunes festivo para almorzar con nuestras dos hijas. La comida era normal. Se sacaron dos platos principales y luego un retraso en traer otros (aunque no se cobraron por estos). Mi pudín fue decepcionante: yogur de coco con coulis de frambuesa con pistachos, que era yogur con un puñado de frambuesas y nueces congeladas. No nos cobraron por los postres. Servicio lento. Nos informaron que tenían poco personal. Disfruté pasar tiempo con mis hijas, pero el almuerzo podría haber sido mucho mejor.

Vaya, simplemente decidí que este lugar era tan bueno como cualquier otro para detenerse a almorzar, la aplicación para ordenar fue un poco molesta, pero eso se alivió cuando el personal vino a tomar nuestra orden. Il 15 agosto, decidiamo di recarci in questo pub per festeggiare il ferragosto.Conoscevamo già il pub, essendoci stati in precedenza, quindi niente sorprese almeno cosi pensavamo.Ci accomodiamo fuori, ordiniamo ma dal menù non c’è nulla che possa piacere a nostro figlio, poco lontano c’è un McDonald, mia moglie decide quindi di andare a prendergli qualcosa li, torna giusto in tempo per gustare la zuppa che aveva scelto e...il cameriere che ci ha servito, ci fa presente che il cibo del bimbo dev’essere consumato fuori, gli faccio presente che i loro piatto erano troppo saporiti per un bimbo di pochi anni ma non vogliono sentire ragioni e ci sbattano fuori, si SBATTONO FUORI con i piatti in tavola.Avete lavoro se vi potete permettere di cacciare fuori una Famiglia, mi spiace solo non aver potuto contattare le forze dell’ordine locali, per la non completa padronanza della lingua.Peccato, perchè sono anni...A N N I ...che io e la mia Famiglia frequentiamo Londra e non ci è mai successo nulla del genere, l'ospitalità e la cortesia che abbiamo trovato in Inghilterra non è paragonabile nemmeno a quella Italiana, ma si sà che la cattiva educazione si trova ovunque.

¡Este es definitivamente uno de mis pubs favoritos en Greenwich para tomar una pinta! Un gran lugar después de un largo turno de trabajo, ya que el personal siempre es acogedor. También me siento seguro porque ellos se preocupan por tu seguridad en este mundo COVID en el que vivimos.

Llegó durante la crisis de Covid y me sentí un poco aprensivo al principio, ¡pero fueron muy obedientes y súper amigables! ¡Preciosa selección de bebidas alcohólicas también!

1) Los nuevos procedimientos de COVID deben aplicarse a todos, no por elección. (Nos pidieron que usáramos antibacterianos pero no preguntaron a otros clientes que llegaron después de nosotros) 2) El personal nos ignoró y nos hizo esperar mientras atendían a los nuevos clientes que llegaban después.Lamentablemente tuvimos que irnos sin que nos atendieran.

Encontramos este pub encantador el sábado, mientras exploramos el mercado local, reservamos para Sun Lunch y no nos decepcionó. Aunque debe haber sido un desafío para el bar y el personal de preparación de alimentos, ¡estos chicos lo lograron! Tuvimos un delicioso asado de domingo, 2 x carne de res con todos los adornos, ¡malvado! El servicio fue bueno y atento, estos tipos tenían un sistema y todos se apegaron a él. El personal estaba trabajando el doble de duro y obteniendo la mitad de los resultados debido a las restricciones del gobierno, pero no nos decepcionó y podemos recomendar el pub, el menú de comida y, por supuesto, el personal. Volveremos.

Me reuní con un compañero, unas pintas y pedí una pizza. Esta fue la pizza más pequeña que he visto y comido. Un miembro del personal era amable, pero los otros dos parecían desear estar todavía en licencia. El garfio era un poco caro, pero era de esperar en una zona turística como Greenwich. No saldría de mi camino para ir allí de nuevo. Bonita decoración pero sin ambiente. Hay otros bebedores mejores en Greenwich.

From the outside it looked like a good place for lunch, lovely and quaint inside. We ordered fish and chips, sausage and mash, and a veggie mushroom pie, a total of £41 for 3 meals, but we thought London prices ok. We waited 45 minutes after we ordered, then asked the staff where our food was and how long would it be? They didn't seem very interested, although there wasn't anyone else in the bar waiting to be served. After 5 minutes the bar girl stated that we would have to wait as it was being cooked to order, 'won't be long' - The fish and chips came, nothing really special but ok, but then we waited another 20 minutes for the remaining food - it was so disappointing when it came too! Not a good experience at all :(

Went into pub 10 minutes after it opened Saturday lunchtime (11.40pm) we was going to eat here, nice pub, 6 staff standing around not much doing as just opened, I used the ladies toilet and when I walked in the strong urine smell hit me then when I looked around there was toilet paper everywhere, one toilet not flushed, wet floors, generally dirty, sinks dirty, not even an air freshener in sight. No way was I eating in this pub, as their hygiene not a priority. There were enough staff standing around chatting, why had they not cleaned it, obvs not cleaned from day before. I was going to tell a staff member but first I told my partner and there was one male bearded staff member listening to me as he was directly facing towards me he heard me tell my partner how bad it was I then looked at that staff member knowing he was listening, to tell him directly and he quickly acted like he’d not been listening and walked away. Obvs no staff wanted to clean it hence it being revolting when pub just opened. Won’t be going back there again. Pub looks lovely and clean but toilets oh so gross

Found this gem of a pub while walking though Greenwich market. Popped in for a couple of pints and a Camembert with my wife and we were highly impressed. Food presentation was great with the camembert served in a skillet pan, obviously they pay attention to detail. More importantly, great beer!!Will definitely come back!

What a unique pub in the middle of Greenwich. A nice place to stop of for a few or spend most of your evening in. We had a Camembert and then some delicious steaks after. All cooked to perfection. Lovely range of beers and rums on offer!! Can’t wait to go back!!!

I ordered a fish and chips which smelled strongly like ammonia, after informing the staff they gave me my plate back suggesting to eat it anyway. Not sure which is worst if the staff or the food.. Lots of better restaurants in the area with better service and fresh food..

Lovely pub in the market, Brogan behind the bar was very friendly and accommodating. Outside heaters in the market unlike many of the competitors, which makes it top of the list on a cold January night!

Came in on Sunday morning for a coffee with my cockapoo named Brogan. i Couldnt believe that the woman behind the bar had the same name and she was just as lovely! Very dog friendly bar and i'll definitely be back again!

Dreadful experience. I booked a table for 8 people including family members from Yorkshire and overseas for a birthday Sunday lunch. I rang to make the booking 4 days earlier. Upon arrival there was no record of my booking. As the member of staff who took my booking wasn’t present, I left a note with my name and number on it so he could call me and at least explain what happened. I heard nothing back.I was left in Greenwich with a large group, ringing around pub after pub trying to find somewhere with space for our group. Everyone makes mistakes but to not at least make an apology for a total screwup doesn’t make me want to visit this pub ever again.

What has happened to this lovely market pub? There is no atmosphere or life in it anymore, the vibe used to be buzzing with all the traders and locals a like. Sad times coach and horses.

One member of staff behind the bat, Bronwyn if I remember correctly. The poor woman did a fantastic job serving customers, the queue sometimes going out the door. She was calm and polite when people became frustrated.

I have given it a medium mark purely because the man waiting tables and working behind the bar was friendly and was working very hard.

Visited here late Saturday afternoon and had brunch. I had a bacon and egg sandwich that came on great grilled bread. Gorgeous. The five others with me equally enjoyed their brunch. Coffee was great and set me up for the rest of the day. We were served by Marcelo who was attentive at all times. Thanks

Popped in to watch a rugby World Cup game. The ‘Coach’ breakfast was excellent; really sets the bar for an English breakfast; well presented, tasty ingredients, good portion - just great!

Fui allí con un grupo italiano muy exigente, no muy confiado con la etiqueta del pub ni con el idioma inglés. El personal no se inmutó y fue extremadamente servicial, atendiendo las solicitudes de todos, dando degustaciones, brindando atención adicional. Marcelo detrás del mostrador fue particularmente amable y sonriente todo el tiempo. Bien hecho, ¡has sido de gran ayuda!

Era nuestra segunda vez aquí por su cerveza y pescado y patatas fritas. Fue muy agradable y si estás visitando Greenwich, lo recomiendo totalmente.

Almorcé aquí hoy (17.09) y lo pasé muy bien. Tuve el sandwich de queso y tomate y mi marido tenía el sandwich de bacalao. Raciones muy generosas y excelentes cervezas. Charlamos con una encantadora francesa que nos ayudó a decidir qué ver en Greenwich. ¡Qué lindo hablar con alguien en nuestro idioma nativo en el extranjero!

Visiting our son in London and he took us to Greenwich which we like very much as it seems quaint and very nice. Found The Coach and Horses as we wandered through the market and we were ready for a seat outside and a drink . Very pleasant indeed, sitting just outside the front of the pub watching the hurly burly around the market stalls. Enjoyable drinks, efficient and friendly staff and fair prices. What more could you ask for in lovely Greenwich.

Came here on a late Saturday afternoon when the market was slowing down. Wanted a beer, and there is a reasonable choice, but at rather extraordinary high prices - even more than quite a few West End pubs, and other establishments in SE10. International rugby on the TV, but without sound. Instead some extremely banal pop music on too loud, along with the rather high volume chatter from the three quarters full small (bland) interior. Some of the food dishes passing my table did look very appealing however. And with two minutes to go before the end of the rugby match, banal music was turned off and commentary sounded from the TV. Oh well.

Visité aquí ayer y tuve una comida muy sabrosa. Tuvimos la suerte de visitar mientras hacía calor, así que nos sentamos afuera. Nuestra orden fue tomada en la mesa. Pedí la hamburguesa de pollo y mi amigo tenía la hamburguesa de salchicha. Puedo decir sin lugar a dudas que fue la mejor hamburguesa de pollo que he probado. Mi amigo dijo que la hamburguesa de salchicha también era muy buena. Entonces, aunque caro, definitivamente valió la pena cada centavo. El ambiente era muy relajado y sin duda volveremos a visitarlo. Recomiendo una visita a este pub.

Went here for Saturday drinks, nice outside seating area in the market so you can watch the world go by. A good selection of drinks. We definitely go back there and would recommend.

This is just a typical pub like 1000's of others in the UK. It is likely very popular because it is in the "Market". My wife and I stopped for a drink and it was fine. Nothing special, nothing great. Just a pub!

Ordered a Sunday roast, leg of lamb and a pint for 2 people. Came to £44! Well at least thoguht we'd get a bloody good roast for that. Roast arrives and there's two slices of meat on the plate. We questioned the girl who brought it as to whether this was lamb and she said yes. Sceptical but ate it. Was definitely not lamb, was ropey and tasteless what I can only assume was beef. Definitely not a leg of lamb and definitely not worth £17 a pop. No member of staff came to how food was, which is standard practice in most places? Also watched them mess up a another tables order while we finished out drinks. It wasn't even busy so not sure what their excise it. Piss poor. Refund needed but no useful staff around to question. Hope you go out of business.

After enjoying the small market, have a seat at the outdoor tables in front of the door. Look at the menu on the table and then go inside to order and pay. They bring your food to you.
